Dear all,
i am living in China and I receive the note 8 GT-N5100 for present... but as you may know in China, Android is customised with no google services and play store! impossible to choose language except korean, chinese and english (but all the samsung applications are much more chinese languages aware than english)...
So I try to change the chinese ROM with a european one last week end through Odin but it failed during the process (on the forum, it seems that a bootloader or something like is blocking the process) and I restore it through KIES.
i am now in a guerilla mode with my tablet as i will whatever it takes to break these chinese limitation and have a real international tablet.
i read that mobile Odin pro could be a solution? but through the device no appstore, so can't buy it (and seems that mobile odin is not covering yet note 8).
i am looking for your help on that, if you have any ideas, please help!
thanks
Questions first. Are you rooted? Can you use the root tools here to root your device? That will be a prerequisite for most things. If your trying to instal the google framework for play services Try the instructions on this link Make sure you use the manual installation method. I know this is for the kindle fire HD but the file structure should be similar and it will get ya up and running.
hi thanks for you reply.
i added a file named: CF-Auto-Root-kona3g-kona3gxx-gtn5100.tar.md5 through Odin on the table with no problem (red android robot as a pirate) and it has added superSU.
so i suppose that i have rooted it?
Try the v1,1 toolkit for the Note 8. You find if in the original android development Section. Install and follow the Instructions, You have to check if your version is supported, else you follow the instructions and send your version to the dev. Then wait for support. I found the toolkit great and easy to use. Just root and install custom recovery, and you will be good to go!

Your rom ends with BMD2, therefore it's outside the span BMC9- BMD1. Follow the an screen instruktions, and send your version to the dev. He will add your version shortly, then you are able to run custom roms!

Wait, you're saying it lets you flash this non Motorola signed update.zip from stock recovery in the Chinese ROM?
If that's the case... Couldn't you just prepare an update.zip that adds root privileges, and flash it the same way?

I was just thinking the exact same thing!
All you chinese XDA'ers now have a new mission: Track down the source of that update.zip!
It's probably come from Motorola.

Yep... probably. But why would they first send out a stripped/de-googled (read: crippled) firmware, and then post the update.zip?
Can anyone try and create another update.zip that will flash successfully on this ROM? If so then it opens up mega possibilities.
If this is truly signed by Motorola, maybe it's because Google isn't on good terms with the Chinese government, so Motorola created a backdoor way to get Google Apps on the phone.

why use 5.0?

It's ok? I will have the recovery in this rom?
Edit: The lower right corner... I read it today, and is one of the oldest defy thread...
this doesn't work for the rooted version of the 2.2 Chinese rom
Will this update work on device sold in China,PRC?
I got it directly from retailer with an official 2.2 rom inside.Enough tolerance to Moto adware.Want to blow them away and install a fully functional google app setting.
P.S:
1.What does the 2.51 or so for the roms mean?Don't think that's calling the rom, since 2.3 hasn't arrived yet.Affraid of bricking my device,I didn't attempt flashing blindly.
2.Anyone seeks luck with CM mod for Defy?Raised as a CM fan.

You can find the stock firmware here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SGH-I747M&pcode=RWC&os=1&type=1#firmware
Also you might want Google around for "resetting the flash counter". If the flash counter is incremented it voids the warranty.

maybe this is asked before but someone have link for this? Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE (GT-N7105) official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
i have GSM version ( T-mobile Netherlands) someone got it fixed already or at least link for working GSM version. i found a link to "Nordic version"
but i dont no if this is good one...
help please.. and sorry for my bad English language.
Sammobile puts all firmwares Samsung releases up on http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
If it's not there Samsung probably hasn't made one for your region.
Other regions version works most of the time, but you will probably have problems getting support if you bought the phone in Netherlands, but has NEE firmware... And if your phone is locked to T-Mobile you might also have problems.

I have updated it using Odin 3.07 with N7105XXUEMK5 and root with Odin 1.85 using CF-Auto-Root-t0lte-t0ltexx-gtn7105.tar.md5
SuperSU, Titanium Backup, Andromizer works.
I need help though. All apps that help mount USB Drives (Stick Mount, USB OTG Helper and Paragon) because its NTFS formatted will trigger a "Security Notice" "Unauthorized access to a secured area was blocked" with a Shield icon in the notification.
It seems like a security block. Any idea on how to work around this? I did not install Knox. Not sure what the Shield icon is.
Once it's triggered, the app/action taken will not be allowed.
HELP!
Looks like i have no NEE version and i am not locked on t-mobile

I think you have to connect your phone to your PC and open Kies to check what version you have.
I have OmniROM 4.4 on my phone, so I can't double check that.

What's not available there? Kies or the ROM?
As far as I know you can download Kies from anywhere.
http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/#downloadWindows
You can't downgrade with it, but it will tell you what region you are in. Just download Kies, connect your phone with a USB cable and look under Firmware info to see what region your phone is from.
Then you can download the latest available version from Sammobile. If you don't see 4.3 there for your region then Samsung has not made it available for you yet.
Kies is available not the new firmware

Hello,
I am attempting to flash my Sony Xperia M phone, to downgrade it from 4.3 to 4.1 (in order to install a custom ROM).
I have downloaded two versions of the 4.1 OS, but neither appear to work.
The problem is, the progress bar indicating how far along the Flashing process is, is stuck at one point forever.
As I understand, it should take only a matter of minutes, but I've left it going for hours at a time, but it never completes.
There seems to be something wrong with the software, or the OS I've downloaded, or the phone itself. I have no idea.
If you are able to suggest ways around this problem, that would be appreciated.
Here's a screenshot and a WebM of the Flashing process.

As you can see here in the Service Menu, the Rooting Status displays that the Bootloader cannot' be unlocked.
I have read elsewhere online that previous versions of Android on Xperia M allow for this. This is why I wish to downgrade.
I see my friend, I'm afraid even if you upgrade you'll get a "no" but you can always try I hope I'm wrong, unfortunately I never faced this problem, I don't know how to help, sorry man , try using a newer version of flashtool or even older, I don't know how drivers work on Mac but try reinstalling them, whatever could help you..
