Mercedes Benz owners: do you have Bluetooth connectivity issues? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

When I connect my phone to my MB GL350 via Bluetooth, the phone connects and disconnects about 5 times before the connection stays. This happens with both mine and my wife's GS3's and only in the MB, not the Audi. I did a search and found others complaining of GS3 connectivity issues but nothing like I'm experiencing. I am trying to figure out if this is a weird anomaly between MB and Samsung or if there is an issue with the car or phones. I'm hoping to get ahold of a family members iPhone to see if it has the same issues but for now I want to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

Spectacular. But seeing as I don't own a Bentley, I don't much care. Hence the reason the thread is addressed to MB drivers.

I'd suggest to just root your MB and then edit the build.prop to connect BT faster.

Right on. I did a search of MB bluetooth connectivity issues and most of the threads that come up pertain to either the SGS3 or SGN2 so it seems its not an issue with the car which was my biggest concern. It's weird, we have an Audi A6 as well and it connects very quickly without ever a hiccup. So it goes...

I wish I could. I've looked into hacking it to do other things and there just isn't a lot of literature on doing so. Even if there was, not sure I would go down that road. Hacking $500 phones is way different than hacking $3k computers in $80k cars!

If you've got the command unit, with the bluetooth adapter make sure you have the 3rd generation adapter. My system is a bit different, I've got an eclass, but we don't have the phone system. I've balked at the money to install the equipment to make it work. Just isn't worth it to us.
If your system is the one I think it is, then both the 2nd generation and the 3rd generation adapters should be compatible, however, I've read that the 3rd generation works better and is more reliable with the latest smartphones. Having not had the opportunity to try, all I can do is guess.
Good luck.

Thanks. It's got phone capabilities built in and I purchased the Media Interface Plus for bluetooth audio streaming. I noticed that if bluetooth is on prior to turning on the car, there is no issue connecting. I'll just do it in this order from here on out. Like I said previously, my biggest concern was that there was something wrong with the bluetooth receiver in the COMAND unit but this seems to be highly unlikely.

How about if you want tethering, you pay for it and do it legally. Sprint will be seriously cracking down on unauthorized tethering with the new Network Vision network controls.

I don't use my data that much, maybe about 2GB a month, but I still hate the fact that every company want to charge for tier pricing. But the idea of the company able to charge for the service it doesn't do anything is insane. Sure if you want to let the company do so then go ahead, but then if you can do it yourself, then it become self service and you shouldn't have to pay. This is like they should be able to charge extra a month if you let you friend borrow your phone to make a call or to use 3rd party headset. Majority of people don't actually share the bandwidth with other people but rather to use the data of themself on another device.

Airaave 2.5

Does anyone have the airave 2.5 working? I tried a lot of tips on other forums without success. My old samsung airave worked great till it malfunctioned.

i could never get mine to work...got tired and sent it back
Did you call them to boost the signal?? I had to do that when i first installed it..
My old samsung airave no problems till it stop working all red lights. It was recently replaced with the new model. Unable to make or receive calls while in range. Did plenty of online research. Going to replace my cable modem tomorrow maybe that will work.
I ran test that show less than 80% quality of service. Everything else was good. My ISP couldn't find any problems.

Thats a new one on me...
after fighting with sprint and my isp for months, I figured out that my airave's mac id was not programmed into sprints system at all. Finally I got to talk to a network technician within the airave server room. Within 1 hour he got it working. level 1 csr's will almost never setup a trouble ticket, but after fighting with them on multiple occasions, they finally did. If your problem is the mobile light blinking constantly, then this will fix the issue. Good luck getting them to start a trouble ticket.

when I first bought my gs3, I had a similar issue, I called sprint, they changed my MIN#, never had an issue ever since. They told me MIN# has to be changed when using Airave. Of course, not all level 1 csr's even know what your talking about, much less why it needs to be changed.
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3
I have the 2.5 and love it. Honestly it's the best one I've ever had, and I've had the first gen and 2 2.0's (both 2.0 were crap). You need to get in touch with their airave service techs to get things straightened out as noted above, but they've been able to solve any issues I've ever had. They even have a separate group email address which will get them to respond literally within minutes unless they're currently swamped. I sent them an email to call me about an issue and within 5 minutes they called me. I'll see if I can find the email addy and I'll post it up if I can.
I will try that. We did the mac id when I connected the airave.
It works for a little bit then I get the unable message.

sounds like its not correctly provisioning itself. Doesn't sound like a mac id issue, mine wouldn't work at all. Did you open any ports on your router? Router could be blocking some of the ports required for the airave to communicate with Sprint's servers, or some isps block VOIP ports in an effort to force you to buy their phone service.
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3
I have an old dlink router 615. It worked fine with my original Samsung airave. I am testing again. I exchanged the cable modem for a newer one. This modem is definitely faster but same quality of service score. According to the 8x8 voip test I can have more than 15 voip connections.
Thinking of getting a new router.

I try to integrate my phone into my life as much as possible. Calendars, alarm clock, email, bill paying, password keeper, cloud storage, shopping, etc. I agree - why spend all the money on a smartphone and not use it to its fullest potential. Everything you listed seems like what I do with mine. To further see the fullest potential of the phone, I recently rooted it and have flashed 2 - 3 ROMs over the past few weeks. I am really enjoying it. I have never had a rooted phone before, let alone done any rooting myself. This is a first for me. :good:
I recently bought a nice denon audio receiver. (Avr 1713) it has a network connection, and I can control it via Wi-Fi anywhere in the house. I can even stream Pandora and have full control through my phone. Pretty sweet.

The receiver is amazing though. Comes with a program called audyssey that uses a mic and several positions to automatically setup each speaker based on your room. The android app (AVR-remote) is free and gives you complete control over the entire system (ie bass, treble, speaker output, sub, etc) I happened to find all these parts for a grand total of $520. Should of retailed for $850. I already have a sweet sub, so didn't have to buy one.

Personally I like having a second phone to quickly and easily show off something cool on the new phone via video. I had a d2g that had a bad esn (I thought I could use it in Europe, but was locked out there too) and I used it a lot for that.
Also I use it when going abroad, as it will work in Europe and the states.
Also, I love using my old phones as alarm clocks. You'd be amazed how many days an old BB Curve will last with all the radios turned off. I'm guessing a Dinc2 would be good that way too.

I know GPS will work without data, but if you need to pull up directions for navigation, you need to be on WiFi to download the coordinates. After that if you don't make it re-route it will work. As for the 2nd question.....idk

really on all these ideas. I still have my Eris (though the trackball still scrolls left) as an emergency backup, mp3/Pandora player for in-house and garage (anywhere WiFi reaches), and white noise machine for sleeping baby.
Sometimes wish it didn't have that trackball issue so I could use it more efficiantly, so a fully operational DInc2 laying around would be an awesome thing to have.
What did you end up getting?
Thanks for the advice. I also like the idea of an experimental unit, now that I do not rely on the device daily, I can check out the jellybean rom and try out google now

really on all these ideas.

I remember I used to get the eris trackball to start working by putting a piece of clean white paper on a table and rolling the trackball over it in a rolling motion. Always did the trick

Yea, I used up all the paper in the house. It only lasts for a short while now, but it does work for a little (usually). I even replaced the trackball with a blackberry one. I was thinking about trying just caking the area around the trackball/circuit board with JB weld to prevent flex which I think is causing the intermittent contact issue caused by the location of the charging port in relation to the trackball.
Ah well, either way it is extra and it wont be the end of the workl if I destroy it!
Yay for extras!

htc/Verizon asks that you place your inc2 on end of barrel of a 12 gauge, insert 3in slug, make it rain incredible flakes. now your inc2 has been officially updated by Verizon
Like someone else mentioned, the phone could be used as a VOIP home phone. All it requires is a Google Voice account and an app called GrooveIP (there's a free version, but the $5 full-featured version is definitely worth the money in my opinion). I also take it with me when I travel, since most airports and lots of hotels offer free WiFi, which allows me to make as many phone calls as I like without running up my minutes. I've been using my Inc2 for this purpose for awhile now, and it's very nice to have. I keep the phone in a dock and also use it for streaming music when I'm home as well as for my alarm clock. Just because the phone isn't activated on a wireless plan shouldn't mean that it can't serve a purpose.
Only other piece of advice; I would steer clear of ICS/JB based Roms if using it as a VOIP phone. I had nothing but trouble with the audio settings on GrooveIP. But the stock Rom, or any GB-based Rom should work fine. I use MROM (which is CM7 based) and it works exactly as expected.

**Ultimate GS3 sudden death thread** (Tmo version)

Hi guys, recently lots of S3 owners encouter this scary issue that their S3's motherboards just failed randomly and the phones are dead. Here is the link to the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993044
However, after reading pages, I noticed most cases are in the UK, some in other europe countries, some in asia (india, south east asia). Not sure the US version (and Tmo version specificly) is suffering from this, so I made this thread to gather information about this. I know I am paranoid, but I was hoping my S3 would last at least 2 years til my next upgrade. And now Im living in fear after knowing that thread. My S3 (manufacture date is 06/27/12) is still performing very fine with zero issue since august except the SD card being removed unexpectedly 2 times by the phone itself.
(btw, you can check your manufature date by dial this code: *#12580*369# )
Edit: seems like only international version suffers from this issue.

Well that's what Odin is for. If you Odin to stock it doesn't take away your warranty.

Warranty or not. Motherboards shouldn't fail on its own.its a recall. manufacturer should be held responsible without warranty.

Exactly. These phones are too damn expensive for them to keep sticking us consumers on the crap end of the stick when they screw up.

as much as i hate to say this but if this does happen to mine, this will be the last time I buy from Samsung and might jump ship to Apple where I can take a phone in a get it fixed in time.
Im pretty happy with Samsung, I deal with warranty on a day to day basis in another way but there is an expected amount of devices that go out that a company knows is going to fail at some point and also rely on returns for warranted devices to see what went wrong in production in order to correct it.
The problem is you have "X" amount of people on the forum which is big in consideration to a regular site and "Y" with the same problem and people group in and make the issue bigger than it is. Any company that posts a recall is at the point that OVER 42% of the product with the same failure over the release.
With that said I haven't had one problem with mine that others have reported and after being let down by HTC time and time again I most definitely will buy another Samsung device, so far it's been the best I've had out of the collection of smartphones I have.

You dont have to go to the store, call T-Mobile and they will send you one with an RMA, as soon as you get it put the old one in the box and send it out. All they do is check for water damage and put it up for refurbish they don't waste time putting it through testing they test the devices that may have account info on it if you can't power it up to format it before sending it back. They ask you that on the phone.

So does this mean that none of the tmo peeps have had no issues with their devices dying? I only ask because, I just got my galaxy last Wednesday. Had a couple quirks, but nothing's dead yet. Had a little issue with my music and swipe. When I would get my notifications tones say from email I would be listening to music, the sound would nearly drown out and stay that way till I paused my music and started again all was fine. I've been getting random screen flashes near the bottom of the screen, like a ton of lines like a glitch. Anyone else having this issue as well? Feel free to add anything else if you like.

Sounds to me like you might have activated something in developers options, go in settings and see if you selected anything that would flash the screen if long processes are in use.

Nothing in dev out of the usual, only thing being ticked is the usb debugging, and turned up the animation scales, transitions etc to .05, animations were at 1, but I was using swype, only happens when using that. Any better keyboards I can download on the market better than the Samsung or swype?

Did you enable any traces? That would show depending on what you have checked. I was gonna try enabling a few to see what it does but it's not like it would ruin anything. I'll report back though to see if I can recreate it.
Edit nope that did nothing, hope you figure it out, I never had that happen before.
