So I just recently lost my root I made a thread here it was fixed in a couple days due to you guys . Maybe you can help me with another issue I am currently having.
So let me get started, I really wanted to update my software and since I was rooted I was not able to do it, when I temp unrooted I still was not able to get software update, It was really bothersum so I found a program called "Mobile ODIN Pro" and with that I went to the links below just take out the (DOTCOM).
http://www.sammobile(DOTCOM)/firmwares/
http://www.youtube(DOTCOM)/watch?v=T-KLM2oqSgM
With those links there is only one thing I did not do in that video, He said I need to Wipe data and cache, I did not check mark that because why don't I just factory reset instead? I did select Wipe Dalvik Cache though. Now it seems my phone is a tad laggy, and some of my apps give me that "so and so app has crashed. hit report or ok, So I deleted the apps, and now when I try to redownload the apps it either asks me to delete some stuff first to navigate, so that tells me some of the program is still there but I'm not able to find it, Another issue with that is it says insufficient disck space to download that app even when I have many GIGS of free space...
I'm wondering if I should just do a factory reset re-root my phone start from complete scratch, I would like to be able to used pandora, google chrome, etc etc. Which programs would you guys suggest for me to download to backup my apps/settings for the apps I know are not corrupted? And or if you know of a fix.
Factory reset , wipe caches. 're Odin ..I told you in your other thread what to download and flash . you will use Odin on your pc or mobile Odin on your phone. Now download Mr Robinson's no trip root. From here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560... download Odin (for pc) from here... http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390275921635705049.. I told you use this method before, because it's stock mb4 (prerooted and doesn't trip your flash counter)
I'm not trying to be hard on you. But you need to know how to do basic things(getting into recovery) before you go messing with your phone......... if you need help you can pm me.

Everytime I try updating my phone OTA it starts and then it fails by showing a picture of a phone and a question mark above it. My phone is rooted I rooted it following a video on youtube by zedomax. But I guess it didnt work after I went through everything so then I use unrevoked and it worked. Unfortunately I been getting a lot of sd card errors so I really need this update. Someone please assist me in this.
You can't update a rooted phone using the downloaded OTA. You'll need to apply the rooted update.zip found in the upgrades forum for 1.32.651.6. Flash that in recovery and you'll have the latest ROM with root.
Thanks so much you really assisted me in upgrading my phone. If anyone else has the problem I did here is what I did. I downloaded the zip file from here a post by flipzmode. Just search the firmware thats what I did.
After I downloaded the file I placed the zip file in the root of my memory stick and I turned off my phone and turned it back on while holding the volume down button first then the lock button on the top. Once in the bootloader menu I went to recovery and the exclamation mark in the triangle showed up then I ran recovery-windows.bat and then I flashed the phone from my sd card and selected the new firmware.
Hi, do you have to reinstall all your apps and reconfigure the phone again? I rooted my phone, and I am not seeing any issues with the SD card. But I would hate to reconfigure all over again!! Please let me know.
Thanks.

Unless you have Titanium backup, you have to reinstall everything if you flash any roms. Try switching to wifi, go to your market, and into the downloads section. You may get lucky, and the apps that you have downloaded will be there, but you have to download them again. Being in wifi will speed up the download process.
Thanks for the info.
I use appbrain, which is pretty cool to create a backup of your apps. But even with that, you still have to install, and the worst part is configuring apps (user name and password) and also configuring my scene in EVO (folders, widgets, etc...) I have done this process 2 times and to do it one more time would be a pain. I am thinking if I have to do this everytime I need to update, might as well go unrooted. The only reason i went to root was to delete some annoying apps and to run wifi tethering. I rather leave with those two drawbacks than reconfiguring my EVO all the time when a new update is out.
I tried to fix the google play store error by using the steps provided online (that seemed to work for most people) and now my phone will not boot past the initial galaxy screen. The screen goes blank and then I see a solid blue LED light at the top left of the phone.
I would like to know if backing up files at this point is possible, because I'm assuming the only true fix is a factory reset.
I was told that android has a built in fail-safe that would still allow me to access the files through a PC via USB. That has not worked for me. My computer shows nothing. I wonder if there is a way to reinstall just the android operating system (much like you would do with a windows pc) so that no files are erased and just the OS is reinstalled.
I've tried booting in safe mode, tapping the menu button doesn't do anything.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated. I'm ok with performing a factory reset, I'd just like to back up images and audio files before doing so.
Thanks

What play store error were you trying to fix and what exactly did you do to try and fix it?
It sure sounds like you've managed to wipe the internal memory clean. If so your only hope is to use Odin to restore it back to stock. If it works it'll work great but you will lose everything on the phone. Though again it really sounds like you have nothing on the phone.
The only other thing to try would be using Odin to flash a recovery. Then boot into recovery and see if you can back up the data partition. If that works you can use the recovery to reinstall a ROM.
Do people not do nandroid backup anymore?
☞ Sent from here☜???
The error I kept getting said "insufficient storage space available."
I had over 3 gigs of space left on my phone's internal memory.
I tried all of the obvious stuff before even seeking help online (clearing cache, making sure the system memory wasnt taken up).
Anytime my phone would attempt to update an app it would fail and remove the app entirely. Amazon Mobile was the first to go. It's only a 5Mb app and it said I didn't have enough storage space...yet I could download a 100Mb app I didn't already have and it would work fine.
I tried online suggestions like removing my google account from my phone, reverting the app store back to the stock version, re-adding the google account, then rebooting, and then my phone stopped working.
I'm pretty sure I know exactly what caused my phone not to be able to boot anymore though. Some people online had success using a google play store market fix app that is on the play store itself (not some sketchy site no one's ever heard of). I tried that, then when I rebooted it seems like my phone was bricked. A lot of people had said that app worked for their GS4's.
Any suggestions? I wish I could just reinstall android, get the files, then restore to factory conditions (if necessary).
I still have no idea what this problem is that you were trying to fix. I have never heard of this.
Still, using Odin to restore your phone to stock will work. Just flash the .tar file in Odin and it will be like you just took the phone out of the box.

The number error that came up with apps failed to update was error 923, which is a pretty common one people had trouble with. I tried every solution I could find, and this is what happened
I wanna help you. I really do. But I can't do anything without knowing the step by step details of what you did to get to this point.
Without that info there is no way to help you back out of thsi without a full wipe. So you are stuck with using Odin to do a full restore.

The step by step details of what I did are a couple posts back (I tried online suggestions like removing my google account from my phone, reverting the app store back to the stock version, re-adding the google account, then rebooting, and then my phone stopped working).
After that I tried a couple of the apps on the google play store that are supposed to be 1 click fixes for the google play store update error. That was my mistake. A lot of people had success with those 1 click fixes, but thats what I believe bricked my phone. I would tell you which app specifically but I can't access my phone (obviously) and they won't come up on the PC version of Google Play search.
Thank you for your desire to help. Is there any other method of communication we could use that might be more efficient for me to be able to answer your questions? IM or fbook chat or something?

I just gave up and wiped all data. I gotta have a working phone for work tomorrow. Trying to download the stock firmware for a full restore. It's taking FOREVER.
Revert to stock : Complete
Hate that I lost everything, but I shoulda been more responsible with backup in the first place. I am with my computers, typically am with my phone, but I was foolish enough to wait until I could get a great deal on a high capacity micro SD card...silly silly me.
I received the notification to update this morning to 4.4, however the update started to apply, it kicked it out with a suspected root error. Before applying the update, I had already uninstalled Xposed and unrooted my phone, so I am not sure what set off the root checker. I was wondering what my options were at this point. I know I can flash back to stock, but I would like to avoid this if at all possible. Are there any alternatives, or will I be forced to flash back to stock?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm having exactly the same issue. I used the one click root method and have unrooted using full unroot in SuperSu.
But it appears full unroot per SuperSu is not enough? I tried root checker in Play Store and it says I am not rooted.
When I run the install it takes a long time to download and gave 0x13e error after the reboot while upgrading.
I also tried the LG PC Suite but it says my phone has the most current version, that is weird...
This OTA seems to be very picky as I was able to update in January 2014 fully rooted....
I wonder if I need to flash the IOT and go through the hassle of reinstalling all apps and config....that's a lot of hassle...

It is very strange but if I try update recovery it says my battery does not have enough charge. (but battery is at 100%).
I even bought a new battery. I did disable carrier iq spying service before I unroot.
Do I have to enable carrier iq spy in order to upgrade?

Your phone needs to be 100% stock in order for OTA updates to work. This means:
no custom recovery (CWM, TWRP, etc)
all bloatware must be present
you can't be rooted
all system services must be like stock (this includes carrier IQ, so yes, it needs to be reenabled).
If you can't get the OTA to update after fixing everything, try flashing this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760895
This IS the ATT stock ROM, but mildly debloated. The creator only debloated things that could be installed via the Play Store though (like Google Music, Newstand, Books, etc), so there isn't anything like the remote app or something missing.
I flashed this version because I'm too lazy to try and return my phone to pure stock just to get the OTA and then have to reflash root and a custom recovery. Too much work for me.
EDIT: I'm not too sure what's going on with your recovery... I hope someone else can answer that for you.
The easiest thing to do is just flash the 4.4.2 Rom found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760895
This route saves allot of time having to flash back to pure stock, wait for your phone to receive the update again, and your phone taking forever to download said update.

Thanks a lot. This is my wife's phone so she'd rather not to update if a data wipe is required. She's actually quite happy with 4.1.
Anything extra would only be a "good to have". I think I'll keep it on 4.1 until she switches to another phone.
I did download the slightly customized stock rom so that it could be updated in the future.
In fact, I still have stock recovery and the only reason I rooted was to disable carrier iq because it was doing funny things with the GPS, very annoying.
There is no other way to disable carrier iq without rooting...unfortunately...

If you flash that ROM over her current stock ROM, it should act just like an OTA update and replace the JB OS with the KK OS. It should also replace JB version Google apps with KK ones too.
If you decide to do this, you will need to do 3 things:
1) Make a backup just in case, but then copy the backup to your PC
2) Backup the internal SD to a PC and then format the internal storage. (see *2 below as to why)
3) After the flash, you will need to install the apk from the following thread and use it to install a Kitkat compatible CWM. If you don't while in recovery at any time, you may get stuck in what's called the Recovery Bootloop. Basically, every time you try to reboot the phone into the system (whether from a powered off state or from recovery), you will always go back to recovery.
The only bad thing about this recovery is that it can't read external SD cards, so anything you want to flash/backup will need to be stored on internal storage.
*2) Kitkat uses a different directory system for internal storage. If you were to not wipe the internal SD and managed to get the OTA working, it would wipe the drive for you automatically (which means all your data would be gone!).
However, with this flashable stock ROM, what will happen instead, is that all your data will remain, but will be hidden from view/access. If you have root, you can get it and move it, but it's a pain. Otherwise, your files are hidden from you, yet the system reads X amount of your internal storage as being occupied by "Miscellaneous" files, yet shows that nothing is there.
So just backup the files, then format the internal storage (which will leave her apps alone) before updating. Then flash that ROM and then copy the files back over.
All this is up to you and your wife as to whether or not you deem it to be worth the effort.
hey guys im here again with another question about this crap variant of the S3 -.- (personal feelings its so hard to do anything on this device and there is little information about this phone)
anyway my google apps are not working AT all. i had my phone rooted and i used lucky patcher to patch my google play store for INapp and INlvl purchases and installed a modified play store. around the same time i used a game hacking app called freedom.apk and i read that u had to combine that with market unlocker.apk... it worked out for a bit and everything was fiine then i uninstalled freedom.apk and marketunlocker.apk and then ALL my google apps suddenly stopped working. i have unrooted and factory reset my phone but its still having issues with ALL the gapps saying there is a network error and they can not connect to the server and my wifi settings are not the issue i have checked them over many times.
i also must say because i think the issue lies here.
i was messing around with lucky patcher and tried to modified Arcane legends and i put it as a system app on accident and i forgot to move it back before i reset the phone (i honestly didnt know i did that until after the reset) well after the reset its still on my phone (ive factory reset the phone multiple times unless im not doing it right but im pretty sure i am)
a budy of mine told after i patched the play store im supposed to do other steps that i didnt know but idk im stumped and ive finally decided to ask for help
please any help on this issue is much appreciated i cant even recover my contacts now or anything cuz they are all saved to google -.-...
UPDATED:
i found out how to fix this issue. i had completely forgotten that i had used an ad-blocker on lucky patcher. when i disabled it after re-downloading the app i was able to download all the gaaps and stuff again and recover my stuff from google.

First don't say you use apps to get paid apps for free cause you will be shunned...now in this instance i'm glad you mentioned it cause now we can clear up those apps you mentioned.....right now most apps work against those hack apps so you won't be able to get free paid apps or in app purchases. That being said never combine freedom.apk and marketunlocker.apk that's a definite no no it will cause problems. If you move apps to the system and you factory reset those apps won't disappear cause a normal factory reset in recovery doesn't delete system files and LuckyPatcher.apk will break most apps if you don't know what you're changing.
Now either if your in PhilZ recovery do a full wipe clean install about 4 times then reinstall the rom/backup before everything went to ****
--OR--
Odin back to Stock and redo everything from scratch, i know longer process but this is the only other option.

im honestly having trouble re routing my phone after the wipe ... i noticed tho my previous root was also kinda glitchy some apps i had wouldn't recognize root permission n stuff... i used the srsroot program for windows i think u comented on my last post i did about it. anyway if u could clear it up for me if i flash the CF-auto-root file for the SPH-l710 will it work ive read some peoples it does some it doesn't.
when i did research on freedom i came across some stuff that said to combine it with market unlocker because freedom didnt work in the states or something. and then after i uninstalled it i read people having the issues im having.
yea im learning that slowly with lucky patcher ive broke some apps messing around with them. but i try to research first before i mess around with stuff ive learnd u cant get free platinum in games like arcane legends but ive done it on bloons TD. im just doing it for fun and just to see if i can... i normaly just delete the app after anyway i hardly play mobile games. thanks for the information about being shunned n stuff i should of figured that people would look down upon it but i tend to be honest about what i do

Thank u man. Ive been tearing my hair out over this for awhile... ive tried alot of things except flashing a new rom to my phone...
Just a quick note. Its so very important to make a backup before playing or changing things around. I know this may not help at the moment but just think if you would have took 10 mins and did a backup you could have restored your phone back to its working condition. So please remember to ALWAYS do yourself the favor of taking the few extra mins to make a backup FIRST THING.... I wish i knew more about gapps to helo you out but i dont. I stay as close to stock as i can.... Good luck my friend. I wish you the best. But remember to do a backup next time

Hello,
I read about all the amazing stuff you can do with rooting and wanted to try it myself. I searched for a while and found a program called kingroot. After reading some positive reviews I decided to go with it. I downloaded the program to my pc and rooted my phone. Once my phone is rooted, super excited me starts downloading apps wich require root. After a while I saw that some weird apps where installed on my phone (porn stuff mostly). I decided to factory reset my phone. Unfortunately, when I booted up my phone again I got some weird adds on my home screen and the weird applications were still there. I couldn't delete them because they were classified as standard apps. I downloaded king root again and unrooted my phone. After it was unrooted I did a factory reset once again. When I started up again, I saw that the weird apps were still there. I downloaden avg Antivirus and did a scan. The two apps who had mallware in them were: com.android.system and com.android.systemui. I rooted my phone again and the problems are still there. Right now I don't know what to do. What would you advice me to do?
Hi !
You have very badly read this s4-mini section ^^
There are others way for to root our phone....
I recomand to flash cwm 6.0.5.1 and then "rootkitv2" (after root ,open SuperSU for to disable knox and update binary in "normal mode" => the root is good ! )
Kigroot it's the "hell" ,a big malware !!! The worst thing ....very very bad !!! There are repports who have said that it's dangerous...
And many known apps who need root din't reconize and like at all the root with this method because there are "kiguser app" !!!! It's not the SuperSU by chainfire...
Now you have to reflash a stock firmware with odin method ....and FULL factories wipes !!! .....and root .
(Or with cwm : format&wipes ...and flash customs roms^^ )

Hello,
I read about all the amazing stuff you can do with rooting and wanted to try it myself.

Those malwares were installed in system partition, this is why Factory Reset (wipe of Data partition) can't solve your problem.
The best advice I can give you is to flash a STOCK ROM then :
1- If you only need root, use the corresponding version for your device of CF-AUTO-ROOT.
2- If you need root & ability to install custom roms, use Odin to flash a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) through which you can flash SuperSU.
