Hey guys, I saw on the Sony website that the Xperia features USB hosting. I have an external HDD that is externally powered and I would like to hook it up to the Xperia with a view to transfer files etc.
Do all I need to get is a USB OTG cable for the Xperia ? Thanks
I only did it on my sony tablet s and only needed otg cable and extra power supply for the hardrive in fat32 format but I believe it is honeycomb feature, not gingerbread or plays. I maybe wrong

It is a feature not in the Xperia Play atm. DoomLord made it work on other 2011 Xperias but the Play was a different story, he has tried to work around it a few times but still a no-go for now.

Turn your Xperia™ PLAY phone into a PC or games machine. Pop it into LiveDock™, connect a USB keyboard, mouse or gamepad via the USB port, and work – or play away. All day.
To enjoy this feature, you may need to update your phone software.

i hope ics will bring this feature without the need for live dock ...the play is not listed as compatible with the live dock
Hi guys, I just bough my Xperia Play and I want to install CM on it, but I wonder, is the gaming controls fully supported in CM 7?, touchpad?, buttons?
I know it's not in CM9, but I can't find a fully answer about this on CM7.
Thanks.

CM doesn't have most of the xperia play optimized games working. Some games doesn't recognize the gamepad or the xperia play. About touchpads it is really broken on CM.

Yes, what you said has been fully reported on CM9.
Some people using CM7 have this problem, and some people don't, that's why I'm asking.

Unfortunately, the Xperia Play doesn't have a micro HDMI slot and so can't be connected to your TV in this way

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
The xperia play development version(that version they showed on shops, magazines)have an HDMI port, but the public release of xperia play don't have this port, maybe it have the software inside, but as far I know no one find such software, maybe possible install them,I think.

Correct the development version of the xperia play had hdmi out. The production models don't. Software wont fix a hardware issue.
sadly only the developer models have an HDMI out :crying:
So there is no way we can connect our xperia play to a tv or monitor?
Find a development model.
Doesn't the play support analog video out via USB??

Like I said,if the software of HDMI is in the phone, you could theorically use a microUSB-to-HDMI cable, check this link: //talk.sonymobile.com/thread/26107
(place http,I dont have 10 posts)they say in service mode shows that xperia have the software.you could use a microUSB-to-HDMI cable to check if work, but at your own risk, since I still don't have one, that's all I can do,

Do you really think no one has tried this?

So that means it does not work??
Hi guys,I have researched and find that microUSB-to-HDMI adapters uses a standard called MHL(mobile high-definition link) to mirror the phone screen on TV,I also find on this thread: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943872
That MHL is software-based,they are even trying to port some of apk from xperia line that support MHL,but they are trying to port to xperia phones that uses NovaThor cpu,at Wikipedia page of MHL: //en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-Definition_Link
shows the phones that have native MHL support.
Resuming all this stuff:
1orting MHL to xperia play is possible since is a software.
2:with the port made will be possible to use microUSB-to-HDMI adapters.
With the help of some devs we could port it to xperia play.

Hello, I would like to know whether there already exists Xperia S ROM with native support for the PS3 wireless remote controller (Dualshock 3) as announced for Xperia SP?
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/04/0...shock-3-controller-support-for-xperia-phones/
I know there is a special application for DS3 in the play store, but I would rather wait for native Sony support.
Do you think we could get this controller supported later after official JB update for Xperia S, or it could be included into existing ROMs (ICS based)? Thanks
Wait for the system dump, then JB for us, then we will see what will work straight away, and what will need to be ported.
Hello, just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.
I recently got an Xperia Play R800i and have used the PSXperia exploit to load the built in PSX emulator with some ISOs. However, the option on the phone under 'Controller Settings' for 'Analog Mode' is greyed out and I haven't been able to get them to work at all, so games like 'Ape Escape' are unplayable. I've looked on this site and elsewhere but haven't been able to find any way of testing if this is a hardware issue with the touchpad or something with the software. Have tried using another emulator ePSXe with support for the Xperia Play touchpads but nothing either. Phone is running stock SE firmware 2.3.4, build 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated

Well the only PsX emulator I have tried is FPse and I can confirm touchpads work flawlessly. You could try to use an app named “GameKeyboard” to test the touchpads. Also you could install any Xperia Play-optimized game to test touchpads, for example Dead Space.

So I downloaded GameKeyboard to test the touchpads - every other gamepad button works apart from the touchpads so it appears to be a hardware issue for sure

Hi, what options should I be using in this app to activate the touchpads? I'm using the stock SE 2.3.4 ROM so is this needed? Also, can this app potentially damage the phone in any way??

If you are gonna use psxperia when you build the apk you have to enable touchpads by ticking a box. Then you can go into the emulator and select the control scheme that utilizes them

I ticked the box to enable touchpads/analog when I was building the APKs with PSXperia. I've since tried testing the touchpads with another app I found on here + I tried using the touchpad test in the service menu of the phone but not working.
I'm going to try flash the stock ROM to 100% rule out that it is not a software issue - if the touchpads still don't work then I'm going to try replace the gamepad itself which will hopefully fix the issue!
Issue fixed
So I ended up ordering a replacement touchpad and housing as seemed to be a hardware issue - and sure enough when I took the phone apart, the flex connecting the touchpads to the motherboard was broken in half!!! now i have replaced the touchpads and reassembled the phone everything is working perfectly. Thanks everyone for your tips!
