I just acquired both of these phones at the same time. I need to keep one and pass one on. I plan to put some sort of simple stable ROM onto it, for the purpose of large screen browsing, and solid stable call/sms/gmail performance. I have gotten over gaming, and still upgraded from a Galaxy Nexus whose battery life and power inefficient screen didn't cut it, as I need a tablet-like phone for mobile work/browsing.
The T999 is T-Mobile and comes stock with T-Mobile bloat. The T999V came from WIND Mobile, and doesn't have this bloat.
Serial numbers:
T999: R21C83WD51T 12.08
T999V: R21C701WWZM 12.07
Apart from the manufacturing date, do these serials tell us anything?
Are any of the two hardware-different in regards to flashing the ROMS found in this section? I understand the radios are different and are not interchangeable. Any reported problems with one and not the other? Quirks to expect? Power efficiency? Battery life?
Input much appreciated. Thanks for being here XDA
The T999V MIGHT have LTE.
I may be wrong.

XDA is a great source of information for all phones. In the past there were sometimes seperate forums for different versions of the same phone. I understand they are all Nexus phones however the issues for Verizon Nexus owners don't necessarily occur with people using a European Nexus and vice versa. There are many things in common but I really wish there had been a Verizon Nexus forum as welll. I should have posted this 6 months ago.
I'd love to be able to go to the Verizon thread and instantly see when there was information about firmware updates, fixes for mic issues, fixes for radio issues, tweaks specific to the Verizon Nexus...
Maybe if enough of you requested it it might happen... I know on the sgs2 forum they split the development sub into two but that was because a couple of devs who were also moderators liked to put themselves on a pedestal and look down from above

It'd be a plus for sure but the search works pretty well on this forum. Ultimately I can live without a separate forum.
I think it would be a great sub forum within Galaxy Nexus forum, IF it actually contained useful information. Lots of trolls and rumor mills out there with nothing but speculation. If it were created and filled with garbage, than there is no point.

Its not needed for General.
And considering there are no firmware updates, radio fixes, mic fixes, or Verizon specific tweaks, it would be a dead one if it did exist.
PS- Mic problem doesn't appear to be on the phone end.
I like'r the way it is now. :good:
As long as the VZW development is separate, I'm fine.
I like the general meeting ground for all us GNex owners.

All that matters is separate development forums. There's way too much overlap in the general discussion between device that it'd be a waste to separate them and have a ton of duplicate posts.
People with CDMA phones would just post everything in their forum and GSM would do the same. We'd then have to move/merge threads constantly instead of just allowing the few carrier-specific threads to float around in the same forum.

I agree that a separate forum would be much worse than what exists today, but that doesn't mean there is no room for improvement. I got my Gnex on July 3, so I'm relatively new, and have been doing a A LOT of reading. The biggest problem I see with regard to having a common forum for general discussion is that more often than not, people don't indicate whether they're referring to the CDMA model or the GSM model. Sometimes this can be gleaned from the discussion if there's mention of LTE or HSPA or possibly a carrier, but it's rarely stated clearly.

Yeah it is pretty frustrating whey there is a thread about radio signal issues and someone chimes in they don't have that problem - OK - are you on Verizon? No, I'm on a GSM nexus - than that isn't an apples to apples comparison.

My Epics still do what I need, but I have terrible reception in my new place and need to switch providers. I might as well lower the monthly bill at the same time, so I think PPC would be a good target.
How realistic is this? I'm thinking about paying someone who knows what they're doing to make the switch. Are the cell frequencies compatible enough? Will I get working MMS? Will the voicemails suck? Can I still flash ROMs after the switch? Is there anything I should know?
Thanks for any advice.

Now that the S IV is supposedly goign to ship in April with a working Bluetooth 4 (BLE) stack, will it be possible to get that ported to the Note II?
The presentation looked like most of the "features" were software, if that's the case i'd think someone will get the good bits and make them available to us, no?
I want to know how much software wise is going to come to the Note 2 with the 4.2 update. It is still current hardware on the Note side until September after all. I'll be upset if they take features out.

I just got my SGS3 today and have not yet attempted to root. I always take a few days to read up and try to learn what I am doing...to minimize mistakes ya know.
One thing I can not find any info on is the version codes that are placed in the rom titles. Such as ds2pr and kt747 and d2mtr and such. I don't know what they mean so I am not sure if it affects my phone in a negative or positive way. If someone can explain this I would be grateful.

If you have the sprint GS3 you have the d2spr.
Kt747 is a custom kernel. You'll also see TW which is touch wiz and AOSP which is android open source project.
GS3 Sprint LTE - The People's ROM with plenty of Rompnit - KT747 kernel and TK Mod with special sauce - CrossBreeder super butter - Greenify sleeping pills - Nova Prime evangelist - sent from xda premium

Thanks guys, the info was very helpful. I better understand the post tags now.
@kennyglass123, sorry about posting in the wrong section, I know better, it won't happen again. =)
Hello everyone, so I have a question I need to ask since made a big mistake and left T-Mobile before they switched over to what they are now… I opened a Sprint contract with a GS4, traded it for an IPhone 5 then traded again for a Note 2…. Question, I hate the Note 2 because of it still on 4.1.2 for past months and even though there is Rom support… Data issues are Horrible (I don’t mean Sprint Service in general)… So, I’m going to go on Craigslist to get a used Sprint device until availability of Nexus 5, should I sell the Note 2 for a Galaxy S4 or HTC One to use on Sprint...
One more question would the Note 2 get Kit Kat Rom Support?
Sounds to me like you just need do some device/brand homework to figure out what features you're looking for and appeal to you.
BTW...Sprint will begin rolling out android updates starting 11/20, and next time try searching through Q&A it addresses all of these questions.
