[Q] Need help with Kali Linux to boot on Note 2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bump into the thread below over a week ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40017296
So far Kali Linux is working on my N7100 via Linux Deploy, SSH and VNC and used some tools in Kali to test my wireless router. However, I cannot boot Kali from the recovery image. I followed the steps in the tutorial, but all I get is a black screen:
http://docs.kali.org/armel-armhf/kali-linux-on-galaxy-note
Attached is a copy of the recovery image originally meant for the Galaxy Note 10.1, but may work on the Note 2 as well.

I see the problems below.
1. Your zip file is not an EDIFY CWM script package if you're trying to install it via ClockworkMod.
2. In that guide for Note 10.1 mmcblk0p6 is the recovery partition. But for Note II, the recovery partition is mmcblk0p9
3. That recovery image probably for Note 10.1, not for Note II? Recoveries for Note II also contains a kernel. It's not just a recovery!
That guide is using low level raw image writing with dd. If you don't know what you're doing, don't play with it.
Plus, they already have mentioned that
Alert! This process will overwrite your recovery partition. Please make sure you know what you are doing. You may brick your device if you fumble this.

Edit: I see that you said you have a black screen. Congratulations, probably you have bricked your device if I understood correctly.
Last chance, flash a stock firmware for Note II via Odin while you're praying for that your device is not bricked.

No need to be melodramatic. I just replaced the recovery image with TWRP though ODIN and I'm back in business.
BTW, I really didn't need the lecture. That is why I posted it here, so someone with the know how can fix the recovery image. This benefits the Note 2 community maybe even all android smartphone owners here at XDA if the image can be utilized, as it was for Backtrack.

Yes flashing an unknown recovery image was very risky. But for me, the benefit of using Kali Linux natively outweighed that.
BTW, looking at my earlier comment, I realized my part in this conversation, so for that my sincere apologies.

so you've already make note 2 works with Linux Deploy. If im not mistaken, note 2's linux deploy keep giving an permission failures like :
Code:
sudo: PERM_ROOT: setresuid(0, -1, -1): Permission denied
or do you have any better suggestions and instructions without disturbing the ROM (like odin especiall)?

It wouldn't matter because you've already tripped the warranty bit.. but that is how you reset the count before 4.3..

hi from what im understanding ur wanting to root it and install custom firmware
here is a video i used from rootjunky to root my tablet with twrp
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDShwBHRjUE
hope it helped
@first there is no cm for this tab. All custom roms based on stock rom or 4.2.2 port from sm-t110
There is no need to unlock bootloader like HTC. No seperate flash of Boot.img...
Install cwm or twrp recovery with Odin. Check threads for Odin install instructions. Its easy going
Cwm:

Twrp:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653391
If you only want to root flashable ZIP for root is attached in recovery threads.
If you want to try custom roms check index thread for sm-t210 Roms.

If u would like i could upload a list of build.prop tweaks to use to improve over all performannce like image battery life wifi speed stuff like that just over all makes the tab run smoother

Try looking at the specs of each ROM and compare it with yours. I am currently running S.E.A.L ROM
with the Black hawk kernel I am finding it faster than the Stock ROM and also way less bloatware.
Try this or the RocketTab Rom and Blackhawk. These tend to work the best for most SM-T210 and R.

10.1 Note (2014 Edition - SM-P600) Continuously Reboots - Please HELP

Hello Everyone!
I'm stuck!!! If anyone can help, it is so appreciated!
I attempted to root my subject named device using ODIN following these directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-2014/development/root-cf-auto-root-t2905495
Everything seems to go as planned until restart.. the tablet continuously reboots, over and over, but fails to load.
I have no clue what to do from here, so this is my only option... ask those who have much more knowledge than me!
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your assistance.
That's called a bootloop. Something went wrong with flashing. What is a subject named device? That autoroot method only works for smp600 that is already running stock 5.1 or 4.4.2 . Boot into downloadmode using the appropriate buttons, then Download stock firmarwe from sammobile.Com and flash via Odin to get back a working device.
Which build are you on? If it is 5.1.1, that method will result in a bootloop if you try to root.
Use this instead

The tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Model SM-P600.
Not sure about the build.... but I will most definitely checkout the link you provided - thanks!
Question, can I flash a different rom rather than stock?
Also, I was just able to flash TWRP via ODIN and was able to get TWRP to load on the device. I'm hoping to flash a custom rom from the external SD via TWRP. I don't care which one at this point.. just need to get the tablet functional again and get a backup saved lol.

Here is "how to" instruction by me - post #225 for upgrade to the latest 5.1.1 and root your device. Once done and you want custom rom, just boot into twrp and flash any custom rom that you like. Let me know if you have issue.

TWRP Recovery on Note 3 Neo N7505

Hi all!
I have a Note 3 neo SM N7505 rooted with stock ROM (Android 4.4.2) and I want to install TWRP recovery in it to do a backup before upgrading to Lollypop. I have tried to do it with the app and throw Odin without success (phone bricked). I think the problem is the position of the RECOVERY link inside the directory tree: in my phone is on: /dev/block/platform/dw_mmc.0/by-name/RECOVERY, it points to /dev/block/mmcblk0p10.
The question is: can I install the last TWRP recovery invoking this command without doing any damage?
dd if=/position/of/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/dw_mmc.0/by-name/RECOVERY
Thanks

I think the correct image is that for Note 3 Neo N7505 LTE (hlltexx) - I have the LTE version (I cannot paste the link).
If I brick another time the phone, can I resurrect it by rooting it again (as I did to recover it before)?

do i put in 2 files in my phone then go into that mode and its finish?
notpossible?
Sure you can, I have the exact same model and did it with a bit of trial and error, so first of all you need to install TWRP from here
https://dl.twrp.me to your note2
and then make a backup up of your Stock ROM (4.4.2)
and then root by using https://samsungodin.com from your PC
Then flash your custom reassertion ROM.
