what is up with this recovery? This is the 2nd time I have put a new rom on my phone, went into recovery, wiped and lost EVERYTHING on my phone! including the rom of course.
The first time I just used the regular wipe which is supp to wipe system/chache/dalvik...factory reset..well that wiped something, but not the whole system, becuase the new rom had all my old apps, wallpaper, even the same lockscreen choice. 2nd wipe I wiped data....everything gone
Now I had to again ODIN baack to stock but have no IMEI
Why did they change all this? It was so simple, wipe chache, dalvik, format system and factory reset...none of these EVER wiped any root files on my sd...now they do...WHY!?

Because in the new version of TWRP they changed the placement and layout of
the WIPE option in such a way that that unless you are very careful, the format
sdcard is right next and looks to be part of wipe options.

And people say that TWRP is more "user friendly". I would recommend that you use CWM, its simple and reliable.

Could you please explain why you say this? Is it just personal preference of what you like better, or do you have a reason behind it?
People are always recommending one or the other, but I never see an explanation as to why. I'm honestly just curious.

Just from personal experience. Problems with flashing ROMs with twrp.
Don't get me wrong, I like twrp and how you don't have to use the volume rocker and power button to select things. But cwm is just simple and straight forward.
I keep bouncing back between the two recoveries, I like them both. I don't really care for the recent update if twrp and how the options have been moved around, I think it makes it less "user friendly".

My only question with TWRP is if there is a definite fix yet for the ext sd not mounting on recovery

You completely took my post out of context. I wasn't asking what the difference was or what the average person thinks of a specific recovery. I was asking him to explain why HE recommends CWM. So unless he previously posted a thread about his thoughts about the different recoveries, search would be no help.
As you said, "most" people recommend TWRP. And he was recommending CWM. Instead of confusing users with people always recommending a different recovery, I was just saying it would be helpful if users gave an explanation when recommending a specific recovery to another user.
That's all. Carry on.

I've never been able to get TWRP to not spaz out on me. It likes to pretend you hit the back button when you didn't. Dev doesn't know what's wrong with it. People have reported this bug in the past, but not lately. They either gave up on trying, or don't want to deal with the rabid fan boys. Timezone implementation is silly and over thought. Layout is weird.
Nobody uses CWM. We all use CWM Touch. CWM layout is balls terrible. Seriously, fix it. Koush is a mad genius, unsure why layout is so bad. But it has not one time failed me. File manager would be nice.
User error doesn't make TWRP a bad recovery.
+Cool story, bro!

So, I flashed Caulks new EK02 Rom, and, when I went to restart, phone is stuck on boot screen; Wiped everything as normal before flashing, but stuck on the yellow triangle screen.
I tried all the normal stuff to get into recovery, but phone won't go past the initial boot screen.
I have a mac computer, and thats all there are in the house, so I can't use Odin..
Can someone help me get the phone back to a state where it starts up?
Thanks so much for your help!

First of all, this is the ONLY thread I made for this question; I made a post in the thread where the rom was located to make the dev aware of the issue
I'll be watching you closely, for when you have a serious issue and ask for help, to make sure you don't post it more than once..
And, BTW, I used Heimdall on my own, without your suggestion; I've been flashing phones for longer than you've probably been on this earth...

Nowadays the rule of thumb is to never use ROM manager to install cwm unless its specifically stated to do so by devs for that particular model. I've seen it cause too many bricks. It may work but it may also brick u. U are better off using the recovery provided here.

Well, if you've checked the IMEI thread and read my posts I've done quite a lot today using TWRP. Even restored back to stock unrooted via Odin straight from JB AOKP. I'm not sure if it's how CWM does something with the partitions or what. I used TWRP because there weren't any reports, so I wanted to test and see.

I made this for Micronads but thought I would post it for everyone to benefit from. This is a zip that will wipe cache, data, system and dalvik. This is meant to be a quick pre-wipe for flashing roms. You would flash this first and then the rom right after. This wipes data but will not wipe the /data/media folder. So your pics, music etc... will be safe. Basically everything in /sdcard will not be wiped.
Download: http://goo.im/devs/crawrj/Android/ATT_GS3/CWM-Wipe-All-GS3.zip
Thanks for this! Also whats the benefit using your script instead of doing all this manually aside from saving time? Is it a better wipe or something?

Just meant to save time. I think the recovery wipes have been fixed to not wipe /data/media. I know twrp has. I haven't tried CWM. That would be the only other benefit if they did wipe media. But I am almost certain they don't.

Just... remember to follow the steps provided for you. Always keep a good backup. And when possible, check md5 sums.
I've seen this increasingly in the last few weeks, but ALWAYS double check to make sure you are flashing a ROM made for the correct device.
Toooo many bricks lately.. even a few vets.
Also, no offense, but the previous iphone people that I have had the pleasure to help -- they seem to think that things are going to be done for them somehow.
Its good to remember: You are responsible for what you download and flash.
I've seen you in the Jedi thread, and technically -- You are not a "noob", but rather a "newb" -- if you like signifiers.
just my $0.02.
Oh... haha, and I agree. Flash away and find what you like best!! Everyone is different. There will never be a "best" ROM to everyone

Found this Mod for reducing lag.... maybe it will help someone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280496
Please note that the original author said it was made for TWRP recovery only.....so please note that before trying
Also some people say it works some say it doesn't or has a pseudo effect so experiences vary (I think people below 4.3 ROMs may feel some improvement) so it may or may not help you if you are experiencing some lag.....so share your thoughts
Why would you post something showing a mod that you have not tried yourself and hope that a member is going to try it for you and post results, imo, that is not cool.
You found it, try it yourself and let us know if it works.
Not trying too be a ****, but I remember this carp happening on older phones and people were bricking their phones for people posting stuff to try out.
