[Q] HTC Touch Pro 2 for Verizon (using Windows Mobile 6.5)

Okay, Im new to the site as a registered user, but have been looking around in the forums and reading posts and what not, but Im having troubles finding the answers to my questions. There are soo many topics, soo many rreplies, soo many of the same questions and answers in different topics/posts. So these are my questions and Id really like someone to help me out. Im having troubles with my Touch Pro 2 for Verizon. Im currently running windows mobile 6.5.
Question 1: Do I need to downgrade to windows 6.1 to get Android to work?
Question 2: Are there specific installation instructions that I can follow for this device.
Question 3: Does the service provider matter when installing Android?
( I had a few more questions, however, I have a forgetful memory and if they come up, I will write them down and post more questions)
-- right now, it reboots itself when I get online or open an application.
-- Also it is saying that the Facebook for Android app isnt working because it wasnt signed correctly or something to that effect.
-- When it restarts, it will not let me run the dual boot (Gen Y DualBoot) and says "an error occurred on sub_main_androidexistcheck. An error occurred retrieving the registry key"
-- Every once in awhile it will pop up with a message when I try going into an application. Again, I will write down the message and get back to this post.)
-- Oh, and I installed XDAndroid just recently, its the one Im currently having issues with, but Im not sure which Android I was running before, but it was the one that would pop up with different phones and the Android dude when I would start up Android.
Please, can someone help me out with this? I would really appreciate it. Thank you to whoever replies to this post.
I don't believe it should matter between 6.1 and 6.5, haret simply kicks WinMo out of the active memory and runs Android. Install should be the same across the board for all TP2s, format your SD card, get the latest Cab from the sticky at the top of this sub-forum, and install the CAB to your SD. Most errors in Android are repaired with a format of your card.

Please help me root!

Please help me root this device. I have only ever done my Gs2 a few times with flashing etc, so am basically a complete noob.
I have tried for the last couple of hours and am wanting to go mad. I have followed all the lines about unlocking the device and the fastbook oem unlock, But all it ever tells me is waiting for device. Im guessing im missing drivers, but I have dont the samsung drivers a couple of times, and unzipped and followed the instructions.
Any easier to follow guides or info out there that can help me?
When I plug the phone in to unlock it, i dont get the usual ding from windows, i just get a little thre dings like it doesnt know what it is.
please help. Thanks....
Ps, sorry if I am being stupid or cluttering the forum. cheers..

Haven't rooted mine yet, I'll be doing it at the weekend. Had loads of issues with the drivers when I rooted my Nexus S. In the end I installed PDA net on my PC - the drivers installed with that worked fine (you don't actually use PDA net thereafter) Not sure if this works with the GN but you will not do any harm trying it.

Cheers guys, Im so new to this, its so frustrating. Its got to be a driver issue. My comp reconises the phone when its on, but when its in bootloader mode, windows is giving me three dull bells when connecting the device....
will have a look at the other thread, Have already read that one I think, and looked so foreign to me!!! lol
I cant pst in the other thread, but have downloaded and installed pda net for android, and when it gets to installing the drivers from the phone, it does it all, ie galaxy nexus , the other driver that i cant remember and the galaxy driver is not installing. Even gone two miles down the road and got a different laptop. no matter what I download or ty and install it just dnt do it.
can some one either make a real simple idiots guide for me the idot, or locally please let me pay you a small fee to root these two phones. Im almost in tears after 5.5 hours of constant crap and pathetiness.
Wishing right now i had not bthered with these phones. At least my s2 and flashing was simple.
It says "waiting for device" because for some crazy reason when you are in fastboot mode Windows (which is what I'm using) uses a different USB driver than when you are in "normal" usb connect mode.
What you need do to sort it out is to go to Device Manager and change the driver to use the Samsung instead of whatever crazy one Windows has decided to use. Then you can carry on with doing the bootloader unlocking.

Ok so what have you done so far?
You have the pdanet drivers installed on your pc?
You need to boot into fastboot mode to install the driver you need to root your phone.
*THIS* guide will explain what adb and fastboot are exactly.
*THIS* guide will show you how to set up adb and fastboot.
When unlocking the bootloader you will need the file fastboot.exe which you can put in the root of your c drive for easy access. The atteached file needs to be renamed from .zip to .exe as you cant attach .exe files in xda.
If you have any more questions then just ask .
Mark.
ok..... having gone through similar a few minutes ago.
The drivers kept saying that they had failed to install. kept trying over and over.
then i twigged:
1) made sure debugging mode was on
2) Rebooted the unit into bootloader mode - suddenly the adb driver installed successfully doh !
wonder if this is the same issue you are having ... the adb drivers only install successfully once the nexus is connected via usb and in bootloader mode
of course you may know all that already but it had me stumped for a while
Thank you guys, some good info and detailed posts, which is what I was hoping for! I'm in bed now, but will give this a blast and report back tomorrow!
Really appreciated!
Thanks .......

Big thanks to everyone. Woke up with a clearer head and proceeded to try again. Done as wilbur said and installed drivers in recovery mode. And perfect.......
after so many problems all was sorted. Then used superboot, and all was ok. 2 galaxy nexus's rooted. think the lesson learnt is to walk away instead of furiously trying things.
Cheers for all the input. What a easy methd ONCE all the drivers are there!!
Cheers people
Glad you got it sorted

[Q] Is this the right tool to start and one more question

Hello SGSII community! I come from a far and ancient land called SGS4G community.
I just want to say that I will be playing with my friends phone so I want to take every precaution.
(1) While before I started asking this question, I was browsing your forums to find the right place to start, is this tool the correct way to "hack" my friends SGSII (Yes it is T-mobile).
(2) I also want to ask that since I am an owner of the SGS4G and I do have some drivers installed related to my device and I want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Could I just plug-in my friends SGSII in another USB port or do I have to uninstall drivers?
It only takes a few minutes to dl and install drivers. I have the S2 and my bro the S 4g and I do know I can plug his phone into my PC and do whatever - whether or not it works the other way around I am not sure. Also, depending on your version of Windows it should automatically detect the device and install drivers - although that may be just for charging and USB purposes...
Also, you can use that toolkit or ODIN to root your phone. After that you will want to use the TWRP recovery to flash any custom goodness as that is a very tried and tested method with little to no issues. Good Luck.

[Q] driver install problem

im new to the Gnex and im trying to install the device drivers and i cant seam to figure it out. i have installed the toolkit and tried to intall the drivers through there, no luck. i have also downloaded the drivers from the samsung website and tried manually installing them and no luck either. i also tried the PDAnet method and i encountered an error and the install aborts it self. i did have an Epic4gtouch before im thinking those drivers are causing some sort of problem i think. i read and watched the instructions on how to do things but i just cant seam to get it to work. if someone can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated. :good: also im not so sure what other info to provide here for someone to better assist me. im doing this through my PC that is running Windows 8 and its a sprint galaxy nexus running 4.1.1, build JRO03U.L700FH05 , UNLOCKED

[Fire TV Stick][bueller][Help wanted] Revive via Linux Arm

So first of all this is my first attempt to do anything in this direction and im at a dead end of my ideas what i need to get started.
The main problem is that the stick where lagging too much. But i have a bluetooth device that i would like to monitor and since a few days im owning a fire tv cube.
Therefor i think, having a linux running would be great. Ive already run archlinux/ubuntu/fedora a few times on my android via termux. But i don't know anything about booting in or on arm devices. After some research i think that u-boot is something i need to use to boot the kernel. To get this done i should have a backup plan as this might result in a bricked device, but i didn't find anything about a uart connection or similar to get logs or an option to modify the boot. Im owning a stm232 ( if i remember correctly, ill update this tomorrow ). i know the risk that i could damage the stick but i'll riskthat , at least i can learn about booting on arm.
Are there guides or documentations where i could start?
Ive read about a locked bootloader but i don't know if i need to unlock this or if i could bypass this.
Any help apreciated. I'll try to update any progress to give anyone to reuse the old sticks instead of sending them to trash.

I love the idea but I am not able to find a tutorial for this. Just for a later device:
Fire TV 2 - Ubuntu (Headless) Install Guide
This guide is intend to help you with "installing" Ubuntu 14.04 (12.04 also works) on the Amazon Fire TV 2 after rbox recovery has been setup. Only headless mode is possible, similar to Ubuntu Server, but it still makes a nice little ARMv8...
