Okay so first off, let me just thank everyone who's willing to contribute to helping my issue ahead of time. I highly respect this community, and everything that everyone has done towards making android what it has become.
ANYWAY - I'm completely screwed, or so it seems. I cannot boot into anything, no ROM, no recovery. I've tried replacing the PC36IMG.zip on the root of my SD card. I've even downloaded the "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe", and tried to start over completely, but even that did not work.
Whenever I try to restart my phone, or enter recovery from the HBOOT menu, I get a constant boot loop of the EVO white screen. Over and over, that's all it does. On my HBOOT menu I am showing:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.02.000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.09.01

I don't know what other options I have in order to restore my phone. Everything was working fine. I was running MIUI 12.3, with the stable CFS kernel. I woke up this morning, phone worked normally, then decided to randomly reboot. After that, it was over. I couldn't reboot into recovery, or simply reboot the phone.
If anyone can help out, it's greatly appreciated.
I'm not much help for that, but try this file:http://db.tt/AQItwCr
It's clock work mod recovery. If you can boot into hboot, you can flash that. Although, I'm assuming your rooted because you flashed mui*. So its pointless if your not rooted. Let me know what happens.

Pretty fukkin weird. It shouldn't even boot up, it should just go into recovery.
What recovery were you running before?
Sent From My HTC Evo 4G Using Tapa Talk Pro!
Once you RUU back to stock, you should be able to reboot into the phone. Don't go into recovery because you don't have a recovery anymore. If the phone doesn't boot up into Sense, then the RUU you grabbed is corrupt and you need to re-download or grab from somewhere else. Your hboot is now showing S-ON because you basically unrooted your phone so there wouldn't be any recovery.

This is true. I didn't even think of that. You will need to reroot after that. Can somebody post a link for this guy? We can help each other out.

I just ran it again, and the install process completes. Everything seems to go smoothly. The phone reboots, and you see the HTC EVO 4G white screen, but then it just goes black, restarts, and repeats.
I'm still unsure as to why I can't seem to boot into anything. Don't know what caused this. I do a lot of reading in these forums, and I've never heard of anything like this. Did quite a bit of googling, trying to read up on others that might've 'bricked' their phone, etc.
Also, the RUU file that I used, I gained from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840843
Try running the RUU a second time. Same thing happened to me with one of my EVOs, and I had to run the RUU twice to get it to work.

Haha, I'm not sure actually. I'm on a friends plan.
But, there's gotta be a way to get past the problem I'm having, with THIS Evo.
Shouldn't be a need to order a new one.
Hopefully someone in these forums can figure out a solution.

You were using an AOSP ROM with the new hboot? Didn't you have to use the HTC kernel?

Yes, I was using MIUI 12.3, which is AOSP based. I don't think I had the new hboot until sometime after this problem started. One of the PC36IMG.zip's that I put on the root of my SD I believe was from somewhere in the new HBOOT Root thread on this forum, but I can't remember 100%.
Prior to that, I had the old HBOOT, I'm quite sure. I've never had a problem until. I've flashed plenty of ROMS, and recovery has always booted for me. MIUI wasn't giving me any issues, until earlier today. Randomly, POOF...it restarted...only, it boot looped. Didn't think it'd effect my recovery, though. I've had boot loop issues with other ROM's before, and have just booted into recovery, and solved the problem from there.
Who knows what happened to me earlier, or why, but it really is a pain. It's hard not having a phone. Especially when you've been blessed with an Evo!

I think you screwed yourself by updating hboot. Haus* is working on an easy 2.02 hboot root.

That's what it was, the 2.02 hboot is not compatible with older phones and vice versa. Is your NAND still unlocked? (shows S-OFF) If so you may be able to do something with it.

No, it's not unlocked. It' showing S-ON.
&& this problem occurred BEFORE I was even running the hboot 2.02 --
I don't remember exactly what I had before, I believe it was the .76 hboot.
Everything was working perfectly fine.
I had just installed MIUI 12.3 a day earlier. Used it fine. Had everything set up the way I liked it. Went to sleep, woke up, phone still worked fine. Then it randomly reboot, and this problem started there.
The hboot 2.2 was only applied, I believe, when I put a PC36IMG.zip on my SD card root, that I had read about in a reply from someone on the 2.02 hboot thread.
Now it seems that I have only further screwed myself, apparently? idk.
I've tried running the latest RUU stock, to restore my phone to normal. NO luck.
Tried running it twice in a row, as per advice of someone earlier -- still no luck.
Endless reboots, no matter what. Yet, I can still get into the hboot menu. that's about it.
There's BOUND to be a way to fix this...
I can load PC36IMG.zip's ....but nothing else.
is there something that someone can package for me to revert back?
I have no idea, hence the reason I'm here.
HELP!
[and big thanks, of course!!]
Same thing happened to me. Lost recovery, and couldn't boot into rom. Just rebooted on splash screen over and over. Couldn't pull a logcat. Tried flashing recovery through fastboot, through bootloader, flashed renamed roms, the pc36img that I originally used from toasts 2part, etc. Nothing failed or threw errors. Only change I noted was that it reverted my custom splash screen to stock. Last ditch effort I ran an RUU with the phone in bootloader, which took a few tries but successfully "updated." Still couldn't boot into the OS. RUU restored me from engineering s-off back to ship s-on and I replaced it via warranty, $35 new phone on the spot.
Good luck, hope you manage to find something that works for you. After fastboot flashing failed I jumped on here and google hoping to find a fix, and searched for a week to no avail.

Hmm. Any time I ever see anyone reporting what you're describing, I've never seen a solution. What I would try though, is to unroot it, by turning S back to On, and then running an RUU. See if it will run stable while on a stock ROM. If so, try rooting again. If it is still doing the same thing after running RUU, with S on, I would take it Sprint. The phone is still under warranty, and if it turns out to be hardware related, you should be able to have Sprint do something for you.
RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu
I also attatched the Unrevoked S on tool. Flash the Unrevoked S on tool in recovery. Confirm that S is on. (what bootloader are you on? If its the Eng .76 bootloader, you don't need the S on tool, in which case you'd just run the RUU). Once S is on, run the RUU, to flash you back to stock. You want to run the RUU that matches your bootloader version, software version, and radio versions the closest. That will take you back to stock, and then you can see how the phone performs.
And it kind of sounds like the phone may have had some issues before. It was obviously rooted, since it was already S off when you purchased it. Who knows what type of issues it had prior to you obtaining it..
Thanks so much!!!

I don't suspect that changing the kernel will have any affect on your situation. Sometimes a kernel can cause the phone to reboot, but your phone isn't just rebooting. I believe that the 5 vibrates, followed by a black screen and a blinking led, means that the phone is pushing itself into diagnositc mode, for whatever reason. I am not sure what causes this. The only way to get out is to pull the battery out, and i believe you need to eithe be sure you're usb cable is unplugged (or is it be sure that it's plugged in..... I don't recall) Then reboot. Sorry I don't remember the exact specifics, as I've never had to do it, but I've seen it mentioned around here. If you search xHausx's posts, I know he has given instructions on how to attempt recovering from that situation a few times, but I don't usually see it successful, and people end up attempting to run an RUU, if you can keep the phone on long enough. If you do resort to running the RUU, I'd try running it from fastboot mode, which you select from the bootloader.
thanks again

You said you can still get to the OS for a limited amount of time right? See if you can get to menu>settings>about phone>software information. Get all the info there, (PRI, Baseband/radio, Software version (3.70? 3.30?, etc) Just record everything on that page down. Then boot to your bootloader. What's the hboot version? (2.02, 2.10, .97, .93, .76, etc etc.) Report back with that info. Most likely though, you'll need to run the most recent one (first on the page in that thread I sent you, which is 3.70 software)

Yup. That's all. Your software and radios are the latest, but your hboot isn't. I would try the newest 3.70 RUU first. If that gives you any trouble, try the 3.30 RUU, or even 3.29. Its just because your hboot is older that I'm not a hundred percent sure.

Either one you want. They are two separate methods of running the RUU. If you download the actual RUU, it's a .exe that runs from your computer, while the phone is plugged in Via USB. You need HTC Sync installed to run the RUU.
PC36IMG, is a file that you put on your sd card, and then boot to your bootloader. If the PC36IMG is on the main directory of your sd card, and it's named exactly PC36IMG, then when you boot to the bootloader, it will prompt you to update after a few seconds. Just wait for it to ask, then select volume up to say yes. That will then run the 'ruu' from your phone. Either method will acheive the exact same results. Personally, I think it's easier to use the PC36IMG, but they are both easy to do.

No, just leave it as is, unzipped. Boot into the bootloader, let it scan, then apply the update and reboot, you'll be all set.

And just to be more clear, you only need to run the Unrevoked S on tool if you have any point used Unrevoked-Forever. If you are on the .76 Eng Bootloader, you don't need to run it, in which case you'd just skip right to running the RUU.
Edit: And as teh roxx said, leave the PC36IMG zipped, and on the main directory of your sd card. Named exactly PC36IMG.

well ok first thing i did was format my sd card so i wouldnt run into any problems with that....then i continued to placing the zip file of S-ON tool on to the root of the sdcard Flashed it with clockwork and after it did its handy work i rebooted on to Bootloader and confirmed S-On.....so then i place the PC136img on the root of my sd card and it scanned it and i fallowed what told of me to do....so as soon it was done it asked me to reboot!!so as i clicked up to say yes it rebooted...now here is there the fun begins...when i first rebooted it went into a boot loop of turning on to HTC EVO screen then turning off And HTC EVO screen over and over again so it was turning on and off by itself....so i decided to reflash PC136 IMG all over again cause i thought something went wrong....so it completed everything again i rebooted and this time it did an HTC EVO Screen on and off thing again .....but this time i decided to take out the battery leave it out for a little and put it back on.....and as i was putting it back on i turned it on and this screen with a phone laying down with arrows going in a circle kind of like a recycle came on and stayed on so i took of the battery...and reflashed PC136 IMG again....so then i rebooted again and The darn HTC EVO screen on and off again.....so this time i took out battery again and waited for like five minutes...put it back on and the PHONE LAYING DOWN WITH ARROWS AGAIN CAME ON and i let it sit for a while and phone came on....so i was like YEAHHHHH worked welll after fully charging phone and trying to Repeat the same process i would do to get the PHONE OFF WITH ORANGE LIGHTS FLASHING....well that did not happen.....butttttttt HERE is the new thing it does the same process i would do to make that happen i do it again .....and to my suprise phone still turns off but this time its not PHONE ORANGE LIGHTS.....ITS HTC EVO SCREEN BOOT LOOP.....so now what guys.....

When the phone coming on with the arrows comes on, you need to let that finish. That's a part of the process of running the ruu/PC36IMG. When it comes to that screen, let it sit there for a bit (could be a few minutes), and don't pull the battery unless you're positive that it's stuck there.
Also, which RUU are you trying? I forget which one you went with. Perhaps try a different one as well. You may be having trouble due to the wrong RUU. Did you try downloading a different one yet?
Also, remember that there was something wrong with you're phone to begin with. It is entirely possible that there is some sort of hardware problem with it, since it was giving you the black screen with the blinking led before. The important thing here is that you got S on. That way you can at least take it in to Sprint, and not have to worry. Just be sure that if you take it in, to take your SD card out before taking it in, so they don't see any root related stuff on the card.
UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS POST. I HAVE INCLUDED MUCH MORE DETAIL AS TO WHAT IS WRONG NOW. ANY HELP PLEASE?:
I am stuck in HBOOT currently, Ship s-off and of course my phone is rooted. What happened was my battery died sometime on the weekend and i tried turning it on to see the HBOOT screen. None of the buttons were responding when being pressed, not even the Vol. down + Power button was working... It randomly after a day decided to turn back on, then the next day i was at college and my battery went dead again and i'm now back at the HBOOT screen. I should have kept a check on it but i wasn't aware it would happen for a second time. Anyway...
I downloaded the PD98IMG.zip file and placed it on my goldcard (i'm on T-mobile) and attempted to re flash my device via the phone and left it for 6 hours or so whilst sleeping last night as it said it was parsing files. It sat on the same screen for the whole of the time. Tried flashing via my mac with instructions from a previous thread followed everything correct apart from putting into fastboot as i couldn't select it and thought it was worth a shot anyway Anyway, I came back with a message in terminal saying 'sending 'radio' (24960 KB)... FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))'... As you could see it said failed. quite fed up now after looking for solutions since monday and i was hoping someone could come up with a fix :/.
If anyone knows whats going on with my DHD let me know ASAP. I am 95% sure its not bricked as its charging and turning on to HBOOT.
THANKS!!!!!
have you pulled the battery? thats what I normally do
Have you switched it back on without the charger plugged in?
Well i eventually got it working some how just after i posted this, but now it has just gone off again! It seems to be every time my battery goes completely dead. I plug it in, turn it on and Hboot screen pops up and repeats the same process each time, i dont know how to stop it doing this and i generally don't know how to get it back on.
I tried the ideas suggested but i've tried these previously and tried them again but no luck... One thing now though, my volume down button doesn't respond. If there is no fix i guess i'll just have to watch my battery usage but if anyone can suggest anything i can do to get it straight back on that would be great
I actually really need my phone to work right now , it ain't happening though, its been on hboot all day once again, it happens when the battery runs out, i press the power button and doesn't even vibrate or anything of the sort, just sits there and then pops up with the green writing after like 5 seconds saying:
SD Checking...
No image
Loading... (PD98IMG)
No image or wrong image
It says something like that, its only very briefly though. If anyone knows what i mean.... my phones on t-mobile so i made a goldcard so i could flash some roms, would that have anything to do with it?
THANKS!
Hi,
What info do you see in bootloader.
SHIP S-ON/OFF or ENG S-OFF
And have you performed Radio S-OFF?

Yea i have ship s-off, which is shown. I can't press the volume buttons on the h-boot screen to scroll through menu either just to add... DO you actually have any clue what this may be?
Yeah, you've messed up your handset.
Letting your battery run completely flat will damage your battery. It shouldn't however harm your handset.
What I'd recommend doing, as you already have a goldcard, download the 1.32.405.6 PD98IMG.zip put that on your card and boot into bootloader. Follow the prompts and restore your handset.
Oh my battery is fine, i know for future reference to not let it run completely dry! will that mean i won't have the rom, which i previously flashed? Do i put the PD98IMG file on the goldcard or on my normal sd that i am currently using?
There is something wrong with your phone. When your battery dies your handset shouldn't lock you in HBOOT.
Put the PD98IMG.zip on your goldcard. You will lose everything that is not backed up.
Its your call, stay stuck in HBOOT or try to recovery it.
I'll give it a try and let you know the out come, thabks! By the way, after this wht should i do to get miui back up and running, the sme as what i previously did ?
I'll go for the recovery of course haha... Thanks anyway though, i'll give it a shot and see how it goes down . I'll let you know if i have any success!

Im guessing this isn't very common is it? nobody seems to know what to do
wow.. stuck in the same situation... ive rooted and unlocked my partners DHD from telus... just about a week ago, it just suddenly went to the white HBOOT screen. Since then, ive been able to somehow get into clockwork by pulling the battery out, plugging in the usb cable, then inserting the batter, it would somehow take me to the clockwork mods menu screen. I was using an outdated version tho. I would be able to reboot from that menu which would start regularly booting the phone. One interesting thing tho is that the volume - button stopped working around that time.... Ive been pulling my hair out trying to make a goldcard (did it once, but havent been able to do it since i started trying again) so i can reflash the stock telus ruu. For some reason, the goldcard program im using isnt finding the mm2... just the mm1 and mm0... any ideas why? im formating a 8gb class 4 micro sd card... fat32, ive tried 32 and 64kb sector sizes... any suggestions?

I´m in the same situation.I think the PD98IMG file don´t match with previously installed ROM (radio,hboot?)...I come from a MIUI ROM,android 2.3.4 version.
I´m proudly to inform you that I did it!
All the thing was (I think) the ROM manager who flashed a wrong recovery.
How I recovered it?
Without adb drivers,without goldcard,without downgrade.
Simply I downloaded a PD98IMG file,I unzipped it and I changed the recovery.img with a 3.0.2.6 recovery version.Ahh,I deleted the radio.img, too(I don´t know if matter or not). After this,I zipped the files again and I renamed the file to PD98IMG.Copy to sdcard, wait to process PD98IMG and finally the power and volume buttons revives!
Good bye!
I've been looking through threads for hours and have tried a lot of what has been suggested. At first it just started randomly bootlooping ( white htc screen, restart). I then tried some guide on a thread that had me ADB then RUU, once that was all done It got to the white htc evo screen, turned black then vibrated 5 times and the green light started to flash. I can't get into the recovery menu, I click it and it just goes straight to white htc screen. I've flashed multiple PC36IMG's with different recoveries, with no luck.

OK......so basically you got no RECOVERY?....so when you boot into the BOOTLOADER to install the PC36IMG....does it recognize the image?.......and does it ask u to install and reboot?......we'll start there
What rom were you running? Some users have had a bootloop of death, no coming out of it, on CM7. I think it has happened on other AOSP roms as well, but you mainly see it on CM7 - probably because of the larger user base.
I have yet to see a solution for it, I think everyone else had to report it lost and pay the $100 deductible through insurance. The only hope is to keep running RUUs and hopefully one will stick.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Yeah I can see the image and to install and reboot.
And I was running CM7. FFFFFF I don't have insurance... Don't really want to take it to the sprint store with S-off.. So i guess ill keep trying to run RUU's... probably wont work though

If the pc RUU isn't working, trying using the same firmware RUU, but in PC36IMG file, which you flash in the bootloader.
@plainjane : For those that had the issue on CM7 [some users on MIUI], and they we chalked it up to bad nand blocks? But we still have no 'cure' for it.

Exactly! Do not worry about flashing a RUU at this time. Click on amon RA in my signature to download the PC36IMG.zip for amon RA and place it on the root of your SD card. Remove any other file with that name. Boot onto the bootloader (simultaneously press the DOWN volume & power button until your device starts) and then follow the prompts to install. Installation should take no more than 10 seconds. Afterwards, enter your new recovery, connect your device to your computer, select the USB-MS option and then copy the contents of your SD card onto a folder on your computer. After that, select the USB-MS option again to disengage. Now go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING it. When you're done, download a fresh copy of the rom you want to flash and flash it or copy a nandroid backup to your SD card and restore it. Be patient, either way, with the initial bootup.

Alright so I tried everything I could... So I took it into a sprint store. Told the guy this happened when doing the most recent update. Right there he went into the bootloader menu, I thought I was screwed... but he didn't say anything about the S-OFF. Eventually I came back and they ordered me another one.. probably a refurb. He said it was going to be free, and I don't have insurance. Guess I got lucky.
Thanks everyone for the input.
alright here is what happened. i was in twrp2 rc0.2 and was flashing a theme .zip made from the zipthemer app. i wiped cache and dalvik and flashed like normal and then after the flash it gave me an option to reboot system. i clicked it and it should have booted into my rom. instead it showed what would have been the white htc evo splash screen (mine is different) and then went to a black screen, vibrated 5 times, and i have the green notification light flashing.
i pulled the battery. booted into the bootloader and tried to go to recovery. ended up doing the same black screen vibrate etc. so i went back to bootloader to try to reflash the recovery since i still had the pc36img.zip on my sd. it scanned for the file looked like it read it but instead skipped past it and never gave me an option to flash the recovery. i tried multiple times, a series of battery pulls and no luck.
anyone got a clue as to whats up? im thinking i have a bad block and i heard of some jtag program or something to fix it but i have no idea what it is or how to use it.
p.s. yes i did google and i didn't find anything of much use... hell of a Christmas huh?
EDIT: odd. i have been rooted since january and now after this started it says im s-on. think i could use an ruu? the sd wont mount and im pretty sure they run from your sd so is there a way of using and ruu from a computer?

im downloading a 2.2 ruu. ill get back to you as to if it works or not
ok. i try to run the ruu and it gives me a main-version ERROR so i hit close and disconnect my phone. but then a window pops up saying update. so i plug in my phone again go to fastboot but then fastboot freezes and i cant navigate up and down with the volume keys. i then hit update but it just hangs at rebooting to bootloader and wont do anything...
If you can get back to Hboot, try to find a pc36img for the ruu you need and use the Ruu for the phone you have, not just any Ruu.

i tried the sdcard ruu for the latest gb update. it goes through. installs everything ok. but then when it reboots it goes back to the same 5 vibrates and black screen with flashing light.
after i did the sdcard ruu the windows ruu was able to go through unlike before. so i plugged in my phone it did its thing successfully. and again to no avail its still got the 5 vibrate etc.
and other options such as a block remap? i was running decks at the time which is based off cyanogen and i heard that cyanogen had been screwing blocks lately...
edit: i have no idea how a block remap would work... i just saw it in a thread that i believe you posted in like 3 days ago or so...
The 5 vibrates means it's in maintenance mode. (Diagnostics?)
I'm not sure what that means, exactly, but I don't think you're bricked, however, you DID say you were S-on, I believe, so if you are, try to re-root (look up root method for your hboot version) and them flash a recovery (Prefer Amon Ra) if it is successful.
If that works, wipe everything you can, except SD Card, wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache twice, then flash a ROM.

ok. i went to a friends house and just let my evo chill out on my desk and when i got back it booted right up since i got 1 successful ruu in. now that being said it only stays up for about 3 minutes and then shuts off and goes into the vibrate and blink stage so im gonna try a logcat and see if i can get anything useful out of it. there is some hope here boys
ok. i have tried ruu 2 more times. i tried to root a few times. all to no avail. nothing works. i still turns on for only 3 minutes at a time and then goes blank and vibrates.
my device is less than year old but i didn't get a warranty so does anyone know what the deal is with getting a replacement? my bootloader says s-on and its on a stock rom due to the 934759345734 ruu's i did so they won't know i was rooted. so is there like a 1 year manufacturer warranty for this without having to break out $100?
Best bet is to just call Sprint and find out. They may just offer you a trade in.
