My wifi is really slow on the s4. But on my s3 and laptop it's fast. Any ideas?

Running into the same issue. Assuming and hoping it is resolved in one of the new updates or a ROM from a dev.
It connects, and would work fine, then if I make a call or something, it would go in this dormant mode.
Dont want to sabotage your thread Abhi, but another issue with Wifi I am dealing with is that even though I have set Network discovery to Off, it would keep finding Wifi Networks to connect to. Got tired of pulling my hair the first couple days, so just turn wifi off when I leave home.
Yes hopefully it will be resolved in the new update and I have never experienced that. You might wanna check your wifi setting.

It seems like the S4 phones sure do have a lot of problems that people "hope" will be resolved with a magical OTA. Maybe it'll happen.
Anyway, I ran across this thread in the AT&T S4 forum, maybe it can help with the issue...if it works at all.

I spent days researching and trying to figure out how to fix my wifi problems. I found quite a few threads with people reporting wifi problems plaguing the Galaxy SIII as well so I used their solutions to solve my wifi problems with the S4. Here's my solution.
No issues here. Maybe because I'm using 5ghz n?
i was thinking i was the only one as i saw no mention of it;
but yes, my wifi is unusually slow.
my LTE speeds are WAY faster.
my ap is a Ubiquiti Power AP N.
my SIII and Nexus 4 would easily match my ISP max speed... 50 Megabit.
S4 ?
i get around 25, 26, 27 megabits.
hmm.

I'll try that next. It's a lot better than doing *#0011# every reboot.. I had some issues with 4G doing basically the same thing that it was with WIFI, but I lost the connection soon after; so maybe it was a bad area.

It doesn't work for me on 5GHz. Sorry, maybe it does. I need to test it more. My XDA app keeps crashing and I need to use a more reliable program to test the connection.
Eh, some of my other devices cannot even see the network; so this isn't a solution for me. I hope they actually fix this or maybe CM doesn't have this problem.
Have a DLink DIR-855. Connects on both 2.4 & 5, but cannot access internet beyond a few seconds. Tried all of the above solutions, but no luck. Funny enough, I have a DLink repeater/booster that I connect to without a hitch!??
S2, S3, GN2 work flawlessly on all connections...
I also have dlink and does this look weird

I tried different channel's and even tested out the 5ghz band and was able to get it working by setting the frequency on the router to 38mhz.
Hey all. I’m not sure if there is a thread about this or not. If there is, MOD can you please delete it and point me to the right thread? Any ways, does anybody have any issues with the Wi-Fi on Sprint Galaxy Nexus? It won’t stream internet radio with the screen off. I use Tune In Radio and every time I turn the screen off it stops playing. It is like the Wi-Fi goes to sleep and when I turn the screen on it starts playing again. I checked the Wi-Fi sleeping policy & it is on always on. This is the second device with the same problem. I called Sprint they don’t know anything. I called Samsung and they wash their hands off of this. They told me that they don’t deal with the SW, only HW. For SW I have to contact Google. Any thoughts on this?
I was working with a coworker, and he noticed something strange. So we started doing tests and realized that my T989D jams wifi within 20 feet of it.
Heres the test setup
Multiple Wifi Networks:
WorkWifi(Linksys router)
Hotspot created by an iPhone
Devices used for speed tests
macbook pro(his)
MSI GT60(mine)
iPhone(when not acting as hotspot)
We ran speedtest.net tests, which shows average speeds, but ALSO, shows a graph with where speeds fluctuate.
Scenario One - My laptop is tethered via wifi hotspot to my phone
His laptop is on the WorkWifi
He first noticed, that while my laptop was rebooting, his FTP file transfer speeds went from around 30kb to 2mbit/second. When my laptop started, it went back down. Then we started running tests. Side by side speed tests(remember, hes on a different wifi network so its not about lack of bandwidth). Every time my laptop was downloading over the wifi to my phone then to 4g, his speedtest graph showed a DROP, a huge drop, then when it was done, his sped back up.
Second Scenario:
His iPhone tethered via wifi to my phone. His laptop and my laptop doing speed tests on WorkWifi. While his iphone was downloading, both of our laptops saw a HUGE dip(well below what is available on the work Wifi)
Third Scenario:
iPhone, both laptops on Work wifi
My phone on Workwifi, doing speedtest itself with the app.
All other devices slow to a crawl while my phone downloads.
Has anyone else noticed any strange wifi behavior around their phone?
there is an app in android market called "WiFi Kill" that does that intentionally
however in your case, it's rather un-intented, so perhaps some borked ROM with WiFi settings?
try a full wipe and flash a ROM again do another clean wipe before booting into the OS
do not restore any backup, it should not causes any more problem after you join the WiFi at this point
There is also an app called network spoofer.. I don't think it's in the market but it's a free download able apk.. It's basically an app for trolls that messes with people on the same network as you.. My favorite is the YouTube Rick roll.. F***ing hilarious! You'll know what I mean if you try it
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I'm gonna say the WiFi tethering is using the same frequencies as the other WiFi networks causing loss of packets in the communication through the air. Happens to me when we use the cordless phones which operate at 2.4GHz.

1,6 and 11 are popular because they are isolated from one another, all the other ch's overlap. If you put your router on a channel in between you are now getting interference from 2ch's not just one.
Note this was removed in lh1 and newer firmwares. Even worse is that I had mine set to 2.4ghz only and that Is what was still set after flashing to lh1 which means without thus app I could never have gotten 5ghz to work.

Thanks for this gonna make a backup and try it out
Edit: I don't know if I switch it over to 5 ghz it doesn't connect to anything at all. The wifi on this phone totally blows that's about my only gripe I just use the mobile network cause I know out won't drop!
Question: is there any possible way to actually just increase the power of the wifi? Or does that need some kind of patch or something? It would be nice to use wifi when not sitting directly in front of the router

i could never get mine to work...got tired and sent it back
Did you call them to boost the signal?? I had to do that when i first installed it..
My old samsung airave no problems till it stop working all red lights. It was recently replaced with the new model. Unable to make or receive calls while in range. Did plenty of online research. Going to replace my cable modem tomorrow maybe that will work.
I ran test that show less than 80% quality of service. Everything else was good. My ISP couldn't find any problems.

Thats a new one on me...
after fighting with sprint and my isp for months, I figured out that my airave's mac id was not programmed into sprints system at all. Finally I got to talk to a network technician within the airave server room. Within 1 hour he got it working. level 1 csr's will almost never setup a trouble ticket, but after fighting with them on multiple occasions, they finally did. If your problem is the mobile light blinking constantly, then this will fix the issue. Good luck getting them to start a trouble ticket.

when I first bought my gs3, I had a similar issue, I called sprint, they changed my MIN#, never had an issue ever since. They told me MIN# has to be changed when using Airave. Of course, not all level 1 csr's even know what your talking about, much less why it needs to be changed.
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3
I have the 2.5 and love it. Honestly it's the best one I've ever had, and I've had the first gen and 2 2.0's (both 2.0 were crap). You need to get in touch with their airave service techs to get things straightened out as noted above, but they've been able to solve any issues I've ever had. They even have a separate group email address which will get them to respond literally within minutes unless they're currently swamped. I sent them an email to call me about an issue and within 5 minutes they called me. I'll see if I can find the email addy and I'll post it up if I can.
I will try that. We did the mac id when I connected the airave.
It works for a little bit then I get the unable message.

sounds like its not correctly provisioning itself. Doesn't sound like a mac id issue, mine wouldn't work at all. Did you open any ports on your router? Router could be blocking some of the ports required for the airave to communicate with Sprint's servers, or some isps block VOIP ports in an effort to force you to buy their phone service.
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3
I have an old dlink router 615. It worked fine with my original Samsung airave. I am testing again. I exchanged the cable modem for a newer one. This modem is definitely faster but same quality of service score. According to the 8x8 voip test I can have more than 15 voip connections.
Thinking of getting a new router.

Hi there
Recently I've been having a lot of issues with wifi calling. I haven't been able to receive any calls directly go somewhere voicemail and when I try to call somebody it says the call cannot be made at the moment
This really sucks because I got really bad cell phone reception in my house I was really thinking of using this as my main way of getting calls in my house
Is there any way to fix it or maybe troubleshoot it in anyway
By the way I'm running tweaked rom on my device

Meaning they started on stock after all you did was root it? Interesting... I use it pretty often and haven't noticed any big difference between pre- and post- rooted. Maybe flash back to stock, test it out, and if all is well try again? That's what I would do anyway.
Most likely you are having these issues only when the phone has weak/poor wifi signal, can you confirm ?
