[Q] Installed OTA update on my rooted Note 2. Lost my root? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help! I'm new at this. I've rooted my Note 2 GT-N7100 using CF-Autoroot some weeks ago.
Today I just received OTA software update on my Note 2 GT-N7100 and then I found out that SuperSU doesn't work anymore with error "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it". Triangle Away is also not longer working saying SuperUser access is needed.
Help!! What should I do now without having reinstall everything again? I need to correct this problem, and then remove the root from my phone!

Simple, re root with cf auto root.

Thank you! As easy as that?
Ok, let's say I've done that. Can I unroot my phone without restoring Stock firmware? Run Triangle Away to reset the counter, use SuperSU for full unroot and go to Stock Recovery and perform factory reset?

Exactly.

Hi, I did the same as OP. I was root with the Exynos Abuse app then I installed 4.1.2 OTA and now root is gone. When I got back into the Exynos app it says it can't root again.
I'm not sure what you mean by cf auto root. This was my first time ever rooting and I don't know much about custom firmwares and such. Can you tell me how to do it step by step?
Thank you

exynos won't work on 4.1.2

How can I update my phone using Odin?

Hey there, I have a rooted S3 (rooted with Snapdragon toolkit) and I have not updated my phone since I've gotten it. Is there a way for me to update my phone using Odin without having to unroot my phone first? If so, where can I download the updates for the Wind Mobile version of the S3? Also, If I update my phone using Odin, will it wipe all data from the phone?
Thanks for any help.
Go here, download the root66 jellybean rom for you carrier and flash it with desktop Odin. You will keep root, apps, settings, everything. These have superSU, yours probably has superuser so you will end up with both. Just open superSU, it will ask you to update the binary and it will take over. Then you can just disable or install superuser if you wish.

That tells me you did not read the thread at all, root66 by mrRobinson rooms are fully stock Samsung firmware with only one modification, root injected on it, so you don't have to do it yourself, and you don't trip the counter in the process of rooting it either.

You're right, after I saw the word 'rom' I thought you were talking about a completely different rom and didn't bother to check. Thanks, I will definitely check this out.

Hi there. Rooting has a bit more to it than installing SU from recovery. You should head over to original development and use the CF auto root method by chainfire. That should get you where you need to be. Just remember to reset your flash counter when you're done with triangle away. Hope this helps.

You need the supersu app instead of that superuser, especially if you are on Jellybean. You could download and flash it from CWM from here.
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
Or, you could use CF root, but I don't think that it is necessary.

ok so went and used the tool kit and it worked like a charm. I just got my GS3 yesterday coming from my good old cappy. I'm gonna miss her! So Just a simple root will require Triangle away? I thought only flashing a ROM would tick the counter.

It was that way on older devices, but now the counter ticks when you use Odin, which is what the toolkit uses to root your device. Hope this clears up any confusion.

[Q] root: I'm lost, so many steps and threads. Please help

Hey everyone,
I would like to know what is the simplest way to root my N7100.
Here I've made all possible automatic updates and my fw is 4.1.2 N7100XXDLK7.
My purpose is to have root access so I could run applications like Titanium Backup, restore some applications settings (like Angry Birds scores, yes ) etc.
Do I really need to flash another fw on it with ODIN?
Thanks and best regards
Since your new & lost, download this pre-rooted FW
N7100XXDMC3_N7100ODDDMD1_N7100DDDLK
http://d-h.st/2rD
Flash with Odin
You can also just follow this guide, very straight forward and easy..

Hi, what does it mean ? Is it for warranty or ?
It would be covered under warranty untill u dont flash any zips which will raise the binary counter to claim warranty you could unroot ur device factory reset no signs of root and you can claim it.

yes,
actually if you root any latest ROM with conventional method (CF auto root/CWM) that will raise flash counter and voids warranty untill you reset flash counter. for newbies or who scare to root or finding hard to root and reset counter, i have made pre rooted ROM, which is nothing but same samsung stock ROM + root file pushed in ROM so you will need not to root and hence no need to reset counter.

Don't complicate things Just download lates ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash with Odin. Then root again, it is a 3 minute process.... you won't loose any settings, data or apps.
U can update using mobile Odin when the new 4.2 firmware when its available via samMobile. It will keep the root. I hv been using it to update the last few times.

Hi all, i am total noob in android phones and the note 2 (was an ardent BB fan over many years).
Quick question if you guys don't mind.
I have Mobile Odin and I have rooted me phone; what I'm absolutely unsure of is, the new 4.2 firmware when it's available, where do I head to to download it? Do i save it as a zip file in the ext SD card and install it via Mobile Odin from there? If not, please advise the how-to please.
Many thanks for helping out this total noob.
Thanks

If you flash with mobile Odin, there is option to keep the root. If you flash with Odin, you must root again, which is a 3 minute process, so IMHO is not a big deal. I dunno about TWRP since I don't have custom recovery, I don't want my counter raising

Many thanks for the advice mate! Cheers
Isn't there an option in Mobile Odin (paid version) to do exactly this ?
I guess SuperSU pro has OTA survival mode, that protects root access if you use the official Samsung OTA update. Full ROM flashes via PC Odin will not preserve root, Mobile ODIN will preserve root if you select the option.
I thought that samsung disables ota updates for rooted or "Modified" systems?

How to root 4.1.2

The guide to root the S3 is for 4.1.1
I used this previously.
But then I downloaded the 4.1.2 OTA update, and it got rid of my root
I would like to know what method to use to root it again, and remain on 4.1.2 (I only want root. Not custom ROM or anything. JUST root)
There is a very helpful video on Youtube that shows you step by step on how to root on stock 4.1.1-4.1.2.
The video is older than the update yes, but I have used this method several different times on my gs3 and it never failed. Just follow the instructions carefully and you should be fine.
Happy rooting!
