As detailed here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140645 ), I got a "Galaxy SII" from Boost Mobile back in Feburary. Apparently I'm in the right forum for this device. The stock rom on this thing has a lot of issues, so I wanted to replace it with a good Cyanogenmod build. It hasn't been rooted or otherwise tampered with yet, and I have the latest OTA update. What's the safest way to put cyanogenmod on here?

just like a sprint one... root it from this guide and then follow this guide to get 10.1 or atleast a version of it... there are no official cyanogenmod builds for this phone.
Double check your model number before you flash anything, if you don't have an Epic Touch you may bork your phone.
By the way there's nothing safe about cyanogenmod, just follow the threads and read the posts, especially the ones that start with "help".

oh, so root is required in order to flash roms? I was under the impression that this "Odin" tool could flash roms directly. Anyway... is cyanogenmod not a good rom for this phone? What is?

Only stock roms for odin but it does more than roms modems, kernel, etc. Root is needed to flash through recovery and the best rom is up to you we all like different stuff but one thing we will keep doing is flashing roms

ok, so I followed the first guide up to the point where I now have "AGAT recovery" on my phone. Is this like the Clockworkmod Recovery I used to have on my EVO 4G? Meaning I can just put roms like cyanogenmod or similar on the sd card and install through AGAT recovery?
no i recomend you root with agat and then flash el29 directboot safe recovery to flash the rom

I can't seem to find this "el29 directboot safe recovery" anywhere. How do I get it? It's a superior replacement for AGAT recovery I presume? I read somewhere that "safe recovery" is required to avoid brick on the Epic 4g touch. Can anyone fill me in on this?

Once you flash el29, wipe data, and flash CM. And imho, CM is a very reliable build, but they are many other TW and AOSP builds now that are pretty freaking awesome as well.

AAAhhh, thanks. I just run that from the Windows desktop with my phone plugged in? What makes it safer than AGAT recovery anyway?
also, my phone runs android 4.0.4. This means that I should use the CM9 rom, correct? I've seen warnings about ICS/JB incompatibilities regarding the modem or something.....

You can flash CM 10 or 10.1, just keep your ICS modem. And EL26 is safest do to the emmc bug. But Agat's should be fine, but almost all devs insist on a safe recovery, and I'd listen to them

It's most likely the Full EL29 update that Sprint is pushing out that removes Carrier IQ from our phones. And no it's not safe to download any OTA if you are rooted it would fail anyways.

If I do this update, would it effect my ability to root in the future?
Highly unlikely. However, if you want to be completely safe, root and install a rom with EL29 and also update your modem.

Just flash Calk's E4GT v2.8.1 Rom... Includes Root, Rogue EL29 kernel, El29 Modem... It's a bad ass Rom!

I also got a question about this. I am on baseband Ek02. I am rooted and have the blazer rom installed. My kernal says El29 and build number says same Gingerbread El29. So when I do get the OTA should I unroot? or just click update?

I put the file you posted in /system/apps and used TB to freeze system updates, as well as a cache and dalvik wipe with reboot. Am I all set so the update won't install and screw up Calk's rom for me? And get rid of the notifications?
What if your a stock root and want the update? Should I unroot then update and then reroot?
I don't know if this will work so try at your own risk. I read about a recent ota for the epic 4g that the notifications were getting on some people's nerves. Someone brought up the idea and a few people said it worked.
If you are on a custom rom and the ota nag screen pops up, let it update. It will fail and I'm guessing it will try to flash but give you an exclamation mark when trying to update. When you get the mark, pull the battery them put it back in. They are saying in that post that the nag screen will stop appearing after that. I haven't tried it yet because I don't need to. If you do decide to do it, I think it would be a good idea to nandroid before everything and have all the files you need to flash it back to where you want it if something goes wrong. I don't know for sure but I don't think it will brick a phone.
Somebody was asking about cal's 2.8.1. I have the trexcell 3800 battery in the phone now. I did properly break in and condition the battery when I first got it. Here is a screen shot. I went off the charger at 8am and have not been plugged in at all during the day. I used the phone quite a bit too.

Depends on what your taste and personal preferences are. All the ROMs found here are at least as good as the stock ROM.....most are better. For a really awesome appearance and stability with speed and increased battery life I'd recommend Strongsteve's odex blue ROM.
I figured I would ask here instead of making my own thread. Would it be best to download an OTA on a brand new phone and then doing all this rooting and flashing and ROMing? I'm asking because I don't have the phone yet but I'll be doing all this cool stuff as soon as i get it.
A lot of members that went from calk's ROM to the blazer ROM are showing battery improvements, one member even said his tripled. I'm currently using it and couldn't be happier!

ICS/JB as a whole is currently a non-starter because we are lacking drivers for the cell radio. I could probably make ICS AOSP boot and be more or less usable but you wouldn't be able to make/receive calls, SMS, or data (without Wi-Fi). When I have time I'm gonna try a few things, but don't hold your breath.

Its an all in one file. Its a program that uploads the ics onto your phone just follow the instructions.
MAKE SURE TO INSTALL SAMSUNG KIES FIRST.
I think the people who have problems don't have right usb drivers installed. Samsung kies will install right drivers.
I also notice the backgrounds don't rotate once u switch from default ones. Which is annoying. I'm sure another fix for next version.

You shouldn't be flashing kernels seeing as you don't have a clue what you're doing. If something were to go wrong you would be screwed. You don't even know where to look for the kenerls. All T-Mobile kernels are in the T-Mobile original development forum. You can flash any T-mobile/i9505 ROM as long as you flash a T-Mobile kernel(which can be located in the Original Development forum). You were lucky enough to be given step by step guide but that won't teach you anything and you won't learn that way. All you know is that you need a T-mobile kernel to flash after flashing a i9505 ROM, but you don't know why. I would suggest learning why so you don't run into future problems.

I think I am in the same boat. Could someone with a I747 that has the official 4.3 OTA make a Nandroid backup and send or post a link to it so we can get up and running.

In the development section there is a thread on how to return to 100% stock, by enewman17 be sure to Thank him for his work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 running S3Rx MJ2 bootloader MJB modem and it is smooth
Problem
I have tried all the available combinations of aftermarket roms on 4.3 with modems and kernels and nothing fixes my phone. I have also tried loser skater's 4.3 debloated and it does the same it stays on the AT&T logo forever.
If anyone knows another way or is willing to upload a 4.3 nandroid backup I would be greatly in debt and I have several boxes that I could return the favor with if ever they needed.

This, AT&T I747 UCUEMJB Stock Restore, is the thread to which theramsey3 was referring. If you have not tried it this is probably the best answer remaining.
Question
I am curious is anyone of you guys tried this rom?
How long should it stay one the AT&T logo?

After 10 mins or so on the AT&T logo screen the bottom of the phone is burning hot.
So I remove the battery.
Not only does the phone get stuck and heat up but dalvick and wipe fail from inside TWRP.
Does anyone know what could be going wrong?

Try loading Philz Touch and use that to wipe cache and Dalvik.
????
Still after trying flashing Philz recovery ( very nice by the way) and then flashing the 4.3 Stock rom dawgdoc recommended it still gets stuck on the AT&T logo.
I am at a loss here, both the recovery and the rom install successfully but still no proper boot and even with Philz recovery I get a (mount system data) ERROR when I try to factory wipe or any type of wipe.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
!!!!!!! SUCCESS !!!!!!!!!!!!
This is amazing it finally boots I have been attempting different variations over a month and nothing would bring it back. THANK YOU SO MUCH

Can we get a screen shot of your "About device page... expecially the baseband and kernel versions... build also if possible.
Can someone let us know if the update fixes the stupid screen rotation bug when you turn off auto-brightness. Also, if there is a noticeable change in overall snapiness. Thanks!

General noob question:
How would I go about rooting 4.3 for AT&T? Can someone point me to the thread of it exists? Yes I've tried the search function and no nothing exact came up. I don't want to mess up and then be "that guy" on here crying about making a noob mistake.

See Dr. Ketan and his thread regarding the bootloader on 4.3.....g
Will you be able to go back to 4.1.2 if you take this update?

But that's a thread specifically for 7100-based (non-LTE) variants, right? Whereas we have n7105-based LTE Versions...if I'm missing something please let me know. TIA.

I rooted using this method while still on 4.1.2 and it worked flawlessly.
I then paid for and installed SuperSU Pro and activated "Survival Mode"
Lastly, after the OTA update was COMPLETELY finished, I followed this simple procedure to get root back again.
SuperSU disables Knox for you on 4.3 which is also nice. I should have qualified here that I am COMPLETELY stock other than root. I have not "frozen" any apps., deleted any Samsung provided files, etc. and I have stock bootloader and stock recovery. This will likely NOT work if you have done any of those things.
Is there a flashable version of this? If not, can somebody make one? Thanks.
I'm running a custom rom and rollouts/updates from vendors freak me out because I don't trust not one of them. Knowing AT&T they have thrown in some bit of encryption that locks the bootloader. I understand this might not be the case this time but I do know none of them can be trusted.
Now if you excuse me, I'm 1/2 done with 1984 the book and my tin foil hat is making me itch.
Guys I need help I am stuck, I am using unlock att with tmobile, I check software update but it days interrupted, and I even tried with kies but it's not connecting at all, I tried 2 pcs.... Any help... What to do to update it... Please

The update has only been out for a few hours and we are asking for .zip files already ??
Sheesh...
Give the devs some time to pull it apart and clean it up...unless you would like Knox and a bootloader lock ??

I have a few questions for you and/or those more in the know:
If I were to do this same thing, would I be able to flash a custom recovery (like TWRP) and/or flash custom ROM's/Kernels like I can already do now? One of my main concerns is that the stock kernel doesn't support Boeffla Sound, and that really makes for better audio on this device...might as well take full advantage of that Wolfson DAC...
I have to admit, it would be nice to be able to use pure AT&T stock, but rooted, as a base...this is why I loved the old CleanROM AT&T SE so much...
TIA for any guidance you can give on this.
Side note: after ODIN'ing back to 4.1.2 MA4, it says I have a 741MB update I can take....I'm sure that's this 4.3 update...Culpeper, VA here.

I did the same as marchusdavis but it resulted in a total disaster. After I downloaded the OTA update from AT&T I restarted my phone and it installed through CWM-Touch. At the end it asked if I wanted to ensure root was maintained and of course I said "yes" there (as well as through my SuperSU Pro Survival Mode). When it booted, my WiFi no longer works AND I lost root.
If anyway has any advice on how to get to a stock 4.3 from here please let me know!
Ugh, having trouble updating atm.
Goes up to 30%, then my phone reboots and says
"The update was interrupted" or something like that
On stock 4.1.2 rooted with stock recovery if anyone can help.

I don't believe so, as I am completely stock, bootloader and all. If you want to install other ROMs, you'd need to use a different method I believe. Likely downloading this update either via Kies or something else, and use ODIN to do everything. If you search around a bit on XDA, you'll probably find someone who has done it successfully and posted how. While I like custom ROMs, I have not had a need to use one yet on this device. However, if Samsung doesn't eventually give us Air Command, that might be enough to make me try it!
Is it possible to get the official update from the leak or do I have to downgrade to 4.1.2? I tried updating from the leak but it said it's the latest version.
