Downgrade Help - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In my attempt to unlock bootloader, I stupidly upgraded my software version to 3.12.405.1 while using Easy Unlock Tool, because I wasn't paying attention what it was saying in the CMD.exe. Now I'm trying to downgrade it, because I can't seem to succeed doing anything with it (Rooting, Installing CWM or changing ROM). Also, it's S-ON, so I'm trying to get it S-OFF as well.
I'm lost. Can anyone help me out here?
PS: I really don't need to be reminded that I messed up...
EDIT: I managed to root it, install CWM. What I need to do now is get S-OFF and put a custom rom (Do I really need S-OFF?).

No, but I'm all good now. I don't really need to S-OFF as I've seen in other guides, but I need to know how to flash a kernel via boot.img.

Have you installed 4ext recovery? Download 4ext from the google play, that will let you install 4ext recovery free for 3 days or something - long enough, only takes a few minutes! And roms and kernals can be flashed from there

Unrevoked to get newer clockworkmod?

Propibly a stupid question but i rooted my phone a while back and it is still s-on and i'm not sure if i'm going to s-off so i was wondering is it safe to use unrevoked again on my phone with out wiping data and cache and by that way flash cwm 3.0.0.5?
Oo and sorry for my english hope you understand what i'm trying to ask
You can't root an already rooted phone, doesn't work and can mess everything up so you have to start again, unless you go S-Off ofc.
I thought so
So i think i have to go s-off atleast to get the newest cwm.
But i don't know much about s-off and what i get from doing it so it's a bit scary
Try Rom-manager from the Market!
With it you can update, very easy now stress no need for s-off
But it is a temporary fake-flash - next time you reboot, you get the previous version.
For permanent update either S-OFF....
or some people said they succeeded with using the same version of unrEVOked for flashing the update, as the version they used for rooting. Just select a custom image.
Yes use unrevoked to flash it. No problem. Nandroid just in case.

If you want to know more about S-Off just look here. Just read everything carefully, when you have understood you can do it.
From doing it you will get several things. Of course you will be able to flash the recovery you want directly with fastboot. You will also be able to flash another radio or another hboot. In particular you could be interested in changing hboot if you want a different partition layout, everything is explained in the link above.

Go to unrevoked.com and click unrevoked forever and follow the links to transfer the HBOOT flashable zip that will enable S-OFF. You also may have to downgrade your radio to do it. It can work in ubuntu. Wait what am I saying? The OS you're running doesn't matter as all you need to do is read the instructions on unrevoked.com and transfer the zip file as directed there.

Cant hurt to try unrevoked forever patch http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever, but you will need to downgrade the radio to a supported version. Not sure if an unlocked bootloader will let you flash a radio or not.

It should allow it. It allows fastboot when my .92 bootloader didn't. Not sure about if S-OFF will even work on 1.02. I always thought it was more open than S-OFF since it was released on the Inc.
You can easily unlock the bootloader the HTC dev way using Ubuntu. This will allow you to flash a custom recovery, and from there, custom ROM's, stuff like that. To get true s-off, though, the easy way is to use Unrevoked Forever, and that requires a Windows machine (and it won't work in Virtualbox either, at least it didn't for me). I think there are other (older) guides for getting s-off that use adb, and those methods would work just fine in Ubuntu. I found it easier to boot into Windows.
Edit: I'm not sure if you can get s-off after you're on the 1.02 bootloader.
Ok now im confused.

His bootloader already is unlocked.
Unrevoked requires a pc, unrevoked forever does not.
I have never heard of using adb to get s-off, other than using it to downgrade to froyo to use unrevoked to get root and s-off. Speaking of, you could downgrade to froyo and then use unrevoked to get root and s-off. Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258, you would want to start at step 28, as i assume you have already done 1 - 27, htcdev unlock bootloader, fastboot flash cwm, flash su thru recovery, and install busybox. You will need adb and fastboot setup on your pc to downgrade.
At the top of the bootloader screen it says Locked (oow). Even though i already unlocked my bootloader.

Do you still have the unlock_code.bin file htc gave you when you unlocked it? May still be on your computet in the same folder where fastboot.exe is. If so fastboot flash it back to the phone ( fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin )

Try calling the fastboot binary with sudo. I had that problem on Mint but only for the Inc not the Nexus and using sudo for fastboot solved it.

Pretty sure you're going to need s-off for the kernels and radios. Everything else should be fine.
If you've got a custom recovery installed, though, you should be able to s-off with Unrevoked forever by just flashing an update.zip. Unless there's an issue with the newer firmware that I'm unaware of.

Do you have cwm recovery, superuser, and busybox installed?
Im not sure what all you can flash thru hboot with an unlocked bootloader. But you can flash roms mods and kernels thru cwm recovery.
If you can flash radios thru hboot, downgrade to a unrevoked supported radio, and then try flashing the unrevoked forever zip thru cwm recovery and see if it gives you s-off.
I have everything installed. So at this moment i could flash a kernel?

Yes you should be able to flash kernels thru cwm recovery just like you would a rom or a mod.

[Q] Wiped phone through clockwork with s-on, cant restore

I made a mistake rooting a friends droid incredible and left s-on, I have clockwork but it cant flash anything, I presume its because of the s-on. I wiped the phone without a backup to install miui, so I now have a droid incredible that can only get into hboot, clockwork, and fastboot. It also will not install 31img.zips, Yes ive renamed them correctly I just call them 31's. Help please?
You need to flash an RUU in the form of PB31IMG.zip. It needs to be named PB31IMG.zip and on the root of a FAT32 formatted sdcard. If you use the froyo RUU on pvillecomp.com you can use unrevoked to root again though your friend will just want it working.
My HBOOT wont give me the option to flash, it finds it and checks it, but wont let me install. im downloading the froyo ruu right now in hopes that it will connect through fastboot and do it.
What is your hboot version?
Tiny you are more knowledgeable at this than I, but I was wondering
1) would using PB31IMG's fail if used on the 1.02 hboot?
2) If they were to use the unrevoked tool to flash s-off, could they install a rom without having to boot into the already wiped phone?
I am on hboot version 1.02. My nexus and optimus s were so simple.
(sorry for double post) RUU's will not work

Have you used the htc dev site to unkock the bootloader? If not you need to do that, then fastboot flash cwm recovery, then flash superuser thru cwm recovery.

I would try flashing unrevoked forever before doing anything else. Logically this would get you s-off and allow you to flash a ROM. I wouldn't run straight to unlocking your bootloader because it is a lot harder to reverse that than it is to reverse the effects of unrevoked forever. (in the long run, that is. right now there would be no reason to reverse either)

actually bootloader is easy to lock. I think it's fastboot oem lock. You can unlock it again using the same token you used to unlock before that you should save if you decide to do that. Unrevoked forever only works on certain radio versions. With an unlocked bootloader you should be able to flash any PB31IMG.zip as well as flash with fastboot. With S-OFF I know you can flash custom PB31IMG.zip and also older RUUs.

Yes, but doesn't it then say 're-locked bootloader' or something to that effect where verizon or whoever else could tell that it has been unlocked before and therefore void any warranty? Whereas the s-off tool can be reversed using the s-on tool and nobody has to know anything was ever there. I don't have any experience in that department, I'm just speculating based on things that I have read.

Maybe, but I think when you submit for an unlock token is when HTC knows you unlocked your bootloader.

Flashing ROMs with only unlocked BL????

hey guys so i just got my inc 2 a couple days ago and of course it has the newest update and software which prevents me from downgrading to .97. So i decided to go the HTCdev unlocked BL way. Is there anyway i can flash custom ROMs and still have root access without downgrading to hboot.97?
any help is appreciated THANKS!!
sure can, if boot loader is unlocked, look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435228
OK here's a problem though. I cant flash the CWM recovery because i need s-off and i cant get s-off because im unable to downgrade with my new system software. Any way to flash custom roms without CWM?
What about the ext4 touchescreen recovery. I am using it and it is nice. Download the app and then it installs the recovery. Not sure if that will help I have s off so this is new to me. But might be worth a shot.

yeah, thats it i think, but i haven't had occasion to use it yet, so i don't know how it works, keep in mind you'll have to relock your bootloader to use it, i think. research it a little before you try
so whats the difference with having s-off compared to s-on?
you won.t have to flash a boot image everytime you install a rom, it also enables you to flash radios. you can't now. but no biggy.

[Q] So after root bootloader?

Ok so I followed 2 videos I cannor post since I am still new to root my phone. Weirdly enough it worked the first time (knowing how unlucky I am with these stuff).
So after this I learned that I have to unlock the bootloader. SO being the noob I am I went to actually check it out. What it was, not the process. I then found a rom I liked and the way to unlock the bootloader. So my questions:
1) Is there a possibility my bootloader is already unlocked?
2) In some posts I saw that the manufacturing date might make your phone hard brick. I think it was in some experia models. Does HTC Desire HD has any problem with that? Mine is : HT138RX... do I need to write the whole thing?
3) When you unlock the bootloader will the original rom work or it's just a step before you put the custom ROM?
4) once it is unlocked assuming I wanna change ROM do I have to unlock it again?
I already did my full back up so... Thanks in advance. I did a full search in the forum but couldn't find answers to these :/

Bootloader unlock and root are separate, and you can't root without unlock or S-Off. I don't know what you did, and I don't know what state your phone was in when you got it. If you tell me that I will know how to answer your question better. All I know right now is that your phone is S-Off, meaning that you can flash anything on it.

OK, I think I understand your confusion. You need EITHER bootloader unlock OR S-Off to flash a recovery and flash root. You have S-Off from AAHK (which is now unsupported), so you don't need to (and can't) unlock your bootloader.
Now, to have root, either flash a rooted custom ROM from recovery or flash a superuser zip on your current stock ROM.

Since you are S-Off you don't need the boot.img, just flash ROM and gapps from recovery. JellyTime is AOSP, not Sense, so you do need to flash gapps. If you ever flash a Sense ROM, you don't need gapps.
