Just figured out what a nice difference this is making. It can help a lot if you text a lot.
I use it after texting and gtalking and Internet browsing. Idea is cut off the last 30 seconds of screen on time when you set the phone down it stick in pocket, by tapping the widget.
This way you can set screen timeout to 2m if you want for reading (I never need more than that for interacting with a book to change pages) but get the benefit of having a super short timeout like 15 seconds.

Oh and pressing the power button wears it out and is not ergonomic like tapping.
Why would you need this if you can just press the power button to turn off the screen? You're pressing something either way. Makes no sense. Now if you have a broken power button, then that's a different story.

Well op's suggestion can help you save the power button.

Personally I use screen off, I've tried the OP and others but didn't like em as much as this one. It uses the search captive search button to turn off the screen

Yes forgot to mention this was the main reason. I was paranoid about killing the power button. Pressing the power button wears it out and is not ergonomic like tapping.

I hope I'm being blind but I can't see it. Hell I only found out recently that a long press on the back button brings up bookmarks, history and saved web pages.
Someone please tell me I'm being blind.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's been a home button in stock browser in a long time (if ever).
Im guessing if you open a new window, it will go to your homepage.

That is a massive tip it's been drving me nuts having to scroll to the top.
Yea I don't think there is a home button. I like the Honeycomb browser and the MIUI Siren Browser where the tabs are visible at the top like a desktop browser.
Not quite the home button but you can type a search into the address bar (with a quick flick to bring to life)
Although I can't answer your question, I like to thank you for the tip. Long pressing the back button is a great shortcut to get fast into the bookmark menu!

This Menu button only appears, if phone doesn't have hardware Menu button.
If you use on-screen buttons, which doesn't have menu button either, then that button appears in some apps.
But I have used a ROM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786871
It has this button too. I want to know how to make this button apear.
As I said, that Menu button appears if phone doesn't have own Menu key (enabled).

But that ROM don't have any on screen button, and the hard-ware Menu key is still working.
In total, do you know what to let it apear
Is there any body know? Please answer me

I'm not sure, but mine seemed to turn up when I flashed AeonWorld's Xperia S Lockscreen. It does however, turn up in every app, like the web browser or youtube. The Links below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748622 (I also flashed the reboot option, that might be the reason too)
decompile framework-res.apk go to res/values/bools.xml and change the line navigationmenu(something like this don't remember exactly) to "true"
Eh.. I got it, thx

In addition to taking you to your homescreen, the Galaxy S III’s physical home button is used to activate Samsung’s S Voice feature By default, double clicking the home button will automatically bring up S Voice. However, in order to recognize a double click, the Galaxy S III must add a few milliseconds of delay..
This is known already. If you are putting "Tip" in the Title then it should be an actual tip in there. Just my take. I may be wrong... But I doubt it. Not to be a butt head but sheesh... lol

I think the recessed home button is inevitable :\
And if you touch the screen all sorts of stuff happens. Thats tip #2.

if you press the power button your screen will go black, tip#3
Came across another tip while trying this one out!
In addition to filling the cavity in the rear of the phone, the Galaxy S III’s battery provides power to the phone. By default the phone experiences extreme lag without a battery (days, even months).
*Samsung was forced via an Apple lawsuit to install this delay by default.

My ET is pretty beat up. Used to be on my girls account but she ditched it because it kept restarting on her. I picked it up n started messing with it lately when i finally got free time and quickly figured out that the problem was just the power button. When pressed it eventually just reboots the phone for some reason , so temporarily the only solution is to leave the screen timeout to ten minutes. I also have a pretty borked usb port. Itll work but only if i hold whatever cable down really hard. Im trying to get this ET to the point where i can use it maybe with a mod where the volume buttons or bottom capacitive buttons are the power button instead. IK this is possible somehow but ive been out of the loop with thia device so i have no idea how. I managed to get stock rooted EL29 which is what im familiar and comfortable with but theres no cwm or twrp. So basically what im asking is if someone can bring me up to speed to where i can get a nice rom going on this thing with possibly the aeforementioned mod so i can use this device thats other wise being wasted. Thanks in advance.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
If you are running el29 then you need to flash a kernel with recovery. If your usb port is messed up then you can use mobile odin to flash a kernel. If there is no physical damage or water damage to the phone then take it to a Sprint service center and pay the $36 or whatever to get it repaired under warranty.
Do you know if any of the jb rims or the like have mods to use other buttons as the power button.? I'm actually not even using the phone on sprint so can't get a replacement.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
If its been less than a year since purchase you can contact samsung for a warranty repair. Also there are apps in the market to do what you want.

I can't seem to get any of those apps to actually work. I have an independent battery charger so I really just need a way to turn the screen on without the power button. Could've sworn there were ROMs that had this type of mod as an option.

On stock touchwiz and most TW based roms, you can use the Home/Power buttons at the same time. Hit the home button a split second before power and hold them both for a few seconds. I understand Heisenberg is AOKP based, but its worth a shot. I've also seen some AOSP based roms where you can add it to the power menu. Hope this helps.

I've never used Heisenberg, but I remember in some CM builds I used on my GS2 there was something in settings to add screenshot to the power menu. Maybe try combing though settings to see if you can find that? Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Sorry.
