Hi,
I am new to GSM technology moving over from CDMA technology (US Cellular) and have a question about unlocking the phone so you can use it on another network. Once I put in a foreign SIM card and unlock it with the NCK code does the phone stay unlocked or every time you put in a different SIM card you have to reenter the code?
stays unlocked, you just need to do it once.

Unlocking a phone with a code is a permanent change however there are instances where we've seen some models reactivate the lock when someone has changed the software on their phone. Usually this doesn't happen and it is rate that it does but if so, then the same codes can be used to remove the lock again.
The only time the unlock codes won't work on a phone they have in the past is when the IMEI of the phone has been changed. This only happens if a phone is repaired and an engineer changes the IMEI - it won't happen randomly.

I bought a network SIM unlock code. I entered it when asked and it worked at first and allowed me to make 1 call. After that it does not connect to my network provider or make calls any more.
I've tried a few things - checking GSM settings etc - to Auto and not. Many things.
But no luck.
I'm wondering could I have got a faulty unlock code or is it the device that is faulty.
I put the SIM in another phone and it is OK. I put other SIMs in this, including a different network and no go.
It was locked to T-Mobile, HTC HD2 WM6.5
Any help would be appreciated.
Turned out to be a faulty device

This is for ATT Galaxy Note II model SGH-I317:
This little note is to provide clarity and ease to find out what carrier your SIM card is receiving after you have unlocked it.
1)You have removed your "normal" carrier SIM card
2) You have put in a "test" SIM from another compatible carrier
3) You entered an unlock code, with the "test" SIM in your phone.
4) Nobody can easily tell you how to check if you unlocked the phone properly or you were ripped off by the "unlock service"
THIS HOW YOU CHECK:
5)Make sure the "test" SIM card (the "test" is not your normal carrier and just used to ask for an unlock code) is still in the phone.
6)GOTO System Settings
7)GOTO More Settings
8)GOTO Mobile Networks
9)GOTO Access Point Names
10)OBSERVE...the current carrier. (IT SHOULD BE THE CARRIER OF THE "test" SIM, not your "normal" carrier.)
FINISHED.

......really?
Nobody can tell if sim is working? Lol.
If you have data..then unlocked worked. Pretty easy to tell.

What happens,if your "test" SIM is deactivated & you need to verify the carrier?
Thank you for the insight:
I posted, for those of us who have secured a legally deactivated "test" SIM card to unlock the phone, with no way to verify using an activated SIM.
(Now that is a very smart move on my part...obtaining a deactivated SIM to use in unlocking the phone instead of an active one)
Nobody wants to get off a plane and insert a "local" foreign pre-paid SIM and find out they did not unlock it properly.
I unlocked my SGH-I317 by obtaining an unlock code from ATT using a deactivated T-Mobile "test" SIM.
I am sharing this information for those of us, who are not developers.
REMEMBER: Fill another person's bucket, never knock it over. If you knock it over, karma catches up.
Another way I've used is to drop by another carrier's kiosk when they're not too busy and ask to borrow one of their demo SIMs for a quick test. (e.g. you've just done the AWS mod and want to know if it worked.)
I ordered an unlock code from imei-unlocker a couple weeks back and when I got the code, i entered it and it supposedly sim unlocked my ATT G3. I tried to put my t-mobile sim into my device and the phone acted as if it didn't have a sim in it. I factory resetted it and the same thing happens, "No Sim" error. I borrowed my uncle's AT&T sim into the G3 and it still didn't work, I even tried factory resetting it again. I don't have any options to add in unlock codes any more because when I dial the number to get to the screen where I enter the unlock code, every option is greyed out. I don't know what's happening and I was planning on re-selling it but now, I don't even know if the phone will take a SIM anymore. Any idea guys?
Anyone got any ideas =/
"SIM Suddenly *Perso* Locked?!" <-- (Thread Tittle Typo)
Hello XDA. Mayhaps you can help me solve a problem that came out of literally nowhere.
I'm using an AT&T Galaxy Note II on Metro PCS with Cyanogenmod 13, and I have been using this setup for a few months now with almost no issues. Now don't get me wrong, I've had some hiccups here and there. Random reboots, camera issues, once I even lost ALL of my personal data for seemingly no reason at all.
Right this very moment, however, my phone just randomly rebooted, which I'm used to, but upon unlocking my phone after startup all I get is "Unlock Sim Network Pin" - "Sim Perso Locked Emergency Calls Only"
I have NO idea what is going on or why this happened in the first place. I don't have the slightest clue on how to fix this at this hour other than paying for an unlock code from a third party, but there's no way I'm doing that! Please help.
TL;DR
My phone rebooted and now the SIM is locked for no reason. Pls hlp
How did you sim unlock the phone in order to use Metro PCS? You mean the sim is locked in that the sim card is asking for a pin?

When I bought the phone off of a friend they asked at&t to unlock it and they obliged.
Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Every time I restart the phone it asks for a pin to unlock SIM.
I'll update with screenshots.
Once the phone is unlocked via code, it should be permanently network unlocked. Do you still have the unlock code?
If the sim is asking for a pin, sounds like a setting in the security may have been changed to prompt for a pin. Did you try entering 1234 or 0000?
Same thing just happened to me, what was your solution? Phone worked fine yesterday, powered down from battery use, when I plugged it back /charged it, it was doing the perso lock thing.
I have Galaxy S20 that appears to be locked to Consumer Cellular (seems like under 6 months). I am trying to use this phone on Tmobile network. I paid for unlock code however, whenever I insert a Sim it recognizes there is a new Sim and reboots. No network unlock prompt after reboot! It will even show that there is a Tmobile Sim in the phone or if any other it will show Sim mm #2. If I try to make a call with my Tmobile Sim inserted I get a " call not sent message." How do I get to the network unlock screen so that I may enter the unlock code? How can I unlock this phone from Consumer Cellular network?
