Hey guys, I saw on the Sony website that the Xperia features USB hosting. I have an external HDD that is externally powered and I would like to hook it up to the Xperia with a view to transfer files etc.
Do all I need to get is a USB OTG cable for the Xperia ? Thanks
I only did it on my sony tablet s and only needed otg cable and extra power supply for the hardrive in fat32 format but I believe it is honeycomb feature, not gingerbread or plays. I maybe wrong

It is a feature not in the Xperia Play atm. DoomLord made it work on other 2011 Xperias but the Play was a different story, he has tried to work around it a few times but still a no-go for now.

Sorry about the thread is too long.
Thanks for reading thread by noob
Unfortunately, the Xperia Play doesn't have a micro HDMI slot and so can't be connected to your TV in this way

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
The xperia play development version(that version they showed on shops, magazines)have an HDMI port, but the public release of xperia play don't have this port, maybe it have the software inside, but as far I know no one find such software, maybe possible install them,I think.

Correct the development version of the xperia play had hdmi out. The production models don't. Software wont fix a hardware issue.
sadly only the developer models have an HDMI out :crying:
So there is no way we can connect our xperia play to a tv or monitor?
Find a development model.
Doesn't the play support analog video out via USB??

Like I said,if the software of HDMI is in the phone, you could theorically use a microUSB-to-HDMI cable, check this link: //talk.sonymobile.com/thread/26107
(place http,I dont have 10 posts)they say in service mode shows that xperia have the software.you could use a microUSB-to-HDMI cable to check if work, but at your own risk, since I still don't have one, that's all I can do,

Do you really think no one has tried this?

So that means it does not work??
Hi guys,I have researched and find that microUSB-to-HDMI adapters uses a standard called MHL(mobile high-definition link) to mirror the phone screen on TV,I also find on this thread: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943872
That MHL is software-based,they are even trying to port some of apk from xperia line that support MHL,but they are trying to port to xperia phones that uses NovaThor cpu,at Wikipedia page of MHL: //en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-Definition_Link
shows the phones that have native MHL support.
Resuming all this stuff:
1orting MHL to xperia play is possible since is a software.
2:with the port made will be possible to use microUSB-to-HDMI adapters.
With the help of some devs we could port it to xperia play.

As I wrote in the title, does the Samsung Gamepad work with the Xperia S? Obviously I'm talking about an Xperia S updated with 4.1.2 Sony's firmware. Moreover, does it work with emulators?
Thanks in advance
Hello fellow Xperia users, is it possible to add ps3 controller support to an Xperia phone with cyanogenmod? Or does anyone know what apk in the phone it is? My phone Xperia Z Ultra supports it natively but I wanna use it on cyanogenmod.
Bump
Only way i know of is sixaxis
Hello to all you genius devs out there.
we have the xperia play with an inbuild controller on one side, and we have the android tv with inbuil dsupport for controlers and games build vor exactly that. plus the whole system is designed to use whith the digipad.
Why can't we have android tv on the xperia play? i know that it is possible to run lolipop on the play and as far as i know, android tv is some kind of a modified lolipop version ( ok maybe a bit more than that).
we would have a "portable nexus player" how awesome would that be?
so my question is: is that even possible?
I do not have any knowledge of making android roms ( beside from killing stuff from the system partition i dont need.)
