Unique situation need help - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

My ET is pretty beat up. Used to be on my girls account but she ditched it because it kept restarting on her. I picked it up n started messing with it lately when i finally got free time and quickly figured out that the problem was just the power button. When pressed it eventually just reboots the phone for some reason , so temporarily the only solution is to leave the screen timeout to ten minutes. I also have a pretty borked usb port. Itll work but only if i hold whatever cable down really hard. Im trying to get this ET to the point where i can use it maybe with a mod where the volume buttons or bottom capacitive buttons are the power button instead. IK this is possible somehow but ive been out of the loop with thia device so i have no idea how. I managed to get stock rooted EL29 which is what im familiar and comfortable with but theres no cwm or twrp. So basically what im asking is if someone can bring me up to speed to where i can get a nice rom going on this thing with possibly the aeforementioned mod so i can use this device thats other wise being wasted. Thanks in advance.

If you are running el29 then you need to flash a kernel with recovery. If your usb port is messed up then you can use mobile odin to flash a kernel. If there is no physical damage or water damage to the phone then take it to a Sprint service center and pay the $36 or whatever to get it repaired under warranty.

Do you know if any of the jb rims or the like have mods to use other buttons as the power button.? I'm actually not even using the phone on sprint so can't get a replacement.

If its been less than a year since purchase you can contact samsung for a warranty repair. Also there are apps in the market to do what you want.

I can't seem to get any of those apps to actually work. I have an independent battery charger so I really just need a way to turn the screen on without the power button. Could've sworn there were ROMs that had this type of mod as an option.

i believe widget locker(lockscreen replacement) will allow the use of volume to turn on the screen.

[REQ] Rotary Lockscreen...

Is there anyway to port this type of lockscreen to the Epic?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919121
I know that I can use WidgetLocker, and I've already bought it but I don't really like it. It seems to lag, like when i hit thte power button from standby, I see the original ASOP screen first and a second later the widgetlocker rotary pops up.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to address this?

that would be nice the one with the four option is hot
you can get this on Cm6 but right not no devs are willing to do all this work then have to redo it when an official 2.2 is out

If you are rooted you can use the 5 second rule bypass on the widgetlocker advance options.
If you are not rooted then use the homehelper option in the widgetlocker options.
I use no lock with widget locker. It disables the stock lock but does cause a half second lag for the screen to turn on, which doesn't bug me as much. The lag could be caused by my widgets though, not sure
So does anyone know if someone has ported this to work with EB13 or any of the custom roms? I've used to on he CM7 Alpha build, and I was wonderinf if someone took the time to port it. I'd do it myself, but at this point I have little to no knowlegde with any of the languages used to program this stuff.
I'm not sure if this is allowed, but bump haha.

Can someone explain this to me please ?

Hi guys,
Im still disappointed about my screen and looking to exchange my phone pretty soon. But for now I have other issue.
Tonight I was texting with my phone and my battery was around 60%, then suddenly my phone froze and it got shut-off. I tried to turn it on but nothing happened so I removed the battery and the phone turnes on just fine. Then I notice a ~%30 drop in my battery level as it shows in the picture I have attached. What the hell is this and why mu phone froze ??
I never rooted the phone and it is still lock to Telus.
Thank You in advance.

well according tot he usage tracker, there was some serious usage by the drop on WiFi, Awake and Screen
on the other hand that sudden drop, could mean the battery actually had less charge than the sensor detected, so it readjusted itself
Oh so after the restarted the phone detected the actual charge of the phone ? So thata kinda normal ?
How about the frozen phone ? Has anyone had their T989 phone frozen so far ?
Sent from my SGH-T989D using Tapatalk
I've had mine for almost 2 weeks now (stock, not rooted) and it hasn't frozen/restarted/etc.
Also luckily I have minimal screen issues. I would exchange it and hopefully get a better one, because I really love this phone!
Not sure in your case but
i know some root only required apps allow you to push/continue anyways maybe a force close or something caused a freeze

Stuck in Safe Mode

I'm not referring about bootloader or recovery, but Safe Mode. The phone boots up, but the word Safe Mode is on the bottom left corner of my screen. My downloaded apps are missing(part of safe mode), but the pre-installed apps are still accessible.
I've tried the obvious things such as turning off and back on and pulling the battery but I can't get it to just boot normally.
I don't want to have to wipe it unless I have to, especially since I'm unsure that will fix it.
Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions as to how to get it out of Safe Mode?
Thanks

I had an Inc come into my store a few months back that was stuck in safe mode. I tried everything I could think of that was standard policy. We called tech support and they just did a warranty replacement.

No luck there either
One last thing. Power off the phone. Hold vol down and power until you see Hboot. Select factory reset. You use the vol up and down to scroll and power to select. Then reboot.

Sebahz87, already tried that as it was suggested earlier by gaby04. No luck.
Have you tried rooting it? Although I am not sure what all safe mode disables. If you can root then try flashing another rom.
Although I would still file a warranty claim unless you don't have a warranty. I can't think of anything else to help.

Ended up having to get a replacement under warranty. Looks like it was a hardware issue. My vol+up button didn't work and my vol+down button was stuck.

Proud owner of a Note 2 with a few questions

This is my first post on XDA(excluding a copy of this in the general forum by mistake lol) and what a way to start, just bought a Galaxy Note 2 N7100 White today(although I would've loved the grey one but got a good price on this so yeh). Got to say, so far I love the phone and apart from the size, I have no gripes with it. I'm thinking that if I am struggling a little bit right now and it is without a cover, how would it be with a cover on? I guess I'll use it for a few days and see. Galaxy S3 feels tiny in the hand now lol(never thought I'd say that). I have a couple of questions and would be glad if someone could answer them.*Does anyone know how to make one app full screen when using the multiwindow feature? Also, how to swap apps? I saw a video online which had two buttons next to the divider line but there aren't any buttons showing up on mine. I have an o2 variant if that is any help.Am i able to flash a stock rom(without o2 splash screen and bloatware) without rooting? Would this unlock the device also? Thanks

you can try holding your back button, the multiscreen side bar should shows. If its not, you can try to update you phone via software update in your phone.

To make the app full screen:
With the arrow in the divider pointing to the app you want full screen, touch the divider. Two options should pop up. Choose the big window.

To change apps:
Drag another app from the multi window to the location of the app you want to replace.

Great way to showcase the S Pen. However, my Note 2 doesn't seem to be showing me any of those buttons.
.
Anyone?
Which two buttons?
The buttons mentioned in the above post, onrbof which makes the app full screen and other swaps which side of the bar the app should be on.

What he did means is OP got to touch or click the middle bar as i put no 1, in order to make indication as no 2 come out..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Yes I understand and that is what I am doing but no buttons showing up. I can't think of anything that is causing this. There are no updates or maybe if I flash a stock ROM onto it rather than the o2 one, it might work? What do you think? Also will it improve the performance of the phone?

Use screen off widget when done texting to improve battery efficiency

Just figured out what a nice difference this is making. It can help a lot if you text a lot.
I use it after texting and gtalking and Internet browsing. Idea is cut off the last 30 seconds of screen on time when you set the phone down it stick in pocket, by tapping the widget.
This way you can set screen timeout to 2m if you want for reading (I never need more than that for interacting with a book to change pages) but get the benefit of having a super short timeout like 15 seconds.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=turn.off.the.lights
Oh and pressing the power button wears it out and is not ergonomic like tapping.
Why would you need this if you can just press the power button to turn off the screen? You're pressing something either way. Makes no sense. Now if you have a broken power button, then that's a different story.

Personally I use screen off, I've tried the OP and others but didn't like em as much as this one. It uses the search captive search button to turn off the screen

Yes forgot to mention this was the main reason. I was paranoid about killing the power button. Pressing the power button wears it out and is not ergonomic like tapping.
