ok so I used my phone for about 3 hours last night tweaking things and playing with stuff and didn't charge it overnight and used it a bunch today and the battery indicator looked like it was at about 70%. probably not accurate, but the fact that it's even still on amazes me because it's probably got 8 hours of playing with it and 6 hours of standby and still going strong.
I think a full drain then a full charge might reset the battery indicator for accuracy, I wish we had like a "current widget" for WP7 to see the ma drain.
how you guys doing on HD2 WP7 battery drain? Mine seems to be even better than WM6.5
I have the exact opposite experience as you. My HD2[7]'s battery life is crap. It was fully charged last night and I had left it in my drawer with the Wi-fi off. After coming from work a half hour ago, I saw that the battery was almost drained.
Also, shouldn't the battery icon show the plug when the phone is being charged? My phone is on and booted into WP7, the red light is showing but the battery icon shows no animation or the plug. EDIT: WTF IT FROZE ON ME, I had to remove the battery!
Finally, what's with the random reboots? I've seen 2 already.

I think its something related to the SD cards you are using.
If the Sd card you are using is not compatible with WP7 then you will get random reboots.
And the main thing here is that there is no specific way to know which SD card will work and which wont work with WP7
By the way my battery is somewhat draining faster than the Android I was using on my HD2

What I meant to say was, we don't know which SD card will work with WP7 on HD2.
I wasn't talking about the official WP7
Well the stock 16gig TMOUS card works just fine.
my battery seems to be fine, i use my scale based on my school schedual. with android from 7 am to 4 pm around 50 to 40 percent.
today running wp7 i unplugged it around 8is and about 6 is it had very little black on the battery icon. im going ot charge it up fully, then kill it, to see if that helps reset the battery stats
Well when i first flashed WP7 my battery was over lasting.. After i manually rebooted because i just felt like doing so, my battery has started to drain a little bit to fast.
Are there any marketplace apps that can monitor this stuff yet?
Update: Last night, after making sure that my phone was fully charged, I turned off the wifi and removed the SIM card and didn't touch the phone again until a half hour ago (about 12 hours standby time in total). The indicator is showing about 50% battery life remaining. This SUCKS, and any helpful comments about this will be appreciated.
just considering its not supposed to be on the phone...
also what theme are you using
and since microsd polling it may have a lot of impact on standard battery life...
plus, let's be real, it is an htc...they're not battery efficient

Here are my settings: Dark background theme, purple (hate the color normally, but somehow manages to look nice on the HD2), 30 seconds lockscreen timeout, Wifi off, Location off.
I tried removing the MicroSD, but the phone then becomes unusable with frequent freezes and reboots. I'd love to check if the card is affecting battery life if the damn phone would let me to.

HTC puts bad batteries in their 4.3" phones. They've been using 1230 mAh batteries forever (over a year). Blackberry curves come with 1150 mAh batteries so you can see what that size is somewhat optimized for: feature phones and smartphones with small non-touch screens.
Most smartphones with a 4"+ screen running Android or WP7 have 1400+ mAh batteries (the i4 and Droid X also have 1400, Galaxy S and Incredible have 1500). That's why the battery life is bad.
And it's also the reason why I've never really given the phone much consideration - the battery and the TFT LCD screen they used on it.
That being said, the battery life depends on you usage. When I used my HD2 as myprimary device the battery life was terrible. Once I got my Vibrant and used it only as a PMP, the battery life was terrific because it didn't have a SIM Card and I only used it on WiFi and to play Music and Videos.
But people who use Curve 3Gs as their primary devices and are constantly BBMing and/or SMSing people in addition to calls report days-worth of uptime (emphasis on the plural).
My battery life is on par with what it was on android (about 12-16 hours with moderate usage of web, email, facebook, and heavy twitter) and its configured the same was as my android:
1) wifi is on when I need it (maybe 20-45 minutes a day for some marketplace downloads or something)
2) location is always on
3) screen is set to manual, low and 3 minute time-out
4) I have 3 IMAP email accounts that check between every 15 minutes and every 30 minutes.
5) I have a VERY active twitter account that updates every few minutes (not sure exactly as it doesn't appear to be live tile integrated)
6) facebook and google sync
7) HTC HUB is usually running updating the weather and stocks as often as it likes
8) dark brown theme
9) ringer off and no haptic feedback
Hope that helps anyone.
I do agree that the HTC supplied battery is sub-standard. Does anyone know where I can see what the battery percentage is acutally at? I only have the icon in the top right.
Just as a bit of information, my HD7 gets significantly better battery life than my sister's Galaxy phone. Also, those of you removing the SIM, make sure you also enable airplane mode, incase the phone continues to still search for signal... Battery size isn't as important as power management, though I do agree I wish we had a bigger battery on our HD7s... we might have sacrificed a little space for it though...
I think the battery meter is off. After about an hour of playing with Netflix, Zune and watching videos with the ign app my battery meter indicated that I had a lil juice left. I went to sleep without charging the phone. I was sure it would be dead when I woke but it wasn't. I was able to get about 2 more hrs out of it while using the Zune player streaming a playlist I saw.

There is no third party multi-tasking in WP7 and Android Users usually have more apps/services updating stuff in the background. Yes, WP7 will get better battery life than lots of Android Phones and even theHD2 with the same battery in it due to that simple fact along, nevermind all the other exceptions and the obvious disclaimer: different use patterns are different.

I have ATK or whatever it is installed on her phone, not sure if the AMOLED screen uses more juice though
Don't get me started on task killers and android. ATK may be causing the poor battery life. Those process and apps you think your killing are just gonna restart and cause more battery drain. Android does not need task killers. I suggest trying auto killer wich tweaks androids internal memory management to be more or less aggrsive. Phone must be rooted though.

Hey guys am I the only one who is getting extreme battery drain when listining to music and using the phone for anything else at the same time. I use battery monitor widget and i see the drain going into the 600's which is crazy high.
Just to make it clear, data is on bluetooth and wifi off screen on auto brightness and signal is 3-4 bars ie ok .
The phone bottom gets very hot and the battery percentage drops like a falling rock. Is something wrong with my phone or does anyone else see that kind of thing?
I am new to the SG3 and also wondering if its something specific to samsung phones as i never had issues like that with my HTC yes the battery would drain faster with music on but nothing like it is now.

Where is your music coming from? Is your data connection 3G or 4G?
If you are streaming music (Pandora, Spotify, etc.) on 3G/4G, especially if you are driving, your phone will become warm and it will drain your battery. 3G is especially prone to this since it isn't very efficient for data transfer (meaning the phone has to work harder to send/receive data). Additionally, if your screen is on for most of the time you are streaming music, it will cause even more drain.
Different functions of the phone will drain the battery differently. The screen can drain the battery pretty fast, so if you are looking for good battery life, it should be off as much as possible. From my testing, 3G data transfer is pretty harsh on the battery, even more so if the signal is weak (1X can be even harder on the battery than 3G).
Hope this helps!
First of all thanks for the quick reply.
That being said sorry i didnt clarify data is 3g (LTE is turned off as its not available in my area) but my music is stored on my sdcard. and im sitting in a chair in a doctors office so no movement and data is just on as i have my email being pushed to my phone .
As for the reason why im saying its the music playing thats causing the drain is that sitting in the same place doing the same things with my phone (ie reading a book) it doenst even drain a quarter as bad as when doing the same exact thing but just plugging in headphones and listining to music saved on the SDcard. so with the only diefference being that I feel i can justifiably point a finger at it as the culprit.
Hmm...that is strange. I haven't listened to much music from my SD card, honestly. I agree that reading a book should train more battery than listening to music from the SD card (using headphones with the screen off). Maybe the decoding of the files themselves is causing a high amount of CPU use, hence the battery drain?
I would recommend downloading GSam Battery monitor as it will give better battery stats. This might help shed some light on the issue. Meanwhile, I will have to play around on my phone.
thanks for the recommendation i was looking for a program like thatg but didnt know any names. Please see what happens when you play music and tell me what your experience is so i can know if its just me or is it a common occurence.
I keep my music on my card as well. I don't find terrible drain unless I'm boosting the sound for any reason. It will drain slightly faster than just doing normal activities but not super severe.
what do you mean by " boosting your sound" ? do you mean the equalizer?
Idk I haven't had this probable with my GSIII.
same problem in my HD desire
Hi docnas,
I'm searching for this problem time ago in HTC HD desire forums but I'm not finding anything. I know this post is a little bit old but, did you find out how to fix this problem? Today, listening to music from my SD card + whatsapp the battery drains 30% in 10 minutes.
thanks guys!
.Hello everyone,
Just got my G3 about 3 days ago, and so far the battery is going really bad for me.THis phone would consume the whole battery in just 6.5 hrs!!
I used to have Xiaomi Mi4 before it and it would easily make it the whole day -some times +18hr- on the same usage connections.
I've tried different roms and kernels, limited the CPU to 1.9GHz, set governor to powersave, set brightness to auto and then to 30% manual, and still all the same, nothing better! I don't play games or use huge apps, just facebook, whatsapp, 9chat, calls, and FaucClock.
On average, I lose +10% of the battery per hour, Is this normal for this device? The battery says it's 3000mAh but it's acting like it's 1450mAh!
UPDATE:
Yesterday I tried to drain the battery to 0% to charge it again by watching a Full HD movie. It consumed about 30% of the battery leaving me with 30%, that was on 02:48AM. Today I woke up at 9:00AM and there was 29% left, meaning it only consumed 1% in about 6hrs. using the phone would consume more than 5%/hr but the standby is getting really good and very stable. I'll be draining the battery and try to recharge it later hopefully it can get better than this.

I have the same, if not worse, battery drainage. I got my phone(new) yesterday. Just 40 minute ago o was charging it and after i plugged out o saw immediately how the battery was draining more like a % per minute . I looked in the the battery section to see that it'll stay on for 3 hours and 40 minutes. Now i'm letting it play on YouTube till the battery is empty-empty , do a recharge and if that is not the case, maybe i just have a faulty battery and hopefully not a faulty phone. Although i looked at the apps that were used in stand-by(over night) and i sow that Google services was using 16% battery in stand-by , something that i never had like that. Yesterday when my phone arrived it had already pre installed Lollipop 5.0 . After connecting to wi-fi the software updated once more with a small file, something like 120-160 mb, i'm not sure exactly. Now it says that it has the latest update - 20h . I'l do a few full discharge/charge cycles and if that doesn't solve the issue it must be the battery or the phone. Either way i hope i'll not end up returning the phone for testing , the though is already infuriating me a little.

I just hope it's the first few days of the battery life and it would get better by time, but tbh this is the first time I see something like this!
I don't know if it helps but I had similar battery drain after I install a new update of Android. It happened after every update.
For me the solution was a full wipe.
After it I can reach ~2days with ~4hours SOT.

At the time i posted here(post #4) my battery was at around 60 percent playing YouTube for the first real drainage of battery science i've got my phone. Now it's at 12 % with 26 minutes estimated till complete drain. I mention i have the speaker on mute. If i had it on the drainage would've been a little faster. Anyway, after the drain i'll recharge the battery and let it overnight in stand by with the wi-fi on. Also the location will be enabled so the data connection even though it's somewhat deactivated by the wi-fi on status. I enabled also bluetooth and NFC although those are more dormant than active. It'll be setted just as i'm using it daily . Now it's 12:14 AM Eastern Europe time. I'll post here the finishing time of charging/letting it in stand by. In the morning (my morning time ) I'll post again the battery percent. I'll use the phone normally with a little bit of everything . Wi-fi will be on all the time, so the voice network and from time to time i'll "simulate" a carrier 4g/LTE data only usage(YouTube, FaceBook and Mail). I'll post againt the time when the battery will be depleted completely.
It's now 01:12 and the battery is empty. I'll charge it and talk to you in the morning.
Check the SD card. do you still have a battry drain if the sd card is in the Phone?
i had the same problem. i toke the sd card out and my Phone was normal again and no overheated Phone.
i formatted my card to NTFS and it worked.

I don't have an SD card.
You have stock firmware?? And try to install os monitor and it tells you witch program is using the most!
On stock rooted firmware
I also don't have an sd card, and of course i did a phone reset before recharging. I'm getting a little worried dough. Last night it finished charging after 1 hour and 50 minutes. I immediately started tu setup the phone with the google account , did a google restore . Also i forgot to tell that i'm on Orange Romania and i do have some bloatware but i disabled all of it just to make sure that those apps won't interfere with my test. Already my battery was at 85% before going to sleep. I mention that my google restore does not take to much time . When i woke up 10.45 AM my time( now is 11.23 AM) the battery was at 75 percent. I stayed a little on YouTube and just answered a 30 second call and it's down to 67 % now. I am getting aggravated. I'll call Orange support to tell the about the situation and i'll ask them if i can firstly try to fix my problem alone by rooting the phone. If they don't like the idea of rooting my phone i'll try a few more charges/discharges .
Install OS monitor!
I'll try it. Thanks! By the way now the time is 15:56 and the battery is at 66%. So it lost 2 percent in 4 and a half hours(stand-by).
Ps: now that i woke it up for writing this post, it's at 63%.
Hello there,
I've a new G4 since last friday and I'm experiencing a really strange battery drain.
Let's say I will charge my phone to 100% and than leave it idle, it will start discharging really slowly with all syncs active (for example last night it lost 2% in 8 hours). That's cool.
The problem is that as soon as I start using it again it will drain really fast, like 1% every 2 minutes. What is strange is that after start using it it will drain fast (1% every 10 minutes) even if i will let it idle again, so screen off and same operations as the 2% lost during 8h in the night.
At the moment I'm in Germany and I've experienced same drain ratio under good and bad cell signal and wifi. My model is H815. I'm not rooted so I cannot see good statistics in BBS.
I've already tried a factory reset.
Thanks everyone fo the help
I would start with checking the battery information inside settings. In there it will give the biggest battery drains. If you're lucky, you'll see something else up top that is not Android System, Android OS, or the screen.

Today it seems better, only stuff I've changed is that I've disabled the quick cirlce cover since I don't have it but I don't think is related. At the momento I'm at 50% after 7h of wich 2h and 15min of screen time. Seems good to me.
I will go on testing during the weekend and I will report back. I hope the culprits are not rocket player (and mediaserver sice my music is on the SD card) but I've noticed a higher battery drain when using it. (today I haven't that much)
Those are some very good stats so far. Poised to hit 4h on the dot for SoT which is considered the expected average
I had to use a different launcher rather than the stock one and also a quick circle app and that was it

i think that is just reindexing of content on the sd card. It is temporary. It could also mean that your sd card is going bad and more reads were required.

I've tested the card and seems good, It's strange that is still indexing it, I've the phone since one week now.
The charge after the one that seemed ok was totally bad. I'll investigate more
Thanks everyone
If you add files or remove them then i think it triggers indexing. Leave it for a while it should go away after some time.
if it does not try a different card. I only use the red sandisk class 10 cards, these give the least problems.

This of course is way, way too long.
Usually this is because of a corrupt/unreadable/unknown file on the external SD. Copy all files to PC, format the card, restore files. The media scanner will now end it's process in a matter of minutes :good:
So I've investigated a bit during the past few days, those are the results:
- Media server is not anymore keeping the device awake that much
- It seems that RocketPalyer is using a lot of CPU compared to what it was doing on my Note 3.
- Battery drain still seems a bit random, yesterday for example i got 16 hours with 4h and 3min of screen time, today I'm already at 56% after 5h and only 1h and 20min of screen time (I'ìve not changed what I did with the device that much, and I'm under same network and wifi as yesterday at work)
I think that if I want to understand why sometimes is acting weird I will have to root and use wakelock detectors, btw now that I saw that the device is not faulty (I was able to get good battery time on some days) I'm not afraid that much anymore to root it.
Thanks everyone

I get 2.5 to 3 on work days.
I get spotty signal at my desk and the skytrain makes my phone go on a major drain
Has anyone experienced drastic loss of battery charge? I had mine on the charger and after unplugging for 13 min it went from 100% to 87%
There might be a app that drains a lot, i had a fast drain too, not as bad but once i deleted a few apps it was better. I have over 100 apps on this phone :X
Odd thing is , I just did a factory reset and if I don't use the phone the stats show 14 hrs + but.as soon as I start using it . It starts dropping super fast
Are you rooted? Have you Xposed installed?
Do you have a microSD inserted?
Never rooted this phone and I do have an SD card in it, would that affect?
Yes/no , sometimes the SD files can be somewhat corrupted which in turn makes your media scanner run non stop,.if you pull your SD and put into a Windows cpu, and run a program to scan for corrupted files,. I've not had high battery drain but I do check my stats and Android O.S. is by far the largest consumer (damn I miss root) verizon

Try to use it without microSD card for a while and look at what happens...
On my old Moto Z many reported overheating and battery drain with uncompatible cards...
Anyway post a screenshot of your setup - battery stats after some hours since boot up...
