[Q] red LED only! Help!!! - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I picked up a tmo s3 that was rooted by the previous owner (or he had it rooted, more accurately), it does not boot at all, no recovery or download mode, I have tried to use the toolkit 7.0 for it, the computer can tell it was plugged in ( hdwr discovered sound win8) but no serial number displayed. The led shows dimly red when the battery is plugged in, brightly with it out and plugged into laptop or charger. Any ideas if this thing can be unbricked? Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have Odin, but need a little help to put it to work, I open odin, but it doesn't indicate that the phone is there at all, I've used Odin on another phone to restore root on an s3 after an OTA update, but the condition of this non-booting s3 has me stumped.

Did you check if the phone actually worked when you bought it from him? Well if the phone cannot enter recovery or download mode, there is no way of restoring its original firmware...meaning its hard bricked.

Could battery charge level prevent the phone from going into download mode? I read somewhere that the battery can be too low to get there. Also any idea why the red LED glows brightly when the battery is out, and the phone is plugged into the charger, but dimly when the battery is in and its plugged to the charger??
Something is happening when I attempt to go into download mode, as I hear the hardware discovered sound on the laptop. I have a jtag somewhere, would that allow forcing the original firmware?
Thanks for your responses!

***Update***
I sent the phone in to be unbricked for about $30, we shall see if it will in fact be a paperweight....
If it comes back to life I'll be a happy camper, if not a bad gambler...

Help! Power button broke and have to return to stock

So the other night, my power button literally stopped working. I called Verizon and requested another device to be sent to me, but now I have to return this thing to stock before I send it back. I've tried to Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit by Wug, but my device won't show up. I can't get into bootloader mode because my power button won't work!!
Is there anything else I can do?

Is your phone on? Just use adb's command "adb reboot bootloader". If your phone is off, I don't know how you can turn it on without a power button.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
connect to your computer and use
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
when you finally need to power it off to send it in, just pull the battery.
adb won't recognize my device. =/ It's stuck off.
You shouldn't have to worry then because they won't be able to turn it on either. lol

Uh.. Yeah they will. The physical power button isn't working but as they unscrew the Galaxy nexus they can trigger the mechanic to power the phone on. And then just replace the button and reflash it to stock and then resell the phone.
If they see that the device was already bootloader unlocked, don't be surprised to see additional charges on your next bill.

Have you tried the GN Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
If i remember correct, when the phone is ON, you can connect the phone, then reboot it with the GN toolkit to bootloader and install stock.
I think that could solve your problem
Take the battery out, plug the phone in, and then replace the battery. See if it will power up by itself.

Things I have tried:
GN Rootkit (adb/fastboot won't recognize device)
Plugging phone into computer and restarting computer
Draining battery and allowing to charge in phone until enough juice to turn on automatically
Plugging phone in with no battery
Nothing will work. Never tried a USB jig. Guess I will order one and see if that helps. Never used one before but I guess a google search will help. Guess I'll call Verizon and ask them to extend my return period before they bill me for the device.
Tried the naked drivers?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875
Usb jig will bring you to download mod ,then you have option to reboot(automatic phone turns on) ...befor you can flash stock rom and no more problems!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
i highly doubt they will send the verizon police to repossess the replacement for when the find the unlocked bootloader.
you can send it in rooted
I had Verizon replace my last phone with Asurion insurance because of a blown speaker. The phone was running Cyanogen. There was no problem.
To be clear:
1. The phone was CLEARLY running Cyanogen because it powered on, showed the CM7 boot animation, and worked perfectly
2. They never called me, hassled me, or anything. Just credited my account.
good luck
Got into Odin mode, but no options to reboot. Just says "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!" The only option displayed is "Start" but I'd have to use the power button to select it (can't do that lol). What can I do from Odin?
Well, pretty sure I just hard-bricked it, so whatever.
Downloaded this: i9250xx_itl41f_fl.zip
and ran it while the phone was connected to the computer in odin mode.
Was kind of distracted by gf and didn't verify that it was for CDMA. I guess its GSM only. Anyways, now the jig won't bring up Odin mode, and I have an imagine of a phone connected to a monitor with a yellow exclaimation triangle between the two.
Guess that's it.
Found a CMDA odin image. gonna try to flash this. didnt realize you needed Odin3 too, lol. Will let you guys know how it worked..
Image worked. Back to stock 4.0.2. I suppose that means it's unrooted. Used the GN Rootkit to relock bootloader. I don't know if stock recovery is installed or not, though. I tried to reboot into recovery using the rootkit, but i just got a red triangle. Any ideas?

Hard Bricked MY GS2 Needing help

Hi guys what my phone is currently doing is when ever i plug it into the computer it says disk needs to be formated but it kicks off every 2-3 seconds it does that and it just generates a bunch of format windows on my comp. the phone does not turn on, does not go to into recovery nor does it try to boot tried these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359 and more but does nothing except for when i plug the phone into the computer it starts doing what i have described above.
thanks for looking and any information is greatly appreciated.
That sounds like a hard brick for sure. How did it happen? Looks like jtag or warrenty or insurance claim is your only solution.

What happened to cause this issue did you try to root or flash a rom, phone will not go into recovery or download mode?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
i had recently updated the recovery because the old one kept acting up and this one did as well like it would take for ever and when i would try to clear the cache it would just be there and do nothing only way was to remove the battery and put it back on but this time i tried to do a format instead of just cache cleaning to get a fresh install but it just never turned back on it had been trying to format for a half hour so i thought that was enough time hmm im wondering how that warranty would go cause the phone is in mint condition.
What did you update it to? And how?

I am having an exactly same issue. I can't turn on the phone, cannot connect to ODIN because when I connect it PC, the DISK FORMAT messages keep popping up. seeking for an solution very bad. If anyone, know how please helppp, I will be very appreciated.
If the phone responds to a charging cable in the wall socket I don't believe it is bricked. And you said it does respond to your computer in some way. Have you tried getting it into download mode and flashing a stock rom? When I had a captivate I thought it was hard bricked but I got it into download mode with a usb jig (my particular captivate did not have 3 button combo to download mode) and used Odin to flash a stock rom and went from there.

My Galaxy S3 wont charge , turn on , Connect to Pc

Yesterday i rooted and tried to install a Rom and used Rom manager to go into recovery mode. I thought you had to do the down+home+power and now when I try to do anything it wont work power button 20 sec , power+home , up/down+power+home,nothing.When i tried plug it into the computer it makes that sound when something failed to connect to the pc. When i tried holding the power button i hear the sound of the device successfully connect to the pc but when i look theres no phone on the computer and when i let go of the power button it stops. Any help would be very much appreciated and i will never do anything to risk my device being broken again...
What did you install? Link the ROM or at least the name of the ROM.

Did you modify your build.prop?
Can you still access the download mode? If yes try to flash back a stock rom with odin.
Or remove the battery and try again to boot up in download mode.

Try a different usb slot sometimes a usb slot may malfunction I had that problem.
Also don't use a usb extender hub if you are it may screw with the voltage.
a new usb I'm sure you've heard that one but this has the least chance of working because you the s3 makes the noise which means the usb works
Try a new computer and check that you have Kies installed
Try to restart the laptop that also helps
Hope I helped you out

Unfortunately, I have this exact same problem. I'm really scared that I may have bricked my device...
The last time my phone was working, I simply updated my phone to CM10's latest update for the phone. Everything was working perfectly fine. All I did was download the latest rom from get.cm for my sgs3.
Then I read online that this new 4.1.2 rom came out. As a new member XDA won't allow me to post the link of the rom...but you can find it in the Original Development Thread of the T-Mobile SGS3. Slim-i9300-2.7.0-OFFICIAL is the name of the rom [I copied it directly].
After making a backup of my current rom, installing this rom and installing the new gapps, I rebooted the device and nothing has worked since... [this happened about 12 hours ago].
Now, when I take out the battery and plug the charger in, the notification light becomes solid red. But nothing works...I can't go into download mode, I can't go into recovery. I knew this immediately when the phone did not vibrate after me holding down the power button for a few minutes.
The red notification light only turns on when I plug in the phone when the battery is out. If I put the battery in, after a few moments it goes away. I honestly thought maybe the battery was just dead...but I left it plugged in all night and I still can't do anything with the phone.
Please, any help for me and whtnld would be much appreciated...
@OP
Did you mod the build.prop for any reason? (Google wallet maybe?)
If you did and then tried to update/install recovery through Rom Manager, it may have tried to install the wrong recovery on the wrong partition, resulting in a hard brick.

You flashed an intl rom. Hard bricked. Need JTAG repair or replace unit.
I was about to say, isn't the i9300 the intl version? the tgh-t999 is the TMOUS version.
You have to let go of the power button to get into recovery.

Easy Way to find out if it's hard bricked is to connect your phone to pc... If pc displays qhsusb - I forget what else then you are hard bricked and need to jtag fix it which should run you around 60 buxs. Sorry bud if that's the case but next time don't flash anything i9300 if you have a t999

Help I think im bricked

So I was using Mobile Odin because I was selling my device and the person didn't want AOKP on it so I went and did what i did on my wife's S3 and used mobile odine to flash stock JB TW (Latest update), for some reason when I did mine, after checking the MD5 the phone said it was all good then it was going to start and after it started the phone when to boot up (im guessing) and nothing happened after this, now my device wont go to DL mode or recovery when I try to use any of the finger combos to go into either of this modes.
As a matter of fact when I press the PWR the device does absolutely nothing..
Any helo is appreciated.
Thanks.

Doesn't sound good at all, might need a jtag. I used Mobile Odin just yesterday to go back to stock from AoCP. No problems whatsoever. I did flash stock 3e recovery before flashing the firmware, not sure if that helped.
When you plug it in does the charging indicator show up? (asking this to see if there are any signs of life, and also in the unlikely event that the problem is a dead battery...)

[Q] T-999 recently rooted, won't boot

Today I rooted my T-999, which had been running 4.3. Used saferoot to do so, then installed SuperSU, then flashed CWMR. All reported success, and there were no immediate indications of a problem.
After a couple hours, I manually commanded the phone to reboot. It shut down, but never rebooted. I let it go a few minutes, and then tried to boot it with the power button. No luck.
I've since played around with removing the battery, plugging it in without the battery, and a couple other combinations. In all cases, the phone won't boot. No light, no recovery/bootloader, nothing at all.
Any new ideas about how to restart, what order to remove the battery, plug in, etc. that might help? THANK YOU.
After some searching, I have not been able to find a situation quite like mine. I'm sure I've just missed it -- if the new post annoys you, sorry. I need help.
