I was just wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I'm having.
When I go into rom manager and try to back up current rom, it goes through the process but then it says it failed and to reboot phone and open rom manager to report error.
Am I doing somthing wrong?
I've done it once before but when I change to the new rom I have, it won't let me back it up.
Thanks for any help in this matter

Didn't think you could use rom manager for backups but if you need to backup just boot into recovery via 3 finger salute and go to backup and restore and backup that way. That way you have a for sure nandroid backup. Just don't rename the file it creates.

Ok I have 5 nandroid backups named by date..Is there a way I can tell which rom they are without actually flashing each? I have vael, ava, myn, and stock and I can't tell which is which.
As for your question I don't have an answer.
But, after a nandroid, I've always gone in and renamed it so I could tell what it is, using a file explorer.
I agree
I said the hell with it reflashed/renamed the latest two and will rename after a backup in the future.
Use rom manager. You can restore, rename or delete your nandroid backups.
That is if your using clockwork.

Just put in USB mode after nandroid and rename your backup from now on

Can you delete a rom off your sd card after youve installed said rom and done a nandroid backup? will that backup still bootup and run correctly
If you talking about the actual ROM zip file then yes you can delete it. If you are talking about deleting other Nandroid backups yes you can. Just make sure you don't delete the most recent nand backup.
thank you sir
I usually like to keep my ROM on my SD card so if something goes wrong, at least I have it. The only time this practice has ever been useful was when I flashed Amon Ra and tried to flash a new ROM. Went into bootloops and found out the hard way that Clockwork nand backups don't work with Amon Ra. Because I had my ROM, I fixed it easily.
Just my two cents. Nandroids usually do the trick, though.

I usually keep 2 nand backups on my SD card 1 stock sense and 1 of my current rom. If I have any other roms Ill just save them to my pc to keep room in the sd card clear.
finding this out now flashed amon ra 1.8 and doesnt see any downloaded roms on sd card, rebooted phone and i have no service. working off wifi only, rom manager is gone and I cant access the market to download ,any ideas
"the process com.android.phone has stopped"
Do you have Rom Manager? If so you can try flashing ClockworkMod...
Sorry, just reread your post...

Place the ROM on the root of your SD card. It must not be in your download folder.
I learned my lesson today and will always keep a zip of a rom on my card. The latest version of clockwork was a bust. I couldn't use my phone for almost 2 days. Thank god I fixed it.

OK. so what happens if you are running beliEVO and then flash Cyanogen. Can you restore a backup from a previous ROM without bricking the device? And if you can will app data be there?

If you had done a nandroid backup of the beliEVO rom before flashingCyanogen rom, then yes, your can restore the backup and all the apps will be there.
But it's always a good thing to backup the apps before flashing a new rom.

Awesome. Same rules apply if it was not specifically a Nandroid? I used ROM manager prior to flashing Cyanogen.
This is a helpful thread, i was also wondering this...
I have a question, can I rename my nandroid backups on my SD card so I know which backups are which?
Also, sorry to sorta hijack your thread, but I backup my apps with mybackup, and data with titanium, but how do I restore that info if/when I flash a new rom? I'm using cm6 and loving it but would like to try more... thanks!

yes, you can rename backups for both RA and CWM backups, I've has issues with putting spaces in the names though so use _ or -
Ok so I'm new to androids completly. Was looking to root my new phone. Let me start off by saying I'm in Japan and have the HTC Evo 4G. I was attempting to use unrevoked but seem to be stuck at how to get to the hboot. I just updated to 2.3.4 and when I power off my phone then hit volume down and power button to gain access to hboot it simply turns the phone back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Head over the the revolutionary.io site, you should be good to go. You have to use that method to root for gingerbread on the evo.
Check this thread for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
And turn off fast boot in settings/applications and then try to boot into hboot I think thats where it is I'm not sure I haven't been on sense in a while I'm not even sure if a stock ROM has it but look there to boot into hboot.

disregard this post please
Take out the battery, put it back in, hold volume down + power key for 3-5 seconds to get into bootloader. Theres a youtube video, can't remember what its called, but it shows step by step on how to root through Revolutionary. Very easy. Took me like 5 min to root

Rooted!!
Ok so I managed to get it rooted without bricking. Currently backing up the phone then will look into ROM's. Thanks for the posts

the recovery should be a PC36IMG.zip you flash that in hboot just make sure its on the root of your sdcard not in any folders then when you go to hboot it will find the update just except it.
The su apk should be a flashable zip just boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then go to flash zip and choose that zip and flash it then reboot.
If this is your first time in recovery before you do anything make a nandroid backup this will backup everything in case anything goes wrong you can restore the backup and your phone will be just the way it was when you made the backup.

Ok got it all figured out. To be honest you had me lost and I almost made another noob post but I got it now. Figured out the whole flash to SD card deal. I am 100% rooted now. Now for a ROM
I downloaded the synergy rom and it deleted my carrier email app. Do all roms do this?? I'll say it again here, I'm in japan so might be a little different from the states. Anybody know how I could get it back using this rom?? Or a good rom to use that won't delete this app.

What happens is when you flash a rom, its a whole new phone basically [os] so it comes packaged with its own apps, themes. What you can do is:
- go into recovery, backup your current rom
- restore your initial backup
- use / download es file explorer [free] from the market
- enable su permissions, then navigate to /system/app and copy it to your sd card
- go back to recovery, restore the synergy backup
- once booted, install the app from the sd card
or if it was backed up, open titanium backup, restore the app and data.
Thanks for the help teh roxxorz. I got the mail thing figured out. Worked with es file but didn't work to well with titanium backup. Took some trial and error to find all the files needed cuz the paste the whole folder didn't work. Having other issues finding the contacts and getting force closes, so I decided to just not use that rom. On to finding another good one that works.

So I tried miui and that didn't work as well. Couldn't get the mail to work at all on that rom. Anybody happen to be in Japan and using this phone and could suggest a good rom to use that they have their au email and contacts moved over on, and have minimal issues?

I was running CWM and decided to go back to TWRP for various reasons.
I used Goo Manager to flash the latest version. After flashing I went into recovery to make a backup of Wicked...then rebooted.
I then went to Rom Manager to see my backups....nothing there. Soooo I did another backup from Rom Manager.
After it rebooted I looked at my backups...still nothing.
So im back on CWM. Has anyone had this problem? Curious to know why its doing this.

ROM Manager is made by the same individual that made CWM. Makes sense they work together.
Not surprised ROM Manager can't see TWRP backups.

You just don't know how to use TWRP or CWM very well.
If you saw CWM and TWRP successfully backing up your rom then the problem
is that you don't know how to navigate in those recoveries and find the backups.
You need to get better acquainted with twrp and cwm, if you do you will find the backups.
Perhaps they are in a folder... (hint hint)..........
I am very familiar with both. There are NO backups in the TWRP folder. Also Rom Manager list your backups. Once again it shows no TWRP backups. And yes I had Rom Manager set up for TWRP

If you just want to find the nandroid backups, why not simply use Root Explorer, or another
file manager and find the backups, that way you will see exactly where they are located.
Once you find the backups, you can move or copy them to any other folder you like
and restore with CWM or TWRP.
If you cannot find the backups, it means that twrp and or cwm did not successfully create the backups.
Good luck!
I have Root Explorer. TWRP files are empty. Oh well im gonna hang in CWM till I figure this out. TY for ur help

Hi, I stupidly went back to stock and lost my imei number without making a efs backup, when I used aroma it asked if I wanted to make an efs backup and I said yes.
Would that backup help me in returning fully to stock rom? If so, where would that backup be stored in my phone?
Hope someone can help
Thanks a lot

The backup you made will be no good cause it will contain the efs of the new rom you installed.. you can check though. The efs backup will be on your sd card..
Sdcard/EFS
In efs theres folders inc imei wifi bluetooth etc

Do I have to be rooted to see that folder? As its not in my sd card, the only way I can see that folder is in root explorer but im not rooted at the moment.
Can I ask one more question? If I were to put stock rom back on my phone and use newer modem, my imei and network will come back, would I be able to get ota updates? Because when ive tried to search for an update, it would just hang on searching.

Yes. Copy them to your pc under efs backup aswell for safe keeping. There are guides on here of how to restore your efs with 4.1.2 roms but you will need root.
As you have efs backup I found this for you. Make sure you read and understand before doing anything..

That zip file in the link is a app. Download install.. if you backed up the efs on the stock rom before flashing the new rom it will work..
The only other thing to do is flash this modem via cwm recovery.
It says it fixes the problem

You've backed up the new modified efs folder which is only compatible with the new firmwares. You can restore from that backup, in fact you need to, but there is no going back to old firmware now. You can achieve stock if you download and flash a stock rom of version DME6 or newer, but you can never use anything older again.

How would I go about restoring that backup from efs pro? As when I am trying to select it in the restore section of efs pro it can not be seen in drop down box?
It is in tar format, there is a pit file with it but I guess as I wiped everything out of my actual efs folder through root explorer it might not work.
Also I have a pop up on my screen with loads of different information like an error pop up? I cant screen shot it other wise I would show u
