I guess after a year I finally need a car dock for my phone. I don't care about the pogo pins. I just want something to hook the phone in so it quits flying around my truck. Ant recommendations?
Thanks
Billd

I guess I should add that I have the slim doitz case that I don't want to remove to put into the dock

If you just want your phone to stay in one place then get the cheapest universal phone holder that will satisfy your needs. I've got something like this with about 2.5 euros 2 years ago.
If pogo pins or other connectivity doesn't matter, I wouldn't give away tens of euros/dollars for a simple dock.

Anyone try it yet? As soon as I can get my hands on an LTE model I will attempt it.
The battery lid is super thin, so I don't think any major mod will be needed.
Do other phones work with the palm touchstone?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
It's a modification, any phone can, kind of.
Really, how?
I already have a touchstone charger for my Touchpad, would be brilliant if I could use that...
I would love to know this also

Sweet. I don't know if I'm brave enough to do this. I guess you also need a Palm Charger from there on out which is a trade off.
Induction Charging or USB Charger Whore
I travel a lot and have lost my charger on several occasion
How about trying to get the Touchpad and the nexus talking?
Is that possible- what technology is the Touchpad using for its wireless charging etc? Its not NFC is it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=862879
I'm hoping I won't have to physically cut the battery lid
Here is another example of this hack. The Droid Charge is designed with inductive charging contacts though.

Touchstone mods have been done successfully on a pile of phones, and it's a simple mod. With the thickness of the GN's battery door, I would guess this will be pretty easy. Used the touchstone on my Evo and G2x and it was great. I'd be willing to, but after spending $700+ it's gonna take me at least a month or two to work up the gall to do it.
I have 4 touchstones at home and work, and inductive charging is something you just can't live without when you've had it before
Won't it void the warranty though lol...

Couldn't it damage the NFC chip as it's on the battery? I have no idea what I'm talking about it's just a thought I had when I saw this.
Touchstone modding is super easy, very nice guide found here
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...us-mod-palm-touchstone-without-soldering.html
Combine this with Tasker to activate the clock app when charging and it's basically like Exhibition Mode in webOS
If you are using a case like the Otterbox, it should be possible to build a Touchstone mod without opening the phone. I'm thinking about putting the loop between the Nexus and the case and somehow attaching the wires to the docking pins on the right side. Should be straightforward.
They are now listed available to order and will ship in three days, 1/23.

http://www.mycellworld.com/Samsung-OEM-Vehicle-Navigation-Mount-P182792874-P93056.htm
They both only list compatibility with the i515 so I wonder if they will work all the same with the i9250.
The car dock (second link) is the same one that's been on Samsung's website for a while:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECS-K1F8BEGSTA
It DOES NOT have the pins for use on the side of the Nexus.
I'm looking for one that does have the pins so I don't have to unplug everything when I want to take the phone in and out of the dock.
The description for the car dock says you can plug your car charger directly to the mount. I'm so confused. I just want the pins...
Honestly I'd be happy just to use the desktop dock in my car. Double sided Velcro and stick it right to my dash. It's what I do with the car dock anyways (using the disk thing it comes with) and there's no annoying suction cup to worry about when the temperature drops. Plus it's lower profile and much easier to drop the phone in and out of. Especially when the suction doesn't want to play along.
I posted this mainly because I hadn't seen the multimedia dock available yet anywhere else, I just included the car dock link in case someone wanted both.
Seriously? $64.95 for a piece of plastic with USB headphone jacks wired to the prongs. Did Samsung subcontract this out to Monster Cables? Nice to be able to insert/remove phone wihout plugging/unplugging, but pricing is obscene.
Yes I made a thread asking about this about a week ago about a 3 pin charging cradle. Its finally coming out! .....and then I seen the price of the damn thing -.-

That is exactly the same thing I first noticed. As much as I want a dock for my phone there is no way I am going to spend 65 bucks on it plus another 10 dollars or so on shipping the stupid thing to me.
but does the official pogo pin car dock support VZW models?
i don't think it was made for the vzw models.

and why would you say its the old crappy version? just the price? the picture and discrption are of the good one. part number is even different although that could be their internal cataloging number. still no evidence of this being the old verizon model.
as for the price on the desktop dock, i'm assuming it has to do with the internals. has an hdmi output while only physicly connecting to the phone via 3-prong connector. supposedly the car dock sends audio to the mount via bluetooth and the mount is able to give you the aux output line from there. wondering if it is sending data to the home version the same way.
Well I know its no iPhone 4s in terms of volume, but how hard would it be to be for an aftermarket company to make a car cradle that works with pogo connectors? All you have to do is have raised spring loaded prongs so that it would work with a tpu case.

Desktop dock is pretty awesome, but a little too pricey. Nice find
The description of the desk dock looks pretty off. That thing DOES NOT have an HDMI port unless it comes with an extra wire to hook into the micro USB port. Take a look here for all the official dock options which may or may not arrive. http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/02/samsung-galaxy-nexus-docks-and-chargers-get-a-proper-fondling-prongs-put-to-use/#more-54594

Try to find two DV casette cases and make this: http://imgur.com/a/wruWi#0 I'm going to add in Micro USB to HDMI® MHL Adapter soon to the bottom case and boom you've got yourself a media dock for less than $12.
guys did you think about one issue, that power button is at the same side as 3 gold pins ?? so inserted without root it would be pretty useless

I never used the power button on my Nexus S when it was docked.
Looks like they're ready to ship for VZW version!

It should work but I'll let you know for sure when I get it.

I think it's bull**** that they charge an extra 20 bucks for the same dock thats hardwired. I mean YOU hardwire it instead of plugging it in to a cigarette lighter!! It's more effort/work. They should charge more for the cigarette lighter one IMHO. Since thats the case, I will just cut off the lighter plug, splice the wires, and hardwire it that way.
I'm pretty sure the hard wired one includes an adapter box. You can't just cut the cigarette lighter adapter off because you need something to convert 12V to the correct voltage to charge the phone.
What I did was went to Radio Shack, bought a female cigarette lighter receptacle, hard wired THAT under the dash, and plugged the cigarette lighter plug from the dock into that. Works great.

I ordered mine in early Jan and just got conformation from them that it is shipping Monday. I got the hardwired version - I think the hardwired charger is better than the cig lighter version (2 amp vs. ?)
They are spendy but well worth it.

They have that listed as a separate clip. Just use the selector on the main page of their website.
Can someone who gets this test it out with a TPU case?
I ordered the Verizon Galaxy Nexus mount a while ago and just got it yesterday. It fits great, with both the normal and extended battery.

which doesn't have built-in charging.
My wife and I just bought the nexus when we switched to Verizon. We both have an extra battery with a battery charger that also acts as a media stand for the phone.
What should our next accessory be. I can't decide on a desktop dock or a car mount.
Give me your thoughts.

From what I've been reading here, you aren't going to get a "real" car mount that utilizes the 3-pin connector for charging, etc. for Verizon anytime soon.
My first purchases were an extended battery, car charger, and case.
Does the desktop dock use the 3 pins to charge the phone?

As far as I am aware, there is not a desktop dock (or any accessory for that matter) that uses the 3 pin connector that is available for our LTE phones.
I'm happy with my extended battery, Otterbox Defender and Skinomi Techskin screen protector. Just purchased the Xtrememac incharge BT for use in the car. It's $80 but found it for $18 from nothingbutsoftware.com, strange I couldn't complete the purchase on my iPad. I'm glad it wouldn't let me cause it was $30 on the iPad but then when I shared the URL to my Nexus the price was $18. I got email confirmation it shipped today.
I havent seen a specific thread on this yet but here it goes, where are people getting pogo pins at? I dont think using guitar strings, screw etc are a good idea for the charging docks people are making. I know the pitch is 3.0mm ( if you go with a pod style, 3 pogos molded together ). But I dont know the depth the pins have to be pushed in at. None the less, where have people been getting their pins at?
wtf are pogo pins?
Want to enlighten me on what they are?
Look on the edge of your phone. You see those gold contacts? That is used for charging and I think also used for audio too. The pogo pins are a spring loaded contact that depresses when the phone is set on the contacts. Google pogo pins, hell look in our accessories section here to see a few examples.

It appears to have been removed but here is a news article on it:
3-Pin Dock (Discontinued??)
I ordered these. It took a month to get here. I just got them yesterday & I haven't had time to rig them up yet - I got an extended battery, so now I have to redo my cradle before I hook up the pins.
