Power Button - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Okay so I have a cracked screen and I was going to fix it but the top left screw won't come out, nor will the bottom right. So I put all the screws back in, and now my power button isn't working. The second I put the battery in the phone turns on by itself. Yet, when I try to turn the screen off or on using it, it does nothing. What do I do?! I don't want to keep my screen on forever, and I don't want to keep taking my battery out. No, I don't have insurance either... so idk what to do can someone please help.

I never got to the bottom of this. My screen will turn on after I get a txt or the alarm clock rings.

Those are proscribed behaviors... The phone is supposed to do that unless you dl a mod. I think freeza did a mod for the messaging notifications....

Hope I'm not thread jacking. But they turn on and never turn back off. So if I don't put my phone on the charger at night and then I get a txt, the screen stays on and drains. Or if I snooze in the morning and pass back out, the screen stays on.

Wake locks! Use better battery stats to tell you what the offending app is.

I'm actually having this issue. Phone will stay on and won't go into sleep. Touch key light duration is set to 1.5 seconds but this stays on as well. And I'm having to reset the phone every time this happens. Could anyone direct me to resolving this issue?
Use better batteey atats to find the app keeping it awake, and uninstall.

Help please!

So earlier today I was using my phone in class when it suddenly shuts off. It shutting off was normal to me so like always, I take the battery out and put it back in. It turns back on gets to one of the loading screens and shuts off. My phone keeps vibrating while it's off so I don't think it could be the battery. Occasionally if I'm lucky, it would fully load to the point where I could use it but then shuts off and the whole process repeats again. I'm using the juggernaut rom if that helps.
Any ideas?
Odin back to stock and root your device and restore to your previous ROM if u have a backup of that ROM on your phone

I didn't have it in in the video and I tried it too, it doesn't do/change anything. I can get into download mode for literally a second and then the same thing just happens, it turns off and the little vibrating continues and remains in that state until I remove the battery and put it back in.

Sounds like it could be a stuck power button...at least as I've read other descriptions of similar symptoms. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931310

[Q] Phone misbehaving (charging and not shutting off)

Hi there,
having issues with my Galaxy note 2.
The first one is that when I try to switch it off, it goes in the whole sequence, vibrates as if it's turned off but soon after it's already booting. The blue indicator light stays on.
Second issue is that it is not charging when turned off. I have left it for about 2 hours and nothing happened. Turned it on and now it's charging ok. Also, I see that when I turn on the screen the red light (indicating that it's in charge) switches off and not always comes back on when I switch the screen off (from the power button).
I rooted it but it doesn't seem to be rooted when checking with app from play store. I can't update it as when I try it says I've modified the software so it's not possible..
Any ideas? it's still in warranty so might send it back but I thought if I could sort things out myself it might be better than waiting for 2weeks to have it back..
Thanks,
unlocated

[Q] Loop Issue

All right. I just received a Samsung Galaxy S2 T-Mobile (White) from a friend.
It doesn't boot up to the Stock Android. It's not rooted it's completely stock.
When you start it up it just goes to the Samsung Logo Screen then into a Samsung Android 4G screen in which the loading bar gets a lil over halfway and it just turns off and restarts the process. I'm not sure whether it's the power button issue i've been seeing in the past. Or if it's something wrong with the motherboard power button area.
I am also providing a video I recorded just to see what happens when I put the battery inside an then press the power button.
I was wondering if anyone could give me any things to try to fix it or a possible solution as I would like to fix this issue and root the phone.
http://youtu.be/Ud4bb12gARw
Youtube of putting battery in and powering up.. An how the boot goes.
Is it constantly vibrating in your hand as it reboots? If so then most likely it's the power button
You could try circling around the power button with a pin. Blow it out then hit it with an eraser (or any large rubber item). That worked for me,

There are a couple of things you can try here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931310

Proximity sensor and phonecalls.

Why when I press dial the screen turns off right away? The screen should only turn off when I put it next to my ear. It's very annoying when I'm dialing automated systems and need to use the keypad because if I manually turn the screen back on and then put it next to my ear to talk the screen doesn't turn off and I end up accidentally pushing buttons.
On an iphone the screen remains on and only turns of when put next to my ear, and turns right back on when pulled away from an ear. Is there a way to duplicate this behavior on GS4?
Go to settings/My device/call settings and select turn off screen during calls. That should do it.

Thanks, the screen doesn't turn off anymore but it also stays on when I put it next to my ear... I don't get why Samsung can't get a basic function like that right.

In your original post you forgot to let us know what exact rom you are using.
It would be very helpful to know that and other specifics before offering any suggestions.
Good luck!
Well, I tried this on a stock rom with the same result. Are you saying it works for you?

Download an app from the android market (its free) called AndroSensor and see if that app is saying the proximity sensor is blocked. You might have a spec of dirt causing it to always return that its blocked. Read other threads with same issue, and in the one thread, the guy at T-Mobile took a can of compressed air and blasted out the earpiece and it fixed it.
I downloaded the app and proximity sensor does not show any reading all the other functions have a graph next to them but not the sensor. Does this mean it's broken? And if it is broken does tmobile exchange the phone or do I have to send it back to Samsung?

It's definitely a hardware issue which should be covered. You just gotta make sure you get it back to stock and reset your counter with triangle away.

Agreed. Definitely hardware. Your sensor is reporting that the sensor is never covered and always open. Use that app and a test call to show the Rep at T-Mobile.
