I have a new Epic 4g, It was activated and all that... I rooted it using Odin and the prerooted mtd stock rom... then i updated to twrp recovery...still no problem. Flashed a rom or two, no issue...
Now though I cannot activate my phone when I flash the newest Slim Bean v 3.4, or the RemICS-UX JB v3.1 Build 2 rom because I continue to get the error that the phone is on Airplane mode, eventhough they are not, I have toggled airplane mode, and tried all kinds of things yet still on these ROM's (these are the only two I have flashed other than a stock rooted rom- which i have ZERO problem with).
Am I failing to remember to do something so that I can flash these roms and have working data and an activated phone???
I am not by any means new to flashing roms or figuring most issues out but this one, well it's just annoying and since I have been away from an Android device, I am assuming i am just having a brain fart here.
Can someone guide me in the proper direction to get my phone activated on either of these roms, all i get is my phone is not activated and I cannot go through with it because it says I must take it off airplane mode, eventhough it's not on airplane mode.
Thanks!

I think RemICS and SlimBean are by default usable only with NS4G modems. Under an NS4G modem-compliant ROM, when you use an Epic 4G modem (baseband) you'll get an infinite airplane mode.
If you don't know what an NS4G modem is and how to change to it then the best bet is to ditch these ROMs and stick to CM10.1.

OK here's the deal. I rooted my wife's Inc 2. Put on miui the newest version. Then I put on tiamat 1.1.5 kernel. When u turn on wifi, make a call or restart the phone bye battery pull or power button it will lose 3g. It is impossible to get it back. I have tried everything that I can think of. Airplane mode, wifi on and then off, restarting phone check all options that could affect it. I have tried with the miui kernel and no luck. Also I have the same setup on my phone and I have no issues. If anyone has any ideas on why this is happening I would love to hear them.
You should try updating the kernel, that will most likely solve your problem.
Do u mean just a different kernel?

Tiamat works great with miui. My first flash borked the wifi too, and a simple reflash of the same kernel fixed it. The kernel included with miui is from cyanogenmod, i believe, and it works fine too.
Do you use a script to wipe the old kernel before installing the new one?
I use the ultimate kernel cleaning script v2 and have had no issues with tiamat.
Thanks for the ideas I will try them out.
Can you give us a feed back I am desperate ,
I downloaded miui from rom manager and miui.us. If I used miui rom from miui.us 3g did not work. If i used the one from rom manager it did work. I know it weird but i was using the one from rom manager on my phone and the 3g was working. Since i didnt put rom manager on her phone i used miui.us. so when I put rom manager on her phone and used that it worked. I dont know why this happened just glad she gets 3g again.
With MUIU right ? i will try it soon , thanks for the idea
It's weird but if i get get back my 3G with it i will use it
If you can run other rom as virtuous an confirm that this method work ,it will be grateful and more hopeful , now too many guys include me are in this situation.
Thanks in advance now five days without 3G, is terrible
up
Any idea here ?
i used rom manager to download miui and the 3g worked. when i used the download from miui.us it 3g did not work. Im also not using miui kernel if that matters. i have used tiamat 1.1.5. i'm Using aeroevan_inc2-0.4 kernel now.
First Android phone, so I still getting up to speed so hoping someone could answer a couple quick questions. I'll start with the questions and then give the history.
1) How do you determine what ROM you have installed?
2) Any ideas why 4G won't connect? Is there any way to troubleshoot this?
3) Is there anyway to tether on 4G?
So I dove right in after purchasing this phone and flashed a ROM (Zedomax) so I could tether. After installing this ROM my battery life went down the drain and it wouldn't hold a charge for more than 6 hours.
So then I flashed the EG30 stock kernel and my battery life returned to normal. Still wanting to tether I tried another ROM (don't remember which one). This ROM had the same battery issues so I once again flashed the stock kernel back to my phone.
So now my battery life is great, but 4g won't connect (i'm in NYC) for a few days now. I've tried pulling battery, want what not to no success.
I believe I am running the stock kernel, but to my surprise I still have root access. No triangle on the home screen and ODIN says I'm using the Samsung Official binary.
Just to clarify, you are flashing kernels, not ROMs. Zedomax is a kernel, EG30 is a kernel, etc. You can find your current kernel version under Settings > About phone > Kernel version.
Also as an FYI, I wouldn't be going all willy nilly flashing kernels that you can't remember the name of. I'd have to imagine that's a good way to possibly brick your phone or have problems like you are with 4G.
I'm no expert on this stuff by any means but I'd probably recommend flashing Bubby's stock kernel or chris41g's version of it that is packaged up with CWM. These will get you back to the stock kernel (assuming you're not there already) and probably get your 4G working. Otherwise you probably need to update your PRL or something along those lines. Someone who actually knows more about this stuff (i.e. not me) may have a better suggestion for you.
Thanks.
Kernel version is 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
Is that stock?

Yep! 10 char
Cool.
So flashing to chris41g's or Bubby's kernels probably won't help me. I'll go searching to figure out how to update my PRL but if anyone has any other ideas I'd be grateful.
Also does anyone know if it is possible to tether over 4G? I was never able to connect unless I turned off 4g before tethering.
It is working again. I started over and flashed Stock-EG30.tar and all is good now.
Out of curiosity did you update your system profile after you flashed? I think it's recommended to do that every time you flash a new kernel.
Settings > About phone > System updates then choose update profile.
Edit - Ahh cool looks like you got it worked out. Cheers!
Nope, I never updated my system profile. That could of been a fix....
Interestingly enough, I was retracing my steps after going stock, after each step I checked 4G connectivity. I lost 4G after enabling AdAway. So I disabled (each change requires a reboot) and got 4G back after the boot. I enabled it again hoping to be able to isolate the issue but after that next reboot I got 4G access with AdAway enabled.
Can't say it is AdAway, but after toggling it, I got 4G back.
I was running latest paranoid android and I wiped cache/dalvic cache after flashing Cerberus in recovery and when the phone booted up it was asking me to Activate (sprint service) my phone. I've never seen this with flashing roms and was wondering if this is a known issue with flashing roms on the S3 or something that can randomly occur from time to time.
Anyone have experience with this before? I had been running Paranoid Android for less than 24 hours but initially didn't have any problems whatsoever.
Itll do that sometimes depending on the rom. Usually does it after a factory reset and installing a cm based rom. Its just asking you to add your google account... you should be fine

This didn't have anything to do with my Google account. I guess I should have been more specific, I mean that my phone is deactivated on Sprint's network as in I can't make phone calls and all the info is missing in about phone. Phone number, PRL and such. I am flashing back to stock right now and hope this fixes it. Will probably give paranoid another go but this doesn't sound like a common issue because I haven't been able to find anything by searching.
When you get back to stock it'll probably reactivate itself. If not (although you can do this regardless just in case), ##72786# in the dialer should set you straight. If I'm not mistaken the screen you're referring to should be gone when you boot stock regardless. Its a bug. Doesn't work for a sprint phone but still buried in the rom
Ahhh... could try manually flashing your modem after the install too

Soon as I flashed the stock rom it tried to activate and initially failed and prompted me to reboot. Second attempt it was successful and then I immediately flashed back to PA and it is working. Going to give it another shot and keep the stock rom on my sd card this time in case I get stuck in a pinch.
I jumped the gun, phone activated fine but signal drops in and out randomly and will not connect to 3g. Just reflashed to stock again and everything seemed fine but signal was still back in and out. Checked under status and PRL read "0" tried updating to no avail so did the dialer code and it did the activation and all is right in the world again, or at least for the moment.
Just trying to figure out why when I flash Paranoid all my settings just disappear
*edit*
Just flashed back to PA this third time after fully making sure that the phone was working and had 3G data and all was right with the world (my phone). Will update if it goes South again but as of right now the phone is behaving properly. Maybe it just wasn't working right the first time and I didn't notice since I was on wifi. Only thing that keeps me from thinking that is I didn't get the Activation message until 12 hours or so after I had flashed and had been using the phone. /shrug
I still think flashing a modem in recovery after installing PA would yield a poisitve result

how do you flash a modem? I am new to this and this is also a problem that I am having with the same rom. I tried searching for a fix and this is where i landed.
Thank you,
and sorry if i am breaking forum rules
I'm trying to flash back to stock or some sort of sense rom so that i can update profile/prl I just changed carriers, i use CM 7 on my evo 4g, I've tried DL a few roms from here are other places and none of them will flash back to stock i always get an error saying assert failed. I am afraid to remove the assert from the zip in case im doing something wrong i dont want to brick my phone. Is there anyway anyone here can help me? I am sorry if this is a noob question i will be quick to provide addition information if needed.
got past assert fail error, installed most up to date stock rooted rom, kept getting incessant errors, and force close, phone was unoperable, reverted to cyanogenmod and still unable to activate on new carrier.
also, when i reverted and tried to fix permissions [common fix for FC error] for some reason the rom was so glitchy that it would get frozen while attempting to fix permissions. so i got nowhere, trying a new rom now to see if that helps, ripping my hair out over this all day long driving me crazy, now i remeber why i stopped using a cell phone
pissed
ive spent all day flashing crap roms that don't work, even supposably the best up to date stock rom i can get from this site, and nothing is working, every time it fails or sends me to endles boot loop;.;;about to see if evo will blend if you know what i mean....
Are you using a USB cable or a custom recovery to flash your roms?
Also, what version is your bootloader?
Finally, why the heck are you on CM7 instead of CM11?

i was using clockwork recovery to flash roms, ended up finally getting it to work by using a custom rom called "swagged out stock* it wasn't that great so i just updated prl and profile activated my new carrier and returned to CM7....
the reason im using cm7 instead of 11 is becuase i am using the evo 4g (supersonic) and the highest version available is 7.2 unless im wrong...
everything is working fine now so im happy, but curious as to why i might want cm11 on here or how i can even get it.

Oh sorry... I thought you had the evo 4g lte (jewel). There are some 10.1 and 10.2 unofficial ports for the supersonic, but I'm not sure of their quality...
Glad you found a way to solve your issue though!
Well, I followed an XDA thread to SIM unlock the M919. It involved downgrading from 4.4.4 to 4.2. and I successfully unlocked my device! But now I have no Wifi... I tried flashing every single modem, every firmware (Official TW ones via Odin, every custom rom using TWRP). They flashed well and everything worked besides the Wifi. I've found some threads from people with the exact same problem (they tried to unlock it using the same method) but those are old threads with no solution.
I've spent 24hrs reading and flashing and wiping and reading again. Any ideas?
Many thanks!
Anyone? If you find me a solution I will Paypal you 20 bucks!

I am having the same issue. My phone was already unlocked though, so no downgrading on my part, but I think we're having the same issue. Is yours showing connected, but usually getting time outs or disconnecting?
My issue happened when I flashed from stock 4.2 to the GPE rom for 5.1. Wi-fi issues. Connected, but exclamation point saying that my connection wasn't working. So I flashed a different rom (candy) and still, I have issues. So I went back to 4.2, stock everything. Stock bootloader, stock rom, stock radio. Still had issues. So I decided maybe flashing a new radio would work, so I flashed NH7 and NK2 (broke my audio). Still didn't work. Realized my bootloader doesn't match the modem, so I flashed 4.4.4 stock bootloader and stock NK2 modem. Tried it with the candy rom. No go. I tried the 4.4.4 stock ROM, wifi still has that stupid exclamation point. I've even gone so far as flashing both the bootloader and the radio over 5 times in one go (with battery pull each time) to see if that will work (starting to go nuts, I guess), but still, no fix.
I've had a temporary fix with Tasker (Connect2wifi), but it doesn't work when my phone is on idle, so I don't get any notifications until I actually wake up my phone.
I'm starting to wonder if it's the physical wifi radio (antenna) inside my phone that's broken. But then I wouldn't be able to connect at all if that's the case, right?

No, unfortunately my issue is very different. I know it isn't hardware related. I've never had any issues with it until the second I downgraded. Wifi just doesn't turn on. When I click on the button it just tries to turn on and after a couple seconds it turns back off, without even detecting any networks. This happens no matter what rom, version of android or modem I use. Downgraded, upgraded, tested every single modem and rom via TWRP and Odin.
