Because with a new phone might come better reception as well. Even though no network is really running true 4g coverage yet. These old Dincs are outdated
I agree with the rest. I love my dinc2, but at the end of the day it is getting more and more noticable that it is slowing down and becoming laggier with each new rom flash. Its just old. I'm going to keep mine as long as it lasts or until some great nexus (with 4G) comes out.

Semi off topic, but why do you say no network is running true 4g? You don't consider Verizon LTE to be 4g? Just curious.

Some networks claim to be 4G and all that, but their "advanced network" doesnt go coast to coast and still in spots you only get 3g coverage, Like here in Sacramento there are places my old Dinc2 is faster than "4G" phones on Verizons LTE. Also Some run just a boosted 3G network slap the 4G sticker on it and charge more and cut out our awesome unlimited plans in the pursuit of more money.

I don't think I've checked on my S3, but on my Inc2 I got 1x at my house. I know I can get LTE on my S3, but only if I'm on the second level in just the right corner.
To the OP, honestly, why get another Inc2? Even if you don't have 4G coverage in your area right now, Verizon is aiming to almost fully shadow their current 3G map with their LTE network by the end of the year. Now, knowing Verizon, that probably won't actually happen. But even if they get 75% of their 3G area covered with 4G as well, I see no valid reason to limit yourself with a 3G-only device.
And beyond that, the Inc2 is now an old device, relatively speaking. It's a single-core processor that even if overclocked and running smooth as silk, still has nowhere near the processor of more modern devices.

Pretty much what he said you can try to do a speed test and see what you get but pretty much you can look for better service for better speeds

You can also try setting up a proxy.
Yes, Sprints 3G & 4G speeds have been circling the drain for almost a year now. Tower to device speeds are bad; tower through device to laptop speeds are terrible.
If you have Easytether you're in luck. Back it up in triplicate. Don't allow automatic updates. Any updates will either remove it or render it unusable. ET is no longer available for Sprint 4G devices. If you can find a copy, simply side load it.
For Wireless Tether, setting up a proxy is definitely the way to go. Filter Proxy, available free in Market, will do the trick. There is a quick set-up guide somewhere here at XDA. While not as fast as EasyTether, the Wireless Tether with Filter Proxy isn't too bad.
I had this problem their are three things I did to fix it they are all easy 1. Call sprint and tell them you are haveing trouble makeing and receiving calls, bad data speeds blah blah blah (their will be an option somewhere in their voicemail that basically says that.) They will reset your data which will make everything faster. They will make you update your phones radios and etc. Cancel those and do it yourself (I just reflashed a rom I knew had them all included) 2. If you haven't already v6 supercharge and 3g optimize (they are both posted on xda) 3. Overlock the heck out of it whenever you run tether.
Ps. I don't think v6 will make it faster but it will make your phone faster so it might help a lil. Also I have never tried this but I know you can make your phone default to verizon 4g lte this might help verizon has better service where you live

Haha you have no idea what you are talking about. Again, Verizon's 4g is LTE based, Sprint's is Wimax. Two COMPLETELY different networks. The Evo does NOT have an LTE radio, therefore you will NEVER be able to connect to verizon's 4g. Yes, the Thunderbolt and Evo are similar, except for the fact that the Thunderbolt has a 4g LTE radio and not a Wimax radio.
And no, Verizon's 4g is not "basically 3g". My friends with Verizon phones can pull 15mbps down all day long.

I just switched from Sprint 3G to Verizon 4G LTE. I was really hoping for a big improvement. I "kinda" got what I wanted except in the one place I am at the most....work. I spend 9-12 hours a day at work in a factory and the Verizon signal just barley makes it where I sit all day. I basically don't get 4G unless I go outside. Sprint was killing me with 20Kbps download speed and I got tired of it. Now I may be stuck in the same with Verizon. On the bright side Verizon does work very well outside of my work, unlike Sprint.

because of the frequency, LTE is worse inside buildings if i remember correctly.
the good news, your 3g is faster than sprint by a long shot
It's the nature of the beast. In many factories, you're going to run into quite a few things that are going to impair RF transmissions. Some frequency bands may propagate better than others, but you need to bear in mind that it's already a suboptimal environment.

I don't know much either, but I doubt they would do anything about it unless there's a profit involved

Bite your tongue!
Being at work.....doesn't that mean you should not be using your phone for personal use? I know everybody does it but too many people abuse the time clock.....
that being said, maybe you should not be bummed that your phone doesn't work at crazy speeds, this way you can be great full for the job you keep in this tough economy.

You would probably get a much better signal with the RAZR. I was getting 2 bar of 4G LTE in my basement, where my Galaxy Nexus could barely keep a 3G signal. Unfortunately the radios on the Galaxy Nexus suck, so that may have something to do with it.

IMO, Sprint is not the best carrier for reception in all areas, but they are one of the least expensive considering they still have an unlimited plan. You could change the PRL to roam on other carrier's towers, but if you use too much data you can have your contract cancelled I hear.

Yes, and to get around that $10 fee, it is now called data fee instead of 4G fee. I heard that when they were calling it the 4g fee in areas that did not have 4g there was a class action law suit brewing.
My phone gets similar reception to wife's HTC and friends iPhones on Sprint. Visit a Sprint store that also does service and compare to other phones. Maybe yours has a bad radio?
Maybe I'll bring my phone to test my radio. I travel the nation and am always in a major city (San Francisco, New York, Chicago, etc). As soon as I walk into a building, my reception goes to pretty much zero.
Sounds a bit extreme. Only time I notice reception that bad is walking into one of the walmarts here that must block cell service. I live in a fairly crappy service area too. 97504 if you want to take a look for yourself

Well that's your problem. Concrete + steel beams tend to block out higher end frequencies like 1ghz+ freq's like our 1900mhz cdma & 2.5ghz wimax. No solution to that until you get LTE 800 and CDMA-1x advanced @ 800mgz
I've had 5 phones with Sprint in Minneapolis. My E4GT has the weakest signal of any of them.
Speeds in my area at least seems to be better. 3g speeds/reception at my job went from unusable to being able to stream netflix/youtube vids easily. But yea the E4GT like others have said doesn't have the best built-in radio.

I have a feeling Clearwire LTE will arrive in Medford, as clear does operate the 2.5/2.6ghz (not sure which) but only that it was for pre-wimax devices and never got around to updated the towers to the newer wimax system due to money issues, but, at least once clearwire starts updating to LTE towers, just maybe they will remember this cities.

have you checked the coverage map on t-mobiles website? Also, I'll throw in the link that will show you the best modem to use in your area on your S3, if you're into flashing. The only problems with this phone ( and all recent samsung products is in past 5 years), were wifi issues(weak signal and wifi calling error) and the audio quality from the camcorder. Both Issues were resolved with the Jelly bean update though. . The audio playback and recording feature is also pretty top notch now. My only complaint that I could find, is that VOODOO Sound app isn't available for our devices...yet. Its coming though!! The S3 is definitely your best choice! There is supposedly another update coming in december or January to 4.2

Hello,
I'll soon be an T-Mobile user (SGS3).
I've been with Verizon for almost 13 years and have owned 3 HTC phones. Currently have a Incredible 2.
Is there anything I should know about the network?
How's the speed?
I'm lucky if I hit 2.8 down and .8 up (3G).
What about the phone? Is there any quirks?

What's up fellow Driver..the S3 gets great speeds! Depending on location of course. I'm over the road and in most big cities I can get 6-23 mbps dl..in rural towns..I try not to look lol..but it's a good powerful phone and coming from the sensation, mt4g, and the God awful Motorola cliq xt, I'm happy with my first sammy

Yeah it really depends on your location, here in South Texas these are my speeds
Sent from Flip's S3
I'm on the $30/100min/5GB plan, barely went over 500MB in the first month, loving the speed, sometimes spotty here in NYC, better in Brooklyn.

I'm not concerned about wifi, (I'm in A Big-Rig 16 hours A day) I rely on the mobile connection. Thanks though.
What's this VOODOO you speak of?
Thank you for the Modem info!

Roger that!
I'm on A Dedicated route so it'll be pretty consistent.
My Co-Driver Has T-Mo (HTC Sensation) and he has pretty decent signal.

Nice!
If it weren't for the unlimited data (that T-Mo is offering) there's NO WAY I'd switch...
Here's an average months usage:

So I'm in Central Jersey and we have Wimax all around, abysmal 3G speeds most places, and sparse LTE. I was considering getting a Photon 4G or something to use so I could take advantage of the Wimax as the LTE rollout isn't going to be completed until much later in the year. I was just wondering if others do this. Is the increase in data speeds worth it? The photon is about $100 too.
Also, how's the LTE rollout in your location? I use S4GRU to figure out LTE rollouts btw. Anywho. :fingers-crossed:
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am), but can't OP go to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Network Mode and switch LTE/CDMA to just CDMA?
Also, the LTE rollout here in Houston, TX, started near the end of '12. Initially, I was super stoked because I regularly received speeds upwards of 28 Mbps, but that excitement has waned as I have yet to reach speeds anywhere close to that since the holidays. Currently, speeds average out at 2.30 Mbps and the highest I've seen it since is 7.88 Mbps. I can't really complain as I'm able to listen to Google Play Music and YouTube playlists without any interruptions on my hour long drive home from work.

That's correct, but I don't think that's what his concern is. If I understand, he wants the higher speeds and since his LTE coverage is bare, he was considering the Photon so he could tap into WiMax while out and about.

That's the same as not having LTE coverage. There's no benefit to it.
To the OP. The Photon has some of the best signal reception and "outdated" specs/OS aside it, is still the most advanced phone Sprint has ever sold. It would serve your needs very well.

You sir, are correct. The LG OG does not support Wimax.

Ahh, okay, I see. I mistakenly thought that CDMA and WiMax were the same thing. I'll keep quiet now. :silly:
Yeah. If I were to buy a phone, I'd want a relatively cheap one. Like, 50~75 dollars cheap haha. Used of course ! I've looked at other phones too, just not sure which is best either.
The nice thing about the Photon is if you use the Imperium or peetr's hybrid ROM's you still retain Webtop/Ubuntop. It also supports usb host so can use it as a Roku/Media Center type box when you switch back to the LGOG. I still use mine but as a media box w/ an external drive.
I came from having a Photon and it is probably still my favorite phone to date, and will the amazing works the devs did, on top of it being a nearly indestructible phone, it is definitely still a great option. If only unlocking it didn't break the WiMax...

I have an old photon i need to sell, but it's 2.3.5, so no unlocked boatloader.
Can root just fine, but stuck on ginger bread.

PM an offer. I'm gonna think about it for a week or so lol. I would probably prefer at least ICS features But there's no guarentee I'll find one that's unlocked, or unlockable.
Only problem i ever had with my photon (besides bootloader) was the volume rocker. Other than that it's a rock solid phone. No dropped calls and wimax was pretty fast here in st Louis

I was in central nj and never had wimax on my photon that was over a year ago. Joker who is making the OGs life better make the photon one underrated kick ass device.

In Killeen Texas I don't know what happen but my 3G is much faster and my phone connects to 4G sometimes. It isn't a strong 4G signal but still.

My girlfriends S3 would pull in an LTE signal in town today but my phone didn't show 4G but was very fast and showed an IP address in 4G information.

I get great 4g speeds here a screenshot from earlier today and from a few minutes ago. I'm happy with the coverage in my area.
