Ok so I have a AT&T Galaxy note and I want to root it so I can get faster speeds. I have T-mobile service... Can I still root using AT&T stuff even though I have T-Mobile? It is also unlocked. Can someone guide me on what to do. I know how to do it just want to make sure Im doing the right thing though.
Thanks in advance
Herr is the easiest way to root without tripping you counter. Find the latest for your provider then flash it using Odin. Then you decide from there if you wanna flash any custom rom after.

Whoah! First off dont send the guy off to root his phone first thing! He doesnt have clue!
First off you can NOT flash tmobile roms onto att phone or wind mobile on rogers etc.
Secondly root does not give you faster speeds!
Rooting is great but do your self a favor and read first or your gonna end up like this guy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229965
I guess he finally realized he had flashed the wrong rom...amoung other things.
:banghead:
For now im telling ya, read up before you use odin and go flash crazy or youll be crying that kies ain't working. (When youre doing it wrong it never does)
Yes you can get your note2 to work on tmobile but dontvexpectvit to work like a note2 from tmobile.
My advice if your on tmo, sell it and by the tmo n2.
Rooting is great but trust me if it made your phone faster the phone companies would not be happy.
Now... there are tricks to TRY to get fastest speeds and you do need root for this.
But you need to apply these hacks in addition to rooting.
Check out the stickies and also click the thread I linked its got a link to a gn2
Its a great tool not just for noobs
Edit: Nm here ya go

Android is like carpentry. ..you know ...measure twice cut once?
Read twice flash once...or twice....or
You get the idea.

Well, just for clarification, rooting can make your phone faster. It can make your phone faster by removing unnecessary apps that could be running in the background. It also allows you to tweak settings and config files, though not recommended for a newbie. You may also use custom roms that could provide serious performance improvements.
So it is inaccurate to say rooting cannot increase the speed of your device. There have even been some cases of gaining networking speed improvements by changing settings in the build.prop file on some AT&T devices.
Rooting is the typical gateway to these other options.

Did you read mine? You cant do any of the things to increase your devices performance without root. So, this means rooting is part of the process. This also means rooting is part of speeding up your device. We can play tit for tat and mince words all day. The point is the original post wanting root for the purpose od speeding up a device is valid.

seconded. this entire forum is basically about rooting and what it does/what you can do. you shouldnt have any trouble figuring it out
Thirded.
If you don't know what it is, you haven't read enough.
If after reading you don't know what it is, you still haven't read enough.
If after reading more, you still don't know what it is, you probably have some reading comprehension issues, but also search and read some more.
Starting a new post as your FIRST post on XDA asking people to explain to you what it is, UGH.
shouldn't this be in General?...But for starters, I would recommend beginning at the one-click root forum, and whatever you do, don't be scared to brick your phone, I have yet to brick mine and I am constantly flashing my phone! Good luck!
Come on guys. Really? Is this the kind of community we want to be? Everyone's gotta start somewhere. Just suggest reading up first, and point him to where he's gotta go. Remember, there was a point where you didn't know what rooting was either.
Well since no one wants to be nice...
Rooting is basically giving you root access to the phones operating system. The reason for doing this is to allow you to customize and optimize your phone for your specific needs. The two biggest reasons for rooting are the ability to remove bloatware and for flashing custom roms/kernels. Rooting also gives you access to programs in the market that require superuser permissions (root).
The difference between an unrooted epic 4g and a rooted one, unrooted is a handicaped device that is little more than a fancy toy that can browse the web and make phone calls. A rooted one is really what ever you want it to be. A cool toy or an amazing tool or both.

Thank you, holy crap so many evil people in the world why are slipping into XDA? Just answer the question, did we not all start at 1 post?
To add to that, Rooting gives you Access to tether your internet connection from your epic to a laptop wirelessly, This is the only reason i'd root the Epic.

The odin3 method is honestly very simple. You literally can root your phone in less than 3 minutes with the click of a button. I've used terminal emulator and adb methods of rooting and I can say that the only other easier method other than odin3 that I've used was z4. You can do it. Just have faith and confidence. Terminal emulator is much more harder than using odin3.

One of the great things about XDA is you dont have to be all that tech saavy and there are plenty of people to help with questions.
However, one should make an honest attempt to familiarize themselves with all of the tools available.
You have nothing to lose and you just might learn a lot from the experience. Then it might be your turn to help someone else

Do some searching for must have root apps. Once you are feeling more adventurous try out some themes, Kernals, roms. Make sure you read thoroughly before flashing things and definitely back up your imei and learn how to unbrick your phone. having this knowledge will save you a lot of problems.
Also make sure to search and do research before asking questions in threads. People will flame you a lot if you don't search first

Obviously google is your friend, but as far as ROMs go, make sure to read the forums and don't flash anything without making sure it will work on your specific device, that is very important.
Most ROMs will take care of the debloating, deodexing, optimizing for you. From there you can move on to kernels for further fun like overclocking and undervolting. As far as removing built in ATT apps... You can try removing them with a file explorer, but thats really no fun to do at all, and requires far too much work, and doesnt do all the extra background work... Easiest option is finding a debloated ROM that has them all removed.
So, I flashed it with the wrong ROM, turned my phone to a hard brick. had to send it out to mobiletechvideos to get it fix. I got my phone back yesterday, working again. thanks to MobileTechVideos. well worth the $80. Now I don't know if I should root it again.

Just read and read and read some more. As long as you follow all the guides step by step and are making sure everything you do is meant for YOUR device, you won't end up bricking your phone. In fact, you'll be pleased with the results. Guaranteed. But remember, every instructional thread you read has a warning. According to samsung if u flash a custom binary u have voided ur warranty. New devices like in our case the S3, Even S2 has a binary counter which keeps counts how many times have u flash ur device with a custom Rom,but even with this counter installed there's always a work around to reset this counter and "cash in" in our warranties. Hi I am new here and I would like to root my device to make it my own and get rid of all the apps that came with it, but I have a few questions.
1, Once I am rooted which rom is the best for my AT&T GN2?
2, Will I still be able to update my GN2?
3, What happens if I messed up during the rooting process?
4, And how often do I need to change roms?
5, Is rooting the way to go?
I am going to be dead honest here, I am a girl and some of the steps of rooting I dont quite understand, if someone can help me explain things I will be so happy.

1. Try each rom out and find out what YOU like. I personally use CleanRom 4.0.5 with no problems.
2. Why update when custom roms are better than stock roms?
3. If you mess up thats on you. But its not to hard root. I rooted and installed a custom rom before leaving the att store.
4. If you find a rom that you like you will most likely flash a new rim once its updated.
5. Yes rooting has many advantages. Ex. Wifi tethering, removing bloatware, custom roms, etc.....

No. You can be rooted using the "stock" rom you are using now out of the box. You will have the ability to delete apps using the app mentioned before.
If and when you do decide to install new roms. You will have to install a recovery. Which that exynos abuse apk does not include.
A recovery is a whole other thing.
For recovery I use twrp.

No, you can stay stock, but you're gonna want to flash something because you know it's better. Clean rom is the way to go.

I'll be honest, this smells of a "phone won't turn on" thread in the near future. You're not ready to root your phone and go playing around in recovery. You might be ready to root once you'd studied up on exanose abuse and the rooting concept in general. But right now I would hold off if I were you. TBO the Gn2 runs so well out of the box that you're almost there anyway. Make sure you are confident that you will know how to do each step BEFORE you attempt to root, and are sure you have another web-enabled device so that you can come here for questions while your Gn2 is down.
Let's us know what you decide...
