Up until recently my GPS has been working great. Fast locks, good accuracy, no problems. I was on MA7 rooted/deodexed. About the time I started getting nagged about MC2 udpates, my GPS started having intermittent issues getting a lock and maintaining. And it has only gotten worse. Often, I can get a lock immediately after I reboot, but after a minute it doesn't work anymore. Today, I updated to MC2 rooted/deodexed (as well as the firmware) and still have the same issues. I can get a lock immediately after booting, but after that nothing can get a GPS location. Some apps will grab the network location, but not GPS.
Has anyone else experienced this? There was no change in ROM between when the GPS was working and when it stopped. Any ideas on what I need to do? I'm trying to avoid fully wiping the phone and setting everything up again if possible. But if I can't find a solution, I just may have to do that this weekend and see if it helps.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Update: I cleared the running applications and was able to get a gps lock again. I think my problem has to do with something I have installed. I will have to do more testing.
Have you found anything new? Because I've been having major problems as of late

Yeah, I know that seems to be a pretty common issue with the Desire HD, but hear me out!
I had my DesireHD for about a month and I love it. Been trying various CustomRoms and so on. A week or so ago I noticed that my GPS is no longer working. I think I was using CM7 back then. I decided to flash a different rom to see if that fixes the issue. Well, unfortunately not. I then tried a few different Radio images, but that also did not fix the problem. I just can't get a fix. It did work fine with different ROMs previously though. I went back to the very first RUU update (which includes 1.32. or something and the radio) BUT I still can't get a GPS fix.
Is the device "broken" or is there still anything I could try? With all the wipes, restores, different ROMs, I should have "replaced" all software parts that could cause issues, right? I read that there is something like GPS cache that could be deleted, but not sure if that's done with full wipes etc, anyway?
Any suggestions? I'd hate to send the device in as it's likely going to take "forever" to get it repaired.
Thanks in advance,
BoB!
Hi Bob.
How long do you wait for it to get a fix? As far as I know, the first time whenever you flash new ROMs, it will often take much longer than usual. After the first time, it will normally take about less than a 2 minutes.
Got try using FasterFix to set your ntp?
Do you install GPS Status from the market to perhaps monitor the amount of satellite found by your device? You can also use to download A-GPS data.
I used to suffer a lot of problem waiting to get a fix (I hate waiting especially when it comes to GPS). But now it seems to be behaving. Lol. Could get a fix between 5-15 seconds. Now at most it will take is still less than a minute. Hopefully this will go on. Lol.
Hi, I had alot of problems with my GPS. Tried with different radios and ROMS. Found satelites but could not get a fix.
Unrooted and sent my phone to a repair shop. They found out that there was a problem with the GPS antenna and changed that. Will get my phone back over the weekend. Hopefully that fixed the problem.
This could also be your problem. Unroot your phone and send it to the guys that now what they are doing
Hey I just flashed Syndicate Frozen yesterday and have not been able to get GPS to lock. I've reflashed it a few times, and one of those times it worked just fine but then it kept turning itself off every time the screen went dark, and I would have to remove the battery to turn it back on again.
Needless to say I've reflashed it a few more times and am still dealing with the GPS lock issue. Is there a fix for this?
Great
Oh and I must say that other then the GPS issue, I think that this ROM is AWESOME!
Try flashing the GPS fix again, not the sync fix... I would link but I'm busy...
Im getting tired of changing this...
try downloading gps status and tools from the market and in tools clear a-gps status.
I've been running the only official lt28 JB firmware for over a month now on an LT28at with AT&T as the carrier. Overall pretty happy with it, haven't noticed any 'day 1' bugs accept for the video recording lag (which for whatever reason is phone playback only? on my pc, through vlc, all the video's look great.)
However, only July 22nd, Google released the updated maps app....and things have kind of gone south for literally anything gps related ever since...
The issue is tricky. After i installed the updated maps app, my phone froze on the map screen while searching for a gps signal. After about 5 seconds, the phone rebooted...but it wasn't a full reboot it seemed...it only took another 5 seconds or so before i was back at the lock screen. If i hadn't been physically looking at the phone, i never would've noticed it happened. Before this update; i had never encountered this problem.
After the kind of 'mini' reboot thing...no matter what, any gps related app (my tracks, gps status, Torque Pro, etc.) would do exactly the same thing. If i turned the gps off or never used a gps related app, the phone would function normal as ever...after manually rebooting the phone by either a full reset, or just turning the phone on and off...the gps would function normally again...I could get a lock, could use any of the apps, etc...
after a few hours, though...it would freeze up on gps stuff again, and get into the same boot loop issue with any time the gps sensor was used.
I've tried rolling back maps, but the problem remains...and i'm kind of stuck now...I'm positive this showed up with the newest maps update, as i had been using JB for a while before it and never had any gps problem of any kind...
what i've tried so far:
flashed an AT&T ICS firmware back...gps functioned properly for 2 days without a single problem. because this is an LT28at, pc companion cannot do a repair for this firmware. I get a 'we couldn't find any software for this device' or something of that nature. I've wiped everything through flashtool, and reflashed multiple times, without any form of back up data. I'm not rooted anymore, as i wasn't crazy about the rooting method for JB to begin with. figured i'd just wait for the time being.
tried 2 different .ftf files of the same JB firmware...both have the problem.
clearing cache of any gps related app i have doesn't seem to effect anything.
the only thing that seems consistent is that the problem only starts happening after the phone has been on for a few hours. If it try gps after a fresh boot, it works perfectly. If i try again a few hours later, most of the time it freezes and quickly resets, but keeps doing it non-stop until i shut the phone off.
is anyone having anything like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
EDIT: this can be marked as solved i guess...found info on other phones with 4.1.2 having similar problems...something to do with memory allocation and the adreno 220 gpu...rooting and running a memory tweaker/task killer (greenify or autokiller memory optimizer both worked) has been a good enough work around for the time being...hasn't happened once since i switched autokiller to 'aggressive' memory management...no gps problems, and not one redraw...phone is actually running better than new now haha...
Yes one of those threads again, I do apologize in advance..
The GPS on my E973 is useless, I tried the GPS status app and its trying to lock for 30 minutes now, doesn't work outdoors, indoors, anywhere.. I checked the settings, everything seems correct, A-GPS data is downloaded..
I'm running stock 4.1.2 but rooted (GPS wasn't working before root either).. Tried this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44113974#post44113974 but it didn't work..
My previous phone (GS3) had exact same problem whereby GPS would not lock at ALL. The only fix that worked was NAM REBUILD in one of those Samsung hidden menus, it fixed the problem and GPS would even lock in my basement!
Are there any similar fixes for LGOG, can someone please help me out to find solutions? Thanks
bump,
anyone else have GPS issues with this phone?

UPDATE: GPS WORKS. I just went to settings, opened/closed GPS and made sure everything was ticked off.. Reset phone.. Then went outside and waited for 10 minutes and it locked on.. I used GPS Status App, reset A-GPS and downloaded new data..
However, it took a while and isn't as consistent as I hoped it would be, only locks onto 6/15 satellites... Unlike my friends GS4 and Nexus 4 which gets 20/21 satellites locked on.. Its also not good indoors..
But I'm just glad it works..
If you're locked into as many as ten satellites is there any reason to have erratic GPS performance?
I got a refurbished S3 from Sprint and the GPS is a freaking mess. I can be standing perfectly still and the map starts moving around erratically, sometimes even straight backwards. Other times I'll be driving and it will show me on a totally different street or moving in a totally wrong direction. Sometimes this is going on when I'm locked into as many as ten satellites.
Shouldn't that be enough to get a good fix? Does this suggest that the GPS receiver is working well but there is a software problem? Or is this a hardware problem that can't be fixed?
I reset/downloaded agps data with GPS Status, I've tried TopNTP and I've tightened every visible screw. Nothing has helped. I also can't get a fix indoors like I used to be able to with my original S3.
Any suggestions on other things I can try to make my GPS work or is this a hardware problem that can't be fixed?
This is the fourth or fifth refurbished Android phone I've received from Sprint over the years and not a single one has worked right. It's like they don't ever really address the reported problem. They just factory reset the phone, give it a cosmetic facelift and then ship it back out without any testing.

What Rom are you using ? Did it behave like this before rooting ?

I'm totally stock 4.3, just rooted. I rooted it pretty soon after I got it so I don't remember if it was like this right off the bat. I believe it was.
Weird thing is that today I tried turning of Google location services and that seemed to help a lot. It doesn't seem to be getting a lock while indoors but when I'm driving around I'm not getting the erratic map behavior I had before. No idea if it will work for long, there have been a few other times when I thought I fixed the problem and it came right back.
I know on my previous phone I had Google location services on and it worked like a charm. Anyone have an idea why turning location services off helps and what I can do to make GPS work right with location services off?
Any real downside to keeping location services off?
I've always kept it on. But if your Stock rooted, and have that big an issue with GPS. I would almost be inclined to say it's a hardware issue. You could always Nand, and flash a coherent Rom. Just to see if it resolves the issue.
TEAM MiK MikROMs Since 3/13/11
After driving extensively with Google location services turned off I did not experience any more erratic behavior. Problem solved but I'd like to have location services on.
Tonight I turned location services back on and it still seems to be working fine with no erratic behavior. I haven't given this as thorough of a test but I'm optimistic.
I have no idea why turning location services off fixed things but if anyone comes across this thread looking for a solution to GPS problems try turning Google location services off and see if that helps. It looks to have done the trick for me.
