Hey all. I have not been having much luck with the aforementioned zip. I was on a 4.2.2 rom, I wiped everything, restored a 4.1.2 backup, then I flashed the zip which is supposed to reverse what happens to the sd card when flashing a 4.2.2 rom. After following this process, when looking at my files using root explorer, my files are still all screwed up. I play a lot of games on my device and now I'm so hesitant to flash a 4.2.2 rom cuz I'm afraid I'll lose the game saves, or game data in general. I'm just wondering how many have used that zip to restore the sd card and have had perfect success. If many I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks.

I have had luck with the zip. . Only thing I need to move back is my obb data to my android/obb with games like dead trigger and modern combat zero hour... I have my game data backed up to my pc so I really don't worry about it

Under the Syndicate ROM 1.0.2 changelog it mentions it has added automatic backup/restore. What exactly is it backing up/restoring?
I lov this ROM but seems every 3 days it starts to FC where I need to flash again.
It backs up your apps and data then restores it after the flash

What.mystery said. It saves all your data/app and.puts it.on your SD card and then.flashes the.rom and restores it. You can look at the file on your SD card when.it boots up.

Make sure you are waiting for your phone to completely power off before removing the battery. With the no jounaling on EXT4 this will cause data corruption. It is most likely why you are getting the FC's

Actually both times I was playing games on my phone when the games errored out and fc. Then my email would fc directly after opening. When receiving a call I would get the framework fc. Games were asphalt and sniper. flashing again cleared those up. Hopefully it will happen less often

How do I use this backup... I was using ACS Rom, and I saw that there was a backup file. I reflashed EB13, tried out Viper, then I reflashed ACS. My apps were not restored. Is there something I am missing?
In order to use this feature you.don't wipe at all when you do to.flash the rom. Doesn't.matter if your coming from another rom.or not. Just select install from SD card and select acs rom. It will then.flash the.rom by first backing up your data to your SD card. Then it tunes your system and flashes the rom and then.it restores everything it placed on the sd card

No My Files App / Won't play MP3s or Ringtones
Hi I'm new to all of this, but since I rooted my Epic 4g and flashed the ACS ROM I notice that it didn't had a My Files App and with any other file manager my MP3s wont play it just says file type not found. Other than that the ROM is awesome, fast and efficient. Hope you can help me with that.
this feature backs up all apps and their settings correct? like even contacts app and settings?
Using TB.
For the life of me it won't work. I've read some posts here and there where people are reporting mixed results. Is there a method to this? Is this one of the kinks that needs to be worked out? Will I have to install all apps from scratch and lose my progress on Angry Birds?
Apps that install to the as card will fail, the rest will work fine

There's a few apps that won't restore at all (with leak FC07 and CM9 alpha at least from my experience). But a good majority can be, and for me, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio restored just fine with data.
Try my post on restoring apps from TB in this section, not sure if it helps with the ROM you are on....worked for me going from el29 to fc07.

When I try to restore apps, I get a progress bar in TB, but it's super slow. Eventually it says it finished but none of the apps have been restored. Ive tried just the app first without data and that doesn't work either.
I'll look for your TB thread Dante.
With CM9 I never had 100% success (I imagine it was something to do with mounting to /emmc), with the Samsung based ICS leaks unmounting external_sd has worked flawlessly every time.

do I unmount through recovery? What does unmounting the SD do that makes it work?
Unmount external sd, works every time for me.

No, just in ICS. Settings, Storage, Unmount (external) sd card, then load up TiBu.
Last time I burned through logcat there was a temp file the install process was trying to create but was unable to, causing it to fail. Details here. Not sure why it's failing as those files don't exist for me, maybe formatting the sdcard within ICS would fix it, I'm not sure.

Whats been working for me is RE-downloading all the apps from the market and the using TB to restore data. I don't mind having to download the apps all over again (although it is a PITA) as long as I have the data.

I was able to save and restore my progress in Angry birds and I was on GB 2.3.6 and I am on BLEND ICS ROM now.
I've never had luck with TB or with any app to restore missing data/apps. The only reliable method I've discovered is booting into recovery, going to advanced backup restore and nandroid just your data. Even worked restoring data from an el29 build to ics. Hope this helps someone!

So, I am slowly workign my way through NoSudo's post on how to get CWM installed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615881
Root no problem
Unlock No Problem
Recovery ?
There is a warning about renaming the /etc/install-recovery.sh file. before step 4 of ptesmoke's post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601663
I quess just for safety reasons, why am I renaming this file? Would I ever need to put it back? What does that file do? etc?
What do I do when I want to add crossix memory swap mod? It requires the use of a modified version of that file.
Do I just change the name of the file prior to flashing things through CWM?
What happens to the tablet if I am running the memory swap, and then disable the file like that so I can load a different rom? If I have like 10 GB of apps on the card at the time, it can't exactly dirty swap the memory back to the internal?
probably shoulda asked before I started, but hey better late then never right. At least I ain't bricked it yet
Any and all help is a appreciated.

what that file essentially did was revert the recovery to stock. and it was a script used by crossix for his sdcard swap mod i believe.
ive never had any issue with that script but ive never used the sdcard swap mod so thats probably why. so long as your bootloader is unlocked....even if your recovery gets overwritten just flash it again in fastboot. but if youve never used that mod id say your safe man.

Thanks man,
So basically the worst that can happen is that I accidentally overwrite CWM, and have to go back in and re-install it per your post.

you got it boss. what people have been messing up is relocking their bootloaders and panicking and somehow screwing their recovery image and all sorts of amazing jazz lol.
if cwm gets overwritten u know its that file...delete it. boot into fastboot and flash cwm again...easy peasy.
the biggest thing to remember is Keep your bootloader unlocked! the only way to lock it is to reflash a stock rom that "updates" the bootloader. which is why i told everyone from day one of the unlock DONT REFLASH STOCK...unless u know what your doing!

Seem simple enough, once you go custom stay there. No beer in the fridge tonight so I'll probably even remember that one.
Anyways, got it installed and running backups now. I just want to tryout flexreaper, and CM9. See what I like, and see if either fixes the crappy stack GPS lock performance. Once I pick I'll stay there for a long time. I suspect after I pick a rom that works for me I'll load up crossix mod for the extra space, I can really use it.
Thanks again for the help man.
Crap!
Ran into an issue. It errored out while backing up my data. I was able to just power down, and back up. When it came backup I noticed I had zero free space left internally so I know what the error was. I just can't for the life of me figure out how to change the backup location to the external card.

currently its a bug with ics and cwm..it cant backup properly to the external...and the other problem is it backs up your entire internal....so basically if you have 4gigs taken up...its gonna exceed the 8gig.
sorry i didnt mention this as its not a huge bug for me as i dont have barely any data on the internal.
best bet is to delete that massive backup...and move some stuff (music, movies etc) over to your external. and re run the nandroid.
not a big issue but obviously a pita...
i would recommend cm9 personally...it will eventually be updated very frequently...were waiting on acer source to be released. also ive had better gps performance on cm9.

So, let me think out loud here. The smart way to do this would be
1. Use Titanium backup to back up all of my apps, and data to the external SD
2. Delete apps, and data until I have enough room left on the internal SD.
3. Move everything off of the external SD onto my computer
4. Full nandroid backup onto internal SD using CWM.
5. Back that up onto the computer
6. Flush everything using CWM
7. Flash CM9 or flexreaper and see what I like
8. Do crossix mememory swap mod
9. Restore apps and data from Titanium Backups, or just reload from app store
10. Relax
Does that seem safe, and in the correct order?

like max payne that are 2gb and hell to download so i can factory reset then root unlock then when done place the apps back on with out redownloading and installing. also what are the chances i well wreck or brink my phone
the game data files are stored in /sdcard/data/com.rockstar.maxpayne or something like that, just backup those game files.
You can try Titanium Backup if your phone is rooted, it works really good.
You can find it in Play Store.

how do you delete stock Apps, I found the thread of safe to delete apps and I tried Root Uninstaller it says it uninstalls but then when I reboot the apps are still there.
amazon/nfl/play books
Get root explorer from the market. Use it to browse to /system/app directory, mount r/w (button in top right corner), find app, long press delete.
There are other root enabled explorers. Estrongs will allow root if you go to it's settings.
Also, before deleting, I would suggest just longpress and rename by adding .bak to the end of the name (amazon.apk.bak for example). That way it won't be recognized or installed, but if you find it breaks anything you can always rename to original. If it doesn't break anything you'll know it's safe to fully delete. A reboot must occur for changes to take effect.
Titanium backup can also be used for this, but I prefer doing it manually so I always know exactly what is happening.
