When you plug in the USB, you should get a menu that asks if you want to use activesync or disk drive. Do you get this screen?
You may have a bad USB port. The TP2 is know to have this issue - I just had to return mine after 6 months for a warranty replacement because the USB port went bad.

What "shop" did it just come back from?
In Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC, what checkboxes are selected/not selected?
Do you have 'Ask me first....' selected & 'Enable faster data synchronization' un-selected?
sounds like ur usb port is fried. flash stock rom via SD,relock and get it replaced.

Your USB plug, or the micro end on the phone..very sensitive right there I hate it, and try switching ports on the compt'r. I am on my 4th USB chord from sprint?
Flash away!lol
Also with device connected go into control panel, device manager, find samsung Android under other or in USB ports. Click it and click update drivers...may take 20 minutes or so to get all the drivers from Windows Update.

Link is broken.
My drivers failed to install but I am still able to flash it and access my memory card with the usb cable. I tried the samsung drivers directly from there site, also tried others from links in the forum all to no luck. Just let the computer do its thing when you first plug it in, reboot and then try to do what you want.

I had this problem where it wouldn't recognize my phone with USB debugging on. Make sure you are using the same port you installed the drivers on. If that doesn't work then go into control panel>system>device manager and see what it is connected as. It should be Samsung Android in USB or OTHER. Click on that and hit Update Drivers and choose from Windows Update and let it do it's thing....takes a while. Reboot and you should be good.
i got an S3.. and my computer has xp pro. i had to restore my computer recently from a saved image of my system. before i restored my computer, i was able to connect my S3 to it via USB with no problem. but after i restored it, i'm unable to.
i downloaded and installed the MTP driver, which got my computer to recognize my phone before i restore it. but now its not working and i dont see it listed in Device Manager. whats weird is that when i connect my S3 to my computer, the phone doesnt give any notifications that the phone is connected to USB like it used to before. and it also doesnt give me the 2 options of connecting by either MTP or Camera. all it does is charge my phone. how do i fix this?

You also might get the pdanet usb driver and install that in your PC in order to get the usb to recognize an internet access via USB.
You should be able to download the USB driver from PDANet's website.
Just a "maybe" thought. Hope it helps!
You might first want to check this link out:

Hi, I am needing some help. I connect my A5 to my laptop but a pop up from Win10 says that doesn't recognize the usb device. And continue saying that the last usb device connected didn't work correctly and windows didn't recognize it.
I think this happened after installing ADB and some other things like ZX3 to try to unlock my A5 and then uninstalled them, so perhaps I deleted some drivers in the process.
Can you suggest any solution for me to try?
Thanks in advance!!!!

Try connecting your device and then deleting its drivers in the device manager. After that reconnect it and it should show up as normal. Let me know if it helped
No, already tried that. Same message. Thanks!
I tried another usb port on my laptop, and recognize the phone. I don´t know we after some cel phone configurations I lost connection and recognition.
I tried again the first port and touch some items in the developers option, set the MTP protocol and now it seems working.
I stil don´t understand what I have to do to establish a good connection for every time I need it.
Regards.
Hi all. I'm back because I stll have the same problem. Can't connect A5 to laptop. The message says that there is a bad descriptor. It is the 43 error code from window 10. I tried downloading lastest Samsung drivers that comes in an .exe file and installed them. But same error.
Even trying to update the error driver to the lastest samsung usb driver, window says it already has the latest drivers and do not installed them.
Every suggestion from searching in google tried. Don't know what else can I do!!!!
Thanks for your suggestions!!!!!

SOLUTION!!!!!
I was using an old usb type-A cable with a usb type-a to type-c adapter. I tried using the original Samsung cable and it worked!!!!
I can believe this was the problem!!!
Hope I can help another with this! Thanks to all for your support!!!
Hi, I continue finding problems to connect A5 with Laptop. After finding the original problem was the cable, I now use always the original cable.
The problem is that the phone doesn't appear in windows explorer unless I go to developer options and set the USB configuration from RNDIS (Ethernet USB) to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). After that, a pop-up appears asking for permission for data access. I have to agree with the pop up to see the phone in the laptop.
I think I have to change permissions to granted for ever the MTP. Am I right? Where do I have to set it?
Thanks in advance!!!!
New update!! I have just chat with Samsung. The told me to dial *#0808#. That access the USBSettings options. There I changed the default to MTP + ADB.
Now I no longer need to access the development options. It still appears the pop up, asking for permission, but for now I can live with that!!!
