[Q] Searching for original ROM for backup. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody
Last week I have got this amazing device.
I a big fan of applying mods and roms for android devices. But before doing it I allways want to have a backup of original firmware. Just to flash it in case of I will need warranty. Because I had few times before, that after flashing mods and roms I didnt made a backup, and afterthat couldnt find an original firmware, so loosed warranty, and used to sell devices for a very cheap price because they were without warranty
I was searching by myself but cant find my stock rom and kernel on the internet. So Im asking for your help guys. Has any one seen this firmware?
here is a screenshot with all rom features.

cant wait for flashing all amazing roms and mods

Your ROM is
N7100XXDMB2 N7100OXXDMB1 - Download - Czech Republic
get it from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
find it under feb 13 release.
Greece, hungry, poland, nordic countries and Czech republic have same version, but as you have purchased from czech, go with that.

thank you very much pal
feel myself very stupid for not finding it on xda by myself
just got one question
this is a stock ROM. But what about kernel and modem?
does it has it included with ROM? or I should find it anywhere else?
If I will use some other ROMs, and then I decide to sell phone, I can flash it back and use some app like triangleaway, so warranty service wont found out that I flashed something before, yep?
Many many thanx for responses

That ROM file includes everything, once you flash that ROM file, your device will be back to stock completely.
Just one thing you need if you have to send for warranty.
When you flash custom kernel/recovery(CWM) your flash counter will raise (which voids warranty)
If you want to claim warranty you have to follow this steps
-Reflash stock recovery and kernel (you can find it on post #6 of thread i shown you in previous msg)
-Use triangle away to reset counter (post #3 of said thread have detail)
-Flash stock ROM which you have download as backup + factory reset, now this will be status when you have purchased.

yep, thats exactly what I was asking for
sorry for disturbing you with so many noobie questions.
how can I understand that stock recovery version in your post #6 will be same as now installed on my phone?
and if I wont find a proper version of stock recovery in post #6, can the warranty service find out that phone was moddified?
your help is absolutely great, many many thanX

Really there is no much difference between different latest stock recovery. Always prefer one from released in 2013
Another thing this recovery is transit and just for reseting counter, once you finish reseting counter just flash stock rom (one you have download now for backup ) then everything recovery,Kernel, rom will revert to complete stock. As well it unroot device too.

Yeah its issue from PayPal, to receive payments we needs to send request then only one can donate, but really its not issue, just enjoy, your smile is not less than a donation.

I want to return the phone to get a new one, but obviously I'm unable to due to rooting and installing a custom ROM, is there a way to get the original rogers ROM back so it will be unnoticeable that I've changed the ROM? If not what other options do I have?

You can find the stock firmware here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SGH-I747M&pcode=RWC&os=1&type=1#firmware
Also you might want Google around for "resetting the flash counter". If the flash counter is incremented it voids the warranty.

Thanks for the response. Do I install the stock ROM the same way as I did the custom one?
use odin to install stock rom...
Sorry, I'm not too familiar with phones. Can anyone post a link or step by step how to use Odin to flash it back to the original ROM? The only time I used Odin was to root my phone. Thanks in advance

GT-N5100 change ROM - bought in China

Dear all,
i am living in China and I receive the note 8 GT-N5100 for present... but as you may know in China, Android is customised with no google services and play store! impossible to choose language except korean, chinese and english (but all the samsung applications are much more chinese languages aware than english)...
So I try to change the chinese ROM with a european one last week end through Odin but it failed during the process (on the forum, it seems that a bootloader or something like is blocking the process) and I restore it through KIES.
i am now in a guerilla mode with my tablet as i will whatever it takes to break these chinese limitation and have a real international tablet.
i read that mobile Odin pro could be a solution? but through the device no appstore, so can't buy it (and seems that mobile odin is not covering yet note 8).
i am looking for your help on that, if you have any ideas, please help!
thanks
Questions first. Are you rooted? Can you use the root tools here to root your device? That will be a prerequisite for most things. If your trying to instal the google framework for play services Try the instructions on this link Make sure you use the manual installation method. I know this is for the kindle fire HD but the file structure should be similar and it will get ya up and running.
hi thanks for you reply.
i added a file named: CF-Auto-Root-kona3g-kona3gxx-gtn5100.tar.md5 through Odin on the table with no problem (red android robot as a pirate) and it has added superSU.
so i suppose that i have rooted it?
Try the v1,1 toolkit for the Note 8. You find if in the original android development Section. Install and follow the Instructions, You have to check if your version is supported, else you follow the instructions and send your version to the dev. Then wait for support. I found the toolkit great and easy to use. Just root and install custom recovery, and you will be good to go!

hope this will work with this crazy chinese rom.
is the toolkit will working with my build number: JZO54K. N5100ZCBMD2. the toolkit mentions build BMC9-BMD1?
as said the aim is to change the ROM.... sorry toask so much questions but first time i am doing that
thanks

Your rom ends with BMD2, therefore it's outside the span BMC9- BMD1. Follow the an screen instruktions, and send your version to the dev. He will add your version shortly, then you are able to run custom roms!

[Q] knox and rooting questions

Hey everyone. Im relatively new to this forum and rooting. I have some background knowledge in programming and other related aspects, unfortunately nothing related to Android. As well as some Linux OS experience. Now as far as i know ROM's could be compared to OS builds. Android 4.1.2, 4.3, 4.4, etc. Rooting makes you a super user/sudo like Linux. I think i have that pretty much correct. Now for the things i know little about.
-KNOX so far it seems its mostly used for enterprises and to see if we have installed a custom ROM. I've seen a lot of different information about Knox. What exactly else does it do/change? As of 4.3 i see we could no longer roll back or we will brick our device. What should i be wary of? I could care less about tripping the knox counter.
-Stock OTA is another thing i was curious about. This simply means an update was installed post factory by user, correct? My girlfriend has an S3 and i cant remember if 4.3 was stock or 4.1.2. I just wanted to clear up if my OTA updated S3 was covered under this.
-i saw one root method which kept the stock recovery but installed the superuser. What is the benefit for having a stock recovery? Would i be able to use a custom one with Knox in place? I was thinking of using a 4.4 cyanogenmod rom.
Sorry if this seems a bit noobish, but my schedule is tight and i spent maybe 6 hours trying to find exact information. Kind of hidden lol.
I appreciate any answers!

And to answer some if them.
There is no advantage to stock recovery, you can't do anything with it.
Yes you can do anything the same with Knox but installing a custom recovery triggers the warranty bit in Knox. If you bring in your phone to be repaired or something, if they put the phone in Download Mode they could tell whether you installed a custom recovery because Warranty Bit would say 1 instead of zero. There's also no way to reset the flash counter with Knox.
And the biggest thing, if you have Knox do not try to downgrade the firmware. Aka don't try to Odin anything other than 4.3+. It will brick your device.
Other than those things it won't effect you at all.
And yes an OTA is Over The Air update. When the device scans for firmware updates and it find one it automatically downloads it and persistently bugs you about it until your firmware is the most current version. Done by the user or sometimes the techs at phone stores like to do it without asking you.
So to clarify (at work, ill read your link, appeciate it) Knox wont affect anything BUT the counter and downgrading? So i could root the old way with odin and cwm for 4.1.2 without problems?
Stock recovery is just worse in general or similar? Lastly "stock" ota is what i meant lol. I guess that means a non-custom ROM from your carrier?
I personally dont care for my warranty, i have a few months left in my contract and could upgrade now to a new phone if i wanted.
Thanks. I hate to sound like i did no research, i appreciate the link.

[Q] Noob question about un-rooting

So I have an S3 that I had CM11 on and I switched from sprint to ting and need to update the PLR Profiles. I installed what I thought was a Touchwiz ROM (MOAR) and it wouldn't boot. But it removed Clockwork Mod, I'm back to the stock downloader that says "Odin Mode" with a Warranty Bit: 1.
Before I go further and flash a stock ROM (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 ) with Odin I wanted to make sure this wouldn't brick (knowing brick anyway) my phone. Everything I read through search contradicts what I read before it. Some say that downgrading (CW11 is KitKat and I'm guessing this is JB or ICS since its from 2012) will brick your phone (Cant seem to find current stock ROMs), some say that flashing stock with "warranty bit: 1" will do it (I can't fix this bit count because phone wont boot), some say that flashing a stock ROM over a custom ROM will brick it. Of course for each rule there is 20 posts saying they are wrong.
TL;DR
Can I flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 over a MOAR install on a phone with a warranty bit : 1 condition?
Thanks in advance,
Omega
PS - Thanks to all the Devs, been lurking here for years and using your work since my first Droid.
The tar in that thread is nd8 kitkat 4.4.2 for touchwiz. Once that tar is flashed you CANNOT downgrade bootloader or modem, you can however flash any rom you desire. Again be sure NOT to downgrade bootloader or modem, because doing so will hard brick your phone.

Yes you can flash this tar via odin. It will restore your phone back to factory settings with 4.4.2 touchwiz.
Thank you for the help and quick response! I am about to flash it now. I did have one more dumb question that I thought other people might not know and find this thread in search: Is the N8 the version of the radio software? The bootloader? What does it represent? When I good a 2 or 3 letter word like that, its useless.
Again thank you so much for the quick help.
Edit: Worked like a damned charm. If I could, I'd buy ya a beer. Thanks again.

ND8 is just the build number by Samsung that they settled on as stable. I've seen am explanation of exactly what the letters and number means but basically I think it's just year, month and day but I don't remember precisely.

[Galaxy Note II GT-N7100] Failed network registration and generic IMEI change

Probably this is a common issue, and you may want to kill me after opening a new thread for this. I'm so sorry, at the moment I'm very worried because my phone suddenly lost network services and I have no idea how to deal with these things, I'm really bad at flashing and such thing.
Problem is that after a year and half since I bought my Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100, suddenly today this issue appeared.
The device has root access (not performed by me) with Kingo SuperUser/SuperSU. Once I realized it was rooted, I googled and proceeded to perform a factory reset (restarted device with power + volume up + home buttons, which leaded me to android system recovery 3e), which didn't help at all.
If I dial *#06# the IMEI it shows 004999010640000 / 01 but the one I see under the battery slot is (2014) IMEI: 359xxx/05/853xxx/4 (I don't know if this data is relevant, just trying to help).
I found this thread in this forum, which seems to be the same problem I'm facing right now, but I don't have any backup of those files, plus I don't know how to flash this specific phone :crying:
I'll really appreciate any kind of help you can provide me to fix my phone.
Here's a screenshot of the device info (it's in spanish but some names are easily understandable)

I recommend removing the imei # (359358...) from your post and refrain from publishing imei #s on a public forum.
Have you tried flashing the latest stock ROM from sammobile.com?

Thanks for the advice!
I haven't tried anything but a hard reset. I don't know how to flash a phone, and I'm pretty sure I can screw it up if I try xD
I just heard about sammobile.com, but I don't know how to proceed even on that website.
Anyway, I hope there's something I can try before making that kind of "flashing"
If the imei doesn't get restored after flashing the latest stock ROM from Sammobile.com, you would need to try other methods to fix there imei problem.
Common issue... More than you imagine. Happens to me all the time. But I have one solution in my case Wich is just flash the EFS partition in my previous nandroid backup, but since to be you only were rooted and not custom recovery, I guess you don't have a nandroid backup. Only solution here is flash thru Odin and all will be good.
