One-year old rooted HOX stuck on CM09 bootloader - HTC One X

Hi all,
Last night I restarted my phone and since then I haven't managed to boot into the rom. I rooted it a year ago so this is rather surprising now. It's stuck on the CM09 bootloader. Any suggestions? No backups are available.
Thank you!

Lets get it back to stock and then also update the software + hboot so you can run all jellybean roms again
Do this fastboot command please
Fastboot getvar version-main
Post the outcome number

Thank you for the quick reply Mr Hofs!
Here is my number:
version-main: 1.28.771.9

1) Download this - http://bugsylawson.com/index.php/fi...9-radio-1120410314h-release-256494-signedexe/
2) Reboot your phone into fastboot
3) in cmd - fastboot oem lock
4) Run the downloaded file with administrator rights.
This will bring you back to 100% stock.

Thank you athuhele, unfortunately I've got a mac and cannot run .exe files. I've been reading all morning posts on XDA, but I still cannot find a reliable way (meaning, one that I trust myself to perform!) to do it.
Any other, mac-friendly suggestions?

To make matters even worse, I downloaded VM-Ware but:
1) My mac superdrive is broken, so cannot load a windows CD
2) Cannot download windows as I'm on a college network that doesn't allow many downloads...
I'll try to borrow a windows PC from someone and get back to you once that happens...

Hello again. I got a windows PC in my possession and I tried doing the things you suggested. I managed to relock the phone, but I can't get on the stock rom because battery is under 30%.
I tried the batch trick, but my phone doesn't appear to be charging.
What else would you suggest at this point? Thank you so much for helping me out!

Have you installed the One X drivers on the Windows PC??

The phone is charging, but it's still not over 30%. I'm running the .exe file you proposed (many thanks!) but it won't load it as the battery is under 30%.
I've left my phone to charge on the laptop and will try again in a couple of hours, once it gets more juice (hopefully).
I tried checking battery status on adb, but I get an error message "device not connected" or "not found" (cannot remember which).

Put the phone in the bootloader and execute the script from the fastboot folder on the pc !
Or enter the custom recovery and charge the battery in there

When she's above 10% she should be able to enter a custom recovery. Fastboot erase cache will help. Running the batch will work too but its less good for the phone and it will indeed take longer

Dear men, let's clarify first one thing: I'm a woman!
So, got back, the phone was switched off, no charging light or any indication. After messing with my phone a bit, connecting it to my mac and then pc, I got the bootloader back.
Battery level went down.
I erased cache. I'm letting it charge a bit more and then see if I can enter recovery (right now it's impossible). But wait, can I enter recovery since I've relocked the phone?

Oh dear ! Apologies
Never tried to acces the recovery with a locked bootloader but it should be possible. Or try to unlock it and flash a custom recovery to charge in there. You need 10% of power to do that.
Edit :
You need a custom recovery to charge .....charging in a stock recovery won't work. Just for info

I can confirm that I can't access recovery.
Sooo... in order to re-lock it, do I follow the original procedure that I used in first place? From the HTC dev website etc etc? Or is there a simpler way to do it nowadays?
Thank you very much for the help guys!
Edit:
Tried unlocking bootloader but didn't work, battery is too low...
FAILED <remote: battery low>

Then the only way is to charge the phone switched off, or running the batt script.
Relocking is done with a fastboot command
Fastboot oem lock
And unlocking can be done with the unlock_code.bin file you got the first time in the mail from htc. Put the file in the fastboot folder and use this command to unlock the bootloader again if you wish
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin

Hi there!
I've just fixed my One X. I had a problem with the ROM and not workind ADB, I was stuck and couldn't reinstall an another ROM because I couldn't acces the phone memory and nothing.
Don't know in which case you're stuck now, but if you want to reinstall an another ROM just use the "HTC One X All in one tool" and reinstal Clockwork recovery, when done with that, push an another ROM to your "sdcard" using ADB, flash the boot.img and reinstall the ROM.
Only issue is that you lose your data!
This really worked for me, I was stuck with this problem for lets say 16 hours without a brake, and I've DONE IT!!

Typical.......I don't read at all ! We have a dead battery that has to go over 30% to be able to run a ruu to get back to stock.....why am i typing this......read back

[Q] Big problem with Evo!

Okay so yesterday I accidentally downloaded an old RUU and attempted to run it. I got an error in the middle of it and my phone was then stuck on a silver and black HTC screen. When I unplugged the USB it would take me to the Bootloader where it would then only say "RUU". Phone won't reboot or go into recovery. And one more small problem... The battery just died and wont charge. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

can I use " Okay so yesterday I accidentally downloaded an old RUU and attempted to run it." in my sig???
btw what hboot did you have before and what version ruu did you try and install?
Yes lmao.
Version 2.10, downloaded new one but having trouble doing it since battery died and not sure the phone will actually connect.
charge the battery some and see if the phone turns on, see if it will boot into recovery/rom etc
Ok, will try to charge battery, but from what i've tried, could not get in to recovery or get the bootloader to come up.
if you can not get anything on the screen and the phone won't mount the sdcard and adb won't connect, be prepared for a drive to the sprint store

I've actually came across this on the HTC Hero CDMA. i accidentally installed the wrong hero rom, cause at the time i was a noob to the android. an i tried to ruu but it failed. i kept doing all i could and playing with it. but where u ruu got half way through. and debug mode/recovery is reset by half way through.
only thing you can do is try to get into Hboot mode and try to see if u can connect to usb that way. then try to ruu

If you can get into the bootloader your going to be just fine. Use the fastboot option in the bootloader to get your phone to connect to your computer, I have done this numerous times to unroot! You might have to reboot your computer just to refresh the connection etc and also reboot the bootloader a few times from that fastboot menu before running the RUU on the computer.

No you shouldnt need to pull the SD. But I would try rebooting your computer and maybe your phone and get into the bootloader without it connected to your computer. Then connect it and go into fastboot and try what i described earlier.

Xperia S Fastboot problem

So I was about to root my Xperia S and started reading a guide, it said that I would need to load some files into the phone using fastboot. After a while I figured out how to fastboot and managed to get the popup on my computer once, however, I didn't install it that time and now when I try to fastboot again I get the blue LED on my phone, my computer makes some noises indicating that something unusual have been conected, nothing happens and the phone shows the Sony logo.
Does anybody know how to fix the problem and get the popup on the computer to re apear.
I run a 64 bit windows 7 home premium.
Thanks.

So for Unlocking Bootloader You have to use fastboot mode.. ok
and after that, for rooting it should be done using flashtool in fastboot mode..
so here is the thing.. Download The Flashtool first And After extracting the files You'll Find a Folder Named Drivers.. first Install The Fastboot Drivers Even To Unlock The Bootloader..

Hello I have an Xperia S, with bootloader locked and recently installed a ROOM in order to get the 6.A.1.2.55 with root.
Installed from a ZIP from recovery mode following this post:

Now when I try to do step 7 (flash kernel and Baseband) Using Flashtool, Im unable to enter to the mode; when the windows prompts me, I turn off the phone, press and hold Vol up connect the USB but nothing happens, only the Sony Logo and then the icon of charging battery, I also tried to turn off the phone while holding Power button + Vol up (at the same time) and get the 3 vibrations, but the same result when I connect, the logo and the charging animations/icon..( no LED of any color or anything)
Im using the latest Flashtool version (0.9.9.0) with the drivers intalled (even though Windows security constantly pestered me about not being able to identify the source and signture) on Windows 7 64 bits..
Thank you..

[Q] One x won't recognise computer.

Hi,
I want to root my One X (international) but I get stopped straight away because my phone won't connect to my computer. When I plug the USBs to both my computer and my phone nothing happens, except charging. There are no options given and the phone doesn't show up as a drive on the computer.
I've installed HTC Synch Manager, tried 4 USB cords, tried 3 computers, I've switched on USB Debugging.
The HOX is on Android 4.1.1
Any ideas? I've scoured many forums to no avail. I'd really like to try some custom roms.
Cheers,
Hello
I have the same problem with my HOX and no solution
Gr
Are you saying there is no solution or that you don't know of one? Can someone confirm that this is a known and unresolvable problem or should I keep looking for a solution?
I will have a try then.....the bootloader is untouched (locked) and the phone has never been detected by the pc before ?
Also interesteded in what OS you are running !
Do you have the latest HTC usb drivers installed? Have you checked in device manager to see if phone is visible? Latest version of HTC sync installed?

Thanks. I bought the phone second hand from a young lass who had broken the screen (which I have replaced) so I presume the phone is standard and been updated to 4.1.1.
Some software information:
Software number 3.14.862.27
HTC SDK API level 4.63
Kernel version:3.1.10-g5ebf4bc [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT
I don't know if the phone has ever been detected by a computer before. I have installed the latest HTC Sych Manager on my Vista computer and no, the phone isn't detected in the device manager.
Although I have rooted my previous phone (Defy) and had kept up to date with the latest roms I am still fairly new at this.
Thanks for any help.

That's what I thought but I get nothing except charge. That is why I've tried a number of cables. I'm suspecting my micro USB socket is faulty. I've cleaned it and even checked how it's mounted. Solidly soldered so I'm checking every other avenue before replacing it as I have a dead Hox for spares.
Any idea if there is a way of rooting without a computer?

Ok. So is it your opinion that I'm stymied? Are there any other avenues I can try?
The phone is pretty good the way it is, I just like playing around with Roms etc. I'd also like to get rid of the Vodafone crap.
My guess something is broken somewhere in the usb connection....ofcourse, otherwise it would be recognized. But you figured that out already. Maybe a phone repair shop can take a quick peek at it ?
Otherwise your stuck on what you have now.
Well, it connects to the PC, but it only charges so I think this might be a software bug. Maybe you could try to root it and see if it fails at adb commands. My guess is that it will work. Just follow a rooting guide CAREFULLY and don't skip any steps.

First make sure usb debugging is on in settings. Maybe unlocking the bootloader and rooting will work. It's done from the fastboot usb screen where adb and fastboot commands should work. Give it a try before sending for repair.

I definitely agree with his idea, but the first thing you should do is completely restore you're one x.
Then check in hboot, that's power volume down wether the device is locked or relocked.
After that get the latest drivers, connect your hox in fastboot and try to unlock your device via HTC devs.com
Good Luck.
P.S. tell us what happens, we might find a solution all together

Thanks for this. You have given me some hope.
I've done a factory reset, checked that Debugging is on and checked in Hboot, it says *** LOCKED ***
I've connected the HOX to my Vista computer in which I've installed HTC Synch Manager. I presume this installs the latest drivers?
My Hox is still not recognised by the computer. When I request the identifier token it gets stuck on < Waiting for device >
Have I followed your instructions correctly?
Edit 1: Just to be sure I repeated the procedure on my desktop computer which is also running Vista. Same results.
Is there any way of extracting the identifier token within the phone?
Edit 2: I pulled the motherboard out and checked the micro USB port with a microscope. Pretty grotty inside so I cleaned, tightened and checked it. All clean but still no computer connection.
M
Any news/luck? Would like to know the outcome for this. :banghead:

AW: [Q] One x won't recognise computer.
Okay, so far so good. What you can do next is: go to settings/apps/all apps
and search for the pc-sync app and check if its enabled.
Next thing, try this special debugging driver http://blog.gambliser.com/dl/?p=144.
Good luck

[Q] Is my phone's bootloader bricked?

I am trying to update the HTC One VX AT&T version to the new JB official rom. however, i cannot use the update software on the phone or the recommended manual update as described at htc's website.
I have previously rooted and unlocked via the HTC developers code that they sent to me, and that all went fine. However, now my PC will not recognize the phone when it is in fastboot, and the HBOOT menu says I am ***TAMPERED***
Phone is recognized via HTC Sync program, and will go throught the initial steps in the RUU update file from HTC.com but as soon as the bootloader starts up, I is unrecognized again...
If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, or if there is any more information I can give you, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

If you were unlocked and s-on then you must relock bootloader before updating with ruu.
Just type this in fastboot, without the quotes
"Fastboot oem lock" in command prompt.

how would one do this if phone is not recognized in fastboot mode via adb?
uninstall htc sync. drivers will stay. sync gets in the way sometimes. I just used the ruu from the htc site and the setup wizard did it all. very easy, you could do it that way, no need to relock bootloader. or flash one of the Jellybean roms jmz has out. that would be the easiest way.
Thanks. Tried uninstalling HTC sync, and rebooting my pc. Still hangs when the phone restarts into bootloader. Still telling me it is unrecognized...

hboot and fastboot menus are the same. the tampered part is because of the custom recovery. if you are selecting fastboot and pc is not detecting the device, thats odd. if you havent, change usb port and cable.
it is possible to get drivers issues with fastboot/hboot. when connecting usb cable after fastboot is selected does it change to FASTBOOT USB?
did you turn USB debugging on? are you going to fastboot after going into the bootloader?

I have tried with about 3 different USB cables, and every different available USB port. all to no avail. If i select fastboot manually by holding the power and volume down, then it will say fastboot, until I push the volume up or down, then it will switch to fastboot usb.
when the RUU program triggers a reboot into the fastboot mode (I'm assuming that's what it is trying to do, anyway) it just hangs on a black screen with a big white HTC logo, until the program times out and I have to exit. Restarting the phone is no issue, because it just starts up like normal.

USB debugging is on, and see above reply regarding fastboot.
Thanks everyone for their help so far...I know we can get to the bottom of this!

Do "fastboot oem rebootRUU". You should see the device in device manager. Then run the ruu again.

Same deal if I reboot to fastboot via ADB or manually with the phone. As soon as I enter fastboot, no longer recognized by the computer.

you said that the phone gets into black screen with htc white letters. that means normal fastboot still works because the RUU sends that same command. i ask you again to check windows device manager and see if your device is there. if its not, try unplug and replug usb cable.
Unplugging and plugging the cord back in did nothing. Device manager lists the device as unknown. It says something about device reporting error.

OK. I will try that. I'm running a system I built myself with Windows 8. Do you think that windows 8 is causing some issues? my wife's laptop is still windows 7...I will try that tonight. fingers crossed!
So I tried on windows 7, and the RUU is able to get as far as the part that says updating signature, at which point it sits there for a few minutes, then gives me error 132 and tells me to download the correct rom update utility for my phone??!
Is there any chance that having twrecovery is causing this? If so, an ideas on how to go back to stock recovery?

Installed TWRP and battery died!!

So i was planning on rooting my htc one x, it wouldn't have been the first phone i root. But for some reason after fastboot unlocking and everything. The phone said:
***TAMPERED***
Fastboot unlocked
Which is a good sign because it meant i was doing things right (i suppose) but for some reason every time i would try to put it in recovery so i could get the TWRP menu it would just reboot. I said to myself "oh its 3am ill go to sleep and do it tomorrow" bad idea. Battery died overnight and now it wont turn on even if i put it to charge. I tried connecting it to the computer and the pc tries to install some drivers, it says
QHSUSB_DLOAD "X"No Driver Found
Unidentified Device "X" Device Unpluged
Any idea on what i can do to get my phone to work again?
Download the latest HTC drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217396
Find a USB2.0 port and connect your phone and try to get it into fastboot and run the charging script for a long time:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658084
Good luck!
Edit: Sure you have a One X? Next time try one of the other available recoveries.
I'm thinking you have the one XL, i havent seen tegra 3 htc's with tampered on bootloader

I have!
Hope you managed to charge your phone using the script.
To make sure you have a One X, could you post the result of the command "fastboot getvar all" but make sure you mask your serial and IMEI.
