VERY lightweight, portable, compact keyboard - Galaxy Note 10.1 Accessories

Hi, I saw the other keyboard thread but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I have a horrible back and I need to keep my back lightweight. So, I need a portable, compact, keyboard for note 10.1 Next year I will be commuting to college for 2 hours (there and back) every single day.
I was thinking http://www.amazon.com/MiniSuit-Keybo...+10.1+keyboard
But reviews arent good. I like it cause it can go directly over the screen and it will be compact in backpack. Next semester i will be commuting for a hour everyday, so I need good one.
I also saw the logitech keyboard, but I went to the store to look at it and it seems thick and heavy. It would be thicker then netbook...
I use to have a netbook and I don't want a keyboard to be thicker then my netbook, with tablet combined. The reason I got a tablet was due to lightweight portability, so it would be pointless if its thicker. Thanks.

You should take a look at Zagg Flex. I just got it yesterday, and am quite satisfied with it.
Really, I mean, really light and compact.

Thanks! I was looking at that before, but it did seem thick and heavy? I have a netbook sleeve, would it fit? Is it thin? Thanks!

I am also a commuter student with back problems. I just got the Zagg Flex a week ago, and I love it! The Logitech with it's AA batteries and thick cover was too heavy and bulky for me, but the Zagg is just right. My kitchen scale says it's just shy of 11 ounces including the cover and charger cable (micro USB). It's about 6 ounces without the cover, but I really like the stand functionality, so I carry the cover too.
I purchased it so I can use my Note as my primary computer while I'm studying abroad in Spain this summer. Portability and weight were two huge factors. I also wanted a decent chiclet keyboard and not one of the weird silicon ones. I love the key layout of this one. I tried 6 other keyboards/keyboard cases before settling on this one.
It feels pretty thin to me. The keyboard is .75 inches with the stand/cover or .65 inches without it. For comparison, the Note is .35 inches thick with no cover. The two together would most likely be thin enough to go in a standard netbook neoprene sleeve especially if you took off the cover. It is also thin enough to fit in the back pocket of my jeans (not that you would, but there's an image of a model doing this on the box, so I had to try it.
The Minisuit keyboard case is .43 inches by itself and .66 inches when attached to the note, so the Flex would be a bit thicker, but the Minisuit weighs in at 12.3 ounces.
The only downside to the Flex is that it's separate from the stand, so it's not as convenient to use in your lap on the train like the keyboard cover is. You have to either do a balancing act with a textbook on your lap, or put it flat on your lap or the seat beside you and type from afar. I'm still trying to find a good cover to pair with it that would double as a base for the keyboard when I want to use it in my lap.

I hope you don't buy it from there, Amazon has it for half the price(http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Aluminum-Samsung/dp/B009SKVICM/ref=pd_cp_pc_3). I just ordered a Note 10.1 from yesterday's Woot deal so I'm looking for accessories, keyboard/case combo ideally. The only gripe I had seen about this one is that the space bar comes into contact with the screen when it's closed and in some cases wore a line into the screen. That's a little scary. I wonder if you could put some additional rubber feet on the palm rests to prevent this. Anyone on this forum used the above keyboard and have any feedback?

Looks nice, but could we fold the cover flap fully to the back, in case we want to hold the tab in book reading mode
I just ordered one of those from amazon.
Bad thing is that for me, shipping was even more expensive (15$) than the cover itself (14$)...
I think you can fold the cover flap fully to the back, in case you want to hold the tab in book reading mode. Take a look at a video on youtube about this case, but ipad version. Search for "Review: Acase Slim Leather Folio Case with Stand for iPad 2".
doesn't look like it. there's no crease on the front cover like the ipad case i have.
i bought one earlier and it should be here next week. now i'll have a matching set for my ipad, gt7 and gt10.1.

Aw man, didn't see that. If only it is a mistake with the pictures and the cover we receive is OK... I think that crease helps you type on the best position. Well, you know better that you have the I pad version.
you can rest the bottom on the "latch" and put in a slightly upraised position. i just find it a little too bouncy when doing that while typing.
I have the same case for my 7" Galaxy Tab and am very happy with it. The quality is that of a much more expensive case. If I had not already bought another case I would be picking one of these up.
Unless I am seeing it wrong in the photos the problem with this case is that you have to constantly detach it from the BOTTOM HALF of the TAB to use it in a tilted position. This is how that $90 Zenus brand carbon fiber case I bought and returned worked. It was a real PITA plus it will eventually wear the paint off the tab.
i prefer that than the extra thickness (like belkin folio case). i haven't had any chipping or scratching on either of my other tablet's yet, but i did bend all those tabs a bit after getting them to make it easier to pull out. i even loosened the cover latches a bit too.

[Q] Is there a case that allows full access?

I'm looking for a case that will support the tab (folio style or the like) yet have the cut out or designed in a way to have access to the headphone jack and dock port.
I would really like to load movies onto a SD card and watch them via the USB host adapter. However, I will be doing this mostly in places that will need headphones. Also will need a case that supports the tab so I don't have to hold it. (Thanks Samsung, for this little inconvenience)
Anyone see anything that will make this possible?
I would like this as well. Most cases give headphone access but that port connector location kinda sucks. We almost need a case with a build in port connector that has a wire oud the side....perhaps detachable.
Ya.. I've been looking at cases for an hour and now resorted to looking on ebay.
That dock connector is seriously in a bad spot.
I could really care less about the case, but I care greatly about not having to hold the darn thing up with my hand while I'm using it. This includes while watching movies or showing someone pictures I just took.
Trying to add a support solution without adding the case would be an option...
I have the ACase Folio, which I am very happy with. When I want to use the Tab with something plugged into the dock connector, I fold the ACase cover all the way back and stand the Tab on the Rabbit Portable Stand and Holder, $10 on ebay, shipped, at http://cgi.ebay.com/Rabbit-Portable-Stand-and-Holder-iPad-Galaxy-Tablet-PC-/220772954466
The stand is just wide enough to accomodate the USB adapter (as well as the USB cable). Works great for me.
Thanks, I've seen the rabbit stand and it's the best stand of that type IMO. However it's just one more thing to carry. Add that to a bumpy plane ride and I'm still looking for a case that does it.
I just got the Belkin slim from Best Buyer, and it's going back.

The Rabbit Stand comes in two pieces, that you interlock to use (see first picture attached). When not using, one of the pieces fits flat into the other, and the two pieces fit flat into a seal-able baggie that comes with the stand (see second picture). Would take up minimal space in your carry on for traveling.
For bumpy plane rides, you could use velcro to attach the stand to the Tab or a Tab case.
(I have no connection to the Rabbit Stand or the ebay seller. It just happens to be the only good solution I have found to using the Tab in landscape mode with the USB adapter plugged in, and a good one at that.)
Oh yea baby ill give you full access. That what she said she really did.

Hey guys, I HIGHLY recommend this one from Amazon:
rooCASE Multi-Angle (Black) Leather Folio Case Cover for Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi
I cant link to it yet, since this is my first post!!
I got it from Amazon last week after using the Belkin one for a few days. It's $43. but it's really worth the investment!!
The pouch is detachable from the Case itself so that it can stand portrait position AND landscape position. It attaches to the case by two large Velcro circles.
You can flip it around so that the charger faces out and the case closes while charging. Or you can leave it with the port on the bottom and move the Tab up (in landscape position) and the cord runs along the inside spine of the case while it charges.
Check out the specs and more details at Amazon.com
Executive Portfolio Leather Cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510
Built-In Stand for Comfortable Viewing at 45 Degree Angle. Detachable Inner Sleeve for Handheld Operation;
Business and ID Slots with Accessory Flap. Elastic Loop for Pen or Stylus. Dual Zipper for Easy Access.
Access to All Ports and Controls.
A MUST Have for all GALAXY Tab 10.1 Owners!! Available in Black, Magenta and Red. Search: rooCASE Galaxy Tab 10.1 Executive Portfolio
Reattaches by Velcro for Landscape / Portrait Viewing. (Galaxy Tab NOT Included)
(NOT Compatible with Galaxy Tab 7, 8.9 and 10.1v P7100 European Edition)
If you are concerned about thinness and slimness, this isnt for you. This REALLY makes you look like an Executive!!
I saw this. It's just too thick for my liking.
I could have dealt with it, but the fact that you're always going to have a keyboard sized front cover in front of the TAB was a deal killer.
At first, I thought about that, but then I quickly realized that I wasn't. I guess the Tab distracted me too much I can't ignore the extra protection & stability it provides though. My stylus doesn't roll too far either and is easy to find on my desk which is also black (and the lights are dimmed for a little "Table-
Hopefully someone will develop one for those users who prefer a slimmer form factor which has the functionality & accessibility of this one. The port cant be moved so they should definitely take a closer look when designing them. If they put it on the other side, then it would be waaayy to similar to that "other" device, which shall remain nameless.
J
RooCase is AWESOME from Amazon! so many different ways to set it up its impossible to not have your desired configuration. Unless like someone else said you bought this tab for the sole fact of it being thinner than the thing that soaks up my woman's monthly friend. Just goes to show you that Apple will suck you dry!

Armband holster for the gym

Can anyone suggest an armband holster for the gym? The pocket is less than ideal.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
I posted the link to the grey / blue Belkin one towards the end of this thread, and really like it!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736407
If your at the gym just get the Samsung HS3000, bluetooth stereo adapter..works really well sound quality is good too! Just leave your phone in a gym bag so you don't have to worry about your phone falling or getting crushed..
I used this for my Galaxy S1:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...=1343186933&sr=8-5&keywords=Galaxy+S3+armband
I hated it! You can't press the buttons very well. The plastic bubbles up, making swiping hard. The cut-outs don't work well.
I avoided the Belkin because it looks like more of the same -- hard to use. And $20 too.
I bought these two from eBay (pictures attached):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/33076460537...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_6088wt_1163
http://www.ebay.com/itm/26107246592...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_1413
The 1st one is the one I truly wanted. I wanted something that will hold the device securely but will let me use all the features and buttons.
I'll let you know how secure it is when I get it. The picture looks loose, but I figure then I can use it with my Diztronic case and it should fit snug (Bonus!).
I got the 2nd one because it looked nice for running when it's sprinkling. Water + device = bad.

ATT stores carry this http://www.alternativewireless.com/nxe-activesleeves-phone-cases-large.html
Comes as a pack of 2 for 30 bucks, the XL size fits the GS3 pretty good. I have a 17" bicep and it isn't as snug as I would like, but when I am in the gym they are a little over 18" so it fits great. And when I run my arms are usually up and flexing often so it stays snug then too. Just sitting at my desk it doesn't work as good lol.
Its neprene or something and super stretchy so you could probably fit the phone into a smaller size.

I got this one in the mail.
Unfortunately the phone fits very tightly. The case keeps mashing the buttons when it's in the case.
My friend ordered one and said his is fine. If you order off eBay, might want to get 2-3 direct from China and use the best one.
Also, don't order unless you have fairly thick biceps. I don't have would I would consider super-thin biceps, about 13-14 inches, but this thing is definitely designed for someone with a 16+ inch bicep.

Review: "Grid" exercise armband works with cases!

If you search for "galaxy s3 grid armband" on eBay, you'll find it. I bought from "wanghaostore".
It's also listed under other names, you can search further under "galaxy s3 sport armband" once you know what the auction picture looks like.
The armband came a bit folded in half probably from shipping, I need to set something heavy on it to flatten it out....
Fit
The armband fits really good. All the buttons are accessible. You can change the volume while running, as well as easily access the ports and power button.
The armband also works with cases! As you can see in the last picture I have my diztronic TPU case on it.
Feel
The material is a little scratchy, but overall it's comfortable and will stay put on the arm. It's a tech-fabric material with what looks like a nylon weave "cushion" underneath.
It should be pretty sweat-resistant, the material where the phone sits is neoprene, so it shouldn't absorb sweat or scratch the phone.
The strap length is a bit on the short side. It fits for me, I have 13-14 inch biceps. It could probably go up to 19-20 inch biceps, but beyond that you might need a different holster. Smallest it could go is probably around 11-12 inches.
Usability
I always have problems with the plastic screen protector on armbands bubbling up. With this one the case stretches it, so I can easily use the phone while its on my arm. I don't anticipate issues being able to slide or use Pandora.
The main benefit of the armband is also its biggest detriment: All the ports are exposed. Don't plan on using it in the rain. But for a sunny day, or indoors at the gym, it's a great holder.
Price - $1.99 + $1.50 shipping on eBay.
So buy 5, so you can replace it if it becomes stanky from sweat.
Good review. Do you think it will fit those with extended batteries with a tpu case?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Maybe. Its thick enough, there's plenty of vertical space.
My friends phone with incipio silicrylic case fits. Bit tight (width-wise, height has plenty of room),
May even fit with otter box.

Ah, yeah, same here. I was pleasantly surprised, I would say it is the best armband on the market right now.
It may not work with extended battery + TPU case (depends how thick), but I'm fairly confident in saying it'll at least work with the extended battery.
There are a lot of complaints about the Belkin armbands absorbing water/sweat.
I had the iArmbands style for my last phone, they suck.
I might get one of the iGadgitz or CrazyOnDigital type for rain, but this will be my primary-use one, since I don't have to take off the case.
Looks like it's $4. shipped now.

I've thought of this too. I'm intrigued by the Tetrax and whether it would be stable (mostly because I've been thinking about getting one for my car).
http://www.tetrax.com/us/products/iphone-ipod/tetrax-xway
It'd be interesting to get one of the FIX connectors and epoxy it to some sort of strap, like the TuneBand.
Or you could get a cheap case and make your own TuneBand

Much rather do $10 for 2 day delivery then have to wait. But the bigger question is, do you think SGP Neo Hybrid case fit (well that is, not ridiculously tight!)? http://www.amazon.com/SPIGEN-SGP-Protection-Protector-International/dp/B008MEIQHA

Wrong button, enjoy the thanks.
NO. That is not the right one.
I actually bought that one through eBay, it sucks. The one I got, the phone doesn't fit in it (not even without the case, it kept pressing the volume button). And the strap is huge, the arm band wouldn't fit on my arm. I ended up throwing it away.
As far as the arm band goes, it should easily fit with the SGP Neo. The diztronic, despite being thin on the back, is quite thick around the sides.

Fake and over priced, they only cost about USD 3 each.
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EJ-FT810UBEGUJ Best cover for Tab S2 I think
This is the case I have for mine. Quite thin and light. Has a nice smooth, soft touch feel too

I think the perfect cover was the Samsung Simple Cover which was released for the older Tab S - I can't post links yet so you'll have to Google it
It just clipped onto the notches at the back and protected the screen without adding bulk (I'm not worried about the back. It's the screen I want to protect when the tablet is in my bag etc). I'm hoping to get something like that for my Tab S2 when/if it becomes available
Samsung Tab S2 is amazing tablets with great features. Yes, Its very thin and light weight. The camera and sound are really amazing.
I have been looking for this type of cover (front only like the ipad or tab S) for a while too, no luck. Please post a link if you know of something similar.

AliExpress has several covers that are packaged just like Samsung Book covers in more colors. I ordered 2 and they seem like the Samsung originals. The snaps fit well. They are 14.30, with free China Post shipping.

The ones I got for my original Tab S were crap. The case itself felt like thin cheap cardboard and the one button kept coming undone. The only redeeming quality was the magnet was stronger. The magnet in the samsung one was beyond weak and never held up to any sort of gaming or movement and kept flattening out.
I ended up picking up the book case with the plastic snap in back. Adds a touch of thickness, but the magnet is stronger, the case feels more premium than the china two button ones, and it does provide more protection. Here it is.
But honestly, the book type covers are much more stable and solid when in the different stand modes than the ones where lid folds over itself into a triangle. But I guess it's more about what's important to you.
The roocase origami is the most beautiful and thinnest cases you can find

How is it thinner with a shell than the simple covers that utilize the snap in buttons? Seems like kind of a wash.

Hi Folks, before, i allways bought third-party covers for my tabs.......at the Tab S2 (SM-T815 LTE), i tried different ones, but they are all much too heavy, so i don`t want to make a ultra light weight Tabelet to a heavy duty one.........And, I´m also using a bluetooth keyboard most of time, if i had to wrote longer EMails and other things......so, this time i got the original samsung one :
http://www.samsung.com/at/consumer/mobile-devices/accessories/input/EJ-FT810MBEGDE
And, it`s really perfect!!! With the keyboard within, it`s a bit heavy, ok, but it`s ok for a complete device, with external keys. But! You can put the magnetic holded keyboard out to use it complete seperately (By the way with two different devices). And the cover only is very tight and light weight. So, the tab is covered, you have three possibilities to make it as a stand by the magnetic holders, and, the tab`s display goes out if you close the cover.
The keys are amazing! You have specialized Android keys, a mouse pad, and it works just perfect !!!!! And you can handle the keyboard complete seperatly, that`s what i really like............
BTW : I also bought the docking station , with 2 USB Ports, charging input, HDMI out and LAN connector.....this is awesome !!!! And, this is not connected like the other docking stations by putting the device directly on a micro usb pin! It have a short cable, so you can choose the direction for the tab by yourself..........and it works perfect also. LAN connection in office or at home is great, very fast. And you can keep all beeing connected, just put the tab in the stand, connect the cable and all is running. At the beginning, i have some Problems with apps like Chrome, they only accept a 3/4G or Wifi connection, but there is a app in playstore calles "true ethernet" that is simulating a 4G Connection for LAN, this app runs in the background, so you just have to install it...thats all, and you can use all apps with a ethernet connection also......think you need root for this app........
The Samsung keyboard cover is a bit more expensive than the other ones, but not so much, but if you try it, you will see, it`s really better to spend this more money, so you have a device and cover, that fits 100 percent for your device.....
