Is TWRP Backup corrupted? - HTC Wildfire S

This is my first post. First, I want to say sorry if my English is bad.
I switched my recovery from CWM 5.0.2.8 to TWRP 2.3.3.0 via Nandroid Manager 1.0. I made backups using TWRP successfully. After reboot I would try to see the result in Nandroid Manager. I can read backup contents without problem. But the confusion started when I click restore apps+data in that app. It says no apps found in the backup. I tried to open an app in the backup explorer, but it says parsing error when I opened it. I also tried to extract backup to my sdcard but I can't find it on my sdcard. However, there is no problems when restoring app+data using Titanium Backup.
I've become very afraid if I keep using that, so without think about it again, I reverted my recovery back to CWM 5.0.2.8 again.
is the backup really corrupted or is it caused by a ?bug? in nandroid manager ?
My device :
HTC Wildfire S A510e

Hi firstly welcome to xda
Now nandroid manager should have a debug log in the settings. Can you check/post the log?
also how many back ups did you test on? It was maybe a corrupt back up. Try making two to compare too.
On a side note as long as you have the bootloader and a known working backup you are fairly safe to experement

Thank you for the reply.
The debug log is currently disabled by the developer (even in version 1.0.2). I think there are no problems with my backups. The backup can be explored in PC with no problem as a TAR archive (TAR.GZ if compressed). I think it is really a bug in Nandroid Manager because Titanium Backup does extract them with no problem. I'll wait until the developer fix this.

[Q] Nandroid Backup

Ok I have 5 nandroid backups named by date..Is there a way I can tell which rom they are without actually flashing each? I have vael, ava, myn, and stock and I can't tell which is which.
As for your question I don't have an answer.
But, after a nandroid, I've always gone in and renamed it so I could tell what it is, using a file explorer.
I agree
I said the hell with it reflashed/renamed the latest two and will rename after a backup in the future.
Use rom manager. You can restore, rename or delete your nandroid backups.
That is if your using clockwork.

Just put in USB mode after nandroid and rename your backup from now on

Rom Manager question (backup rom)

I was just wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I'm having.
When I go into rom manager and try to back up current rom, it goes through the process but then it says it failed and to reboot phone and open rom manager to report error.
Am I doing somthing wrong?
I've done it once before but when I change to the new rom I have, it won't let me back it up.
Thanks for any help in this matter

Didn't think you could use rom manager for backups but if you need to backup just boot into recovery via 3 finger salute and go to backup and restore and backup that way. That way you have a for sure nandroid backup. Just don't rename the file it creates.

Online Backup via Terminal Emulator

I used Terminal Emulator to backup my phone (through CWM) using a command 'on android'. Unfortunately, I can't restore the backup... a little help? Is this a known bug?

I'm not sure what exactly you mean, you shouldn't be doing a full nandroid backup via the terminal emulator or even when the phone is 'active'.
To properly do a backup.
Reboot into Recovery
Backup (which saves it to a folder on SD Card /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup)
to restore
Same steps just 'restore' instead of backup.
Otherwise I think you need to be more clear what you mean. Though as always steps like that should not be done while the OS is running.
My bad, check this out.

I completely followed the steps and I even got the full in the standard Cwm folder in the SD card. However It says error in boot image when I try to restore it. Its a pain in the arse cos I just wanted to try out the test builds for Andromadus jb. Now I'm kinda stuck with it... The process of backing up again will be quite a task... hope that's clearer

1) Never completely rely on a backup tool until you have tested it completely to work. (ie: don't use it expecting that to be the backup you require), in otherwords use recovery in the mean time for nandroid backups.
2) There was a text in bright red on the first post regarding if it couldn't find the boot image to flash such and such zip (probably to make it work after the fact).
The OP's rom is CM7 in his signature, it probably doesn't understand how to correctly backup ICS roms if you are using one. I wouldn't really use an online nandroid tool , rather if I needed something for online backups (such as of apps and settings) I would use something like Titanium Backup.
Also some recoveries (like 4EXT Touch Recovery), using the recovery control can be made to schedule a nandroid backup (ie; reboots into recovery makes a full backup, reboots back into the phone when done).
Far as making your existing backup work, I'm not certain, you might have to flash the rom it's based off of clean, then remove the boot image from the backup and then try to perform a recovery without it (not sure if it's possible with clockworkmod, but I know in 4EXT you can do an advanced restore selecting which exact part you'd like to restore such as your data or system partition).
Thanks Keebz I kinda got it sorted now through titanium backup. Thanks for your time though

adb backup if you're not rooted.
If rooted then titanium backup pro best app available for tasks like this. Has a batch feature to backup what you need and restore again also you can save your backup to dropbox.

It is somehow helpfull, but still:
It works for all user installed apps flawless.
BUT i cannot complete it for system apps! For none of them! It doesnt give me an error or so, it (the progress bar) just freezes when trying to backup sys apps....
My phone is of course rooted...

Nandroid Backup

Hi everyone,
I'm having issues with Nandroid backup and restore.
After flashing ARHD 17.1 from 17.0 without wiping, everytime I make a backup it says that there was an error backing up /system and when I you try to restore it, it says MD5 mismatch.
The latest backup that I was able to use was using the backup before I flashed 17.1.
Is there any way I could fix this without wiping? I'm on a vacation right now and don't have a computer handy.
Hope you can help me out! Thanks and advance happy new year!

Its always advisable to wipe data and cache b4 flashing the old backup or a new rom...its always good and prevents many issues...!!
U need a computer to solve the md5 sum mismatch error....after that if your backup is genuine (without problems) then it ll surely work..just some commands to execute...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Scroll through the first post and you will find the proper commands..!!
Cheers..!!
Thanks! Will try that when I return home from vacation.
I just read from the ARHD forum that you can flash without wiping if coming from another version.
How about my apps and their data? I not really sure if everything's backed up. How can I make sure?

You can backup the apps and their data by using titanium backup from the playstore..! i guess thats your best bet as you dont have computer handy...!! make backup by titanium backup and then upload the backup to some good cloud sharing sites and when your problem gets solved you can restore that backup..!!
:good:

Hmm, if you rename the backup with spaces, you'll get an md5 mismatch during restore, but no idea why you get one during backup.

That's what have heppened to me, MD5 mismatch, but after removing spaces from the name of the backup I was able to restore it.
Where does Nandroid save the backups? I might have to check.
Also, how do I use titanium backup? I don't know what option to select.
Hope you can help me out.

Just go to backup/restore (middle tab)
Then tap on the icon in upper right-hand corner, then you can select e.g. backup all user apps + system data.
Restore in the same manner. :good:
Thanks! So that's how you back things up! I was just running the 2 items under schedule and I'm not sure if that's it.
Thanks again and happy new year!
Cheers!
