ek02 and broswer troubles

was very excited to get the update but after updating.....
is anyone else having the issue of the screen shutting off when you open up the browser? I did a search on this forum and can't find anyone who has posted about this issue.
I'm running stock ek02. basically, everytime I open up the stock browser the screen goes completely black. push the power button, unlock, happens again.... this has never happened before the update.
currently using opera as an alternative.
anyone else having this issue???

Yes I had this happen this morning. I recieved the EK02 update last week 12/9 in the early AM and this is the first time I encountered this screen blanking bug. It's only happened once but required a reboot to fix the problem. I just tried launching the stock browser again and this bug did not happen this time. I will monitor and update this thread if it happens again.

Happened to me too, amongst other issues since the update. I took the phone in to Best Buy and I'm getting a refurbed one, which sucks and is another story.

so after it happened for the first few reboots immediately after updating, it hasn't happened again.
I feel like a lucky man.
I wonder what was the cause?
Doesn't seem like this has happened to many people so I'll make a special point to keep you two updated on any developments on my end.

Not to hijack this thread, but how about the lock screen turning on very slow after hitting the power button on ek02?

Thanks for the suggestion; thats a good tip. I tried clearing out the cache and the data- no dice.
I think its a bug that is triggered by the screen brightness setting. if you set your screen brightness setting under system to the lowest setting, go into browser, turn on manual brightness, slide that all the way down, it seems to happen more.
I've moved on to playing with some custom roms though so someone will have to try that out and see?

Phone waking up on 4.2 :(

When I lock the phone using the power key after certain time it wakes up again automatically... It keeps happening... Any way to resolve this, which application is causing such an issue

man, that's already the 3rd if not 4th thread abut this issue, one being opened by myself...
glad that I'm not the only one...
at beginning I thought it'd be a faulty/bent usb connector, as experienced by others, but since I am redaing of others with the same problem after upgrading, then it cannot be...
have you install;ed the OTA or started from cratch? have you cleaned dalvik cache? (I did with no avail) do you see a pattern in your wakeups? is it every x minutes? is it at random?
as regards me, it happens also when wifi and 3g and sync is off (but 2g on, that is I can only receive calls), so it cannot be anything related to signals...
I have installed BetterBatteryStats and will be sending a couple of resports to the developer trying to see if he can understand what is going on and what wakes up the phone...

I did a completely clean install... Wipe data and cache... Installed the OTA rom available on developers section.
Do tell me if you are able to find a solution.

Yeah, the same thing happens to me. VZW Toro. Stock AOSP Rom. I think it's related to daydream. It didn't start happening until I enabled that functionality.

nope... daydream is off on my phone

It seems to be an issue with the WeChat app:

That's the original bug report. Star it for news and increase its visibility.

I do use WeChat .. let me delete this application and check ...

Deleted WeChat and disabled Day dream ... 7 minutes and phone is not waking up .. seems like the problem is resolved. ..

I don't have wechat and the problem is there so no it's not wechat

I am in the same boat, Thegios.
No Wechat... No Daydream.
I have noticed my screen waking about every 10-15 minutes. It only happens when connected to my Wifi. My N7 does not wake at all. I have wiped the Cache and noticed my "Android System" hogging my battery stats.
I am trying to search what Apps I have settings for something like "sync only on wifi"... from there I should be able to find what is turning the screen on. I have BetterBattery Stats installed, and am trying to dig a little deeper there as well.

cant b wifi, , mine wakes up also when wifi is off and 3g is off and sync is off
I have tried with bbs as well but found notjing wrong

i've read all the reports of bugs, and the people with issues seem to have flashed the stock AOSP rom.. i dont have any of the issues described and the way i installed 4.2 was first flashing the takju 4.1.2 with nexus toolkit and then i got the 4.2 OTA from "about phone"->update.. oh and i have daydream activated.

For those of you with high android system usage, are you downloading music from Google pay music for offline usage? I did and I got this sudden increase. this has never happened to my phone before. Maybe Google play music needs update?

My problem is resolved by removing WeChat and daydream disabled...waited for like an hour and confirmed about the problem solution that worked for me.
You can try disabling that sleep mode apps in Apps settings.

Your problem may have been resolved but wechat and daydream is not the solution to this as many of us aren't using either and still having this issue. I think I'm going back to bone stock 4.1.2 and going to let the OTA upgrade me to 4.2 and see what happens.
wechat is NOT the solution people, as the Google Code page suggest this is a sync issue that could be caused by a number of apps.

Sorry to report this but my phone has been bone stock since I bought it, got the 4.2 OTA, not using wechat or daydream and I still have this issue.

"OK Google" detection from any screen kills the alarm

Just in case someone else runs into this issue.
My alarm (default app) would get snoozed immideately after going off, thus becoming useless.
I have discovered that if I disable the "OK Google" detection from any screen option, the alarm functions fine.
Hope it helps someone not to miss any important appointments.

The ok google from any screen feature also kills the video camera. You get a "can not record while on a call" warning.

Glad I happened to see this post ... For the past week I've been trying to figure out what was automatically dismissing my alarm ... Uninstalled and reinstalled so many apps and xposed modules and never figured it out. Thanks!

I wonder if the bug has to be submitted to Google or LG?

Running in to a similar issue. But instead of the alarm snoozing. I get a pop up message stating "Alarm/Clock has stopped working" and then a flashing notification light. The problem started just this week. I uninstalled the latest Google update and also turned off OK Google" detection from any screen, but that doesn't seem to have had any impact. Odd that I've had no problems with Google Now up until this past Tuesday.

I was unable to replicate your issue. I only get the "Snoozed" notification.
However, I moved to Timely alarm app since and it works just fine.

Thank you for the response. I was hoping I'd be able to figure out what's the issue is and continue to use the stock app. But looks like I'll have look into a third-party app.

The recent Google Search update seems to have fixed my issue.

New update - 4BQA4

So I got this update today and of course the "learn more" link just pointed to the 4BQA2 update, which was just the first Nougat release, which I already had.
Anyone know anything about this one? It still says Android version 7.0, and the security patch level is 2/1/17. The kernel is 3.18.31 and is dated March 13th. The full build number is NRD90M.G930VVRU4BQA4

I just got it also, claims to improve wifi. My wife and I were just discussing that the GPS has been a bit laggy lately, maybe this will help that, too.

Yep just Wi-Fi fixes. Nothing to improve battery. Fail. still 7.0.0

Got it the other day as well

So far, no issues with the latest update. Still wish they'd fix the "switch keyboards" issue. Really annoying to go into the manage keyboards section and turn off all the other keyboards and leave the one on that you want to switch to. Otherwise, really happy with this. I got 20 hours on one charge and had about 27% left in battery. This was after playing games, reading email, reading news, surfing the web, texting and phone calls. I do have it on the mid-power saving mode, and I use the App Power Monitor that currently has about 89 apps flagged to be put to sleep when they're in the background. That really helps and is a built-in Greenify in Nougat. Really nice.

Can someone help? I just got the update to QA4,decided to go thru with the verizon wireless assistance programme via usb cable,now phone stuck on verizon screen bootloop. Any suggestions to save the day?
Update : safe mode doesnt boot up,either.

Can anyone confirm if this update fixes the Samsung calendar app from keeping the screen on when a reminder or calendar event pops up while the screen is off? This was introduced for me with the original nougat update.

Is the behavior you see?
Set screen timeout for 15 seconds. Set up a meeting in google calendar with starting in 7 minutes and reminder 5 minutes before meeting. Then wait for reminder on lock screen to pop up, don't touch anything and let screen timeout. See if screen will get activated again and go off after 2nd screen timeout.
If you get the same behavior, please report. I think there is something wrong with this as if you had a meeting reminder and the phone in you pocket, the phone battery will drain fast and phone gets hot of course.

The behavior you described is similar except that the screen turns on for the initial reminder, then it times out and comes on again, times out and then turns on again and this is an endless cycle until I dismiss the reminder. I thought factory reset would fix it... But nope.

Question [RESOLVED] New P6P having odd issues already - Alarm and Google app

Brand new phone from Google less then a week old. It came with November .36 update. Havnet unlocked or rooted yet. Only installed a few apps.
Issue 1: Alarm keeps getting set to whatever it wants whenever it wants.....if I tap the phone to see the screen, more often than not, there will be an Alarm set for 5-10 minutes into the future. However, I did NOT set any alarms. AND, the alarm never actually rings. If I go back, the Alarm will be for 5-10 minutes into the future.....and this just keeps happening.
Issue 2: This just started yesterday, the Google App is coming up empty of information, cant seem to get it back....

That sounds familiar. I haven't had the issue but I know others have reported something similar with a simple fix. Might want to use the search box limited to the P6P section only for "alarm" and you should find the posts about it.

Thanks for that, will search a bit for Alarm. And yes, have rebooted, didnt help. Havent wiped cache yet, but probably give that a try too! Thx!!!

Ok, Found a post saying Tasker was the cause.....so gonna play with the Tasker settings but I had that setting to Never so should be working......

Ok, now found my error on the Google app.......I tweaked the setting off called "Discover" and thats what makes it all disappear. Seems to me that if you have that turned off then whats the point of the Google app?!?! Anyways, my own error.....
