The new Seidio Dock for the Thunderbolt is now shipping. It can be used without the need to remove your cover. Ordered mine this morning. I had one for my Evo before and it worked great with the cover on.

It says it will work without removing phone from case if you use the included cable.... Let us know if it charges in the cradle while case is on.... Picture shows it will....

you can also save $10 by buying it without the case.
Ordered...I need a dock for home and work.
Curious to see some reviews on this ... really been wanting a desk top dock!

Anyone know what the difference between the regular one and the "kit" one is besides the $10??
Thunderbolt Desktop Dock Kit
I believe the only difference is the kit comes with an A/C cord for the dock.
Doesn't put the phone in dock mode though does it?

There's an app which will place it in dock mode whenever its being charged. Down side is like I said "whenever" its being charged. Just gotta look for the app.
I'm waiting to see if it will put it into dock mode.
i will be watching this thread
Just ordered it about 2 minutes ago ... will report back once I get it
No. I don't think it puts it into dock mode automatically. I had the one for the Evo and that did not put it into dock mode. But I liked it because I did not have to remove my cover every time I put it in the dock. This one looks like it will also accommodate it for those that have an extended battery case..
The Nightclock app puts the phone in its own landscape alarm clock mode when it detects the phone is charging.
Just got mine. It works great with the Active X cases for standard and extended batteries. There is an attachment that snaps into the dock for when you're not in a case. It works perfectly!
Does it automatically turn the dock mode on?

it works great with the high gloss silicone case from Verizon.

I can't tell you for sure because I'm running a Sense 3 preview ROM with no working dock mode as of right now (they are working on a fix.) I may grab a dock mode app from the market in the meantime. It does rotate all my apps though.
Does the dock have an audio jack on it?
If not, can you still plug headphones into it, while on the dock?
I just found this on the Brodit homepage:
NEW! Passive holder with tilt swivel
Item no 511377
EAN: 7320285113770
Item no 511377 fits:
HTC One X S720e (For all countries)
http://brodit.se/product.html?id=511377&pn=prod&brand=HTC&model=One X S720e
Will wait for the active one which I haven't seen out yet. They will hopefully do one with Molex connection too.
I've used this system on about my last 7 or 8 HTC phones and its simply the best.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Does it come in white?
I've previously bought 2 Brodit docks, one passive and one active. Thats about £55 so far. As nice sa they are, I'm not wasting any more money on expensive car docks.
I understand only passive holder is released so far. Brodit normally release active holders a week or so later.
I had the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and used the specific Brodit passive holder for that device. I tried my One X in it and hey presto - it fits that holder too !
Imho, passive portrait docks are no good for the ONE X, the usb charges is on the left and the stereo jack on top. Unless you have a BT car radio, this would look ridiculously stupid if all was plugged.
I have seen this one on ebay, but I am not sure if the quality will be good enough and how hard it will be to fit in the phone and take it out again:
http://www.ebay.ch/itm/Support-voiture-Rotatif-pour-HTC-One-X-small-/130675791379?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_23&hash=item1e6ce25613#ht_1750wt_1163
They send from HKG, so it might be worth waiting just a little longer until anybody else makes a decent unofficial car dock...
the active holder is up on that site now

Doesn't use the molex on the back, instead having a micro usb connection on the side.
Hoping it would have the molex connection being honest, looks a bit ****

In either case the image would be wrong. I do not see a micro usb connection where the port on the phone is. There is a sort of "block" near the place where the pin connectors are on the phone, but it does not look very well positioned either.
Besides, what do they mean with "active"? I thought that the car mode could be activated only with the pins, not with the usb cable, or am I missing something? I have had this phone for 3 or 4 days, so I might still be missing half of the options

No, you are right, it's as wrong as some of the cheap docking station pics I saw in a docking station thread. Looks really ugly too this mount.
And I think a mere USB plug wont activate the Car mode...
Feel free to head to the other thread to post car mounts if you find em!

hi what model of nexsus fits? cheers
GSM matey, standard battery etc etc
Consider this: The official HTC car holder uses micro USB at the moment. Nothing uses the POGO pins as yet. If the HTC one doesnt even activate car mode then it's a bit of a swizz.
I doubt the brodit one would in any case, but I think they can be modified to do so.
EDIT : Also be aware that the picture of it is just a placeholder as the device in the holder blatantly isnt a HOX

That is interesting news. If there is no contact with the pins there must be something else that is switching the car-mode, or else it would activate even when charging from the wall, which is not the case.
It switches to car mode and also activates Bluetooth too which is convenient for me

Thats quite amazing! BTW what is the brand of your car kit? The original one??
Link to pics of my car dock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25045678&postcount=28
and it's the original HTC car dock
HTC car docks have done this for years. They do something funny to the micro usb port to send an additional signal. It can be self modified I think. Good to know though

That doesn't look right to me . The USB connection is in the wrong place for the HOX. And anyway, this doesn't appear on the official Brodit site.

i'm presuming you didnt read the site, which explicitly states this is a stock image as the holder hasn't been released yet?
So, this might sound crazy, but is there a way to enable car mode without a dock? The reason I ask is once my Trident Kraken AMS case gets here I'll be mounting it to my motorcycle with a bike clip and I thought it would be nice to use one of the car mode apps.
Just a thought.

Yes. All Car Home apps are regular apps, which can be launch via an icon.
You could also buy an nfc tag and have the app launch automatically.

I guess I should clarify a little. What I was thinking is there a way to make the phone think its in the dock to get the features that come from that.
Thanks again.

Check out the car dock thread in accessories. Click on the attachments. Efrant uploaded the car dock and car mode apks.
Edit: Heres the linkhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=1396051 Downoad the googlecarandhomedock.apk
You can also set the Car Home app to launch when paired to a bluetooth device in settings.

For the full experience, you can also install the modded NFC.apk that allows NFC access with the screen off (one version), or anytime the screen is on, including the lock screen (other version), here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709586
Thus you can put an NFC sticker on any car mount you want and have it go into car dock mode as if using the POGO pins, even without using them and paying the extra premium for car docks with those.
Is there a car dock made specifically for the S3 that has a USB connection that will automatically enable car mode.
I had one for my Atrix but I can't seem to find one for the S3.

Anyone.

I haven't seen one as of yet. there are some nice Samsung brand car docks though, and although its not exactly what you are looking for couldn't you use one of those NFC tec tiles to put it in car mode, maybe attach it right to a dock?
If you find one, please toss up a link...
The Samsung Infuse car dock that AT&T has works for it. Won't fit with a case on but it does enable the car dock and it fits perfectly. It was on sale for 17 bucks not long ago.
The US Galaxy S2 had a dock like this. The things that Samsung does just doesn't make sense.

Tasker is awesome, but Llama is a great alternative as well for those looking for a free solution.

+1
The Infuse dock automatically starts my car app (Car Home Ultra) and the USB charging and 3.5mm audio out work flawlessly. Only downside is the fact that it won't work with a case, as the previous poster mentioned, but I use a Diztronic TPU style case that takes seconds to remove and put back on so I don't mind it at all.
I use an NFC sticker, with NFC Task Launcher, to initiate (and terminate) car dock mode.
The dock that works is the Infuse 4G car dock. I bought mine from AT&T for $17.99, but it's sold out now. Amazon has it in stock for $29.99. I'm not aware of a better price at the moment, but I'd search and look for the best price.
I'm using a Brodit active charge cradle with an NFC tag (NFC Launcher kicking off a Tasker profile). By far the best & most secure cradle I've seen or used, but not cheap (about £50 all up).
I have an ibolt car mount for my previous Galaxy s3 that i want to use with my LG but it does not seem to work.
I use tasker to recognize when the phone is docked, and that would work with the s3 but when placing in the LG, its not triggering my tasker profile.
Any ideas?

It sounds like the magnetic sensor was in a different location for the S3. I checked my LG and it looks like the sensor is located next to the volume rocker, about a 1/2 inch from the edge of the phone.
I was thinking of getting the same dock. How is the fit?
Fit is great. I thought the device goes into car mode based on the usb plug. What sensor are you referring to?

So far, every phone I've had has a magnetic sensor (or two) built into them that controls car mode or desk dock mode.. When you put the phone in the car dock, there is a small magnet embedded in the dock that trips the phone's sensor and causes car mode to start.
You can demonstrate this for yourself by placing a magnet against the back of your phone near the volume rocker. If the magnet is strong enough the car will start up the car dock app.
Thanks for the info on the fit. I may purchase one and setup Tasker to start car mode when the phone is connected my car bluetooth and plugged into the dock.
----
I just read a review on this dock and it mentioned a special cable and power adapter that is required for the S3 to recognize car mode. That's probably why it doesn't work with the LG. I don't think there is any support for that built into the LG.
This may be kind of late but I suppose you could get a NFC sticker and stick it to the dock using that to trigger the settings.

I was using the magnet to enable the Car Dock mode, but after JB, that is gone. Now I use Car Home and use the active car dock on Bluetooth. Other Item I didn't like with JB and Car Dock is that when in Car Dock mode the lock screen would go landscape, after JB it will not rotate.
