Hello Everyone
I have a very odd problem on my Xperia S device and this problem is not only limited to my device but is also for all other Xperia S devices that I have tried or used in my area!!!
The problem is related to the WiFi (the phone does not connect to any network and does not even detect any network)
after going back and forth with this problem I discovered that it is related to the GSM providers in my country Syria (both providers MTN or Syriatel) If I remove the SIM card everything works fine (My phone detects WiFi networks and is able to connect to any of them) so basically the problem is related to frequency matters (I guess).
I found one work around only: if I switch the WiFi off - reboot the phone - wait till the phone finishs booting and detecting the GSM network - then switch the WiFi on. This work around worked for me so far WiFi works completely fine after doing so even with the SIM card inserted but this only works for the official stock ROMs or modified ROMs based on the stock ones (If I try cyanogen based ROMs there is no way that I could find to make it work, I also tried the leaked official JB ROM 6.2.B.0.197 from DooMLoRD (BTW you are the best) and it did not work also whatever I try till I remove the SIM card and boot the phone without GSM.
Anyone can give me any hint or help about this annoying matter?? Thanks in advance.
PS: My phone is unlocked rooted and using stock 6.1.A.2.55 ROM with Advanced Stock Kernel v17
PS2: the problem as I said before exists in every Xperia S phone I tried is this area (whether are Lock or Unlocked, Rooted or NOT) and I tried about 7 or 8 devices so far, so it is not limited only to my device.

I did try and did not work + I tried it on several wireless routers same problem, that's why my guess it is related to frequency conflict between WiFi adapter and GSM SIM cards
anyways thanks for your help

i'm using stock rom but still having the problem, that's weird
i found that not only data connection problem, battery also have problem..
when lower than 40%, it will suddenly drop to 1 % and shutdown immediately..
If you are like me and have tried 10 different ICS ROMS and WIFI was not working, then this is for you!
(To be clear, when you turn on wifi, it will not show any access points, when you know there are some around you)
When you turn on your phone it checks the region code from your SIM card and adjusts your wifi settings based on that. Well apparently some regions do not have the correct settings and that basically disables your wifi. For me SIM cards from Afghanistan and Qatar have that effect. A simple test is to put in US SIM and test if wifi works after that (worked for me). Possibly just removing your SIM might work too. But once I switched back, wifi no longer worked.... Sooooo thank Ealireza for creating a script that will modify a database and allow you to use any region SIM and use wifi.
The solution is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403801
Edit- Simpler solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445766
Basically you will need to install Script Manager and SQLLite3, if you dont have a file browser you may need to push one using ADB. Also when running the script be sure to run it as root and you are just looking for exit code 0. Then the wifi and you should be good to go. Good luck!!!
My Xperia suddenly stopped connecting to mobile networks for some reason. The antennae is fine, it detects the networks but doesnt connect to them. I flashed the same rom and a couple of others to see what happens but the same problem persists. What should I do?
Try this
ONLY IF YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED flash another kernel and a rom , and reset all of your settings , if the problem is still there contact someone to repair your phone ... preferably sony.

Tried different kernels and roms, no luck...
i suggest
its probably best to send your xperia for repairs , if not Try messing around with your GSM card or sim or what ever you want to call it, it may not be your phone
I've flashed Xperia Z Jelly Bean v4 (this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267230&highlight=data) on my Arc S and I can say its so fast and so beautiful.
The only problem I have is that I cant connect to mobile data 3G however my APN settings are correct
I flashed BB-77 too as recommended by one of the users in the thread and it didnt work as well
So what should I do now ?
Thanks
Were you able to use the 3G connection before this ROM?
My current advice - Ask from your operator, if the 3G connection is enabled for you.

Are you sure you have "Data enabled"? Try to reboot your phone.

Yes I was able to use 3G before this ROM and i contacted my operator and 3G is enabled already

Well, if in the thread you downloaded it from was nothing more to flash, then nop.
I said it because in GB Roms you must flash an additional libraries, but i dont had used CM10 based ROMs so i can just can guess, check the baseband threads.
By the way, sometimes my phone "losses" the data connection for a while (the icon dessapear even if the data connection is active). It just happen like 2 times since a got it, but after some time it comes back.
Flash latest stock 4.0.4 and then install Xperia Z Jelly Bean v4.

Well, in the thread I flashed something called Xperia Arc S 4.1.B.1.13 Vodafone DE firmware and they said it's for increasing system and data memory for Arc user and latest BB. You think this is the problem ?!
the phone is not set to gsm only?
look at settings - more - mobile network - uncheck 2g
also look at the accesspoin and choose the right one
Guys please this is really urgent and I did everything I could
Last thing i did was flashing every stock thing on the phone, stock GB, stock kernel, stock baseband and nothing changed and data mobile is still not working
You can try to input the apn by yourself
Sent from my Xperia Arc S using xda app-developers app
already did!
Please guys I need some advanced solution for that. Thanks
Hi Guys.
I have searched for this issue but cannot find anything specific to my case.
I have a rooted HTC Desire running InsertCoin and recently changed my phone network (new SIM) to Sure a relativity new phone network in Jersey (Cable and Wireless). When the SIM was first put in the phone connected to network but would not send SMS (error straight away). I checked the APN list and this was blank. I got the APN settings from the website and tried to add these (getting warning cannot detect SIM) but it would not save.
SIM works fine in Galaxy Nexus Stock 4.3 and S3 using CM11 - cannot to network and APNs visible + text/data works.
So I installed CM7 and CM10.1 and with these the phone would not connect to the network at first. However when I do in to search for networks a couple of times it finds SURE and connects. Adding APN gives no error messages but this will not save. Using APN tools from play store they say "You SIM card cannot be used" Sim state "UNKNOWN" + cannot detect operator code etc so it seems to be an issue reading some of the SIM. But when connected to network I can make calls and receive texts. I have tried messing with the GSM only, auto WCDMA settings in phone information and makes no difference.
I am on baseband 5.11.05.27.
Any ideas what could be causing these issues? I really think its an issue with the phone reading 'some' data from the SIM. The phone shop said we do sometimes have these issues with older phones and i should change my phone
Any help appreciated!

BUMP as I really need help - cannot send SMS or get data
Any ideas - should i try different radio?
Firstly upgrade radio to the latest one, as the one you have is not the latest. Secondly, try latest evervolv nightly, as it is based on kitkat and maybe it will help. Try these and post results.

Hi there,
Thanks for these suggestions - it has taken me a while because of USB driver issues but I have finally flashed the latest Radio 5.17.05.23 with a Stock HTC ROM and this did not make any difference - still says No SIM card when opening APNs. Then flashed to latest Evervolv 4.4 and just like CM before it will not let me save APNs and actually says 'No SIM card - C&W" on the lock screen.
Any other ideas - really seems like the phone cannot read the SIM properly. Works fine with other SIMs and the SIM works fine in other phones. Have 2 x HTC desires and same issue so must be problem with this model?!
Thanks
Bridgstfer
No other thoughts guys? Is this just a weird one where the HTC is too old?
