Hello,
I would like to put 4.1.x on my daughters Kindle fire. Her sister has a Samsung Tab 2 an they like that one better. I'm starting to do my research on the hack, but im a little confused on the versions, or maybe just the names.
Here is what I think they are:
Fire Gen 1
Fire Gen 2 (same device, more ram, CPU and updated factory OS version)
Fire HD
I think she has a Gen2, but I wont know for sure until she brings it back tomorrow. (she with her mother this weekend) If someone could tell me how to figure out exactly what she has that would be great! Also, if you can point to me the right direction to root+JellyBean that would be super!
Hey, I found the KF2 FAQ! It answered most of my questions. I'm almost sure (based on date of purchase) its a KF2. I will know for sure tomorrow. It looks like my I'm going to just have to root and install google play. That should get me most of what she wants it to do.
I think her mom did get it on "sale so maybe just maybe, its a gen 1. We will see...

I'm curious as well. Anyone get XBMC working with the KF (any version ROM)? I've tried it on the SGT7 CM10 and CM10.1 and while XBMC loads and operates smoothly, video playback is very choppy.
Do I need to manually whitelist it in HWA somehow?
okay so I just found out last night that "Flash player will no longer be useable on Android 4.1 and higher devices" and I don't know what to do. I have JellyBean Android 4.2 on my Amazon Kindle fire and I installed it about 4-5 days ago when flash was still working on android devices and now I can't even watch youtube videos. I have tried installing/updating flash player on the kindle but its just not doing anything. I tried on firefox android broswer and Dolphin Beta browser which is suppose to support flash and html5 but I get the same excuse when trying to enable flash on the browser, that flash will no longer be supported on android 4.1 devices and higher.
Can anyone suggest or direct me in the right direction, what should I do to my amazon kindle fire to make flash player work, downgrade to jellybean android 4.0? any help will be appreciated, thank you for reading and helping and I hope you had a great christmas.
Try this flash apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35895701
If you absolutely need flash support, you might have to go back to ICS

Hi,
I am new to Kindle. Had a Viewsonic gTablet and put on custom ROM before. But the initial read seem to suggest that the process is quite different.
Here is I can gather after the some initial reads.
1. Root the device. How to root kindle fire any version (including 8.4.6)
2. Install the 2nd boot loader. Introducing: Kindle Fire 2nd-bootloader + TWRP 2.6.3.0 for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9
3. Install a Jelly Bean ROM. Which one is the latest stable one?
Please let me know if my understanding is correct. Thanks

Yeah. I would like to build the latest kernel with the latest android sources myself.
Ok so I'm new to kindles but not to rooting I have a kindle fire 2 2012 version according to my google search which said if serial number begins with d026 that's the version I have. 10.4.5. Is my current software version. My questions are is it root able at this point.
how do I go about rooting it? And is there a stable kit kat rom? I don't mind nightlies but would prefer a stable rom jelly bean is good also. Long story short how can I rot and install a rom.
