Flash to cricket - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to use my evo on cricket and I just want to walk in and have them flash it over, what I'm really asking is do I need it to be on stock software, and have the stock recovery? Or can I just be on aosp and it doesn't matter for them?
Thanks in advance

Been asked and answered, but you'll need a Sense ROM, stock or otherwise. I did my flashing myself but used QPST. You need a Sense ROM with EPST and Diag for fine tuning and to update prl. Cricket really doesn't care, as long as Sense, but be forewarned, if you have an evo/android, be prepped to pay the Android price.

I had it flashed correctly but now im wondering if i can flash a cricket rom for the evo now that is not sense, or if it will wipe what they did at the cricket store.....like this rom for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124527
thanks in advance

Make a copy of your current APN settings using APN backup and restore from the market and then make a nandroid backup of your entire current setup before you move on. Just in case. It should work, but I can't confirm APN and Data are fully functional without an app like greenk45, since when I did run that on my phone, I didn't have MMS or Data.

thanks for the info, it has been helpful...ill try soon....so am i free to flash any sense based ROM or does it have to be cricket based to work properly, i had them flash it while it was on digitalKarma, and everything works properly now

Most any ROM should work fine, but there are a few that may bring issues. Mms is a minor issue across the board. Just so long as you keep a backup of DK so you always have that to fall back on.

Hey I use cricket and have flashed several og evo's and evo 3d's. You can run any rom that is out. These so called cricket roms if you can find one with a working link are really no different than any other rom. You can have full data and mms on any rom you want to use from froyo all the way up to jellybean 4.2.2. The thing is you have to know what needs to be changed. I have never had to do anything to get data working it always works but mms is a little bit of a different story. I have never used this greenk45 or even heard of it until now. I would say that out of all the roms on this forum and a couple others I have flashed and used all but maybe five. Each version of android seems to need slightly different changes to make your mms work but I have been able to do it with all the roms. If you want you can pm me and I will be more than willing to give you any help you need. Heck maybe one of these day I will get off my lazy butt and do a complete guide to flashing roms cricket style. Until then I am always willing to help out anyone willing to ask for the help.

Yeah. Sorry, greenk45 is a proxy hack for some cricket users. It is what I had to use when I had data. But then again, I was on a $25 plan. On the note2, I had cricket flash it, so it's different now.

[Q] EVO 4g already flashed to cricket *all works* just a few questions

Lot of info here.....
i just had a couple of quick questions.
I have a evo 4g flashed to cricket using a ROM which i think is a STOCK rom
My phone was flashed by a friend of a friend, everything works, but i know i can do it myself with the help of this community. I wanted to know IF i decide to install a custom ROM what info will be needed?
IF i do attempt to install a custom ROM are there some files on the phone i need to keep? or i can i just install the rom and it will work, being that my phone has already been modified with QPST and CDMA workshop or will i have to do that part of the config over again.
The main thing i think that kept my phone from working last time was the QPST/CDMA workshop stuff. it seems complicated to me. when you start getting into APN MEID MSN XML PRI PRL Kernel files, i get lost.
Is there somewhere on here that i can get a complete explanation without having to piece it together from hundreds of posts. Ideally i would like to be able to feel confident that i know what im doing.
This community is great and i really appreciate all the time and effort that you guys put into helping us newbies.
Mentat
You can flash whatever roms you want. Older roms had problems with MMS and Cricket but it seems to be pretty much straightened out now. With any rom you are going to need to configure your APN settings for Cricket in order to get MMS working (as Evo roms are typically intended for Sprint and have Sprint APN settings as such)
WOW, didnt expect you to reply. Thanks. what settings do i need to reconfig, IF i do this myself? will i have to do anything with xml files, qpst, cdma workshop? This is the problem i had last time. I do not really know what needs to be changed once i put a new rom on my phone. Could you provide me with a list of things TODO after the rom is
flashed?
qpst/cdma workshop are where i get scared.
In most all modern Sense roms (the 2.1+3.0 hybrids like MikG for example) you simply need to go into the Messaging app and edit the settings under MMS. Change the size limit to something that is 500K or less (Cricket has a sending limit over 500k it seems) and then edit the connection settings by changing them to the following:
name: internet
mmsc: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
mms proxy: wap.mycricket.com
mms port : 8080
mms protocol: wap 2.0
You don't have to import an APN xml file like I used to have to do in 2.2 roms and with Jiminy
I've still never been able to get MMS working under any AOSP roms like CM6 and CM7, even when I do edit the APN settings (my last try was a couple months ago though, so maybe its been sorted since)
so if i flash over a new rom like Jiminy V do i have to re-edit anything through QPST or CDMA workshop? or do i just flash, config MMS stuff and thats it?
No I would advise against flashing Jiminy now honestly, it's old news.
I said Jiminy WOULD require some extra effort like importing an APN xml file
Jiminy is still based on 2.2. I would go ahead and use something like MikG or Synergy at this point.
Regardless of the rom, you don't ever need to do anything with QPST or CDMA workshop. That work is already done and independent of the rom you flash
I guess I've given up maintaining Jiminy at this point. Consider MikG to be the new go to rom if you're on Cricket. It works perfectly once you configure the APN through the messaging app.
Im running a stock rom and its all working, i want to try some diff roms out, but i do not want to break anything.
But i am still unclear if ill have to do anything through QPST or CDMA workshop. Just flash rom over and make some changes to MMS or are there other settings to change?

see, apparently even stock roms work fine now. When I first started making Jiminy a stock Evo rom could not do MMS, it took some trickery. Later stock roms appeared to have cleared this issue up.
you got a good link to the mikG rom? Also how will the new rom know what my phone number and other info is?

[Q] Incredible to PagePlus - CM9-7

Mu Verizon contract is up on the 28th and I'm going to flash and switch to PagePlus.
My question is this; After the flash, can I install CM7 or CM9? I was told by a flasher that this was not possible.
Hi, I'm a Page Plus customer, dinc user, and a recovering ROM flashing addict.
First off, what are you 'flashing' to switch to Page Plus? You just need to dial *22890 to program it, after the ESN is activated on Page Plus.
And really, you can flash whatever ROM you want. If it works on Verizon, it'll work on Page Plus. Of course the usual rules about being rooted, etc. apply... I've used MIUI gb, MIUI ics, AOKP ics, Evervolv ics, and am currently running Ice Cream Senseless because I got tired of the camera issues on the ics roms.
The only thing you need to remember is that you need to use Page Plus's codes when doing OTA programming and PRL updates. It's *22890 to program/activate the phone on Page Plus, and *22891 to update the PRL.
Happy flashing!
Many thanks
Thank you.!!!
Phone flashing
I know this is really late but hopefully it will help others.
When you get your phone flashed you will more then likely have to be on a stock rom. This is from experience as I am a Page Plus dealer. Many roms do not support either the codes, or the drivers to allow your phones modem to connect with a pc to allow flashing.
Once your flashed to the carrier, you can use whatever rom you want. Keep in mind though that depending on what rom you use, they may access the raidos diffrently and your 3g data may or may not work. You may have to use a stock rom of try several roms before you find a reliable one.
Just a heads up in case someone didnt know, before you switch carriers and get all pissed with support.....aka someone like me.
If I am wrong about this please correct me and teach me a new way because I would really like to be able to flash more cm9 phones with out reverting them to stock first. ( just to save time. ) So far the major culprit are motorola phones.

Flashing to Alltel or Cricket

Hey guys. I've been doing a bit of searching and have only been confused! I have an Evo4G from Sprint and I want to flash it over to be used on either Alltel or Cricket.
I say Alltel or Cricket, because from what i've been reading, there are alot of problems switching these phones to alltel..So i'm looking for suggestions from you guys as far as which to flash. Either will be fine, I just want whichever will work best.
Also, I have found a lot of information about PRL's..But i'm still confused as how to flash to one of these services. The phone is already rooted and running ICS (4.0.3)
So please guys, any information will be greatly appreciated! I'm doing this for a friend and was suppose to have it done by tomorrow, but i've been having so much trouble. I've never done anything like this on a CDMA network. I can normally unlock a phone and pop a sim card into it. I know from reading that I will have to flash some alltel files to it..I'm just having issues finding the correct files and a working guide.
Oh and in case location matters, (if i'm not mistaken other carriers own alltel in certain areas,) i'm in Western North Carolina
Here is the guide I use. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934417
You will use qspt to flash the prl to your phone. You will need to be on a Sense 1.0 rom, or a Sense rom that has ##codes working.
As for MMS, I have never been able to get it to work, with new apns, gosms or any other way that's on the net. However I did find a solution that costs $5, and it works. Lemme see if I can find it again.
Thanks. I'm going to try it now.
Interesting........I'll have to check that guide out

you can use pretty much any modern Sense rom. Sense 3.0 and below seem to be best with getting MMS to work. Haven't made it work with Sense 3.5+ or any AOSP roms yet.

[Q] CSpire GS3 SCH-L710 rom???

Hey guys
CSpire Wireless formerly Cellular South has finally released their Galaxy S3. The model number is SCH-L710. The reason I am asking this question here and not in a different carriers forum is the L710 in model number. I don't pretend to understand why certain carriers GS3's are labeled with different model numbers, but I thought that since your GS3 and mine both have L710 I thought that possibly the hardware was closer to the same than say verizon's which is a completely different model designation. That being said I am desperate for a custom rom but don't wanna just go flashing any GS3 roms out there to see if any will work on my network. I would feel more comfortable knowing that I had a way to odin flash a stock rom in case any problems arise. Anyway if someone is kind enough and generous enough to help me locate a stock odin flashable rom, then I would be willing to help in any way I can to find a usable rom or port for my version of this great phone.
Thank you so much in advance
I went ahead and flashed the latest CM10 nightly for the Sprint version. Everything seems to be fine, except for data. I still have data, but it is very flaky and won't hardly hold a signal. I suspect it to be the PRL or CM itself.
We definitely need a stock rom for CSpire. I am willing to help any way I can.

Good luck finding that. Cspire keeps things like that unattainable. Unless *228 will work properly to update prl. Should anyone come across it please let me know. Bout to flash CM10
What about using QPST or something to pull the PRL off of a stock device? Can we get someone to do this before flashing any ROMs?
Okay. First of all, I didn't think to look at the PRL before I went and flashed the Sprint CM10. But now it says 20005. I restored my nandroid backup and pulled this PRL from my phone with QPST 2.7.374. In DFS Tool, I noticed there was a CSpire PRL 10009. I wrote this PRL to the Phone and am getting much better service on the stock TW ROM.
HOWEVER, I flashed the Sprint CM10 again and the same thing happened. It says PRL 10009, but there is little to no service and when it does have a little service, it is very flaky and eventually ends up with no data connection at all. Any more suggestions or ideas?

qpst still says no phone under the phone column no matter what i try
So far, this is what I have done:
First I used the following tool to download drivers for my phone and root ( via option 4 in the program).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746680
I used CWM to make a nandroid backup.
Next, I flashed the latest CM nightly for the Sprint version here:
http://get.cm/?device=d2spr
After doing this, everything worked fine, EXCEPT for data. I dialed *228 and let it do its thing. I actually had data, but the signal was extremely weak and very flaky. After messing with settings it would usually drop it altogether.
I restored my nandroid backup and noticed that although I had data, it seemed to be weaker than before ( although that may just be me).
I decided to follow the following guide on how to get the PRL from the phone:
http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-m/419514-how-get-prl-off-your-phone.html
The version of QPST on that post was outdated, so I found and used QPST 2.7.374, which I posted a link to earlier in the thread.
I managed to copy the 20005 PRL off of my phone and saved it.
I then started up DFS Tool and wrote the CSpire 10009 PRL to my phone.
I get much better service on the stock ROM, but the Sprint CM builds still do the same thing. No data.
UPDATE: I did a *228 to get back on the 20005 PRL and it is working just as well as the 10009 PRL now.
Also, as OBSt4l0n discovered, there's simultaneous voice and data. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this or if this was happening before flashing roms
and PRL's.
Okay. We no longer believe it's the PRL causing the problems. More info to come. May be slower over the weekend with weekend stuff and all.

Out of curiosity, Could it be the APN's causing the issues? And from what I've seen the vzw variant seems closer to the cspire. but its hard to say. Just to try and eliminate possible causes, I would reccomend flashing this here and see if you get the same issues. http://goo-inside.me/devs/aokp/d2vzw/aokp_d2vzw_jb_build-4.zip Its AOKP for the vzw variant. I have used it as my daily driver for the past week and I'm on Sprint. Dont have to change anything in it, just flash.
Just my 2 cents

Just tried this and still no data. We need a dev to look into this. Apparently there is something internal in code stopping our radio from functioning properly. I have attempted to pull my RIL file and insert it in cm10 then rebooting and no luck. Still no data. Any devs out there willing to look into this for us?

4G LTE after rooting

Hello
I have an international version of the HTC one m8, specifically the ones in Asia. Before rooting and/or applying a custom rom, I used to have 4G capabilities but now the phone just refuses to connect to the 4G network. My 3G works fine with normal speeds as per before, I have applied a custon rom and a kernel and I am s-off so I couldn't have tempered with the radio. Please help as this is affecting me and wasting the capabilities of such an amazing phone.
thanks in advance

I think you mean you are s-on. If you were s-off, that would mean you can tamper with the radio partition.
In any case, flashing a ROM or kernel won't "typically" affect LTE. But certain ROMs don't play well with some networks as reported by some folks (Euro ROMs + US AT&T network is the one example I can think of).
But before we get needlessly complex, did you check your APN?

oops sorry yes I meant s-on. I have checked my apn, matched it with online the website of my carrier. I am currently in Singapore and I am running ARHD for my phone now. The rom was flashed was the international version that I got from the xda thread. Other than the 4G problem, the phone works fine and as mentioned my 3G still works fine.

You might flash another ROM to see if it has any effect on LTE. I'm also guessing that returning to the stock ROM for your version will also get LTE back.

Is there no way for me to keep my current rom and perhaps edit or flash some form of file. If I were to switch a rom it would really be a pain to transfer all of my data too, would you recommend any apps or procedures. Im currently using titanium backup only. Thanks for the help too.

I don't actually now exactly what is causing you to have lost LTE, so therefore its impossible to know specifically what to edit or change.

Couple thoughts/suggestions:
1) If you flash a ROM of the same "base" (i.e. Lollipop Sense) you might be able to get away with a "dirty flash" meaning you keep user data, and just wipe cache and Dalvik before you flash. But if you run into some random issues, you may need to wipe user data.
2) You can make a nandroid in TWRP of your current setup. Than if you try a new ROM and it doesn't help the LTE issue, you can just restore the nandroid and revert to where you are now, with all the same user data.
3) To migrate data between ROMs, I just use Titanium Backup myself (with the Pro key to enable batch functions). Everyone's setup is different. But for me, I keep my contacts and email on Gmail. Than I just backup my apps, app data, and text messages on Titanium. So when moving to a new ROM (after wiping user data) I batch restore apps with Titanium, and just manually setup the home screens and Settings. Takes me maybe 20-30 minutes tops. May take folks longer if they have a lot of customized settings (lots of WiFi networks, Bluetooth devices, etc.) but I think even some of those things can be backed up by various methods, as well.
Wiping user data is basically just a necessary evil if you want to flash ROMs with any degree of frequency, IMO. Its nice when you can dirty flash, but I never outright count on it.
