[Q] KLP update - HTC One X

Hi, this is a question but because it isn't about the phone in the current form i thought it was better to put it here.
Rumours say the One X will not go past 4.2, but is it likely developers would be able to put it on? I know much older phones are able to get 4.1, 4.2 which only went up to 2 with manufacturers.
One X doesn't have S-OFF yet. And id expect you may need a later HBOOT for KLP? If it isn't released on the One X you wouldn't get that HBOOT. But for a developer to develop a later HBOOT it would need S-OFF right? If not then it is likely it will get i assume

It is 99% certain that devs will bring Android KLP for us.
It is possible to run JB4.2 on ICS hboot so I'd assume it's possible to run KLP on JB hboot as well.

Cheers for the reply Sounds like good news. Hope we get a sense version for KLP too.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the AOSP/CM/PA/AOKP KLP or Sense KLP, but either way, don't expect the One X to die soon take my old phone, the Xperia X8 for example. With limited source and limited devs, it managed to survive from Android 1.6 till Android 4.1.2 that's a device with a single core Qualcomm MSM7227 SoC with only 256 MB of RAM. I doubt the One X will die at 4.2.2, even if we don't receive it OFFICIALLY

i heard that the next update will be 4.3 and will be jellybean again

I meant Sense as i feel personally it has more features than ASOP/AKOP. And 4.3 hmmm. Been 4 for a while now, a 5 would be nice. Or if 4.3 had a few significant features. 4.2 wasn't very significant over 4.1 in all honesty.

I don't want it to die soon! I plan to keep my 11 month old one X for at least an year and a half more. Won't get a new phone before that. And it would kill me not to have the latest and the greatest on my beast.

Really? I'd like to know how, every single 4.2 rom requires JB HBOOT, and I'm stuck with ICS HBOOT (1.12).

Yes. Back in the day when JB sources were unreleased, every aosp-based ROM (even 4.2.x ones) ran kernels based on HTC's ICS kernel source.
---> ICS kernels work fine on ICS hboot
All you have to do is find an old jb4.2 ROM which contains ICS based kernel or kindly ask a ROM dev to build one for you.

But would that work? Could I run a newer JB4.2 rom with an older ICS kernel?

Sure I've done it myself.
For example, you can download cm10.1 alpha 2 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
It's clearly stated that older hboot is supported.

Except they removed it from the hosting site
Thanks for the tip anyway.
Too bad I can't use newer versions and just over-ride the kernel.

I don't know if simply flashing a custom ICS kernel over a ROM would work... Please try.
Also, tbalden is a nice guy, I'm sure he'll reupload the a2 for you or even build it if you just ask politely.
Mattmanwrx is using the old kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149747
Also any 4.1.2 aosp ROM should do the trick for example CM10, IceColdJelly 4.1.2, etc.

I was going to, but I'm too afraid to mess something up.

Wow, not sure how I didn't know about this. Gonna use this instead of the current (out of date) CM10. Thanks

[q] android 2.3 and sens desire hd

hi!!!!
i just wondering if someone could make a rom on the android gingerbread 2.3 with the desire hd sens ui, could be great!!!
maybe "RC TEAM" or "NEOPHYTE"
Not possible...
Sent from humanity's last hope.
why?? if htc make an update to the HTC DESIRE HD with 2.3 android, will they not keep their new sens ui ?
You answer your one question. The only one that can make a 2.3 rom with sense is HTC. As long as there is no leaked or released rom from HTC it's not gone happen.

I disagree, this is a developers forum. It's only a matter of time before before we will see a release
simonthor was just being sarcastic, because these question get asked a lot of times...
Sense isn't written to go with 2.3 so it will not appear until HTC have re-written Sense to work with Android 2.3
Simple as that

unlike AOSP, htc sense is CLOSED source.. they are only required to release their kernel source
so if there was someone gutsy enough to port it... they would have to reverse engineer the drivers from scratch

Not necessarily - We had Froyo with Sense before HTC released their kernel sources, and official Froyo RUU's with Sense.

If HTC make a official rom, htc sense will be included, if not, never
Dev make rom with AOSP (Android Open Source Project), not with Sense
Sorry for my poor English, but I hope you understand ...
Edit : there is a lot of ROM in 2.3 just read, only one thing doesn't work ATM, this is the Camera.

I sort of understand.
I understand Sense isnt included and yes, that makes sense (no pun intended) as it is HTC's baby.
Then my question would be better suited as:
Are there stock 2.3 Android ROMs? Most ROMs I see in the developers section have stupid modifications and addons that I can put in myself. I want something stock and then Ill add the neccessary addons/themes if I want.
Look at Oxygen, it's built from source and is pretty much stock 2.3

if u want stock don't install oxygen
try this is the closest to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878901&highlight=amethyst
I would wait a while yet I have tried Oxygen and although it works it not yet a viable replacement for a good Froyo ROM. I guess that as the maonth progresses things will change and Gingerbread will be good enough for every day use but it's just my opinion that it still has a way to go.
Thanks for all the replies Its a shame Sense isnt open source but there has to be a sales pitch somewhere.
July is being said for a update to 2.3 so...

[Q] AOSP Icecream Sandwich possible?

Can anyone port ICS to our defy from aosp??
Of course we can, and of course it will be ported...if you people read a bit before posting you would learn that the next version of CyanogenMod with ICS will be CM9. The SDK was just released yesterday so leave them time to work on it . Plus, with our bootloader locked, Quarkx will probably have to make a version of CM9 with the Defy+'s Gingerbread Kernel (our actual one being the Froyo kernel, but i guess it would be too old for an ICS port)

I thought that CM8 will come with ICS. Where I can find this information on cyanogenmod site?

Ofcourse not!! As there will be no no SDK port of ICS on CM (source : CM team). We'll only get a port when the official ICS source is out.

And right you are.
CM8 as intended for the honeycomb version but its source never released. Thus CM8 wont be there. Hope the same wont happen with ICS. According to an old statment by google ICS source should be released

[Q] What will happen when JB get's officially released?

I'm wondering about the hboot incompatibility thing. Will devs over at Original Android Development start making kernels and roms for the hboot that will come with JB?
Well JB has been officially released in some parts of the world with hboot 1.36 and 1.33 and there hasn't been any issues with custom ROMs yet. Can't say the same for kernels because source hasn't been released yet.
Yes, once the source is released for the JB kernel, the kernels will be updated too.
But will HTC ever release the kernel sources for JB ?

Yes, it usually takes them around 30 days, I beleive, so they should start appearing for the released Taiwanese (HTC__621) OTA pretty soon.

So with this the GPS Bug in Kernels can be fixed ?
Yep
So you are saying that most of the devs at Original Android Development (CM10, AOKP, AOSP) will start making kernels for newer hboots?

[Q] Hboot 1.36 and JB 4.1/4.2?

I have Hboot 1.36 and I want a stable ROM. Would you recommend a ROM with either 4.1 or 4.2? For instance, Cyanogenmod has two ROMs for either 4.1 or 4.2.
Obviously 4.1 is more stable because it has been around longer.
In fact the "official" CM10.1 for One X hasn't been released yet.

How does this work then? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784185. I guess they took the CM10.1 source code that is in development and built their own implementation?
That is correct, if the dev gets it to a stable state on the one x, the cm team may make it the official build for this device
