This little tool is pretty simple: it just updates any Windows Phone to the latest 7.8 version, through a nice, user friendly wizard that is always responsive and gives a lot of feedback during the process, serving as a frontend for Microsoft's UpdateWP.exe tool. Best of all, you may stop the update chain and continue later and it will remember the languages you selected.
All you should need is:
Windows Vista, 7 or 8
.NET Framework 4.5
Phones tested
Thanks to everyone who has reported back their success to update these devices! Hopefully, this will add some confidence to people who want to use this tools!
Nokia Lumia 800 (lesmo_sft)
LG Optimus 7 (lesmo_sft)
HTC HD7 (michael_ta315)
HTC Titan (wavrunrx)
Samsung Focus (tekcard, GauharJK)
I could've messed up the name of some phones because I don't know them, but that's what I've read in the post. So if anyone, for example, know that HTC HD7 is the same as the Titan, then please let me know and I'll fix this list!
FAQ
Before posting or sending a PM, check this:
Every single Windows Phone is supported, no matter the carrier nor the manufacturer (although there appears to be issues with "Walshed" phones)
Custom ROMs are not recommended to be updated (it's a custom ROM, it should already have 7.8 right?)
This tool can update from version 7720 and everything in between, to 8862 (which is WP7.8 with the Tile Update fix)
This tool uses official Microsoft CAB files, listed here
It's very unlikely that your phone gets bricked if you follow the wizard
What's next?
Yes, there's more. I plan to extend this tool to help those guys with phones that had troubles with the updates because of not selecting the right languages, or some package related problems.
I'm not sure how many people would actually use Windows XP to update, but I'll adapt parts of the code to compile under .NET 2.0 or 3.0 so it can be used with XP.
I may even think about supporting deployment of packages to multiple devices, but I think it's just not used.
Why?
I've been a major lurker here on XDA (since 2010) and never posted a single thing. I'm passionate for ease of use, nice graphics and responsive user interaction... so I think it's time to share, help and learn! Because of that, I created this little tool inspired on Windows Phone Hacker's seveneigther.
Credits
Credits go to Jaxbot (the guy behind Windows Phone Hacker) for inspiration, and all the people posting in this thread keeping the CABs list up to date.
Feel free to post problems, bugs you find and suggestions
Volunteers
Yes. You can help even if you're not a guy who knows how to write code. Right now, this little tool supports English and Spanish out of the box. If you'd like to help with the localization of this tool in your language, PM me (or call me maybe? ) and I'll provide you with the file or strings needed so you can translate them, and I'll update the tool.
An easier and faster way to help with the translation, is through Transifex. You can access the project here: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/sharp7eighter/

But screenshot?

Wow awesome,
I will try this when I get home
I have T-mobile HTC radar. running windows Phone 7.5 with OS version 7.10.8107.79 and my PC is windows 7 with .net 4.5 installed and phone tool installed.
After choosing the correct language (which is US English), it went to complete screen. Nothing seems to happen. I tried restart the PC and a few times.
Help
so im an android guy and i have never even used a windows phone; but my friend has asked me to upgrade his HTC Titan (the original titan)
i installed all the pre-req's and i get as far as sharp7eighter asking me what language is installed in the titan;
next screen i get this:
i see in the OP, version 7740 is required as a base; so im left wondering;
is the ATT HTC Titan one of the phones that cannot be updated ?
are we stuck at v. 7720 ?
thanks
Same issue as tracywong, after language selection, just the completed screen.
same here. 7720

Hmmm... so no one confirmed this work? hmmmm..... not much reputation with this guy too.... hmmm........ maybe i'm wrong :silly: but i'll hold off until someone confirm it's working.
will it work with lumia 800?
I have a Dell Venue Pro running 7.5 v7720. I apparently am a wizard. I receive the same error
In all seriousness though, I am excited and willing to test if you could help.
Not working on:
Lumia 610
LG E900
it just goes directly to the You are Done screen!
Ooops!
Hi folks! Quick update on the issue some of you are reporting. It's a little problem with a thing on the way I parse the update chain, that I've just fixed. I tested on a Lumia 800 (which by the way has some languages not listed on the tool or the XDA thread), and so far it looks good.
I'll upload the fixed version in a couple of hours. I'll check the problem with the very first version of Windows Phone and report back.
Thanks for your patience and reports!

Just to add -- this did not work on a Verizon HTC Trophy. It went straight to the "we're done" screen with no activity on the phone.

So, I'm currently testing with a Nokia Lumia 800 I have in stock. The problem is now mostly solved, I'm just fixing a little problem occurring after the phone reboots from a successful update.

Did you miss a language package? Did you run SevenEighter twice on the same phone? Did you run UpdateWP.exe to install other update packages? Is it a custom ROM? Have you tried resetting it? Answer to these questions can help me and many others try to come up with a solution.

Personally I am waiting for custom themese and the ability to use freaking internet sharing without ponying up the extra 30 dollars US that the darn phone comes built with. Oh registry tweak where are you!?
I'd be surprised if there isn't at least an Interop unlock within a month.

Agreed. Fortunately, we've got some of the brightest DEVs in the world working on it.
Is anyone else able to install the care suite on a win 7 64 bit system? I keep getting errors that I need some x86 c++ thing installed, which leads me to believe there is no 64 bit version. Not to mention that what I've read says that you need v4 installed to run v5. Both give me the error. Any ideas?

I'm running it on Windows 7 Professional x64, and I only installed v5. When you see those errors, copy and paste (highlight/Ctrl C) the addresses to download the required files. There were two for me. Install the first one, then try to run the installer again, it pops up with another one. Install that, then try to install again, and it goes right through.
Also, after installation, you will need a USB driver for the Nokia Suite & Fuse Connection Manager. For my Windows version, I used this one:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers\WinUSB Drivers x64.msi
There are a bunch in there, but this worked for me. If that does not work for someone, try another. I'd suggest this one for Windows 7 x86:
C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers\WinUSB Drivers x86.msi
Believe me, NOBODY is more excited than I am to find this, and find it works on Windows 7 x64. Now, I can start to play with released Custom ROMs and Customizations without worrying as much. During Recovery, there is an option for USB Dead Phone Flashing. I would assume this is for Bricked Phones.
anybody use the Data Package Manager yet to see what Roms that Nokia has available? I am seeing two variants of the Rom for each color Lumia 900.
For Example for the Black version I see 2 listed they are
1. RM-808 ATT RETAIL DEVICE ALIVE BLACK
2. RM-808 VAR ATT BLACK
Anybody have an idea as to what could be different? In the Package Manager there is nothing to distinguish what the difference is between the 2 other than the Product Code of the ROM, the SW Version is the same throughout all the ROMS, and the Firmware Files are all the same size minus the Rogers Rom, they are all 350.42MB.
I've Uploaded a screenshot of the application with the ROMS Listed.
I don't know what's different, if anything, but I personally flashed the ATT Retail Alive one to my phone. I believe they call those others Variant files.
Use Rogers's ROM to flash AT&T devices
Anyone try to do this? Because of seems like the internet sharing in AT&T is different than WW model.

Nokia Lumia 900
HI Gents,
Have a question as i'm quiet new to this:
I have a Nokia Lumia 900 locked by at&t in the US. I purchased it on ebay and live in Australia.
By me flashing this phone, will it unlock it from the at&t network with ROMS provided by the above links in this thread?
Best Regards,
crowvat

I don't believe you can unlock the radio by flashing one of these, but maybe someone else can offer insight?
Again, I have NOT successfully flashed the Rogers ROM to my ATT Lumia, and I'm not even sure it will work. Keep in mind, it may brick your phone like flashing the wrong version of the Focus ROMs did to some Samsung Focuses, or how the HD2 had two different Radio Versions that bricked them if used incorrectly. Those two situations were unrecoverable without sending in to Factory for repair.
Another thing to keep in mind. These are 100% Original ROMs from Nokia. There are no changes or Hacks in these. You only get what your phone was originally shipped with. No need to use these if your phone is working properly. I posted them for anyone who wanted to look inside the ROMs for hacking, or anyone who has a phone in brick state that wants to try to recover.
I have a feeling successfully being able to flash the Rogers ROM over the ATT ROM might actually unlocked the internet sharing... However it's probably best to confirm in the other forum with someone who's unlocked the Rogers L900 on Telus if they were able to actually use it or if it remaining locked to Rogers.. If not, we're wasting our time trying.
I just tried to FORCE flash the Rogers ROM to my ATT Lumia, but I could not get it to work. It is failing due to not being correct hardware. Someone else might have better luck than I did. My guess is the files will need to be modified a little somewhere.
I also just added Images to the first Post that show Nokia Care Suite, and what phones are supported using this tool.

Rogers customer here.
The internet sharing option IS available but any connected devices will not get internet access unless you have a tethering plan. So even if you flash a Rogers ROM to an AT&T phone, it seems the provider still can disable internet sharing on their end.

I wonder if you can't flash it right now because the Rogers version is also a HSPA 42 device while the ATT is only 21. Dont know if this is enough of a difference for it not to work.

That's how the ATT version is. The option exists, but you have to call in to ATT and have it enabled for an extra charge.
I believe for those who want it free, you'll need to wait for registry access... Even then, doesn't ATT eventually find out and back charge?
Makes me wonder. Can a Rogers customer call Rogers and have it enabled for a charge on an ATT phone?
I was able to update the ATT Samsung Focus launch device to tango using the "force update" (disconnect while checking update after setting phone to airplane mode) when my brand was set to ROG-CA.
If you want to update, you need to install the samsung focus interop unlock
Run the Samsung Register XAP to set your phone branding to ROG-CA
Enable Airplone mode, connect to zune, disconnect during check for updates and patiently wait (and try again until it works lol)
No issues reported thus far, i did have 8107 and there were two updates applied when doing this method.
i also performed the same tasks and was able to update successfully. i had two updates as well. i have to windowbreak my phone again after the updates to set my carrier back to ATT-US
so far, all works well.

Once you switch to ROG-CA, update and switch back to ATT-US is there anything else that needs to be done?
Also, does this work for both 1.3 and 1.4?

You're in the wrong place mate.
You need to be here:
"From there, use your favorite registry editor and flip HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator to a different mobile operator that is delivering the update to that device. For the Samsung Focus 1 on AT&T, that meant changing ATT-US to ROG-CA (for Rogers, a Canadian carrier). Once you have you valid registry key entered, pop your phone into Zune, and check for updates. After you update your device, be sure to change the registry back to the initial value, to assure that you receive any targeted updates in the future."

No, it was a post mango update. However the method of accessing the registry and the value you change remains the same regardless of which version you are running or try to upgrade to.
Just an FYI - I tried this about 20 minutes ago and cannot get my OG focus to upgrade using this method.

Its a known bug with the Tango update. There is a way to update and keep interop unlock using a prevent relock xap you can find on xda. Just search for relock xap in the WP7 development forum and I'm sure you'll find it.

I was under the impression it was the very last update after the Tango OS update being a SAMSUNG update causing the issue. THIS is the one that supposedly relocks the phone. Hmm, I wonder - now that you've been through the update procedure once whether the files are stored locally and you could do the update offline?
The alternative is to try the CAB file method.
Let me know how you go.

I stilldont understand the logic behind these updates. It worked previously. I mean when I changed operator name it showed that I have an update but today it is not showing. I take back what I said in my before post as I saw one of the use commenting like below
I just updated a easier way and worked fine.
Here the description.
Maybe some points are not necessary but this is how I tried.
- Download relockPrevent.xap and install on phone
- Add in the %systemroot%/system32/drivers/etc/hosts: 192.168.1.1 developerservices.windowsphone...
- Turn on Airplane mode on your phone
- Turn off WiFi on your phone
- Update your phone with Zune
- If your phone restarts to install the update, disconnect your PC from Internet
- after update is installed, run relockPrevent.xap which is already installed an the phone
Now you can use your phone.
You have the update and it is still unlocked.
Hello everyone.
I have a Nokia Lumia 900 with unlocked bootloader / Qualcomm. I mean, I have Nand Access (if I try OSBL mode it asks to format). I'm currently running OS v 8107 and update 8773 is available but update is not feasible via Zune nor NCS (it does not find Nokia bootloader and can't proceed, so reboots).
As far as I know, updating via QPST is neither posible because of custom ROM (.nb file) is not available at this momento. Am I right?
The unlock bootloader is as is 'since factory'. Is there any chance to flash 'original' Nokia DLOAD so I can upgrade via Zune and/or flash OEM ROM via NCS?
Any help would be appreciated.
I've never heard of a Lumia 900 with a Qualcomm bootloader.
But if in fact you do, you should be messaging biktor_gj and Heathcliff so they can get a copy of that bootloader from you

Really, it my case, and that's why it's difficult to me to updating because they have not yet been able to unlock 900. Thanks for the tip, i'm going that way.
This might be what we've been all waiting for ankerael - keep us posted please if this might lead to unlocking the Lumia 900!

Well if its the same Qualcomm bootloader that the 800 & 710 have, its my understanding that its already unlocked.
biktor_gj was the one that discovered it for the 800/710, that's why its crucial you message him. If you do in fact have a Qualcomm bootloader for a 900, he would be able to set it up so that we with the NLOAD bootloader can downgrade to the Qualcomm. Then custom roms can happen.
But until then, you can upgrade via the CAB method SuperSport has provided here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736863. It only updates the OS though, not the firmware

Hi,
I had already DM biktor_gj and am awaiting for his response. I tried CAB method before (1 month aprox) and had no success. When it restarts the pone and sends upddated files it gives and error (don't remember the number, i'll try to reproduce later) and reboots with the OS non updated.
I'll keep you updated when I try CAB method once again and regarding the response I get of the DM. Thanks again

anything happen yet? i've recently purchased a Lumia and i'm definiely wondering about this. an amazing phone regardless!
Definitely DON'T upgrade anything until heathcliff and others can check out your bootloader. If you do indeed have qualcomm bootloader (and it seems you do as no update method is working for you) this could be VERY helpful in helping us unlock other Lumias.
This sounds like amazing news if it can be done.
How do I find out what bootloader I have on my lumia 900?
Thanks

Turn off your phone. Then, boot into recovery (Either Power+Volume Up or Power+Volume Down), then plug the phone into your computer. If it asks you to format, say no, it can brick your phone. You have a Qualcomm bootloader. If it says "NOKIA DLOAD", then you have a Nokia bootloader.

I have Qualcomm bootloader and still have no clue about recovering DLOAD or even flashing a custom/stock ROM. I can't even update via Zune. Still stuck at 8107.79 (FW 8107.12071) ...
Any idea pls?
Hi,
Many people sent me messages with a reference to this thread. So, I will post here some info on this subject.
- It would be useful for research purposes to have a dump of the ROM. You can do that by connecting your Lumia to a Linux box and have it mounted a mass-storage-device. Linux has proper file-system-drivers to access the device. Make sure you don't write anything to the device. Just make a backup of all the files you see on the phone. Use WinRAR to pack it and upload it somewhere for sharing.
- In general, the NOKIA bootloaders have already been analyzed. But they are coded very tightly. No exploit for a HSPL-like-hack have been found yet.
- The dumped bootloader cannot be used to downgrade existing phones to the version with the unlocked bootloader, unless a hardware hack, similar to this, will be found for Lumia 900. It cannot be used now, because a signed certificate is missing for that.
- Currently only ankerael can benefit from this. After you made a backup of all the files/partitions (in Linux), you could ask a ROM builder, like Ultrashot, to fix a nice ROM for you. Maybe he can create an unlocked ROM for Lumia 900 for you? You could follow this guide for flashing the Nokia Lumia. Be careful! It is easy to brick your device with this stuff!
Good luck,
Heathcliff74

Is there any chance that someone could find a hardware hack or the certificate for the 900? Is anyone actively working on this, or is development on the 900 basically dead now that the 920 has replaced it? I know that others have replied to and asked this question, so sorry for asking it again, but I just wanted an update
Thanks,
Matthew

Problem-
A couple days ago i flashed my Nokia LUMIA 510 to windows 7.8 from 7.5 using Stock NOKIA 7.8 rom downloaded using navifirm & flashed through Nokia Care Suite...
On getting my hands on a stock build of 7.8, i dumped it and again compiled it up using OS Builder tool (i din changed anything in the stock rom except adding more colors and also adding full unlock registry entries)..
So, now i have a Full Unlocked LUMIA 510 windows phone 7.8 custom rom of my own in a .nb format as compiled by the OS Builder....
Bcoz like the 710 and 800 lumias the 510 doesnt have a unlocked bootloader, so the question of flashing my custom rom using nokia downloader or any other tool is not possible.....the only thing i know that can flash my lumia is Nokia Care Suite...& the problem is that NCS doesn't support flashing .nb formatted custom roms...
So, is there any way i can trick the Nokia Care Suite to install my custom rom or i just have to wait for the bootloader to be unlocked by someone?? (or if possible can i unlock it myself, any hacking cracking, etc, any info on this will help me too)
Bcoz if i can just find a way of flashing this thing, this gonna be the first custom rom ever know on the LUMIA 510..:fingers-crossed:
BTW the 7.8 rom from navifirm is working perfectly, no bugs so far, and bluetooth file sharing working great too!!....
..& guys i'm sorry if i have missed any 'technical lingo' that might be in use in windows phone hacking scene, i was an avid android dev before, used android for two years..:cyclops: and after moving over to windows phone i certainly don't miss android..

ill hazard a guess and say until you have a custom bootloader (is anyone even working on it?) your stuffed, probably because the bootloader requires it to be an official ROM, and likely signed as well.

You can't install a ROM that is not signed by Nokia on any device with a Nokia DLOAD bootloader. I'd suggest you dig through the "NAND access" thread over at the Lumia 800 section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587650. It covers a lot of (mostly unsuccessful) ideas and approaches to get access to the internal device storage.

Core Android User and Newbie with Windows
As of now you simply CANNOT flash a custom rom to the lumia 510 or any other lumias with a Nokia DLOAD bootloader. So unless you downgrade it to Qualcomm Bootloader, its just not possible. Only the Lumia 710 can be easily changed to Qualcomm Bootloader, other lumias aren't so easy as they require you to purchase ATF boxes and require hardware tampering.
Does anyone have username and password for the new Nokia Care Suite?

Have you tried this: Product support tool for store -> Sign in to: CareSuite External -> Open product (801=Lumia 800 for example) -> Programming -> Recovery -> Find online...
For me it does not give ROM list as it used to before. I think that Nokia has blocked unauthorized downloads for good. I hope that someone could leak username/password for store to download these ROM's.

Good afternoon.
I come with the illusion that any developer can help users of LG P870, I wonder if someone could develop a way to install ClockworkMod recovery as custon able to use unofficial roms, and I am desperate for waiting to come out some method to free once and for all this great phone, the phone is becoming popular because it is inexpensive and is being distributed in the U.S. by AT&T and Telcel Mexico, please support us to all of us that we have this phone.
To add a little, this phone already has root method Bin4ry with a restore script via adb.
I would love for this phone to get unlocked with CWM. It's an amazing phone. We just need to pull everyone together that has one and get them on here until someone can help. I appreciate all of the devs on here and I hope we can get something going on this awesome phone.
Ditto.
Jelly Beans.... Optimus F5 has it. Escape is the same phone. Guess we wait. Hopefully, not as long like Optimus 3D/Thrill.
Disappointing
send an email to LG for a response on whether there would be an early upgrade of our model to Jelly Bean or at least unlocking the bootloader and this was his response:
Thank you for your interest about our mobile phone.
“We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site(http://opensource.lge.com).
This site is just for providing source codes of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we have used in our product.”
We don’t have any detailed information about LGP870’s boot loader unlock.
If there is any news, LG will announce officially.
Please wait for more times.
We hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
simply a misfortune I regret having bought this phone from LG
No support
I contacted LG open source and the person that emailed me back said that the escape doesn't support bootloader unlocking.

Has there been any development on P870 so far? At least is there a way to get unbloated version of stock firmware or change the language of the OS?
It would be cool if there is at least a list of stuff we can safely get rid of? Or can we try to get a different version to remove all the crapware AT&T pre-loaded?
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, there has been no further development. I love this phone, but the lack of support is slowly making me go for either the optimus g or g2. Also as far as I know, there is no list. Its just trial and error I guess. I've personally tried to remove some stuff, but after a reboot it says security error. So certain things will cause a security error while others will be just fine. Btw, the only way (that I know of) to fix a security error is to use the lg support tool to recover your phone.

I see you are still using the device, any specific complaints about the software or the bloatware? Or are they just sitting there chilling until you actually run them? I know T-Mo had a bunch that were constantly running like T-Mo back up, My T-Mo, etc.. After the security error, was it a total restore/recovery or was it not destructive recovery? Sorry, I am not familiar with LG at all, coming from T-679 which was extremely flexible, this is a bit puzzling.
How about language, anyway to switch the language of the OS to something like German?

Try putting your phone in download mode before using the lg support tool. That normally helps for me. Make sure you choose upgrade recovery in the options tab.

They don't run in the background unless you update them and set them up. I keep all the updates uninstalled and disable auto update so i don't have to worry about them. And yes it is a total recovery. Nothing is saved unless it is on your sim card or sd card. You can change the system language, but I don't see a german option. You might be able to download a language pack from the play store. I'll check into it and let you know.
P.S. sorry for the late reply..

I went to try to install the recovery and rom. First question is, I skipped the driver install and rooting my phone because I am already rooted using motochopper. The f5_touch_ recovery.apk I was told to run does nothing? I tried extracting it and it swill doesn't run or bring anything up? Do I need a program to run this file or is it because I didn't use the method included to root? Then if that is the case and i'm successful at the recovery. What do I need to do to install the Rom?Please help ASAP! I have the recovery and ROM downloaded and saved waiting to install! Been waiting to do this forever so please help! THanks sooo much!
