Otterbox Commuter with OEM Samsung 3000mah Extended Battery - Galaxy S III Accessories

I'm just posting to let people know that I've personally modified my Otterbox Commuter to fit the oem samsung extended battery. I was able to do this by simply using an xacto-knife to cut a battery-shaped rectangle for the extended battery to stick-out through the standard batt. door that came with the device. Then I just slipped the silicone cover over my s3,flipped it over(screen down) and cut around the raised edges on the silicone that outline where the battery was pressing against the silicone, and after that I was good to go. At the moment I'm not able to take pictures.

do you got pics?

I would have just left my battery door off instead of cutting it up.

Ya....except for the polycarbonate shell on the commuter which holds the battery , since i cut the silicone and slim battery door to allow for the battery to stick through...

Not possible with this mod. If you read my post it mentions i cut the slim battery door because the EXTENDED battery obviously wouldn't fit otherwise.

I was just meaning to not use a battery door at all, just modding the case and putting on the phone without it. That way, you could always put the stock battery back in without a hole in the back of your phone.

What holds the battery in place? The hard cover of the otterbox?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

Yes the hard plastic cover holds the battery in

I gotta admit it is pretty cool. Ive been thinking of getting a extended battery and the main thing holding me back is how bulky it would be and the lack of case options. But I love the commuter case and it seems to work. Does the case create a bump on the back when fully installed?

No, as the polycarbonate isn't flexible, it does NOT create a bump or distort the outer shell in anyway. The shell should remain perfectly flat, if installed correctly

Thank you Op this was perfect, sitting here right now with my fav phone case back on and you would never know the extended battery is hidden in there.

this looks super interesting to me but i would hate to have to cut up my case in case i want to sell it in the future. i was thinking about getting a cheapo battery door to cut up and use but i was wondering if i could get away with not cutting up the rubber portion of the commuter case.

You will need to cut the standard phone back portion of the case and the rubber portion of the otterbox this will bring everything flush with the extended battery. The outer shell of the otterbox acts as the new back cover it works really well i personally couldn't be any happier with the result.

Can't wait to see pictures myself.
Has anyone found those oem Samsung 3000 mah batteries for less than $50 yet?
Galaxy S3, DarthStalker ROM & Kinetic Pulse Kernel.. Perfection.

Could the defender be used if you just didn't put the battery back on? I am currently used a UAG case this way and it works good.

No it wont fit it is a little too thick.

2000MAh battery

I will be getting my 2000MAh battery next week or the week after and I wanted some case suggestions. Right now I am using the case mate barely there but obviously that won't fit round it.
I want something that feels nice, made of plastic but feels sort of rubbery (like Barely There) and isn't over $20 Australian.
Thanks guys!

Is it regular size battery or bigger ?
Go get a Capdase Alumor Case Jacket. It fits perfectly with the bulkier 2000mah battery.
Actually, I am using both now

Nope it is not the same, it is slightly bigger. If you have a full on case, it might not fit sadly.

The S2, sinks a little bit in the back to make it feel thinner. With the 2000 mAh battery, that makes the back area level with the top area of the phone (where the camera is). It'll fit in virtually any case.
Trident Aegis case fits well and is rubbery edged. Might be a bit more than $20 Aus. though.

Post a picture of your case along with your S3

I am debating which color to go with... I have a blue one right now, but I might switch to White. Also, I want to dedicated this thread to a pictures of cases (with your device installed)

The Samsung dock that I use is the multimedia desktop dock it has audio out. I use it every night to charge my phone. I like the Seidio case for how slim it is it gives some good protection without adding a lot of bulk. That s3 retains its slim feeling with the Seidio case IMOP. For me the Sedio case and the dock are a great combo.

The Seidio if you are comparing it to the defender it does nit give as much protection but it is way thinner. If you are compering it to the commuter it with give about the same level of protection but with a slimmer profile.

Time to get this case reviewed right?
Honestly, if i had to choose between this and the commuter i would pick this one up. Feels really solid and after a 10 mile hike at zion with some drops , it proved its point.

That happen to mine, Within in a month mine was real loose, good thing I bought it at a local att store so they replaced it, had the new one for a few months and it's not loose at all. Maybe they had defects on some.

When you say a new case, do you mean holster/case? I was walking and my holster caught something and the clip broke off. The case is also squeaky and the lip of the case is getting loose and is starting to expose the plastic edges.

Cool. I'll fire off an email to them then. I have my zoogue cases and will probably order a UAG, commuter, or ballistic to hold me over.
Are you guys taking the case on and off frequently or just naturally happens?
And by proof, is the original packaging good enough?
Yeah the corners don't have a rail like the sides to snap into. They're sending me a complete otterbox to replace mine. Maybe they have fixed the design.
