Hi, I've been trying to use Wifi Tether for the d2spr and I can't seem to get it working correctly. Here is the output of `tether start`, `tether stop`, and `tetherdebug.sh` which is a script put together by TrevE.
This should be enough information to figure this out, but I don't see why some of these errors are showing up.
Thanks in advance.
Self bump. Internet is down at my house so I really need this working!

No dice. It "started with errors" and it always fails when "Configuring AP with Maxclient" and "Starting AP...". Everything else comes out Done though.
Here's the logcat when pressing start. https://gist.github.com/anonymous/a8594d0c0be781e3c5d9
Check your Superuser app. When I updated it installed Superuser..The TrevE mod only works with SuperSU. After reinstalling SuperSU mine works fine again.

Same thing. No difference.
Hhmm. I didn't pay attention if he changed the internal version numbers or not with the different releases when he was trying to get it to work right with the GS3's, but when I bring up the about screen it says, 3.2-beta2-modv5 ***Synergized***
In Setup-Method select Netd-Ndc(master). And Wifi Driver reload 2. Also press menu and Select "install binaries".
Also disable Sprint connection optimizer.

It should be up to date. The version numbers shouldn't matter because others have got it working. I have all of the log information in this thread. All we have to do is figure out what the source of the errors is.

Just tried this. Native tether allows me to connect to it, but no data is transferred.
EDIT: Tried this using "Native Framework Tether" and I could connect, but again, no data. Also, SSID was changed from what I set it as, to "TetherFallback"
Well I'm not using AOSP now, but check if it have any kind of access control.

With the newer version of TrevE mod, it comes with a way to make use of that method, while still able to use access control and show the amount of data, if I'm not mistaken. Didn't work.

I am running rooted stock 4.0.4 IMM76K with FC04/FC05 radios on a Verizon Nexus. I can not get the stock tethering or wifi tether to work. Both turn on without errors but none of my computers see the signal. I have always used wifi tether on other phones and not seen an issue. I have searched around but I can't seem to find anyone with my issues. Any suggestions?
I would try using an app like foxfi or pdanet. Both work well for wifi tethering. Also, both have the ability to hide tethering usage. You may have to sideload these apps, i believe Verizon wont let you get to them anymore. Also, I would no blow through my data allowence if I were you. This might cause them to get look a little more carefully at your data usage.
Try tetherbee.
It worked for me.
U must search online for it though.

Verizon still allows my mom to tether for free.
Even she'll get in trouble if she gets caught.
Would this be a rom or kernel issue? It doesn't seem to be a application issue? Many others have used both the options I have tried already without issues on the Nexus

Do this, go to Google Play and download (WiFi Tether For Root Users) open the app go to settings, 1) Change device-Profile to Generic ICS. 2) Change Setup-Method to Netd (master). Now go back and click on the big WiFi icon to start tethering, soon as the system finds the device pull down the notification and authorize it, make sure the Access-Control is enabled., your're all set, good luck.

I guess this will encourage him to ROOT, one of the perks you get being rooted.
T mobile can be a real pain in the ass with blocking tethering. I don't believe the app matters best way I know to get around it is to change the user agent on the computer and do not use internet explorer. I believe chrome and firefox have plugins for that.
I tried FoxFi on a non-rooted stock t999, doesn't work. Sends out the wifi signal, but the computer never actually connects to it. Keeps giving me some kind of error when trying to connect to wifi.
Using the built in tether wifi option, I can connect to the wifi being supplied by the sgs3, but any web activity takes me to the t-mobile hotspot sign up page.
OP use firefox, not chrome to tether. seriously.
and you can try downloading the 'tether' app from the clockworkmod website. google it.
I tether my nexus 7 from my sgs3 with foxfi and its really simple. Just make sure u install pdanet on the device u want to tether. I'm doing a tether with Bluetooth.

Very interesting, i use wifi tether for root users and after using for awhile i get a push message saying i need to stop tethering or it will be blocked, and then i recieve another saying it has been blocked, its a push message so im wondering if t-mobile has a app hidden inside the touchwiz rom to make sure it cant tether... sigh
Hi!
I just installed Foxfi app. on my phone. I noticed there is also an app. called "Foxfi AddOn" and according to the description it provides some optional features to the Foxfi application.
Has anyone installed this app? The reason I am asking this question is because I noticed that by agreeing to install this app., personal information is accessed ("general info about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private info").
The above quote I got when I press to "install" the app., so I would appreciate any feedback/advice on installing this app. Thanks!

I had this working for a bit, then had to reflash, and can't get it working again. Those of you that have it working, are you using superuser or supersu? One-click or the original tar leak?
ive tried three times to get this working i think the problem ive got is with the connection manager, can some one please explain how to disable it,i know this makes me sound stupid but an actual video would be cool too, any help would be appreciated, thank you8 i finallygot it working thank god jelly bean rocks and thanks for all the help, to disable connection manager i used tb 4,75 hopefully after i load apps it will work
I'm not on the leak anymore... But if I remember right...
Menu, settings, more (near the top under Wifi settings and such), connection manager, disable (uncheck box).
Again I only used fk23 for less than 24 hours so I don't remember the exact options.. Anyway, that would definitely be the reason why it's not working for you.

So I finally managed to get it working... I had to disable 4G or else my wifi devices would not see the SSID being broadcast by my phone. Once on 3G, my devices can now see the SSID broadcast and join the network. Interestingly enough, once the devices are successfully connected to the network, I can then enable 4G to use the additional bandwith.

That is a very odd scenario. Worked perfect for me..
Now that the devices can see your network and are connected to 4G can you turn the network off and on again and will they auto connect? Or do you need to revert to 3g every time? That would be a huge PITA

Yes, it seems I only have to connect while on 3G once, then I can freely start and stop the network on 4g.
LIFESAVER! I played with FK23 for about a day but couldn't deal with the lack of 4G hotspot. So I had gone back to FI27 with the hotspot mod 'til I could find something like this. Works like a charm! Actually, my up and down speeds have increased from the FI27 hack, oddly. Stable Jellybean with working 4g tethering? I'll take it!
FYI: I just selected the device model along with the rest of the settings provided in the OP and it worked fine.

After stopping and ending a Tether session I can NOT re-engage WiFi mode unless Reboot.

You Sprint Connection Optimizer needs to be Off. In Jelly Beans stock/custom roms it will turn On even if you set it to Off, you must freeze it with Titanium Backup.

So I know there are quite a few threads out there about wifi tether. The general concensus is that WiFi Tether is the best app to use, however I've found that very particular settings are needed to get this to work. While I am not a dev and have not had sucess in getting this app to work on our phone. I thought I would start a thread for those who have had success using the application in hopes that they could share their settings with the rest of us so we can take advantage of 4g as it continues to roll out. I have also tried Barnacle and not had any success either.
I found this on another thread, it was a couple pages deep so I'm reposting here, please swing over to other thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138144&highlight=wifi+tether&page=2 #13 and give jdock a thanks for his fix. This works, but there is currently a bug in JB that only allows one tether session per boot. Once you disable wifi tether, it will not work again until you reboot the device
TY jdock
Try this:
device profile = generic ics/jb (wlan0)
setup method = netd-ndc (master)
wifi driver reload = checked
enable wifi encryption = unchecked (you can enable it later when it's working unencrypted)
enable access-control = unchecked (you can enable it later when the basics are working)
Now, when I first started with this app, my devices would connect to the AP but then give up because they couldn't get a dhcp address. I found that if I went into the 'change lan' menu and picked a different lan, that it started working (I currently use 10.10.3.0/24).
If you can't get it working, I came up with another method you may be able to use that does not use any app (I have the at&t model but it's probably the same). Basically you turn off wifi, then run a few commands (as root) that bring the wifi interface back up without disabling mobile data. It will connect to your local wireless lan as if you had enabled wifi. Then you can run a socks or http proxy and point your other device at it (easy if you're wanting to tether a pc, maybe not so easy if you're using something else). I haven't tried yet to see if it will route between the networks, which would mean you can just manually change your default gateway to your phone's wlan address and have all traffic go through it.

I hope you get some answers. I haven't been able to get this app to work on by GNex on JB 4.2.1 OR 4.2.2 using 4 different ROMs. The app doesn't seem to have been updated in many months, and I'm assuming that it won't work on JB in any form.

I'm on a JB rom now, and it does work. See the directions I posted from another thread in the OP and wifi tether will work. However, once you turn off wifi tether you will need to reboot the phone for wifi and data to function normally.
Even when Wi-Fi tether runs "with errors" it still works... for some reason my phone doesn't heat up as much when I run with errors -- probably had something to do with the Wi-Fi driver that the app reloads.

My wifi tether setup has no issues with data not working and I can turn it off and on without problems. I've used the phone for calls, texts, and internet after using wifi tether. The only issue is that you cannot turn wifi on after running tether. Once rebooted wifi will turn back on until I use tether again. I'm on a stock rooted JB rom.
Generic ics/jb Wlan0
Netd ndc master
Send Netd max client cmd checked
wifidriver reload checked
Router fix checked
Wifi fix checked
I have access control checked as well but that doesn't matter.
I've yet to be able to get this app working. I've tried these setting before and several other settings to no avail. When I try these, everything but the first item in the log and the last two say they failed. Now it does broadcast it's SSID and I can join the network, but there is no data connection.
I'm on stock Jelly Bean rom. The funny thing is, I used Wifi tether app on Lifeless and Imperium and it worked with a few different settings.
Check your version. I use WIFI Tether TrevE Mod.
Mine version is 3.2-beta2-modv5 ***synergized***
I had similar issues until I found the right version to use. I never got regular Wifi Tether to work.

You got a link to that version I don't see it in the thread with all the other versions. All I see are versions dated 11/20 or 11/22, no beta's or anything called synergized that I see.

Thanks I'll let you guys know if it works.
Edit: Nah, still doesn't work with that copy with all the settings checked in the OP. Everything fails still.

By Changing some settings I can get everthing to work EXCEPT for the Nat Rules, that fails still. If someone can tell me how to fix that perhaps I can get this to work. Seems though the Nat Rules keeps my laptop from detecting the new network I made.

Glad to see other people are able to contribute. I'm not a developer so not much I can do except dig around other forums and see what helps. I'm using Imperium Initiative v2.0.1 with wifi tether, with the settings in my op. Maybe there are some adjustments in imperium/lifeless that cause this to work. I will try the file posted and report back to see if I can re-enable wifi after disabling tether.
BUMP!

Bump!
This one works for me with these settings:
Generic ics/jb Wlan0
Netd-Ndc (master)
Send Netd max client cmd - checked
Enable WiFi-Encryption - checked
WiFi-driver reload 2 - checked
Enable Access-Control - checked (If this is checked the first time the client connects, you have to grant it access from your phone. You'll notice a new icon on the top of your phone where all of your running program icons are. When you see it just pull down the list and select it and check your client and then hit apply)Routing fix - checked
Hope this helps
something probably worth mentioning on this, I'm currently on Lifeless 14, and the connections optimizer was screwing with this app. I turned it off and it worked like a charm.
Not of concern to anyone AOSP/AOKP/CM/PA but for stock/lifeless/imperium(i think) this is worth looking into for some folks.

These settings worked for me using the Stock Odex JB 4.1 rom. and the TrevE mod version below. I had to reboot first after installing the apk, and reload the binaries.
throttling
Well since it seems the tethering problem hasn't been remedied yet (touchy and have to restart), has anyone figured out a way to get around sprint's throttling? Unfortunately I for the life of me can't get my MSL, and also unfortunately I hate using the phone to call sprint. hrm.
May I suggest jellybeer? Tethering is built in!
