Hi, Im thinking of buying a gal.... but i was wondering some stuff,
1 : Is the phone good? Does it lagg and stuff like that.
2 : Is there many custom mods?
3 : What are the Good sides and the bad
Thanks in advance
Sry for my bad english, My grammer sucks
It's good, like it better than my old Galaxy S2.
Some mods, I haven't done much to mine though besides sticking in the sim card and exploring the phone.
Good sides - It's pretty awesome.
Bad - Screen rotation's slow on some apps..that's all I have so far.
Probably should have posted in the QA section.
Get it. I'm coming from iOS. Well, still use it. But this is the only phone I would use with android on a daily basis. Yeah there are cons, but overall no regret. Customizing, this is the phone u want. I predict this phone will only get better and be supported for a long time. Good luck with your decision

It's great.
But it is a dev. phone, expect some bugs.
Overall I love it, and I think it's relatively beg-free compared to my N1 when I got that one and my expectations.
It is a lovely phone.
Is the screen really bright and is the volume of notifications really loud ?
The build in speaker sucks pretty hard. You have to use apps like volume+ to be able to hear your notifications in a louder environment.
But the screen is simply awesome.
Oh, and ice cream sandwich too

1. yes, once in a while here and there
2. dont know, i dont use custom mod
3. 4g, ok screen. bad battery life.
I came from an HTC Evo 4G.
First thing that I STILL can't get over after a weeks time is the screen! it wows me every time I turn it on!
I have gotten the phone to lag at some points but that's when I'm pushing it pretty hard. That's not too bad because once I load an over clocked kernel on it the lag should be gone for good.
overall the phone is simply amazing! I think I'll still be very happy with my purchase even after all the big 2012 models are announced in the next couple of months.
can't go wrong with a nexus!
EDIT: the phone is very snappy! when I say I've gotten it to lag, I mean it's not that often and I'm really working the phone hard to see it stutter but that was normal use with my evo even with OC and CM7.1

Seriously? Ok screen? What screen is better? Btw, your Miley Cyrus profile pic makes me believe your sight ain't that great.
Signal issues and mtp are the only issues I'm having. The phone is smooth as butter. Best on the market right now.
Okay thanks going to buy it as soon as my local store got it in stock
Seems like for the T-mobile GS3 there are only a couple of roms, is there any real advantage to rooting at this point or would you wait?
So far, I kind of like the stock rom, s-voice, motion, etc... I wish the 4G were faster, but I don't know if a new rom or build.prop tweaks would really do anything for this.
There's really not many roms yet because the phone hasn't been out that long.
The goodies are yet to come, but at the moment the main reason to root is to remove all the bloat on the phone.
Personally I'm waiting till my return days expire before I start messing with my phone in case I have to return which I might because I really want the white.

I had a white iPhone 3gs before. I think the white is cool but kind of girly...
I really like my blue one, though I didn't have a choice on color because I bought mine from someone instead of extending my contract.

With gingerbread and especially ics stock roms have gotten a lot better. I still use root for other things like adfree, wifi tether, titanium backup and root explorer for changing some system stuff.

Adfree and wifi tether are the obvious reasons. I usually stick with stock builds with root for those two capabilities. I used to care a lot about being able to use root explorer to remove bloatware, but that was on the Evo OG that had tons of sprint bloant and tiny internal storage. I was constantly having to choose between having apps that didn't support app2sd or having enough free memory for the phone to perform. That whole issue is gone with this phone. I've barely touched the internal storage (though I have pretty much maxed my 16GB microsdhc card, I'm going to have to get a 64GB one to handle all the music/films/podcasts I keep on external storage.

I used to be flash maniac on my phones but with sg3 i left all behind. Even with all these bloats and sh!t i just do not feel the need to root and flash. God bless samsung! I was lost but now i am found.

How do I remove the bloatware? I just rooted this past weekend.
The three main reasons I have rooted my devices are rather simple:
Titanium Backup (Being able to backup ANYTHING is a must and should have been standard imo).
WiFi Tether - Stupid that carriers offer unlimited data (Well sprint does) or even limited, yet then even further tell you HOW you can access that data... Sure it can be abused, but there's no reason they should limit it if you've already paid for set megs/month..
Lastly.. Root Explorer..
I use it mostly so i can add ringtones and images directly to the phones standard media folder, in case I swap out SD cards or such.. This isn't so much a big deal anymore with internal memory being standard.. but coming from an OG Evo it was a necessity. With my new S3.. not so much here
I just got the S3 today I am going to use my skyrocket fulltime still because cm9 kicks major ass and make my skyrocket tick at 1.8Ghz but this S3 is beastly with the 2GB ram I fly through everything but I am going to root it after th 14 days and remove all of the crap I dont want but I get why some people dont really wanna flash anything yet ICS is very fluid on the device and the hardware is off the charts especially with Jelly bean out once it gets ported that new OS will use more resources its natural because as it gets better it has to use more space and having 2GB Ram will help......ofcourse if CM9 or CM 10 or whatever its called is released it will be on my phone a soon as its available......

I use Titanium Backup for that. They have a free and paid version.
The free one will allow you to freeze- meaning they will disappear, but not really un install from the device. You won't see them in the app drawer or delete them if you wish.
If you're a flash addict then the paid version is the way to go because it helps you restore all your apps that are backed up with a push of a button after every rom you flash.
Saves a lot of time rather than restoring them one by one, especially if you have a bunch.

honestly, i might not flash a custom ROM on the S3. i used to flash ROMs like crazy on my Skyrocket, but i am actually very pleased with the S3. i am waiting for someone to make a ROM without all the AT&T crap, keep S Voice, and get a little better battery life though lol.
I'd say there are advantages such as root apps and debloated ROMs...which are better for battery and speed.

That is very true, but this phone out the box is pretty good on both categories.
So to me, it's not that important right now.
Usually I root and flash something within the first few days, but I really don't have an urge to at the moment.
I'm happy with the phone right now as it stands. Even with all the bloat.

Exactly how I feal. Ive always rooted and romd pretty much right away for the speed, battery life, and features of custom roms.
Speed: seriously can you get any faster than instant and smooth as butter?
Battery Life: Im getting 4.5-5 hours of screen on time on each charge which is amazing compared to most phones so Im just now getting used to that lol. I know roms can even improve me on that but I dont need it right now.
Features: this phone stock is crammed with features.
I will be rooted before long for root apps and akop when it comes though
My other phone is an iPhone 4. And the battery on that phone is insane! And the gs3 is pretty darn good. I'm a heavy use phone guy, and i have only had to recharge this phone once during the day. Now at night (end of day) the battery is in the low teens but it's still on

On my first gs3 I rooted it and had major software problems. Not only did wallet not work, but it seem to brick my nfc and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to work. I got it replaced which is good but I don't want to risk it again. This phone is amazing out of the box. I think when asop becomes available ill probably give it another shot. I wanna see what LTE is like too when it comes to Dallas

Just to name a few off the top of my head... I know there is many more reasons.
Bloat free.
Smoother
No Carrier iq
Improved Battery life
1.89 oc
No adds (add free)
Free tethering

I just rooted mine...Sprint. I got it 5 hrs ago and I couldn't stand the bloatware staring me in my face.. I also hate ads, so adfree is next to get installed on my phone. Plus i like to control whats on my phone and how it acts. All n all, this phone is awesome, I see no need for a ROM at this time, and i don't think OC is in the cards because this thing is fast. I have all these paid apps that were on my epic 4g that require root to run. i paid for them, so i'm gonna use em.
So Ive had my t-mobile S3 for a few days now. Ive loved it so far, Ive only had it for a few days, so i have not rooted it yet or even looked at the dev section for custom roms. All my previous phones have been rooted and had custom roms, but have not had the chance or desire to do it/read up on it on my S3 yet...
Anyway, to my question. After I initially unlock the phone and am at the first home screen, when I go to swipe it either way to change screens, I have lag. After that initial swipe and lag I can swipe smoothly. Its just that first swipe that gives me lag. This is the most powerful device I've had, so I am surprised to see the lag. Im assuming its touchwiz and the phone probably takes a moment to ramp up the cpu? Im not against rooting and rom'ing it, just have not yet and wondering if others had this or noticed this issue while still completely stock? If so, are there any transitions or anything I can change, or do i just deal with it until I root it and throw on an awesome rom?
Thanks
It's just coming out of deep sleep and at q low CPU clock to save power. It's normal.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah you should relax while we all can admit TouchWiz Sucks its not that bad, Even having power saving on should not affect a little task like that. This phone is really fast stock so don't feel you need to root just because of that. Now if bloatware really bothers you, carrier IQ then you can go on and flash away.

Nothing is perfect...phones..electronics...cars..houses...you name it. Everyone expects everything to run smooth or they freak out. Its the nature of the beast...live with it...

My GS3 does it. My iPod touch 4th generation does it. My Galaxy Exhibit 4G did it.
Pretty normal stuff, though it tends to annoy me as well.

Normal. My does that aswell. On both touchwiz and nova launcher.

thanks everyone. Ive had android since the beginning (well almost, mt3g). So I'm used to the lag that android sometimes has. but to be honest, i was really surprised to see it on this phone. I thought it was powerful enough hardware wise and the software tweaks (project butter act) that I was just surprised to see the lag (i know touchwiz slows it down). I've noticed a little more here and there...
Any way, glad to know its normal for this phone being stock, I just did not expect it. Guess Ill have to root it and play around with some custom roms to get that smoothness Im looking for
Yea I notice the lag on start up to but after a couple of seconds its good.
You know it's weird, I used to have the same issue, so I know exactly what you're talking about. But I don't have it anymore for some reason and I'm not quite sure when it went away. I flashed a stock rooted Jelly Bean rom to get root, but that's the only thing I've done to it.
Once you get past the little bit of lag...she is butter smooth....

So I've had my S4 since the 30th, pre-ordered it on the 29th at 3:00AM.
After using it now for about 5 days, I am pretty disappointed in the software. Basically none of the "COOL" features it has works very well, especially the head scrolling. Terrible...
The smoothness on the phone is so utterly inconsistent it bothers me till no end. 60 percent of the time, operations are silky smooth, 40 percent there is a motherload of lag. Simply closing an app will cause the animation to "stutter" as it closes. Sometimes swiping between screens will cause the phone to stutter, opening the camera sometimes is instant, sometimes it take a couple seconds! WTF that drives me insane on a phone that pulls in 12,000+ quadrant scores and wipes the floor with pretty much everything in antutu.
I blame Samsung, their TW is definitely not ready for prime time when skinned on top of 4.2.2. Seemed like a rush job to get the phone shipped with 4.2.2 so they can get the upper hand on the HTC One.
TW works absolutely flawless on 4.1 for example on the Note 2 and GS3, there was hardly a hint of lag on those phones. So what do you guys think? TW not ready for 4.2.2 or is it because it's not optimized for the new Snapdragon processor?
i had a s3 and a s2 and a s1 and all these problems people complained about was stil there. I dont remember tw being that fluid on my s3 i remember i couldnt wait to root it to add cm on it. A article i read said it best "Android phones have a reputation for customizability. And to a certain extent, they almost require tinkering to optimize the experience. Theres always gonna be something we dont like about our phones thats why we love to tinker and change it!
wasnt really rushed, just touch wiz isnt meant for performance as much as gimmicky features, which all work just fine for me.
Though the debloated wicked rom is enough to keep me happy for now. as soon as paranoid android or P.A.C drops for our phone im on them in a heart beat. I just need per app dpi to be happy, with any phone
Wicked rom speeds the lag up a bit and im sure things will only get better..
21k antutu score stock, 25k after wicked... Im sure an Oc kernel will help too

no.
I really don't know yet. I sold my N4 for it, got it online last night it will be here in a week. Hopefully I don't regret it.

I actually think the software is rather well polished. The theme is still not my cup of tea, but whatever. Really the only few issues I have is with camera focus every once in a while and the little bit of stuttery animation which seems more like a governor/kernel issue than anything.
Phone is pretty awesome overall.

i sold my N4 for it as well; and also paid my ETF from ATT so i could move to tmobile.
haven't looked back since. :good:
(side note: ***k you ATT)
I think it's pretty well done, the fact is the motion and smart camera tricks are always a little bit of a crap shoot, and they're so situational I can't really justify leaving them on to myself. So I just turn them all off, other than that I don't mind TouchWiz, it's very bright and cartoony, but I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily.
i do not think so
they will test it almost for long times, and someother funcition will be release to us in next OTA maybe, just as the apple doing.

That does absolutely nothing.
"Calibrating the battery" not only is it useless its been debunked by Google

Any "battery calibration" methods or mods even apps are useless and do nothing at all.

Are you using the original cable?
I've read that some cables charge real slow for some reason while stock cable charges fast.

I agree with you about the stock cable as well.. Some cheaper after market ones don't play well with our phones. Also make sure you use the plug in charger and not a computer to charge your phone, it takes longer to charge via the usb port on your computer.

that happened to me but i learned that the transition effect from stock or a different custom Roms has effects on how long your phone goes back to normal as in charging fast or how it used to be
so wait and let the phone do its work am sure yu'll be fine after a while devices/machines needs break or need to adapt to a new different ROMS/FIRMWARE or like migrating from XP/VISTA to windows 7/8 yu just dont expect machines (windows, linux, MACs) and Devices(android, Windows Phone, Ubuntu, IOS, Mobile) to work flowless from an upgrade or a big change in OS
go out, get some from a party ........ todays world with computers/smartphone cant let you take a breathe always on the screen

Wiping the stats and the battery.bin files is as useless as using a task manager.
System is going to write it again as soon as the system boots lol.
Yeah break in the ROM. Charging might speed up. In know in TouchWiz ROMs it takes forever but on AOSP it shouldn't. Battery also improves after a few cycles.
