I was on the rom TBSGS4 1.2 and was about to do a clean flash over to TBGS4 1.4. The directions said to use EL26 Direct-Boot and I've only ever used EL29 but decided everyone recommends EL26. So I mobile-odin EL26 and I notice something odd, the phone never leaves the Samsung Galaxy S2 logo, no matter how long I waited. I pulled the battery and tried a manual recovery on the phone and I get into CWM. I go ahead and wipe everything and installed the 1.4 rom as usual and reboot the phone when it finished. It got stuck at the same point again. So I rebooted into recovery again which is now Agat63_TRec3.5 I run a restore of my 1.2 file and it boots. I try then the el29 kernel to do the same process but end up with the frozen Samsung Galaxy S2 logo. Now I cannot access any recovery and all the downloads for RWilco's website are failing on me. I found an old EK02 stock rom and tried to odin it and it hangs at SetupConnection.. the phone won't even bring up the charging screen when powered off. It just sits with an empty battery with a rotation wheel that isn't moving.
So, is this a paperweight now?

Wow you're doing a whole lot of confusing thing.
IF you can get into Download Mode -
Power off completely
Then hold the Power Button + Volume Down button
Hopefully you'll then be prompted to press Volume Up to confirm going into download mode.
IF you can get there you can then use a One-Click Full restore and get your phone back.
Go here for the GB27
Make sure your phone is charged to at least 60% FIRST. (maybe just power it off and plug it in for a while)
Also run the One-click 'As Administrator' AND run that BEFORE you plug your phone - that is in download mode, to the computer.
I'd suggest you use the SPH-D710_GB27_1014481_Rooted_Restore.exe file.
Good luck.

I'm trying to download that GB27 but it keeps saying it's going to take 8 days to finish downloading and is only getting 2KB/s. I can't find any mirror or anything for it. I'm stuck because of this, my first though was to re-odin my phone but Rwilco12's site is extremely slow.

The link I just used is here.
Took 15.5 minutes.
Verified MD5Sum too.
Maybe check your DNS settings (maybe use Googles as your primary 8.8.8.8) - I know that Rwilco's server(s) where hit with a DDoS attack recently.

Keep us updated, once downloaded try to install it and go into download mode.
To know if you really haven't bricked yet is try going into download mode by Volume down and power at the same time.
The GB 27 had a MD5 error so I went looking through my recycle bin on my PC and found a Stock FI27 one click, I used odin and it fixed all the errors I had and it's booting perfectly now. I don't know why the el26 kernel with the safe recovery broke everything for me.

I have just tried to root my phone..
I have followed the instruction that says..
Once you have the drivers installed on your computer, unzip the oneclickroot and oneclickrootuninstaller .
Then, on your phone open Settings, go to Applications, then Development and click on USB Debugging (note: your USB cable should not be connected yet).
Connect your USB cable to the computer and the phone.
Then go to the directory you installed the oneclickroot to and double-click the run.bat file there. Follow the prompts on the screen.
Your phone will be rebooted for you when the process is complete.
Now turn off the phone. When the phone has finished shutting down, hold the volume down button, the camera button, and the power button all at the same time until you boot into recovery.
If the screen says Clockworkmod Recovery at the top, then everything worked fine, and you can reboot the phone by clicking the first option

and I did reboot my phone..but the screen keep showing "samsungmobile" and not proceed..
what should I do?
If you followed those instructions, then it would have worked. You did something wrong. Take the battery out for 30 seconds, put it back in, and try to start the phone...don't try to get into recovery, just try to boot. Assuming you can get it back up and running, try the one-click again.
I had the same issue.. in order to fix it I needed to ODIN the phone back to D18 or the Froyo leak.

still workin on it..
If it won't boot or go into recovery then try to get it into download mode take out the battery and then put it back in and hold 1 on the keyboard and hit power. If you can get into download mode you can then use Odin to flash a stock rom. and a brick s when your phone won't turn on at all so it's nit bricked. I'm positive you can get into download mode. That is prolly your only option.

I have tried to do the one click root several times. I watched Randy's video and followed it to the letter at the same time. It was like we were sinked. Finished at the same time the video did. When I reboot it sticks on the Samsung and the only way out is to take the battery out. I have no problem restoring the phone with odin. I have 2.2.1 froyo leak and it loads fine. Could this problem be with the new phones? I just purchase this phone about 1 week ago. There are others who are having the same problems. I have tried several different ideas and to no success yet. I can get into the one click by pressing the right keys, but when I reboot still the same problem.
Thanks in advance if you can help

I have read it somewhere that Samsung USB cable that came w/ the phone is a PoS. Granted I never had a cable that gone bad right out of the box , but I had cable that cause intermittent problem before. If you have another USB cable other than the one that came w/ the phone, maybe you should give that a try.
When I do the root it says that all has passed and loaded all files with no mistakes or faults and all the other connections work fine. I can format the sd card then put it back because I have saved all the data to my computer. I will give it a try
Thanks for the reply
Well I found an unorthodox way to fix the problem of the one click root. After downloading the one click root I installed from the zip folder VIPERrom_[Apocalypse]_EXT4-RFS_Dual_DK28_4.0.2c before I did the reboot. When I did that the phone worked fine and now I have viporrom

I guess that makes sense if your trying to install the One Click Root & Recovery on a stock DK28 rom, as when it installs CWM, it actually flashes a kernel when it does it. I would assume the kernel is based on DI18 2.1, which would cause issues if your on DK28 2.2. You could get around this by extracting the zimage file from the DK28 kernel zip and replacing the one in the one click folder.
Now if you were having those issues when starting from a stock DI18 rom, I would think flashing that 2.2 kernel wouldn't help matters either.

If u cant get into anything and the phone wont power on then, sounds like u got yourselg a nice paperweight, sorry, you may have to get a new phone.
And if that's the case, congratulations! You're the first person I've ever seen brick the Epic. See definition below.
BRICK: RENDER 100% USELESS AND MUST EXCHANGE. THERE ARE NO RECOVERY OPTIONS. YOUR DEVICE LITERALLY BECOMES NOTHING MORE THAN A PRETTY BRICK.
have you tried pulling out the battery, putting it back in and going back into download mode?
I was able to get it going again. i removed the battery and held down the 1 and power button and inserted the battery and the download came back up. hooked to usb and was able to get odin to run and i am know at eb13.
I have an epic touch. I rooted my phone and installed ClockworkMod Recovery, and StarBurst ROM. I could not tell if it worked because the screen and icons look exactly the same as factory. I then tried to add my company's email which asked me to restart the phone in order to encrypt some information. After it turned off, I have not been able to turn it back on. I see the start up screen (i.e., the word "Android" flashing) with no sound (which I believe is part of StarBurst). Then the screen goes blank and it stays off. Did I screw up my phone? What can I do to fix it? I tried a factory reset but that did not work. I would appreciate any help. I did try to search but could not find anything directly applicable. Thanks.
Well, I am able to boot it up. However, when I try to reinstall clockwork, I get an error stating that odin cannot open the serial(COM) port. So I cannot reinstall clockwork, or a stock kernel. I am unsure what I should do next. Any idea why odin does not recognize my phone?

It wasn't working and then it worked out of nowhere. Now I am trying to install a stock kernel but it doesn't work again.
I have the drivers downloaded when I installed kies. I tried another cable and it still doesn't work.
Ugh, sorry to hear it.
You might want to check the following:
1) Ensure Kies isn't running in the background.... it doesn't play well with Odin. Use your computer Task Manager to close any Kies processes that are running.
2) If 1 doesn't work, try restarting your computer. (It can't hurt)
One other thing I thought of: The phone is in download mode when connecting to the computer, correct? You get into download mode by shutting down phone, then pressing Volume Down & Power at the same time. At the prompt, press Up to continue.
(You've probably tried all of the above, but just trying to cover all the bases)

Turning off Kies did the trick. I was able to get odin to connect to my phone. I downloaded the stock kernel onto my phone. But I still have the same issue. It constantly cycles through the start up screen and doesn't progress past that point. Ugh...
I remember seeing something about how to handle bootloops after using odin on the international SGS2 forum. No guarantee it will work, but let me go find that post... be right back.
Updated: The post-Odin bootloop fix posts on int'l SGS2 forums all reference reflashing with stock firmware. We don't have that available yet for E4GT :-(
The only thing I can think of would be to go into stock recovery and do a factory reset
1) hold down power & volume Up
2) use volume up/down to select "wipe data/factory reset"
3) follow prompts
I haven't tried the above to recover from an E4GT bootloop -- for all I know it could make matters worse.
Sorry I can't provide more help :-(

That actually helped. I am able to boot up. Now I don't know whether I should leave it as it is or try to go through the steps all over again.
btw, thank you so much for your help. Very much appreciated.
You're welcome, so glad that worked!!
I was on the FK23 rom for a while, and everything was working perfectly. However, last night, I ran a white noise machine app from my phone while it was on the charger all night.
When I went to unlock the phone this morning, it wouldn't unlock, so I pulled the battery, and it started to bootloop. It would do the Galaxy SII screen, then the Sprint bootup, then it would play the Sprint boot down animation. Over and over.
So I tried flashing FL16 with ODIN, and when I do that, it gets stuck on hidden.img and doesn't do anything. Then I tried flashing EL29 with ODIN, and it gets stuck on recovery.bin and doesn't do anything. I have used multiple PCs and multiple cables. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?! I just want my phone to work T_T

Do a factory restore and wipe then odin one click stock EL29 and start from scratch.
I can't do a factory restore. When I hold Vol up + power, it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
:edited: Didn't see your response to graydiggy
Redownload a complete one click, verify md5 and try putting the phone in download mode and attempting again. It's possible that your download was bad.
so is there nothing I can do?
By technicality, that is not a brick. You should be able to flash from that message. That was the case with the Samsung Captivate.
I downloaded EL29 and verified it again. It is doing the same thing. stuck on recovery.bin
I also tried flashing from that message just now. Same thing. ODIN gets stuck on recovery.bin
thanks for the help but I think it's ****ed. something might have messed up in the filesystem and that's why ODIN gets stuck maybe.

Ok, so I found a solution by sfhub that worked for someone from a while ago. Try using pc odin to flash each piece seperately. Modem, kernel, then rom..
Here's my ref:
See post #9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492771
I'll see if this works. Hopefully it does, I'm ready to toss the thing out of a window, haha
edit: noob question, how do I flash the .md5 files? I downloaded odin multi downloader but the phone doesn't show up in it.
edit 2: okay nevermind I figured it out, it seems to be flashing
edit 3: so modem flashed just fine and the phone rebooted but when I try kernel it loads the green bar all the way on odin then it freezes...
edit 4: so I think my phone's flash memory might be screwed somehow. I've been reading other threads and someone had a similar problem as me and couldn't fix it.

Have you flashed all three pieces before trying to let the phone boot completely? Once you flash the first piece and it restarts, Just hold power+vol down and get back into download. Do that until you have all three segments flashed. Then try letting it boot.
I flashed the modem, it worked, then I rebooted back into download. Then I tried flashing kernel and the bar on ODIN filled up but then it froze and did nothing. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and it still did nothing. so I tried skipping that and flashing the rom and the bar on ODIN moved barely then froze. Like I said, I think my phone's flash memory got messed up somehow. :\

Then there may be one more thread that might help if that's the case.
Kernel is only the zimage file. Hang on, let me find it.
:edit: Maybe this will help you. If not, maybe graydiggy or someone else has some ideas.
With this, you'll have to see if you can't flash a custom recovery. From the sound of it, it may not be helpful at all.

They will probably know you borked it by trying to flash. If they can get to a recovery to see if you have flashed anything, you are screwed.
Do you by chance have a USB Download Mode JIG?
No, I don't. My download count in download mode is at 1, too.... so they probably won't fix it... but I might get lucky. Who knows.
edit: the messed up thing is I don't really know what messed it up. it worked fine for about a month on FK23, then boom, this morning it won't unlock and bootloops when I pull battery. before I tried flashing it, it wouldn't even go into recovery. when I held vol up + power, it just went to the Samsung screen and rebooted over and over

I have a theory... Give it a couple hours of plug in time without turning it on or trying to flash. Just give it like 3 hours and see if you can flash from there. You may have a battery that is low and it could be resulting in your problem of not being able to flash.
the battery was also on the charger all night... but I'll plug it in. is it charging even though it is on the connect to kies screen?

If you are stuck in a bootloop after running the recovery file in odin (it's 1.6 GB unzipped), which is the way things sound, pull the battery and go into stock recovery. Do this by replacing the battery, holding volume up, home, and power button until the ble recovery shows in the upper left then let go. In stock recovery, scroll down 9using volume button) to wipe data/factory reset. Coose that option with the power button. You will lose ALL data on your phone and you will have to go thru setup again. When it's done choose reboot in the menu and let it reboot. Don't freak if it takes a while. In a minute or 2 you will see the screen dim and it will boot. Go thru setup, root again, install custom recovery, and if you were wise enough to have done a backup tp your SD card, you can get it back.
Good luck, there are tutorials on Youtube if you care to search for them. Here's a good one -

Good suggestion :good:
I think the issue is that he's making things more complicated than he needs to.
A step by step by the op would be helpful if your suggestion doesn't resolve the issue

Op, you're a little confusing.
Are you able to successfully use ODIN and flash stock firmware, but get stuck in a boot loop or freeze on Samsung splash?
Or ODIN fails?
From you're posts it sounds like both issues are occurring, but I think it's a posting conflict, and your issue is one or the other, unless I'm wrong, which I've been before
when i try recovery it goes to boot saying loading recovery than it goes full off and after boot screen again...i tried twrp and still nothing but the good thing is that odin passed that ..the only thing it didnt fail....maybe i didnt have the right rom ...i am downloading the official i9505 rom and i hope it will work this time....but plz if any1 can help i would apriciate it
Odin problem
I am also having a odin problem. I have tried jdownloader2 as well. Everything is giving me an error on extraction. My phone is stuck on the pulsing T-Mobile 4G LTE. Please help...my wife is looking at me like I just wasted money on a useless brick :silly:
Make sure you guys ODIN the correct Stock Firmware for your model device.
Make sure you ODIN the correct Custom Recovery for your model device.
And if you're Rooting, for example with CF-AUTO-ROOT by Chain fire, make sure you ODIN the proper version for your device.
In addition, check your USB cable to ensure it's working properly 100% of the time and have enough battery juice to perform the above procedures.
Odin problem
I have double check all the stock firmware. Got the files from 247extreme.com, given to me by DarkMenace. Several downloads of the same files...nothing seems to pass the MD5 check. The USB cable is 100%.

I have tried all of those. Everyone is an MD5 error. I feel like I may be missing something. My recovery screen has a android on his back with a red triangle. I can get to the Tmobile screen, should it stay there longer than 5 minutes?

Go into Stock Recovery
Wipe data and Factory Reset option
Boot
And everything will be good
I had the same happen to me regarding the Android on his back with a Red X.
I had to research to find what this mmeant and what to do.
After ODIN, I would freezeion Samsung splash twice.
Pull battery
Install battery
Press Power and Vol up buttons till you see the upper left hand blue script, andtrelease buttons to get into Recovery.
I went into Stock Recovery and chose the option where it says Factory Reset.
I then Booted Successfully.
Afterwards, I ODIN'd Custom Recovery, TWRP 2.5.0.2

Could be several minutes, and a little longer.
Just wait it out after you choose Factory Reset/wipe option and Boot.

I am now stuck on the samsung logo with the blue writing on the top. What the hell have I done? PLEASE HELP! I probably need instructions like I am 2 years old...at least that is how this process is making me feel. I did read that as long as I can get to download mode it is okay. But I can't seem to get a good file for odin to work with.

Okay, I was stuck on the recovery at first followed instructions.
ODIN to PASS...yeah!
Reboots...stuck on Tmobile 4G LTE
Pulled battery...got to recovery
Wipe/factory reset
says complete....reboot now
Stuck on Tmobile 4G LTE screen.
I am following instructions to the letter! I can only think that the file I using for ODIN is wrong.
Wife is getting very suspicious...uh oh!
