AOSP question? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I keep switching between Twiz and AOSP because of two big problems I'm having with AOSP 3.4.x based ROMs.
1. Call quality is poor often.
2. Most if not all custom kernels are causing SODs.
3. AOSP Messaging client doesn't send MMS through WiFi. I have to shut off WiFi and leave the toggle for data on. (Is this normal?)
I have clean wiped (wiped cache, dalvik, system, etc) before each of my installs of AOSP based ROMs.
Additional information : I'm using TWRP 2.5.0.0 and the latest modem. I'm not undervolting when the crashes occur or when poor call quality happens.
Thanks for your time and please let me know of theres other information I can give to assist you in assisting me.

Someome who can compile a rom and such always baffles me when they have questions lol, if you'd like I have LiquidSmooth rc2 with my headphone fix (headphones were broken cause of the usr/keylayout and I stumbled across and fixed it, so that you can control calls and changing music tracks and such) that was the only bug I saw with rc2 so its my go to stable AOSP rom. It is a 3.0 kernel and I have no complaints from people on call quality. If you would like I can dig up the link for you.

Please do. And lol, yeah I can be quite a noob sometimes. Compiling a ROM on Linux is easy though, it doesn't require any particular skills other than reading and following directions. Until you run into a stupid error, than you spend about 5 hours on that one error alone.

Isn't this one of the problems many people were having? They fixed a lot of bugs in the recent nightlies.
Try flashing the most up to date kernel you can (3.4.50 was in the dev section last I looked).
Otherwise maybe try the latest nightly build. Nandroid backup if you do so you can easily revert.

It fix the problem on my phone
Tried flashing the various basebands
I have tried flashing the three different basebands for the sch-i535 and the problem with the instagram video still exists. screen looks doubled, then green and pinkish. Running the latest ayysir 6-27-2013 build of paranoid android 3. Hope this is resolved soon. Will now test various ROMs
I have the same issue too. I've been searching on Google to see if any one had the similar problem and I landed on this thread. I finally decided to register (been lurking for a while) to post this.
My Instagram would only allow me to record up to 2 segments every time without crashing. When recording the third and releasing the record button, it would either:
1) Have that pink and green color and become doubled
or
2) Just crash and restart my whole device.
I've tried it on CM10.1-RC5, CM10.1-RC4 and Nightly build 6/27 using a GS3 SGH-I747.

Any word on this at all? This is a feature I would really like to use, but I'm getting having the same issues mentioned above. Booo. CM 10.1.0
Still no fix on this? There has to be someway to fix it....
bump
Has anybody submitted the issue to CM and Instagram yet? I only ask because no one seems to have mentioned doing so and it would be the best way to get something going on this.
I don't use either one but I would think the instagram folks might at least have a little insight for you.

Gonna try that when I get home. Also PA made it to this device. Also the Jedi mind trick Roms. So many options. Wow head's spinning.
Leaning towards CM10.1 though.
No signal, can't play video
I was using CM10.0. Updated CM10.1 with corresponding gapp.
-Can't register on cellular network anymore. Can't set AWS frequency in the factory testing mode.
-All of my Video apps start legging, play videos for a little while and quit after about a minute, say video format not supported. Even though the video is mp4 format and it was playing it before quitting.
How should fix it? Flash kernel? Which kernel should I use?

Thanks that did the trick. I was going mad at why the LED notifications stopped working.
Also still on the non-touch recovery, 5.0.26 the one that needs the Darkmod scripts to wipe cache and do full installs.
Also had to turn sensor on/off before it actually worked. Read that from another post from someone that helped me.
Thanks again dude.

Just went back to cm 10.0 and it's all working. Something in the newer versions that aren't "meant" for our phone is breaking BT.
Edit: CM 10.0 works better meaning I can actually turn it on but need to restart once turned off to turn it back on. It's hit or miss.
Edit2: Tried the "fix" on 10.1.2 (4.2.2) stable and it did not work.
Same Issue
The only rom Ive had good luck with was the 4.1 Carbon. And as stated it was a hit and miss deal, restarts were iffy. However I've had no luck with the "fix" on 10.1 stable either

The ONLY roms I've used with everything working inc BT were the 4.1.2 NON CM based touchwiz roms. Jedi and infamous as an example. THey have their other minor issues but the basics work.
What is the Bluetooth problem? I'm very curious. I did have an issue with Bluetooth on CM 10.1.2. The problem was that if I was in my car and I had Bluetooth enabled if I forgot to turn of the Bluetooth on the phone before shutting of my car, I couldn't re-enable it without rebooting the phone. Is that the problem you are referring to?
If so, I solved it on my phone. Under the Bluetooth settings I simply set it to be visible only to paired devices and set the Visibility Timeout to Never time out.
Hope this helps.
What happens to me is that I'll use BT n everything is good then it just stops working.. It pretty much turns off by its self and when I try to turn it back on it does nothing i turn it on then turns right off.. Need to reboot for it to work again.. I just wish there was a fix for this..

I'm waiting a little to try 4.3 anything until there is an official stable release. How is battery life on 4.3 Hellybean? I get about 16 hours a day on my CM 10.1.2 before I turn it off and charge it overnight. When I turn it off I have about 30% battery left. Is 4.3 Hellybean that good?

[Q] Low volume with Dirty Unicorns 4.4.2

Hi everyone,
Tried a few ROMs for the T989 and for me DU is the most stable and feature rich so I'm sticking to it, the only downside is the low overall volume: ringer, notifications, loudspeaker, etc.
Is there a workaround I'm missing?
Thanks!!
I'm not very familiar with Dirty Unicorns. It was always on my list of Roms I should try. But anyways, on Cyanogenmod we have DSP Manger, which controls audio effects. Does Dirty Unicorn have one? Is so you may want to play with the settings and see if you could fix it. If it doesn't have one I'm sure there's a fantastic one on the play store.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I forgot to ask. Did you ever try the volume on different Roms you installed?
I guess DU isn't the most stable ??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for you reply.
With all the roms I tried before settling for DU volume was not an issue, but on many the GPS lock was horrible. So far it's been very stable and y really dig the lockscreen expanded notifications which I couldn't get working with other roms.
Dirty Unicorns does not come with a DSP manager (or I haven't found it) but the few apps I've tried (like volume boosters or DSP managers) didn't make any difference.
I'm always glad to help.
Have you tried PacMan? I recently was using thus Rom and it was fairly stable, had various customizations, and was pretty feature filled. It had locksreen notifications.
Well considering it wasn't an issue on other Roms, it isn't hardware related. Are you running on the latest build? Did you do a full system wipe when switching between Roms? You can always try reflashing the latest DU build after wiping the cache, this may fix your issue.
Have you looked on the thread dedicated to the DU ROM? This may be an issue the Dev is aware of. If he hasn't stated knowing this and nobody had pointed it out, it would be wise to post your issue in the thread. Its possible someone might offer you a solution or confirm the issue on their device.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it for the last week with mixed results but today it became very laggy and some GPS apps (as Waze) would not run. This ROM does have better volume than DU but it's way slower.
Right now I'm switching to the latest stable Paranoid Android ROM released today, I hope it's stable, fast enough and with good volume.
Always happy to help. I don't play around much with apps that rely on GPS so I am not sure which have the most stability GPS wise.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
After trying a few more ROMs (AOKP, PA, Carbon) I think I'll just go back to DU and try to boost the volume of the ringtone and notification files before uploading them to my phone.
Thanks for the help!

Help! My phone screen stays off at the end of phone calls !

OK so I flashed the PAC ROM for hlte then I noticed my screen would stay asleep after every phone call forcing me to press home to wake it up pull down my notification bar and hanging up through the notification now I recently changed to the latest snapshot from cyanogenmod and flashed the latest lean kernel hoping that oy would be fixed and nope still does the same thing. Well then I'm going to say ALWAYS MAKE A BACK UP!! then you can delete it if ur new Rom works good but u should always keep at least ONE. If you do have that one back up I would say yes, go do that or the better and easier option is to just start completely fresh with a full wipe and new Rom. Hope this helps. Btw I have not had that problem since I used a week old back up

Its a kernel issue, and it could possibly be a cm source issue. Meaning most cm based kernels could have the hard sleep issue. So if its on one cm kernel its almost going to be on all. Since source commits are the same, just added features per kernel. I highly recommend yank 555 kernel, then you can tune your max off freq and hardlimit etc. May help you out a bit.. Pm me for link to thread if needed
