I have a n7105T (the Telstra telecom 4G model)
They have done something to limit the touchwiz home screen, so that I cant add, subtract or alter the Dock icons at all
I cant add more or take any away..
I was wondering if there is a config file somewhere I can edit to change the dock Icons?
It would be better If I could add folders but just changing which icons I have there would be enough.
also I'm not rooted and prefer not to root at this stage.
Things tried:
Long press
Edit
go to app drawer and choose edit
Long press an app in app drawer (this shows the home screen but HIDES the dock!)

There is a shortcut for the home screen. It look like a little house, as I can see it in the icon pack, but where is the actual shortcut to put on my home page? I have looked everywhere in the settings and can't find it. Can someone point me on the right direction please?

OK, so I think you're asking about an icon to take you to your homescreen... Correct?
If so, you long press on a blank spot on a homescreen, select launcher actions, move to default desktop. It won't have the little house icon, but it will do the job.
After you do what jtcarnes says, longpress the new icon, select edit, touch the current image, select ADWThem IconPacks, and the select the house/homeplate icone with the android in it.
Can't seem to find any info on this that is relevant, just some stuff for much older versions and for WP.
I switched out my stock email app with the XFinity app, as it seems to be more reliable on retrieving email. The only problem I have with it is the icon is too big (touches the top and bottom of the launch bar) and the text is too long/doesn't wrap.
I was able to change the icon to a more standard icon via winrar etc, however I can't find a successful way to fix the text issue. Is this even possible?
Attached a pic, app is in lower right:
Well since you have it in the launcher I think the only way to do this would be to edit an .xml file (no idea which one) inside the .apk. You could always put it on the home screen using Launcher Pro, LP lets you customize the name. Probably not what you want to do, but just throwing it out there
Yeah I'm addicted to GTG though
I found several references to changes to strings.xml to allow wrapping etc and possibly change it entirely (not a lot of info there), but it appears to maybe be for an older version or something as the file isn't located in the apk where everyone says it should be.
Thanks though
okay i have searched endlessly both thru here and Google have managed to find a program to do it for you apk edit works great for market apps not so great for system apps tried the way described in the icon thread and that also failed get errors like icon disappears or just doesn't perform its function i.e not making phone calls, opening settings etc... if any one is willing to shed some light on how i can accomplish this please help me

If the only reason you're wanting to change the Icon is for how it appears on your homescreen, then I'd say the easiest way is to use Desktop Visualizer, available in the Market. You can alter/edit/change how the icons are on your homescreen, but the icon will still be the original from within your app drawer, if you use that method. But yea, if it's just for homescreen appearance, that's the easiest way. If that's not what you're after, and you want to change the icon completely, then I beleive you could use 7zip to open up the .apk, find the png for the icon, and replace/alter/edit. I did it that way once, but it was just for a couple of icons, and I was more or less just messing around with things. But it worked fine. Then I learned of Desktop Visualizer and said forget about it.
Also, if you're using a rom that supports easy theming - CM7 with the theme chooser, or MIUI with the theme manager - you could build a quick theme with all of the icons you want to change. I did this with the Aelous HD theme for MIUI by adding the icons that weren't already themed. You put the icons in the "icons" folder with the format packagename.png - it usually looks something like com.something.something.png. I'm sure there's a similar way with CM7 themes.
Easy Way
I use ADW EX. It lets you easily change any app icon. It's a paid app but is really worth it for all the extras. Be aware though, that if you're using a sense rom, ADW will also replace your rosie. Another cool thing about ADW is that there are a ton of icon packs available or you can just dowload pngs from the web and use those.
I'm not 100% sure but I think Launcher Pro also lets you change icons in a similar way.
Well I use go launcher which does basically everything the other launchers do but I want to change the app drawer icons themselves o tried the 7zip method but no avail either the app icon completely disappears or it won't open at all. I.e. browser and system.changing the phone.apk makes the my phone go into FC mania.any other way or is there something I'm missing or just not doing right

The way I do it may seem like the hard way but this is what I do!
I use a program called App Manager 4.9 (google it or search for it on here)
I extract the apk I want to MOD from my EVO using root explorer or if you're on windows and you got ADB working properly, I use the program called DroidExplorer
Anyways, assuming that you got App Manager 4.9 up and running....I place the .apk into the modding folder...bring up App Manager 4.9 and hit 22...select my project, hit 9 for decompile....once that's done, I go into the project folder and find the folder drawable-hdpi....sometimes is called drawable-hdpi-v4 depending on what rom you're using.....I then find the icon I want to change...change it!....and then run up app manager again, press 22...select my project....then hit 11 for compile...once that's done....I either use droidexplorer once again and place it in the correct folder it came from or connect the device to the computer, open up usb storage and place it in a folder...use root explorer to then move it to the correct folder....reboot the device once everything is said and done, and BOOM!...is done!!
Like I said, this is too much work for some people BUT I rather do it this way because I know is done right and I don't have to settle for temporary half ass apps trying do it!

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Young GT-S6312 Dual sim, rooted, deodexed, working cwm.
I used root explorer and extracted secsettings.apk and opened the folder which I extracted. In that I went to res/drawable-hdpi and replaced ic_system_settings.png wit my own icon. I archived the folder and renamed it to .apk and pushed it to system/app and replaced the original apk. I rebooted my phone and got a boot loop. Next time I extracted systemui.apk and went to folder, opened res/drawable-mdpi and replaced the settings icon whith my own icon. After the phone rebooted there was no change in the icon. I actually wanted to change the settings icon fully like on the home screen, app drawer and once I open settings also. Please suggest a method for doing it thanks in advance.

Mates,
KE2 with OC KDD kernel; TW4.
How do I change the default apps by pressing Contacts or SMS?
I want to use 3rd party Contacts and SMS app; but still want to use TW4...
Open applications menu. Click menu button and choose edit. For message program change: Drag message icon out into the application area. The drag gosms onto the apps/icons bar. Hope this is clear.

Ahhh; sorry mate; didnt explain clear enough. Got a customized theme; and because of this the icons are according to the theme; but if I change the SMS icon with the Go SMS; then I loose the customized icons.....
But thanx for the tip though :=)
Ahh OK. So to keep the icons the same change the shortcut link different I suppose another option, rather than change the shortcut link, would be to change the icon/shortcut and then change its icon to the your theme.
I have no idea which is easier and how to do it unfortunately so just putting it out there in case it helps. I guess for both these things you may need to root your phone and get a more powerful file browser.
Sense 4.0 Launcher Pro Theme
Hey everyone!
AdA here with the promised Sense 4.0 Launcher Pro layout.
*Features*
-authentic replica Sense 4.0 clock (Minus flip animation)
-HTC Icon set
-HTC Sense 4.0 Wallpaper
-(For those with Launcher pro plus) Dark Transparent sense look alike widgets
-Scrollable dockbar
And the best part is it works with any rom.
Rooted or unrooted? Doesnt matter!
This is in no way a Sense "port" just a themed version of Launcher pro!!! enough said.
Lets get down to business.
(1) First off download all 6 of these files to the root of your SD card.
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/345437/launcherpro_backup.zip
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/345438/Black_Sensus_4_Clock_Gnex.apk
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/345441/HTC_HD_icons.zip
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/345443/scene_wallpaper_htc_default.jpg
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/345450/Sense_4_clock.apk
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/345452/lunapic_133773859928208_2.png
(2) Extract the two Zip files with your choice of file manager program.(Do not change the directory just extract) I use ES File Explorer.
(3) Download Launcher Pro from the market and let it install. (If you want the transparent widgets seen in the pics you have to have Launcher Pro Plus)
(4) Press your HOME or HOUSE button to return to the Home screen. If launcher pro was installed then you should have been prompted to select a launcher when you pressed the home button. Choose Launcher Pro and set it as default.
(5)Now press your MENU button once you are at the HOME screen. (Generally on the far left at the bottom of most phones.) Select Preferences. Scroll to the bottom and select Restore Backup. Click yes or restart when prompted.
Halfway there!!!
(4) Navigate to the Root of your SD card with your file manager and select your choice of white or black Sense 4.0 Clock to install it. (You may have to select the unknown source option if prompted)
(5) Return to homescreen and hold press on the screen and select widgets. Select your Sense 4.0 widget you installed. You will have to resize it once its applied by hold pressing on it and to set up the weather and other settings go into your app drawer and select the Sense 4.0 clock you installed to set it up.
(6) Return to homescreen and hold press and select wallpaper. Choose gallery or whatever you use to select images and select the Sense 4.0 wallpaper I had you download.
(7) Now you are about done, you may have noticed that none of the icons work on the dock bar. There are by default 5 icons to the dockbar. I have three of them in the middle using a 100% TRANSPARENT Icon that you downloaded with the rest of the files (lunapic_133773859928208_2.png now located at the ROOT of your SD card)
If you swipe the dockbar to the left you will see five grey plus signs. That is for your second page of icons if you so choose to set multiple pages up.
Go back to the first page of icons.
The first icon on your RIGHT (the message bubble) Hold press it.
It will bring up "Edit Dock shortcut"
This is where you are free to customize what you want where on your dock bar.
Select change shortcut
select applications
and select what app you want to go there I had messaging by default but this is your choice.
Then choose custom icon
It should take you into your defualt gallery app. Locate the Sense Icons I had you download and choose the corresponding icon with the app you chose.
Done. That is the process to set up your shortcuts on the dockbar.
(8) The phone button in the middle has 3 seperate 100% transparent icons. Hold press on each one and select the phone app as the shortcut application. When it asks you to select an icon go back to CUSTOM ICON and find the lunapic_133773859928208_2.png (it comes up as a black blank square on my E4GT in the Gallery) select it and it will make the icon disappear but you can still select the phone.
I used the transparent icons as an overlay over the Dock Background to make the dock theme work right and look good.
That should be about it.
Play with it, Tweak it, Redistribute it, Whatever... just enjoy it.
and dont forget to say thanks if you like it!!!
Enjoy,
Ada

That's not Sense 4 though. At least not by the screenshots in the first post.

It's not intended to be exact. Just a theme for launcher pro that will give you the feeling of sense without the ram usage that follows.
Keep it crispy, :highfive:
