I had purchased the back for a galaxy S3 for using the Palm Pre touchstone charger. It worked, but the phone did not "Lock" on the charger, and would slip and slide, losing its contact. i stopped using it as a result.

I had a sister problem to yours. I've always used the Otterbox Commuter case. I know it bulks up the phone, but the protection has saved my phone from many a falls. I bought the same wireless charging solution (back with Palm Pre touchstone) for $50 off ebay and I was hoping it'd work through the cover. I was a bit too optimistic with that hope. Without the case, it didn't slip too much, but it was slicker than I thought it should be.
Since I didn't want to be out $50 (and since I had an extra touchstone charger from when I had a Palm Pre back in the day *sigh of nostalgia*), I went into DIY mode and busted out my Rotary Tool. After a lot of measuring, I cut a hole in the back of my case exactly in the correct location. Now my phone locks into the Touchstone and stays there without any problems. Some might do a double-take on my phone, but I'm an engineer, my mantra is "function over form."
I was going to do a progress set, but I didn't have a good setup to do that, so here's a couple of "finished product" shots. I could clean up the edges of the opening a little bit, but it works well as is.
I really like how well this works.
Edit: Oh, and obviously this will reduce the protection that the case provides, but it's saved my phone from some pretty major falls, so it's not completely compromised.
When I unplugged my phone it said switching from wired to wireless charging

anybody know what the pins on the back of the battery cover are for? it looks like what you would find on a phone capable of inductive charging. if so, anybody figure out how to do it?
They act as an antenna, dont **** with them
hmm ok. ill have to try it with the cover off to see its actually the antenna but ill take your word for now.

it does when i was playing with my phone without the backcase on i had no service
I only get 2G service when the back cover is off. I think it has something to do with the antenna as well.
I actually was wondering what the pins were for. I just took my back cover off and immediately dropped all signal.
thats kinda weird to have an antenna in the back cover. maybe they plan to release a new back cover that will improve strength? i cant seem to understand why.
Its just the design. And it saves space on the device.

inductive charging would be great for our phones, i know the palms do it!
So anyone want to do the palm pre inductive charging hack. I think it has been done on a hd2
Sent from my HTC Aria
HTC states that the battery cover of the aria is the antenna on their website under troubleshooting:
My device shows “No Service” but I know that there is coverage at my location. close
The antenna for this device is embedded in the battery cover. If the battery cover is not installed correctly, securely affixed, or if it has been damaged, this could be the cause of the device not picking up on a signal.
You can find this on www(dot)htc(dot)com/us/support/aria-att/help/phone

lol, it tells it's an antenna in the manual, I know, I'm like, the one guy that still reads those...
Anyone know if there is a release date for this yet?
The last rumored release date was April, so who knows. Have you seen the price though? $40 for the battery cover and $70 for the pad, ouch. And it adds a little hump to the back of your phone
I was wondering the same thing, I've been waiting for a wireless charging setup.

Yea that price is rough. The problem is that I have very little to no reception at work and it just eats my battery. I keep my phone plugged in while I am at my desk but take my phone with me when I leave so I am plugging and unplugging thirty times a day...

Same. Ill definitely be buying the wireless charging stuff. Checked my phone.. time without signal 91% eeeeek lol
Where do you look that up?
If you're at 91% something is wrong, also the pad is a one time investment it will work with any device that you get the cover for, so you can charge this phone and then your next phone so the price isn't as bad as it seems when you consider a new OEM charging cable is like 20$
I wonder if the QI inductive battery cover will be compatible with an old palm touchstone charger? Those are super cheap right now. Or if it would be as simple as doing a touchstone cover/charger combo conversion similar to the ones done with the EVO, but simpler because the contacts are visible on the inside of the case?
Just me thinking aloud but I would love to see if there is any interchangeability with these standards and googling isn't turning up much.

I've tried this, but when I have them both in my cart, the pad shows up as $52.49 and the Cover is still $29.99
And it won't allow you to add the Charging Pad to your cart if you have the Thunderbolt selected as your phone. I had to select the LG Revolution to be able to add the pad to the cart.

I had the same problem, after chatting extensively with an agent i was told there is an issue with these, they issued a help ticket and it should be fixed tomorrow. She also said the induction cover fits both standard and extended battery.

Both? Really... I may just get this then...
i'm still waiting for them to allow us to charge our phones wirelessly just carrying the phone around on us and not have to rely on barbaric electrical outlets.
I called vzw customer care and after a bit of a workaround and speaking to internet support he just had me go ahead and purchase the charging pad for $52.99 after my 25% off discount and then went into account and added the charging door at $0.00 and noted the reason

I don't see how it could work with the extended battery. There isn't enough of a bump for this cover to work. The bump we do see in the pics is for the parts added to the cover to make the wireless charging work. I did just order it though and had no problems with adding it to my cart. Hope i get it by friday.
I received this combo last night. While I do not own an extended battery I can confidently say this won't work with it. The hump in the inductive replacement cover houses the hardware that allows the charging process to work. No room for anything else.
That being says it works flawlessly. Put the cover on, plug the pad in, put the phone down, the pad beeps and away it goes.
Only downside is that it adds thickness and will require me to mod my car charging cradle for the phone to fit with this cover.

Had a feeling about not working with the extended. Thanks for the info
How do you find the charging when compared to plugging in phone directly? Does it take longer?
Thanks,
Bryan
Sorry, but I just put it down and walked away. I think it was around 50% when I put it down and charged to 100% when I grabbed it like 2 or 3 hours later. But I'm totally guessing. No solid stats recorded yet.
Tonight Ill put it on there and record how much she charges in an hour.
Will they honor this deal in store? I would probably buy it if there was a case that would fit the battery and still allow wireless charging.

Looking at the lil idiots guide that came with the pad, it says it outputs at 1000ma. so it should charge it just as fast as a physical connection.
My output says 500ma. It's pretty slow. This came off the HTC door instructions and not the LG mat instructions.
I had to modify my otterbox case for it to fit by removing the padded backing in the shell.
I also do not get a full charge. It gets to 100 but when I take it off it jumps right down to 95. Anyways I know the last 10% is truly based on efficiency but I would say that inductive is not the most efficient means when compared to conductive.
Bottomline: cool idea, would I have paid full price, probably not.

I plugged my S III on the charger last night before I had gone to bed. This morning the phone wasn't on and so I thought maybe the charger had gone bad. So I put in my spare Samsung battery. The phone still didn't boot. So I took the battery out and plugged the phone into the computer to see if it would come on. Nothing. I've been running a rooted stock ROM, specifically the one that didn't trip the flash counter. Any ideas?
Was there a storm the night you left it plugged in?
from my AOKP galaxy s3
It could be a short circuit.
What is why I do not plug in all my chargers directly to the wall...
Use a UPS with builtin circuit protector and ground before plugging in your expensive GS3 or iPad 3 or whatever other gadgets you might have.
No, there was no storm. Clear skies all around. The phone gets warm at the bottom like it is charging, but nothing comes on.

Nope. Got it June 25th.
Return to Samsung, the warranty period is one year. You can read more on Warranty Guide (that come with the phone) what is covered and what's not.
Good luck :good:
I knew there was a one year warranty. Was hoping a ota update broke it and I could fix it. Not been my day. Blown suspension on my car this morning.

Well the phone isn't turning on at all so I'm not terribly sure how they'd figure out it was rooted. Also, where is the model code? Not the model name, SGH I747. Samsung's site was asking for it and the choices were something like SGHI747MBAATT.

This is exactly why I installed a whole house surge protector, as well as each outlet in my house are individually surge protected. They cost more when I was building the house, but worth the additional $1K I spent upgrading all my outlets.

Those are what each outlet has. My home theater has a seperate monster 7 outlet protector.

Sounds like a good idea when I decide to have my house built!
Oh that's just neat. And AT&T would not outright exchange it, but I talked to their warranty dept. and they are sending me a new one and I'll out the old one in the box to send back to them. Guy I spoke to said he waived the few for the two day shipping. While I was glad, I couldn't help but feel like not giving warranty issues two day shipping for free to begin with is a bit of a ripoff. My device broke and I may have to wait more than a week to get a new one? Wth?
So it's September - where is the wireless charger?
Seems to have been forgotten!!!
You know if they released this on day 1 I would have bought it with the phone but now I had time to think I just don't want or need it.
So I honestly hope almost no one buys this thing so Samsung doesn't have these ridiculous delays in the future.

I wouldn't have cared as much if they actually "delayed" the alt color choices, but for that to have happened they would've had to let people know their would actually be color choices other then White and "Blurple" before or around launch. Not after selling numerous millions of devices........
Id've held off on the Blurple had I known a Black or Silver were in the works, but the news came long after my 30 days were up.

Colours are just superficial problems and just an annoyance more than a problem, but not being able to get 32 or 64gb versions still after 3 months is inexcusable since Samsung stupidly didn't include moving Apps to external SD.
This is embarassing, even nokia gets the wireless charging earlier on the market.

Don't buy it. No case on the planet will work with it. I've had it for a week now.
If you don't want to use a case and buy this kit, Just go to the Verizon store and ask them to get it from the back.
Mine is sitting on my desk right now. Works perfectly. VZW is selling the LG charging pad on their website. I had to go to ebay for a couple of the wireless charging doors, but they work great. I have a pebble blue, so I affixed the white charging element to the back of my Defender and it works perfectly with the case on. I could not be happier with the convenience.

The wireless charging is built into the battery door. Verizon probably didn't have them instock so he bought them online.

I have a 32 gig version, verizon branding, bought it about 3 weeks ago...
I've never seen/used wireless charger and wondering how much output does it provide? The stock wall charger is not able charge the phone when the phone is being heavily used, such as video call (GTalk/Skype) over cell network and GPS active. What are the chances that the phone has to be totally idle and nothing running in the background for the wireless charger being able do it's job?

Is it the full battery cover replacement or just the inductive pad itself to put under the stock cover? Looks like just the pad itself sitting on a charging station. Not that is mind that one bit so long as it didn't bulge the case much. Been tempted to buy the Verizon covers and peeling the pads off to do just that actually
I have the Verizon cover, on AT&T phone and it works great except for that the NFC does not work , there is an extra contact that is only available on the Verizon version not sure why that is

They merely announced them, none of the new gear is actually available yet.
FOR REAL...... how hard is it if all the hackers on here have modified them and the damn factory can't? I have no desire to physically mod this phone, even though I've got a car in the garage with a ridiculous amount of work done to it - I like to mod things like this but I'm really hoping Samsung can figure this out soon so I don't have to resort to it!
