I cracked the screen on my T-Mobile ssg3 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Do I need just the top screen and the digitizer? Does anyone know what the part no. on amazon would be. Thanks

Is the digitizer okay? Responds to touch and isn't damaged? If so, then all you'll need is the glass and a lot of patience.

If all you need is the screen, they run about $15 on eBay. I would suggest watching a few youtube videos of the replacement unless you've previously done so.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why cases are available for purchase. Seriously though, you need some sort of protection for an expensive device like the S3 or the S4. Protect your investment and get a case next time to prevent damage from falls.

See tutorial here.

I tried to replace the screen and I broke the digitizer. I got the replaced through insurance but is there any way to retrieve the data from the old phone with the digitizer being broken??? The phone cuts on and when I plug it into the computer it recognizes it as a camera and shows no files. I tried kies but it says I need to unlock the phone which I cant. Any help is appreciated.

I retrieved my data on my old phone by takomg both phones apart trading out the motherboards amd copying tbe old files to my computer. Them I swapped the motherboards back. The whole process took about 30 min.

It's a pretty easy fix and you can buy replacement digitizers on eBay.

Yes you can, its not that hard with the proper tools, steady hands, and a nice clean place to work.

Good luck and godspeed.
I took my Evo into Sprint because I had some obnoxious dust underneath the screen and they replaced my LCD for the price of 0.
You think they'd do the same cracked?

I'm not sure of their exact policy, but I know that it changed sometime a couple months ago. They used to be very good with replacing cracked screens, and it'd either be free, or just for a minimal 35 bucks. Now I believe that if the crack is bigger than an inch, they won't fix it, and will tell you to send it to Asurion if you have it. I would just call your local Sprint store and ask them what their policies are on having a cracked screen. Or just go down there and see what happens.
I have a replacement LCD and digitizer for sale, all one piece so you don't mess up with just the digitizer which is not that easy
Thas Allota love right there

He said using a t4 driver... I used a t5 when I replaced my speaker.
i know some sprint stores dont even bother fixing screens anymore. they wouldn't fix mine. it was still under warranty so i sent it back to HTC and they had it back to me within 5 days FREE of charge had to unroot my phone and put the stock sprint ruu back on though
if it weren't under warranty, i would definitely do it myself. its easy. just a little know how and the right tools. its surprising how easy these htc phones come apart.
Anyways... Good luck!

please I news to know now cause o bought it

how do you know if your evo screen is in 2 parts or one whole part?

Mine is a 3rd generation and the touch screen or digitizer and the lcd are two separate parts. I recently replaced the touch screen (digitizer) after dropping it. 26.00 Ebay..

Search on Youtube and you can find video tutorials of how to take apart the phone. I tried to do it and it didn't go well for me, but my LCD was also cracked and so was the case, so I literally had to take everything off of my old phone and transfer it to another case assembly. In the process of removing the flex cable antennas, I broke two of them and had to order a replacement. I'm just found the parts I need to fix it yesterday.
If all you have to do is the digitizer, then me personally, I don't think it is too hard. I recommend getting and LCD/digitizer combo to make things easier; even if your LCD is still intact. I only bought the digitizer, and it turned out my LCD was also cracked and had to order it separately.
If you've never done anything like this before, then I also suggest you find a repair shop and let them do it. Buy the parts yourself and pay them for the labor.
ok I bought the digitizer and I guess ill go to a repair shoo and let them do it

Not to be jerk man, but to be honest, you might want to look into having a professional do it for you. You've been posting about replacing your screen for a week!

I've never had to replace my screen, so I can't offer any specific advice for you. All I know, is that if I were to perform a repair such as that, I would have researched it a lot, bought a pry tool and some other tools for the job, and figured out what type of adhesive to use. Did you try google? Im sure there's a specific type of adhesive that you need to use.

Are you under warranty, or did you buy insurance?
I font remember if not what happens
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
If not then you can buy a replacement screen for it and change it yourself. There are some video tutorials that will walk you through step by step. That will probably be cheaper than a new replacement phone.
Ok . I thought they gave u a free newer phone

If that was the case I think there are several people that would have "accidentally" dropped their phones...
Ha guess so

Yeah your best bet is just to replace the screen. It is not a difficult procedure. I know of a few guys on here who have done it. I have not done the Inc 2 but many others.

From my past experience, if you tell Verizon you dropped the phone and it broke, they aren't going to replace it, even if it's under warranty. If it's insured (though Asurion or a similar company), you'll have to pay your deductible and they will send you a replacement phone. Generally, the replacement will be a refurbished version of the same model phone.
If you aren't comfortable disassembling your phone and you have insurance, you're probably best off paying the deductible and getting a new phone. If you have the tools and knowledge to replace the screen yourself, that'll be the cheapest and easiest way to fix it. As for unrooting the phone if you do decide to send it in, it's probably not a bad idea if you can reasonably do so.

I was in a similar situation about a month ago. Except it wasn't my screen, the Micro USB port broke. I also had root. I just drained the battery so they wouldn't find out.

Just an FYI, one of the first things they test is the battery. They swap in a fully charged battery and see what happens.

Has anyone had any success with onex screen repair?

I dropped my onex and managed to break the screen. I replaced it with a galaxy note 2 but I still love the onex and would like to salvage it for use with my second line.
Has anyone had any success with having the the onex screen repaired?

I dropped mine too and replaced the screen myself. If you have a little experience you won't find it difficult. Btw you can watch many how to videos on YouTube and find fairly cheap genuine replacements on eBay.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I never did it myself, there are several guides on YouTube but I think the most crucial step is ordering the right part ie screen+digitizer already put together and not one of those parts seperately.
most likely only your digitizer is broken, not the screen itself but it is rely hard to place a new digitizer yourself, a big chance of misalignment or capturing air or dust
I have ordered mine from ebay screen+digitizer together, i tryed first to detach the digitizer but i broke the lcd its almost imposible to do so...believe me im quite skillfull with electronics.
Replaced two broken touches + lcds in my service. No problems, but this is my work
I replaced the screened on my atrix with a so called genuine one from eBay but it scratched right up in a few days so I'm guessing it wasn't quite as genuine gorilla glass as the original.

Broke my screen. Is 250 euro to fix it excessive?

Hello there
A few days ago I was using the public transport when my Note II fell on the ground. When my girlfriend asked if it was broken, I replied that the Note II was unbreakable. When I picked it up my screen was broken (karma hits player 1 for one million thousand trillion points). I mailed to the store I bought it from and they told me it would cost 250 euro's.
I'm wondering whether this is a normal price for a screen replacement.
Thank you for the replies!
Stores always want to rip you off! I have seen issues about screen on the galaxy s3 which obviously is different but almost the same. The glass can be bought for under $10 online and there are plenty of YouTube videos with instructions on how to do change it yourself. So to answer your question yes I think $250 is wayyyyy too much
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
If it were me, I'd attempt to fix it myself, after reading up extensively and making sure I had the right tools.
Only you can contemplate whether it's worth it for you, watch some YouTube and make a decision

The alternative is getting it fixed in a local 'foreign' shop here in my city. Not entirely reliable, but I have little to lose.

Did you ask if they were going to change just the front glass or the whole display such as glass+ digitizer+amoled? Because if it's just the glass then it would be a major rip off! It's not that simple to just change the glass since it glued with an adhesive and you'll need to be very careful when removing it.

Well they said they had to replace everything, which probably explains the hefty price tag.

I'd do some research before running to pay. These companies tell us w/e they want in hopes of making more money off customers
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
First of all. If the screen is scratched or broken but still works it means than the screen is not damaged. Only upper glass over screen is broken and you can buy one from ebay for 20$ and replace yourself by video tutorial on youtube. Anyway if you fail to repar it yourself you can anytime go and replace whole screen for 250 eur. But I think its worth to try to repair upper glass only if screen is still responding after damage.
