My friend had this issue with his S2, I just told him to buy the USB Port/Flex Cable from ebay or eTradSupply, then I replaced it, flashed to stock with Odin, the TWRP and finally updated his phone to UVMC6

Nice thinking! Unfortunately, the sgh-t989 does not feature a port/flex cable. The microusb connector is soldered directly to the MLB.

Suspect enigma was referring to a friend with an int'l s2. Regardless, the microusb connector is connected to a t989 main logic board in my stock t989d. ==> t989/t989d needs to have microusb connector desoldered and a new one soldered in place if it it to be replaced. The microusb connector is part of the main logic board ass'y and not a flex connected subass'y.

What rom are you trying to install, and what rom are you trying to restore?
Also when you try to flash a new recovery are doing a full reboot or just rebooting the recovery?

would be happy to restore any working rom at this point. if i could simply reboot into twrp 2.5 it would be a huge improvement over cwm 6.0.3.1 >> at least then I could access my twrp backups.
as it is now, i can create an md5 checked complete backup (of a borked system) and restore from md5 checked backups. for some reason I am not able to "run" flashable zips; just restore (or advanced restore) backups from external_sd .... this seems to have the ability to restore some of the partitions needed ... i.e.,
/boot
/system
/data
/cache
/.android_secure
haven't seen any /preload as of yet. maybe all that's missing? all partitions need md5 sums though
have you tried mobile odin to flash a recovery, kernel, rom

mobile odin does not work for the hercules
update: cwm 6.0.3.1 advanced restore & mobile odin & microusb
No usb
Local solder wizard balked. I unsoldered and removed the microusb connector. Don't have another to upside down type connector handy.
____________
No way to install apps
Though I cannot run a terminal or any program, {because installing a zip fails everytime}:
backup with md5 sums works
restore with md5 sums works
backup & restore to external_sd works
So if somebody can send me a complete, rooted, cwm 6+, or nandroid of any working t989 hercules rom, I should be able to copy it and restore a complete working system.
Before I forget, need to find out if there is a partition that needs to be excluded from backup and or restore. Seem to remember that one partition contains unique, sensitive phone, vendor, and service_provider info. Will edit when I can locate the specifics, (unless someone has that info handy; knows how to protect their privacy; and wants to pm or post their hercules backup)
_____________
without a working sytem, how do you run mobile odin?
mobile odin sounds great as would any working terminal. Have got the apk. now what? Only thing seems to work on my cwm 6.0.3.1 screen is backup or recovery. (mounting and formatting partions also works)
Is it available as a cwm6+ backup archive that can be restored into a system running mobile odin?

Can u restore a nand backup? You probably cause this by formatting system and then not flashing a rom. It wiped your system out.

He won't be able to even restore a nand backup as is. I did this in error before myself. It can't even load the SD card when it gets wiped like that. You need odin and a USB cable. Sorry your out of luck until you get one.
Go to WorstBuy pick one up for $30, use it once then return it Then buy a replacement from monoprice for like $3.
haha sucks bro.. thats why i dont flash anything unless i have a pc to fix it when and if it messes up.. you did something wrong tho, like the other person said, formatted /system without flashing a rom so it has nothing to boot from.. put it in dl mode and flash a rom in odin borrow someones cable haha, there not hard to find.. lots of things use the same type cable..
Hi everybody,
I'm getting into the new AOKP Milestone 4 from the Codename 1.5.0 - so I downloaded the files and get recovery (clockwork 5.5.0.2) to make the wipes and flash the new rom and gapps... the usual routine.
Wipe data - Wipe Cache - Wipe Dalvik - Flash AOKP - FLASH GAPPS - REBOOT
1st strange thing after that: the Old Franco Kernel bootlogo. And in stuck, obv.
Why the Franco bootlogo? Bah, re-wipe everything and go on...
Nothing, stuck on Franco. So I decided to re.wipe everything again and re install the Codename android, 1.5.0 - the same wich i was coming from - to get the phone work for tomorrow. And here we go for the biggest surprise.
EVERYTHING IS HOW I LEFT BEFORE THE WIPES WHEN I WAS ON CODENAME!!!!!
Same routine, flashed Codename and reboot. Franco logo and then no configuration wizard, no backups.. everything was EXACTLY like how i left before the first attempt!!! My apps, my homescreen, even my login account, like i have never attempt any wipe or flash!!!!
IT DOESN'T WIPE ANYTHING, ANYMORE!
I'm getting mad.. tried this ten times. It's like nothing is getting wiped!
P.s: clockwork is correctly installed.. i've tried TONS of roms on my gnexus, everything has ALWAYS worked fine. No errors during wiping, usuals script "wiping /data .... wiping /cache etc.." until "DONE". No error flashing the AOKP.
Help please..

Hey there,
mike, the dev from Android Revolution HD, has a super wipe script in his thread, on the first page, might want to try that one.
It works like flashing a ROM

You are not wiping correctly. You are having problems because the system and boot partitions were not wiped at all....

Already tried. Same results, it ends successfully the superwipe string.. and then no wipe at all!
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot -w (might wipe SD card)
or
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot update update.zip (for installing the rom)
Ok new infos.
From the log file the /data wipe seems to be undone due to the "filesystem is read only".
Any ideas?
Stupid question... but maybe check if the device is still rooted and unlocked correctly?
Maybe something messed up there...
these are signs that the internal hdd is getting screwed up... like the partition values... its a known issue for all samsung devices. the i9000 had it, the nexus s had it. they even have a lot of threads out there reporting issues abt it but no fix till now. i even had it with my nexus s (which is now a paperweight)
some fixed it with a simple wipe using oem lock n unlock, others fastboot wipe....
the most common symptom is that you can see a lot of files on your phone, but can neither delete them nor add anyting to the sdcard.
As anton2009 said, you should try wiping all the partitions, then reflash CWM, then flash your ROM/kernel.
Reboot into fastboot and type the following:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata Note this will wipe/sdcard
fastboot erase cache
Then flash CWM and then ROM/kernel.

Guys, all of your data is stored on the userdata partition. Most ROMs I don't think flash that partition, so all the data still remains. As well, I don't think every ROM includes a kernel, so the boot partition is not erase either. Wiping in CWM does not wipe /sdcard (which is actually located on the userdata partition as /data/media).
Use what I had posted 2 posts up and it will certainly wipe.

I also think your solution will work well.
My only question is about new rom flashing: erasing ALL datas even in the /sdcard how will I be able to flash new roms if there will be nothing more on the phone? Where will i get'em?
Will I need to flash again even the CWM?
Sorry for the stupid question..

You can still wipe userdata, boot into Android (obviously you can't do this if you wipe system), and download a rom from there. Otherwise you can download a rom onto your computer and then:
adb push /where/your/file/is/rom.zip /data/media/download
This will put the file from your computer to your download folder in your SD card. I'd recommend pulling any necessary files before you wipe userdata (such as music, pictures, etc) or you can pull the whole SD card (adb pull /data/media) and then cherry pick what you want to add back later.
SOLVED.
Wiped all with fastboot, pushed new rom with adb push and flash it.
Just to feel relaxed installed a couple of apps, gone back in recovery and tried to wipe data/cache/dalvick then re-flashed AOKP, everything is now working fine, the wipe erase all app and userdata now.
Hope this won't happen anymore.. thank you all..

I feel sooooo newbie, but.. how can I do that?
Backing up and restoring /sdcard is very time-consuming and usually unnecessary in these situations. It only takes a minute to fix the filesystem errors on /data and then you can wipe data as normal (in CWM, no need to use fastboot which also erases /sdcard). Just boot into CWM and in an adb shell:
Code:
e2fsck /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
Answer 'y' to everything if prompted. Done.

Error while restoring /system!
I did nothing but boot into recovery and this is all that happens when trying to recover my cwm backups. The version of CWM should not have changed and I've flashed these files before. I accidentally started another backup and shut the phone off while it was plugged in through usb (debugging might have been enabled but I don't use adb commands or have a shell).
I can restore my rom but I want to restore my backup.
How can I know the version of the backups and see if they are different from the cwm recovery version? Also in the past I have flashed and backup through rom manager, but would my rom manager boot into cwm recovery load a different cwm recovery (it shouldn't)?
I also tried this...reload the rom but restore each partition except for system, but it fails on data too then.
At a loss here. I love my backup. I was just a system camera apk away from perfection
Please help
Solution: 5 hours of playing around and the solution is that you need to make sure the cwm version is always the same...through rom manager.
Hey guys..
May need some help here as I've currently soft bricked my mum's device while trying to update to CM11 (2014-01-05: CM-11.0 20140105-UNOFFICIAL) from CM10 (2013-10-23: CM10 Final Release) for i8150 Samsung Galaxy Wonder. Below are the details how did I bricked it, what I've done and etc. Hope some one could help me.
What have I done to soft bricked it
Tried to update to CM11 from CM10 while still using CWM 6.0.1.2. Flashed CWM 6.0.4.5-ancora after that using ODIN but stuck at bootloop no matter what I do.
View attachment 2495891
What I've done trying to unbricked it
1. Reflashing back to stock rom (ODIN shows FAILED for some reason)
2. Reflashing between CM10 & CM11 (installing gapps for each version as well)
3. Installing different ROM version.
4. Taking the battery out for 1 whole night
5. Wiping delvick, restore factory settings / wupe user data, format data, format cache, format system, wipe cache partition
The situation now
Able to go into recovery & download mode, all buttons working
Not sure if this helps but when I try to charge the phone, the battery will show as below without any charging status. After 2 minutes the phone will be powered on automatically.

Also, if you want to install new ROM, do this step :
Go to CWM
select "wipe data / factory reset"
go to "mounts & storage" and select "format /system". This is extremely important!!
under the same menu, format /sdcard0 (be careful NOT to format /sdcard1 by mistake)
install the ROM (from the external sd)
install Gapps (from the external sd)
reboot your phone

Thanks for your reply. Yes all disabled, luckily I managed to find an old laptop running on Win7 and successfully rolled back to Touchwiz.
Now the phone boots normally but I could not re-flash it to CM10.1 any more, it will get stuck at the bootlop again. :crying:
I have a problem with my TWRP backups created for 32.3.A.2.33 version. When I restore them, the phone restarts once and in the next boot int goes into recovery directly.
I have flashed:
E6853_32.3.A.2.33_1299-1511_R3D.ftf
Boot and recovery from:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5...ting-xperia-z5-z5p-variants-drm-keys-t3437902
And works perfectly, backups creates correctly from recovery, but when I try to recover them doesn't work.
The problem seems to be in system partition , data partition recover with no problems.
Any suggestions?
I have the same problem.

Is dm-verity turned off in kernel? If not this is the reason why. You need to backup system image instead of backup files from system partition like usually in TWRP.
Can you try to make backup and restore with this recovery?
flash with "fastboot flash recovery lineage_twrp_recovery.img"
To boot into recovery power off phone, wait 5-7 sec then press power+vol_down until it vibrate.
Select "System Image" to system partition backup.
