Well I had the S4 for a week before going back to an HTC one and now the G pro. I had the octa core version and it's a nice size, feels very comfortable in the hand, light and has a beautiful display. Nice battery life, great camera, love multiwindow and airview. Also charges fast. But it lags a lot, I mean a LOT. There's been a recent update so maybe that fixed things.
I just got the Optimus G pro yesterday and I love it so far. It's so fast and smooth, I love the transition effects, love the display (really amazing), love the big screen, battery life is the best, charges fast, also has removable battery and expandable storage plus it comes with 32gig. I prefer the G pro but the S4 is great also.
Development is better on the galaxy s 4 side but here we have ppl working hard to unlock the boot loader. Once that's done it's going to be an even better experience. We already have root. I personally would recommend the G pro if you don't mind bigger phones (and honestly it isn't that big). Otherwise s4 is also a great choice. It's up to you.

i had the s3, then went to the note2. i was about to purchase the s4 but bought the xperia zl instead. the small screen size (5inch) was a big factor in why a got rid of the zl for the og pro. try the og pro cuz the s4 is just a hold over to the note3.
I had the s4 for 2 days lots of lag! Og pro is definitely the better device

I was traveling with my GS4 when the lag got to me and I marched into an AT&T store and bought the Optimus G. I have no regrets. The GS4 has a lot of potential, but it's hampered by a poor user experience thanks to the constant lag. The recent update for the AT&T model did not resolve this.
The Optimus G runs buttery smooth all the time and, while it might not have as many features, most of the useful ones are covered and LG even has a few twists of their own that I find preferable.
I had note2 lte , i bought HTC one, s4 and g pro e988 (all lte version) within the first week of June, but now I only got s4 on hand, g pro battery actually no better than half of note 2 lte version, and the thermal control setting is too low, I found that it turn down the CPU frequency when temp reach 37c, once that happened, everything just turn noticeable lag, even got typing problem, tho I type quite fast.. at the end I keep my s4 and gave g pro to my brother and sold the others..

Thermal throttling can be disabled. And the G Pro has way better than half the Note 2's battery life.

Hello guys! I have recently decided to buy a new phone, and after some searching on the internet, I cannot decide between the following phones (they all have the same price from where I buy them): Optimus G, Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 LTE. I would go for the nexus because of the fast updates coming from Google and the powerful hardware, but I don't like that it has the buttons on the screen and I would really like an LTE phone because it is more future reliable. I like the Optimus G and the S3, but I can't decide between them. I like both interfaces, they have similar hardware, and also the storage is much bigger. I don't think that the Nexus has enough storage and I am afraid that Optimus G won't receive many updates. I mean it's stuck on 4.1.2 for quite a long...
So, in conclusion, I would like a phone that will receive updates (like 4.4 kitkat) and that has a nice interface and powerful hardware. So which one should I choose? Thank you in advance.

you want lte or you use or will use lte?
if lte is a must S3 has better camera
if camera is not an issue optimus G
you can always use cyanogenMod for future updates.
I say the S3 cos it has the most customizability. If there's any thing u don't like. U can change it. Also. The S3 is the best for gaming, has the best camera, and it is more well known. Which means anytime u want to know something about your phone. Search it up and I almost guarantee that you'll find it. Oh yeah. People have started to repair soft bricked and hard bricked Samsung Galaxies. Whereas other phones don't get that kinda support. (Geez I'm acting like I'm in a dam commercial).

I would like yto have lte because it seems more future proof and soon it will ne available in my city. i also heard that s3 has a poor quality built.
No s3 lte. Is worse than normal s3. Nexus4 or G. But n4 has no lte. It's a big deal,i see you're from romania. If you think 8/16gb are enough and you want the latest android on your phone, but no lte, then buy the n4. If you don't care about that, but you still want 32gb of storage,a sturdy device, with flawless lg ui(it's way lighter and better than samsung's tw),with a more than decent camera, lte connection, then go for the g. Make sure it will be e975. Other models will not have 4g in romania.

S3 doesn't have poor built quality, its the material used what people bugged about.
if you are in US, S3 will be a dualcore with 2GB ram, rest of the world its quad core with 1GB ram, left the LTE version i9305 which is quadcore + 2GB RAM. so search your options.
Can never go wrong with Optimus G!

Hi,
2 months ago I also had the same issue and went for the Optimus G. I left out the N4 because the 16GB maximum storage and the lack of LTE. Regarding the S3, from the hardware point of view, I don’t think it can compete with the OG.
OG
Slighty better CPU
Much better GPU
Better display (at least for me; colors more realistic)
Better materials; feels more robust
S3
Some say it has better camera (however, for a smartphone, my only complaint about the OG’s camera has to do with the autofocus. It's not a big deal but sometimes it gets a little erratic. I don't know about the S3; OG E975 has 13Mpx)
Lighter (the consequence of the materials used)
Probably better support regarding ROM updates (let’s hope LG has learned from their mistakes)
However, you can always opt for a custom ROM. OG is not as popular as S3 but you can easily confirm here at XDA that you have many options for OG. I’m still using LGOG original ROM (E97510H-EUR-XX) and it’s very fast and stable, even with 100+ apps installed.

Just my 2 cents on the display... S3 has a Super AMOLED screen, while OG has an IPS LCD. People's opinions on the differences are quite polarized, but in my book a good LCD beats AMOLED anytime, hands down. More realistic colours, less "cartoonish". And the display on OG is just awesome -- I have a couple S3 owners commenting on how surprised they were about it.

once you use a good super amoled plus you will never ever want to go anywhere no matter how greater the LCD screen is, but if you are like me or someone who don't like too vibrant colors (most people like vibrant color) newer LCD's specially from LG are very very Good.
also remember Samsung has altered the display of S4 and now S3 via software update to give you option to make is realistic color and many didn't realize this and never tried it.
Note:
people also doesn't know amoled has a very short life span vs the LCD panels, and this lifespan is about the color reproduction not the working life. so a 2 year old amoled screen will look terrible in-front of a new amoled and more than 2 year old amoled will give you strange color balance, many doesn't know this and say amoled is Sh=t.
Samsung set the standard with those over saturated colours. Being the no1 player on the market, the average user take for granted this is how a screen should be like. And the other manufacturers play samsung's game too. Take lg for example, although we have ips lcd,the coulours ARE in fact a litle over saturated. So,mentioning the colours is irrelevant. I would go for sunlight visibility, which is better for lg. The materials, also a plus for g. S3 lte has about the same custom support like our g. And i said it before, neck to neck, the kicks the butt of s3 lte.

lgog? why not n4 vs n5? n5 is a lot better then lgog(no offense to lgog) because lgog is so slower because of lg rom, never gets any update(Hell they still on 4.4) and both have the same storage, but the n5 have way better performance, i saw lgog doing 11k on antutu(ok, benchs are not 100% ok but they do tell some history).if i would ask that i would do nexus 4 vs 5, then because of dev support and google support i would recommend the n5 just if u need 32gb or if u are a full android enthusiast that needs the lastest hardware .

To get a good opinion here you should tell the price difference on both phones, because IMHO don't make sense compare N5 with LGOG you should compare N5 with G2 and LGOG with N4.
Personally I prefer LG on both, even if I need to pay a little more.

1st i didnt say im mobile expert, but i used lg og on the 1st days(thats why i tried to flash lgog rom on my n4,went all fine but no touch), it was like the s3, it was not slow, but games that lag there, dont lag on my n4, games like gta vice city were doing lag spikes on stock and custom,on my n4 it dosent,ah also google chrome is wayyy more slower then on my n4, and both have the same hardware(few modifications).
Didnt say its a really slow device, but the gain of performance that i had on n4 can be only said because of pure android.
PS: yea that typo on 4.4 i meant 4.1.
Games are running better on the OG. That is fact. And about Antutu, the OG also scores higher. The only really big plus point for the nexus is the Google support.
at first, say, what you need, what you do with the phone, what do you like!
and 4,7" with softkeys ist the same as 5" without softkeys (yes, since 4.4 there is a fullscreen mode but not in all apps
i bought a o G because i like lg UI soo much, i dont like aosp!
quality in both phone is identic
Chrome lags on vanilla too. It's a crappy coded app. Period. Does chrome come as default browser on og?no.do you have lag on stock browser?again,no.So why do you bring to discussion a 3rd party app? Lg may have give use 4.1.2,but at least it's light and very well optimized.
The only thing i don't like about lg ui is the damn launcher. 4x4 grid and that hideous 320dpi is a no go.

no overlay on the android from LG at all.
i own a Nexus 7 and i totally love stock android it just is running better then anything else, it's too bad my phone just ain't happy with a custom rom so i can run something like stock android.
I said it before, having a nexus is like having a supersport car. You will have ultimate speed, but no comfort. So,getting a good optimized device like optimus g won't be a loss. You have both speed and comfort.

Hey guys, I currently own a Nexus S and I'm probably gonna upgrade in about a month.
Was wondering if the Optimus G is still worth the upgrade? It has all the specs I need,
-Removable battery
-Expandable memory
-2GB ram
-4.7inch screen (as big as I'm willing to go...although I can compromise)
-Great custom roms
-Hardware buttons!!!
My only gripe is that from looking around this forum, it looks like developer interest might already be fading and the only reason I've been on the Nexus S this long is cause of the great developer support, I like my phones to last long.
If not this phone, then which? Thanks.
The E975 doesn't have removable battery.Neither the expandable memory. Make sure you buy a phone that works in your country.
The memory should not be a problem(you have 25.4gb available)
The battery is good,no need to carry an extra one in your pocket.
The display is great, way better than samsung's amoleds.
About the roms, yes, there are great builds, but,to be honest, nothing is compared to stock. now i'm runing on a stock rom, modded like it says in my signature.is fast as hell .If you are a flashcoholic, you have where to pick from(stock based roms, 4.2,4.3,even 4.4 roms).
The only downside is that LG sucks at updates. While you were used to nexus serie, which has pure vanilla and official google updates,it won't be the case for Optimus. But you won't miss it either. the software is as good as it can be, miles ahead of touchwizz.
My advice, yes, you can buy this phone,it still is top notch.

Yeah I know, it seems the only thing that does nowadays is the S4 and I don't want that so I'm just gonna suck it up and compromise.
About battery life, I've heard the Nexus 5 battery isn't that great either but I'm guessing rom/kernel hopping will take care of that for me lmao Battery issue of phones is why I usually narrow my search to removable batteries only but alas, can't have everything.
in UK,go for E975. What's the price you found it there? If you want,i can make you a great offer for a mint condition E975 . We'll talk on PM if you're interested.
@sunnytse1 if you don't know how to use the phone, please don't make these kind of remarks.
I'd recommend you getting a HTC One or S4. I mean they cost about the same as optimus g and you'll be able to flash google edition roms.
Optimus G is ok. I mean it is fast as hell and screen is quite good, but battery life sucks, glass back will shatter, and camera quality is sub bar. So if can get one cheap - take it. If not, go with Nexus 5 or other GPlay phones.
Totally agree with you about battery life, it's great! (Im using stock rom btw)
Lol....one and s4 at the same price with og?where is that?i'll give you mine for either one of those to. Just to sell it and buy a g2.slowly the g is improving. Latest update i received made my phone even snapier, and it has improved camera quality.we might not get latest android, but i'm ok if they improve 4.1.2. A lot complain about lg not providing update to a newer version, but if i ask why do they want it,they start to blabber non sense.i'm not minimizing the importance of 4.2,4.3 or 4.4,but,in my opinion,it's overrated.i rather have a stable 4.1.2,than a newer buggy version.

Wow, so much wrong in everything.
HTC One and S4 don't really cost about the same as Optimus G.
On the LGOG battery life doesn't suck at all (I have stock rom, no root and always get at least 30 hours from it with normal-to-heavy use), and the camera quality is very good if you use an app that isn't the stock one. About the glass back, wut?
Anyway, between LGOG and N5 I'd definitely choose N5.
between N5 and OG,i'll choose G2,but that's another matter. OP....choose whatever you like and suits you.
Well yeah g2 is better than n5, but I doubt you can find one for the same price. Also n5 will definitely have more updates than g2.
Omfg...just stop it already with the updates. You guys start to sound like a broken record. Lg makes great software. It's the most stable from all oem's. If vanilla is so good, then why are so many complains on nexus sections? In europe there no price difference between g2 and n5. G2 32gb is 450 euros,n5 16gb 420euros,if you are lucky to live in a country with play store. If not, you'll pay more. I'm talking about official channels not gray or black market. So,tell me which one is worthed.

Also, quick other question, the Lg Optimus G, which version of android is the latest official update? 4.1? 4.2? 4.3?
I can get either one, both for the same price (16 gb moto g vs e975 optimus g)
Moto g got weaker gpu. Will always be on newer android officially. Screen better on Optimus G, moto G screen got slight bad viewing angles

LG OptimusG: slightly better camera, 2gb Ram, good build-quality, LTE. Lots of more or less usefull software addtions but uggly and based off android 4.1. E975 has never gotten an android update and most probably never will although it has a similar hardware to nexus 4. 32gb of storage.
Moto G: Android 4.3 and the guaranty to get 4.4 early next year. SoC is very battery efficient, camera is worse than on e975. gaming will be in most cases similar to optimus g but if you want to multitask 2gb of rams would have been better.
i'd prefer optimus g if you don't mind that lg gives a **** on software support. otherwise i'd choose the moto g, it's a good phone too, but lacks of storage and ram.
You mention lack of android updates from LG on the optimus G, I was just reading about that updated officially to 4.1 only, but custom roms seem to get 4.3 and I think even 4.4, that true? Thanks for the responses.
Upgrading from my galaxy nexus, so either will be an upgrade really

e975 was released with android 4.1 in europe, so it technically never got an update.
i came from galaxy nexus to optimus g too, and it was a huge upgrade. especially the screen and the 2gigs of RAM where really great. yes there are even 4.4 rom's and they are pretty good. our devs do a really good job but don't expect a rom-selection as big as on galaxy nexus.
The xda community is great for support. I do not pretend to expect a rom community as big as the galaxy nexus, I thought I was going to change roms and test alot out on my galaxy nexus, ended up sticking to paranoid android, cyanogenmod, and such. So long as there is a stable (daily driver capable) version of android 4.3 or 4.4 for this phone, I would be happy.
Can't compare moto G with OG. MG has other market target. It's aiming at chinese phones..in the 200-300 price range. it will never compete with high end android devices.i wouldn't buy a chinese quad core from a no name chinese brand if i'd had to choose between moto g and one of those. but between og and mg...og all the way.
BTW...this is my last post here as a LG OPTIMUS G OWNER...i just sold mine for 320 euros..tomorrow i'll get a S4 for about 3 weeks, then i'll buy the G2. It was a great time spent here. Enjoy your phones guys. i'll enter from time to time,to see what happens here and to bash those who deserve it
OG always. I have the twice and say that OG is better.

@kimitza, good luck with your new toy (just in time for Christmas, I guess )! Thank you very much for all the support you've been providing to OG community! For me, as a recent new OG user, your posts were the first source of some valuable info. Your help is most greatly appreciated! :good:
thanks,but i won't be gone for good...i'll still help if i can.
I have both phones, and have to say I'm very impressed with the Moto G, mainly in terms of battery power and vibrant screen. Colours pop a little better than the optimus G which is a bit dull in comparison. Gaming performance is similar, but the optimus G is slightly faster. Obviously Moto G is easier to handle in one hand, and sound is more rounded on the Moto G (Optimus has more treble). Optimus G is still my main phone, however Moto G is an outstanding backup phone and recommended IMO.
Motorola G is the best phone on price/quality. It costs half price than optimus g, in my country, and it offers the same on hardware, with some differences.
