Hey guys,
I think this is my first post on the forum yet.
Sharing a simple method for those of you who wants a silent bootup process and a silent shutdown for their Tmobile Galaxy S4!:good:
Root your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258633 Thanks Dan for the tutorial.
Install any root explorer.
Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Rename the following two files:
PowerOn.ogg -> poweron.ogg.bak
PowerOff.ogg -> poweroff.ogg.bak

Thanks for the helpful info
So is it safe to say that they can be replaced and instead of hearing those sounds we'll hear whatever we replace them with?

Yes, all you have to do is get a .ogg file and name it Poweron.ogg or Poweroff.ogg

You don't have to root. Download Silent
Boot from play store. It works.
Or, just turn your system volume all the way down.
Works perfectly with pretty much any phone.
I have used this trick on 5 different phones with full success: Verizon DROID 2, Verizon Samsung Stratosphere, Verizon DROID RAZR, T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3, T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4.
Silent mode before shutdown I'd a easier fix without voiding your warranty.

1. Download Gingerbreak.apk from below link (link at bottom of post). Comment here if you are unable to download it. We will email the file to you.
2. Extract the zip file and save on your computer’s desktop.
3. Connect the phone to your computer.
4. Mount SD card as flash drive.
5. Copy the downloaded Gingerbread apk file to SD card root.
6. You should have any File Manager (e.g., Astro File Manager) on your phone. If not, download from Market.
7. Disconnect your phone from computer and launch File Manager.
8. Follow the onscreen instructions on File Manager to install APK to your phone from SD card root.
9. After installation completes, open the APK.
10. Press ‘root’ button.
11. The APK exploit will run for some time. Usually it runs for around 10 minutes. Your phone will be rebooted. (Note that If it stucks and takes more than 10 minutes, reboot your device).
12. Your device is now rooted. Congrats
13. Make sure that SuperUser app is installed.
14. This is an Optional Step. You now don’t need GingerBreak on your smartphone. You can uninstall it if you want.
Please note that the apk is still in progress and you can experience some bugs with this as it’s just the second version of apk and likely need some modifications. The developer fixed some of the reported issues in first version but still it can be erroneous.
The users who have tried this method confirm it to working on Nexus One, Nexus S, LG Vortex, Sony Ericsson Arc, Galaxy S II etc. But do it at your own risk. We won’t be responsible for any damage to your devices.
The gingerbreak exploit was patched before 2.3.3 hit our phones.
So, unless they found away around that, this won't work.

1.you have to find a stock ROM for your phone take a look at this thread
now you have to edit it and flash back using Odin but this is not very easy
better is to flash a custom ROM this is debranded for sure
a list of ROMs for your phone
you have to be sure your phone is Galaxy Ace s5830 and not s5830i
never flash ROMs not made for your phone possible hardware failure !
2.the second way is to root your phone and manually edit options
(change wallpaper/bootanimation/ delete some apps etc )
if so root/unroot phone from this link or better use a program named SuperOneClick
rooting will allow to remove protections so you can delete/uninstall some protected apps
to delete an app just delete corresponding .apk file
remember that never delete system .apk in /system or browser.apk framework-res.apk
in fact do not touch anything you know nothing about
remember that you lose warranty !
NEED HELP ROOTING! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
So i have the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710.14) and i want to root it. But! There is no root that i have so far for 4.1.1 jelly bean. Every root i have tried has not been accepted by the phone and so im still stock.
Please help!! CWM Super user 3.0.7 doesnt work for me with rooting. Clock work recovery, nothing. No root. (Checked with root checker.) I want to root! please help me?
The process to root Jelly Bean is the same as it was for ICS. I used the Team Epic Root From Recovery method and it is super easy.
Make sure that you do the battery pull and boot into recovery after flashing CWM from Odin so that you can flash the Team Epic root file.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Lol
For others: you can also try this if you don't want to trip your flash counter. It worked for me.

I got an S3 a while back (sprint sph-l710) and I tried to root it and I had troubles so I am a bit sensitive to try it again.
I've read the first post and a couple of the last but didn't want to read all 11 pages...can someone let me know what is the most reliable method to root a phone using android 4.1.1 and without tripping the flash counter? I want to have the root access to make changes I want but I'd like to modify it as little as possible to get there.
I've also read one post that suggests to wipe phone first. I didn't understand what this would do. Is it necessary?
Last, is there any type of backup I can do before starting the root process so that I can revert JIC I have troubles again?
Thanks.

That will give a custom recovery too. They want root with little changes elsewhere. Didn't see you didnt want to trip the counter(although its easily reset). To root without tripping go here no wipe needed and wont change recovery. To unroot just flash the unrooted version in the same place

Thanks everyone, I ended up using this method since resetting the counter is easy. Was done in ~20 seconds. Will any root keeper do?
Now will the root access allow me to use a sprint hot spot or turn off that annoying camera sound? Or would I need to go to the next step with my phone and installing software?

There was a thread floating around somewhere about how to remove the camera sound, I believe it involved simply renaming the .ogg file
As for the hotspot, check out Wifi Tether for root users, its in the Play Store and you can also get it from their google code page. This app does not warn your carrier that you are tethering, I've used it on multiple devices including the Evo shift 4G and Evo 4G on Sprint

The native sprint hotspot hasn't been hacked yet but you can add a shutter sound toggle to the camera by changing a line in the feature.xml file located in system/csc

The shutter sound option is cooked into many roms if you plan on going down that path. Also check out the morphology thread in the themes and apps section for a lot of options.
I have a Sprint GS3 that I purchased from ebay. I have unlocked it, and is now operating on the nTelos network. The phone is running the leaked MC3 stock and rooted by Freeza. I would like to get rid of all the Sprint references on the screens, such as the top of the lockscreen.
Does anybody know a way to do this? I am not allergic to de-compiling the framework, if that is where I need to do it. At this point, I have no idea where to even start looking for it.
I did manage to get rid of the Sprint boot animation by flashing Freeza's optimized stock kernel, but the Sprint shutdown animation is still there. I would also like to get rid of this too.
Thanks!

To get rid of shutdown animation use a root explorer and go to system/media/video/shutdown and delete the contents in there.... to get rid of Sprint references use that same root explorer and navigate to /data and find the file eri.xml, open that (no need to decompile, everything can be done directly from the phone) and change everywhere you see Sprint to whatever you want :thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you flastnoles11. Your advice did allow me to remove the shutdown animation (via a rename and not a delete) but I do not seem to have the /data/eri.xml file. At least not in the root of /data. Where else might it be?

First off, I have looked around for a half a day already on this for my youngest daughter. The Sprint S4 mini is on 4.2.2 and seems like SSU.apk unlock the phone fine.
Only problem is there is nowhere to change the APN settings to get the phone to work with a Verizon card. Are my only options using a ROM to get to these settings. Have not rooted it yet or even looked into that. Just trying to get it to work as a phone.
Please help before my head f-ing head explodes. I hate asking for help.
You can use apn app on google play. I can not unlock my s4 mini sprint.
Thanks for the suggesting, I was also thinking about that as well. Only problem is there is so many of them and the few that I've tried had no luck or wanted me to use the pro version. I have no problem buying a pro version, just weary cause they seem sketchy at best.
Rooted the phone using Kango, so if anyone has a suggestion on a solid app to do this please mention it.
Thanks again for the suggestion buddy.
Honestly at this point I just need to edit the apn.xml file to the correct data and whatever other files I need to change to get this to work.
I know how to edit the file using ES Explorer just not the values and what I need to do to make it take on boot.
I'm so close I can taste it lol. Even if someone could up their Verizon apns-conf.xml file would help.
found is System\etc\
thanks for reading. Also where is apps/common/res/apns.xml --> (can't find this file)
